Are you asking if it's bad to beleive in God but not go to a church? I consider myself a CHristian, but I dont go to church. My church is my own house, or when my family is in nature. Or anytime, anywhere. I beleive in God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit, so I call myself a Christian.

Something to think about--- The name of "Christian" was coined by the outside world, not the believers themselves, the early church never refereed to themselves as Christians. It was usually used in contempt. I wonder why we have adopted this name judging on how it was first used? Thru out history Christianity has described western culture as much as it has a belief system. Is this what the question is about?

I believe in God & in his son Jesus, but what I don't believe in is the worldly churches that act like sheep in wolves clothing. I put faith in God & read my bible.I attend church ,but listen to see what the Pastor teaches if it lines up with the bible- if not then the pastor is misleading the flock, but Christianity the name dirived from Christ- the first "christians"were made from the disciples.

The ONLY WAY to God is through Jesus Christ. You can only get to God by accepting Jesus Christ as Lord & Savior - this is Christianity (being a Christ-like follower of God).
---Leslie on 12/31/06

This isn't about believing there is a God. This is about believing that God raised Jesus from the dead and made Him Lord of all. You can mark true Christianity from all other religions when you start talking about Jesus. Most people don't mind talking about God, but when a body is put on Him and Jesus the Man is mentioned, you lose some.
---Linda6563 on 11/13/06

You can say you believe in "God" all you want, but you will never know God until you came to a saving knowledge of His Son Jesus Christ. It is only when born-again in Christ that one's eyes are spiritually opened and one then knows God. You cannot know God any other way than through Jesus Christ and His finished work on the Cross for sin.
---Helen_5378 on 11/13/06

it depends. if you believe in God as in Father, son and holy spirit then you can believe in God and not christianity. the church has done alot of stupid stuff over the years and even I can see how it can turn many people away. but we can only belive in God as he is reveled to us. and that revelation is through Jesus Christ. No one has seen God but the Son and who the son reveles him too.
---Jared on 11/12/06

Go ahead and believe in G-d, but not religion. There is no "one true religion"...but Faith in G-d is common to many religions.

Satan believes in GOD. Believing in God won't get you to heaven. True Christianity is a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ having repented of sin and accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior.

Bethany asks: "Are you Catholic?"

In what sense?
---Tina5349 on 7/29/05

That's right, Rick. I agree. They are not saved because they do not know Jesus, the Christ, as Savior and trust in His perfect righteousness credited to their account. But they can "live right" meaning they can live according to this world's laws. That's my point. Jesus is our Savior, not merely our example for holy living. Christianity is not merely a "way of life."
---Tina5349 on 7/29/05

Works count for nothing as far as salvation is concerned. Jesus said "many will come to me in that day saying Lord, Lord, we did many wonderful works in your name." He calls them workers of iniquity for offering their works instead of the blood. One thing that many Christians don't know, over 1 billion Muslims believe in Jesus as a prophet, but not Messiah. Hindus and Bhuddists also believe He was a holy man, yet they are all unsaved.
---Rick on 7/29/05

Tina, I am an Evangelist!

Thankyou for the lunchtime sermon,

I am different to you, wonderfully and marvellously created by God, get it?

Are you Catholic?

Bethany,
Also remember that Jesus Christ, God's only Son suffered, was crucified, dead, and buried, He decended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father almighty, and He will come again to judge both the living and the dead.

Bethany,
Just remember. "Our righteousness before God is this, that God forgives us our sins by sheer grace, without any works, merit , or worthiness of our own, in the past, at present or in the future, that he gives us and reckons to us the righteousness of Christs obedience and that, because of this righteousness of Christs we are accepted by God into grace and regarded as righteous." Ep.III, 4 BoC

Tina, I wondered - have you ever read Galatians 5:,22,23??? Romans 5:5??

Im so glad the Lord took the guy beside him on the cross who believed in Him, so glad He afforded His amazing grace, so glad He didnt require that theif (or whatever his crime was)to get of the cross, have a bath, get dressed in fresh clothes, become a bible scholar, require him to have signs and wonders following him...

Lighten up, legalism does'nt suit anyone!

Grace, grace and more grace!
---bethany on 7/28/05

Tina, it seems we serve the same God, so will you feel better if I walk and talk like you?

Do you remember the milk you drank as a baby christian?

Lets remember to love one another unconditionally as Christ does us - we are made perfect in His image, not each other's.
---bethany on 7/28/05

Your "version" of Christianity doesn't need a savior. Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims, and atheists can all "live right" as well as any Christian.

An 'intelligent' person can sometimes be a dummy hiding behind academic education.

My Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ, created me, and welcomes my child like palatable version to those who need encouragement.

Christianity is simple, its one who walks with their hand firmly holding on to Christ's.

Howzat for ya!
---bethany on 7/28/05

"Christianity is this simple - its a way of life."

What?! Am I hearing you say that if we just "live right" that's all there is to Christianity?

Jesus Christ didn't come to be an example for holy living, he came to be our savior!. If He came merely to be an example, there would have been no need for the cross. Please don't dumb down Christianity, or try to somehow make it more palatable. That doesnt work for intelligent people.
---Tina5349 on 7/28/05

Hi Dennis,

If you believe in God, thats fantablytastic.

Christianity is this simple - its a way of life.

Jesus, the Son of God, who is God - wonderfully gives us a clear picture of His character in the NT - the parables are wonderful to be guided by in worldly living.

Keep surfing with God, He will help you ride the right way in all the waves that come to knock you over.!

3) The judge would say that it's good that you did all those good things, but you're still a car thief, guilty!
But if the judge decided to pay the penalty himself, and give you a full pardon, then you walk away free and the penalty has been "PAID IN FULL." This is what Jesus did for us on the cross when he said it is finished or "PAID IN FULL." None of us can plead not guilty. But we can PLEAD THE BLOOD.

2) When Jesus was in the garden before the crucifixcion, He asked the Father three times to find another way if it were possible. So if there were some other way then Jesus' prayer was not answered. All of us has sinned (broke God's law). Even in an American courtroom it works this way. If you stole a car and went before the judge you could try telling him all the good things you do for society, and that you only stole one car.
---Rick on 7/28/05

1)Dennis, it doesn't make you a bad person any more than the rest of us. But you need to receive a pardon for your sins found only in Christ. When we face God's judgment we have nothing to offer. Notice that Jesus said, "many will come to me in that day and say Lord we have done many wonderful works in your name." These are people who did good things, but offered these "works" as there means of salvation. This is an insult to God.
---Rick on 7/28/05

Dennis-No it doesn't make a person bad to believe in God,but not Christianity. You do well to believe in one God (Jms 2:19).But you will be known by your fruit, for faith without good works is dead (Jms.2:20)-like the faith of demons who also believe in one God.Do you know and love Jesus?I hope you do,even if you don't realize it.Jesus is the ONLY way to God(Jn.14:6),but there's many ways to Jesus. If you're seeking to get closer to God,He gets closer to you(Jms.4:8)&that's only done through Jesus whether a person realizes that's what's happening or not.
---Sheila on 5/8/05

Dennis, There is no God without CHRISTianity!
There is only one way under Heaven in which we can be saved, and that is through the door, and that door is JESUS, the CHRIST. Believe me if I know anything at all in my life it's this.

You are not "bad" just misinformed. You should believe in God but read your Bible....it points to Christ throughout the Old and New Testament. Christianity was the name given to the followers of Christ....to be a follower of Christ is the most important thing to understand in salvation. I pray that God will show you Christ in his Holy Word. Again, your are not bad..I pray that God will show you His light.
---Karen on 5/7/05

Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. James 2:19
To be a Christian, mean a believer/follower of Christ. Guess it means what you mean by "a bad person", by whose standard? It means you are LOST and headed for an eternity in Hell unless you repent and trust that Christ took your sin debt in full. YOu may be good by the worlds standards....but good and lost! The devil KNOWS God is real. You eternal life is hanging on you being good enough? How good is good enough?

gregg, Jesus' name IS Jesus, Immanuel is a title of Jesus meaning "God with us" His given name is Jesus Mt 1:21, Mt 1:25, Lu 1:31. and Phillip. 2:10 says "at the name of Jesus" not Immanuel. get your facts right
---gabriel on 4/29/05

candice. . . 'Where two or more are gathered in my name, there am I in the midst.' The name, the name, pay attention to the name; Jesus, Immanuel, Yahweh, Jehovah, I AM, are they the same?

count... HOWEVER I do go to a church, a mennonite church, but I am not a "member", but yes you need Christianity, following Christ to believe in God fully, not unless oyu want ot be like satan & believe in him& not recieve everlasting life with God. For jesus stated that he is the way, truth& life ,& only through him we can enter into heaven.
---Candice on 4/27/05

I believe in following Christ is part of believing in God because he sent his only son to us. , but I donot beleive we have to attend different denominations& believe their man made doctrines because God said to follow him,& not man, but then how do we get our fellowship if not a member of a church? Simple. It says in the bible "where 2 or more are gathered in my name I will dwell" so you don't need to "leave your house" in a since to be a christian, count.

Acts 11:26 '. . . So for a whole year Barnabbas and Saul met with the church and taught great numbers of people. The disciples were called Christians first at Antioch.' It does take a stretch of the imaginaton to separate the belief in the teachings of God from the label Christian, but Christianity is a description just as Buddhism or Islam. The name of Jesus is Immanuel if you want to get technical.(Isa8:8,10. Mat.2:20-25)

Yes, devils also believe in God.
---Eloy on 4/26/05

Which "god"? Without Old Testament knowledge it is hard to know God. Without the New Testament Christ, there is yet to be a fulfillment of sacrifice for our sins. There must be sin offerings to JHWH and payments made often. Jesus was born, lived, and allowed Himself to be killed as the God/man sacrifice for us all. His ressurection proves eternal life awaits us. Without Him, there is no full pardon. The Jews still wait for Christ to come, as do many others. Try the Bible. Your answers are there.

Dennis, As a believer in the only true God, I have to tell you that without Christianity you have nothing. There is only one way under heaven in which we can be saved, and that is through Jesus Christ, God's son. He loves you and he wants you to come through the Door of Jesus. You can do it right now, by confessing to Him that you are a sinner, that you repent and that you accept Him as your only savior. He can do more to enrich your life than you can ever imagine! God bless you.

It doesn't make anyone bad for not believing in Christianity, but it leaves a person lacking what they must have for salvation. You must believe in Christ,His crucification, death, burial, resurrection, and that He now lives. You also must repent of sins and accept Jesus as your Savior. He is the only intercessor between man and God.Sorry ,but just believing in God won't save you,Satan believes in God and he isn't saved, but forever lost.Christ became the sacrificial lamb of God who was slain for our sins, only through Him is salvation to be found.
