Women should not be an elder, bishop, apostle or deacon.Pastorate is suspect. Women have many roles to play in the church. Some roles are better for men than women. Not that a man is more capable. Women are great nurturers and excel at roles where they can nurture, encourage, love and reach out to others.

I believe a woman can hold any position in the church. If she feels called to be a pastor, elder, deacon, etc, let her follow her calling.

Some mighty women of the Bible: Anna (Luke 2:36-38), Deborah (Judges 4 and 5), Huldah (II Kings 22:8-20), Romans 16:1-15 (many women helpers named), Zipporah (Exodus 4:24-26), Acts 2:17-18 and 21:8-9 (daughters that prophesy). When the going gets tough, the tough get going and most were women.

Women should do what God has called them to do. I don't think one (man or women) should be behind the pulpit preaching if not called by God.

Any women can hold any office in a church, or in a hierarchical structure of a denomination.

Some presenters in this forum need to learn when scripture is specifically address and generally addressed. Likewise, when you quote verses of scripture out of the original context in which it was presented it becomes a pretext for false teaching; this practice is both Blasphemous and Heresy. Do not pervert the word of God, there are exceptionally grave consequences for False Teaching.

Gabriel on 5/7/05-1 Tim 2:11-12,1Ti 3:2 should be taken into context with the whole Bible. There's much else to be taken into the context such as Ga.3:28 in that there's no male nor female,we're one in Christ.Paul told people regarding women as he did because of culture and confusion it would have caused(depending on who he spoke with).Do you really think the apostle Junia never taught men?(Rom 16:7)

1 Tim 2:11 "Let a woman learn in silence with all submission. 12 And I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, but to be in silence."
women are important to the ministry and service of God, no more or less than men. but they are not to be pastors.

1Ti 3:2 A bishop [pastor] then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;
how can a woman be a husband of one wife, unless she is homsexual, which is wrong 9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.

1Ti 3:2 A bishop [pastor] then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, temperate, sober inded, of good behavior, hospitable, able to teach; a woman can't be a husband of one wife, because a woman can't be a husband, unless you count homosexuality, which is wrong: 1Co 6:9, 10 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites... shall inherit the kingdom of God.

Ann ... we cannot complain about that. It is perhaps to be welcomed that NEW people come on here with their oproblems and questions.

They are not to know that the issue has been dealt with before, particularly if they are new to the site and do not know how to find previous discussions. Anyway, being new and keen, they need to ask and contribute.

No, this is one of those topics that come up all the time over & over ad nauseum, and we never agree, and we never will...just one of those things.
---Ann5758 on 4/29/05

I agree women should be pastors ...

But some say that Paul said NO.

I do not think we will ever get agreement here!

You know, I get very passionate about questions of women's roles in the church. Our church ordains women as well as men-totally equal. A married couple who pastors a church each is a minister. We also have 1 international leader, over our membership world-wide. Twice, that leader has been a woman. I thank God for the pioneer women He sent out to start branches of our church where there were none, and to pastor those churches. God can use anyone for any task.

Hello!
Giving God all the Glory, for He alone is worthy.First witness of Christ Resurrection was a women. Matt 28:1-8 Joel 2:28- " Sons and your DAUGHTERS shall prophesy." Gal. 3:28. Read the bible.

those laws were back in the OT. God said he isn't respect of persons, so whatever he called a man to do, he can call a women to do. Somebody has to preach God's word. There are alot of Men preachers I know and they are good preachers but some aren't so good and their ways don't line up with God. I would rather hear a women preacher filled with the HOly Ghost then to hear a man preach who don't walk the walk with God.
---Rebecca_D on 4/24/05

On the cross the handwriting of OT ordinances ,which was against humankind were nailed to the cross with Christ. Abolished. Does it make any sense He would turn right around and give more to be followed in the New Testament?I think not.Besides, God always used women as Prophets and Deborah was a Judge, those positions were ones which required a woman to minister to men and women alike.God also gives the New Testament verbal Gifts, prophecy, etc.,in 1Corinthians12:7-10 to women and they are Church/Body Ministries. Why would he do that if they weren't suspose to teach or preach to everyone?

Shira you say "God has never called a woman to preach the Gospel and certainly not to pastor a church"
---Alan_of_U.K. on 4/23/05

Gal 3:27-28 there is neither male nor female; for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. God does not see us as a man or a woman it does not matter who preaches, teaches, pastors, in the House of God, as long as God has equiped the individual to do the task at hand. Women do not not use authority over men, rather they are empowered to do the work of the ministry, to be a servant of the church. Ephesians 4:11-17. Focusing on vs 11-12 Jesus gave some apostles, prophets, etc. no where do we read He gave male apostles, male prophets. Because we are all one in Christ Jesus, there is no distinction.

The women can teach in bible classess or teach their children at home being raised in Christ. However i stand with the bible stating women should not be in the preachers chair. If for what ever reason she does represent in the place of a pastor & there are noother men to give the teaching she should respectfully acknowledge the man. but again yes they can teach in class, but not in service.
---CANDICE on 4/22/05

The role of women in church is to be what God has called you to be. God has never called a woman to preach the Gospel and certainly not to pastor a church. Women are not to be authority over a man. That is God's divine order. Women can teach, sing, witness, visit the sick, teach younger women and so it goes on and on.
