Anyone who is truly saved, won't be afraid to go and meet Jesus face-to-face. I don't know why anyone would want to live here for long, anyways. It is getting to be a real mad-house down here more and more everyday.
---pat on 1/15/13

Absolutely, there is fear in death, but death is only a doorway that allows us as Christians to strip this earthly body and take on an immortal one. We can't have this body in glory, it's a body of sin, created to die after so many years. Even Jesus himself feared the pain of death so badly that he cried great drops of blood and asked, "Father, if thou wilt, let this cup of sorrow pass from me." I believe most fear the unknown as it is an eternal journey and you won't be coming back. Also, if there is any pain involved, most would rather avoid it, although every person will meet the grave unless the rapture takes place

frances, you answered your own question. we are not under the law or at least I'm not. we are under grace.
---shira4368 on 1/13/13

O.K. so now can you answer my question.

what point of view is it that I have that you are not interested in?

1: That are saved by grace
2: That we are empowered by Jesus to keep all his laws
3: That at the moment we believe God declares us just, and that God imputes us with His righteousness

Romans 6:1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?

Romans 6:15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid

Can you tell me what exactly it is that I am saying that you are not intered in?
---francis on 1/13/13

Follower, you are promoting works for salvation, you say:

"Converted minds believe we can do all things through Christ including keeping Gods holy just 10 laws by the power of the holy spirit."

That's not what the passages say. You add to Scripture which is sin. The passage in (Phil. 4:13) "I can do all things" Paul uses a Greek word that means "to be strong" or "to have strength." (v.11,12) Jesus infuses us with His strength to sustain us unit we receive some provision.
Paul is not saying that through Him we can do all things, if that was the case we could fly if we wanted, or change the hearts of others who are lost. Has nothing to do with Laws or the Sabbath either.
---Mark_V. on 1/13/13

I realize that this is an old thread--almost 8 years old--but Jesus Himself wasn't fond of the idea of undergoing death.

Self-preservation is a natural instinct God put into us.

Remember Papa ten Boom's train ticket? I believe that when the time truly comes for us to die, God will put the strength into our hearts to undergo it. I've seen it happen.

Christ is baptized! In the Jordan!

Francis said: "God sent his son, so that we in our human bodies would be able to keep the law"

Francis, then why do you consistently FAIL to obey?

You quote Rom 8:13 "if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body"

Yet you DON'T mortify the deeds of the body (judging by works of the law).

John 8:44 Jesus said "You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do"
What are the desires of the devil (the accuser)?
Example: John 8:3-5 "they said to Him, "Teacher, this woman was caught in adultery, in the very act. Now Moses, in the law, commanded us that such should be stoned".

It's SDA leaven/doctrine. Works of the law.

Hello, everyone, as a young woman, afraid of even the thought! realistic getting older & just health, stress, basic things, probably not trill reality of pain.Since have b.cancer..
Death does not give me fear, would pray God permit me to see my daughter if that be possible. God knows how much I have missed her, many questions on my mind. I probably be too afraid to find. Out. All the time I pray God give me strength. I do not have doubt about my salvation. My trust is in God by faith living for the master and loving it! Jesus my closest friend! I wanted Jesus Christ.love of Jesus! Rom8:1,Rom.8:18 I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that shall be revealed in us.

Through the years I've heard Christians question their salvaiton. They often wonder if they are a child of God because of the guilt they feel from the sins they commit on a daily basis. I believe this is the very subject that the Apostle John is addressing in 1st John:

1 Jonh3:20 For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.

He gives us assurance:
1 John3:14 We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.

Actually our conviction of sin is an evidence that we've been born again, the cold and stony heart has been removed and a fleshy heart has been given to us. - Eze 11:19

Children of God follow Lord Jesus Christ. Converted minds believe we can do all things through Christ including keeping Gods holy just 10 laws by the power of the holy spirit. Grace is upon a converted mind seeking strength of Lord Jesus to obey in all things because without the Lord it is impossible to obey.

An unconverted mind is child of disobedience following god of this world Satan, and are led to lasciviousness (law breaking).

It is appointed once for all men to die, then the resurrection. The Lord of Gods holy 7th Sabbath Day, Christ Jesus, will return to earth to destroy all enemies and the last enemy to be destroyed is death. 1Corin 15:25,26

I have never said and no one has ever said that they are trying to enter heaven by keeping the commandments

Romans 8:7 Because the carnal mind [is] enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.

the carnal mind in enmity against God because the carnal mind does not keep the law of God

You in your carnal mind is trying to say that the carnal mind is enmity against God BECAUSE it keeps the law of God
---francis on 1/12/13

francis, the carnal mind is enmity against God, He believes that keeping the commandments will allow him to enter heaven. So he works to try to reach that goal. But he keeps failing over and over. In reality he has no hope.
What he needs is for God to reach out and save him, by bringing him to spiritual life, so that he can see and hear the Lord for the first time. And realizes his works can never save him. He doesn't realize this until he is born of the Spirit.
---Mark_V. on 1/12/13

you will never change my mind
---shira4368 on 1/11/13

---francis on 1/12/13

You can have grace and more grace don't mean you can go out and kill somebody or rob them blind, and then, think I have grace--- Oh well. Grace never gives you an excuse to break God's laws. It is the grace of God which helps us to not break His laws, they are written across the true believers' heart. We want to do good not to please ourselves or others, but because we love God. We have a strong desire to please our Saviour, our God....This desire comes from the living God.

Romans 8:7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.

It is only those who are carnal minded who are at odds with keeping the law of God.

Those who are carnal mined are not subject, they do not find themselves wanting to, or desiring to keep the law of God. They fuss about keeping the law

Romans 8:13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

I love this text. It tell us that we who have the spirit, are able to put away sin in our MORTAL bodies, through the power of the spirit ( SANCTIFICATION)
---francis on 1/12/13

francis, you are so stuck in the Old Testament you do not know why Jesus Christ came. You say,

"In Modern English. God sent his son, so that we in our human bodies would be able to keep the law,"

Jesus never said He came for that reason. "He came because we could not keep the law ourselves perfect."
Fail in one, you fail them all. That is why every descendant of Adam is condemned already. Only those who receive faith from God will be saved. The Holy Spirit was to come and did come to guide us unto all Truth, by first bringing us to spiritual life, baptizing us unto One body in Christ, endwelling us, and sealing us. He didn't come to make our flesh perfect. The flesh will die because of sin.
---Mark_V. on 1/12/13

1 Cor 7:19 Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing, but (what is important is) the keeping of the commandments of God.

Romans 8:3 what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:
That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

In Modern English. God sent his son, so that we in our human bodies would be able to keep the law, if we follow the guiding of the spirit of God which is in us

"KEEP OR NOT KEEP THESE if you are SAVED BY GRACE"---francis on 1/11/13

You've said "No, No, No" to salvation of any who don't keep the law.
This shows you judge righteousness/salvation by works of law, hence you're NOT saved by grace. Your works doctrine is only relevant to those, like yourself, under the law.

Instead, Christians keep his commandments. 1John 3:23, BELIEVE in Jesus and LOVE one another. And should we do wrong God disciplines us.

BUT, your false gospel results in damnation for disobedience. Considering your own disobedience of law, you're a lost sinner (Gal 2:18). You profess to know Christ but by your works of law you deny him (Tit 1:16).
Repent and BELIEVE in JESUS.

A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasures of his heart brings forth evil things"...."For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned" (Matt. 12:37).

KEEP OR NOT KEEP THESE if you are SAVED BY GRACE

Exodus 20:3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
Exodus 20:4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image,..

Exodus 20:17 Thou shalt not covet
---francis on 1/11/13

Francis. Mark V makes a good point.

Interesting too that you avoid discussing your own failure to PERFECTLY obey the law.

Rom 11:6 says it's EITHER grace OR works of the law. You CAN'T mix them both together like the SDA doctrine does. That is being lukewarm which results in God saying He will spew you out of His mouth, Rev 3:15,16.

The thief on the cross who called Jesus "Lord" is God's example to us to show how we're saved by grace, WITHOUT deeds of the law.

That thief was cleansed of his sin and saved, just like any who believe in Jesus.
But SDA doctrine calls unclean what God has cleansed. It overlooks the cross and judges righteousness by works of the law.

All those who preach works for salvation should be scared to death. They will be awake day and night hoping they have done enough works of the law to be allowed in. And how much is enough? Maybe they forgot to help those in need of food or clothes or forgot to help the Orphas and widows as Jesus commanded. Maybe they lied by giving the wrong interpretation of God's Word. Or Maybe they walked where they shouldn't have walked, or maybe some sin come into their minds and they cannot stop them from coming, or maybe they forgot all the other Sabbaths they should have kept. Too many maybe's for that salvation.

Death scares me so am I a Christian?
---PATTY on 5/3/05
Now to the scared of death part:
Ecclesiastes 9:5 For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward, for the memory of them is forgotten.

Ecclesiastes 9:6 Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished, neither have they any more a portion for ever in any [thing] that is done under the sun.

Psalms 146:4 His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth, in that very day his thoughts perish

When you die, you will have no thoghts at all, feel nothing at all, know nothing at all.

This is nothing to be afraid of.

1 John 2:3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
1 John 2:4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him

This is strait from the word of God that we all on CN claim to go by. So why do so many fight against it.

BECAUSE THEY DO NOT KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS meaning: THEY DO NOT KNOW GOD

According to the bible: THEY ARE LIARS and there is no truth in them.

The question is how do we know...the bible says we know if we keep his commandments

1 John 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous
---francis on 1/7/13

How does one know they are a child of God?
Biblical Answer:
Joh5:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation, but is passed from death unto life.
Joh6:47 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.

Eternal salvation is by the grace of God. It is not something we can obtain through following the law. It is purly by grace!
Eph2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith, and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Eph2:9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

francis, just because you know Him and try to keep His commandments does not mean you are saved. First, no one can keep all of His commandments, second, even the devil believes, but that does not mean he has faith and trust in Him. You have to believe in Him by faith. Here, let me help you. Only those born of God receive Him and have the right to become children of God.

"But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God" now who are these people? "to those who believe in His name: who are born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, (not your works of righteousness) but of God." (John 1:12,13).

"Do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell". Matt 10:28

How does one know that they are a child of God?

1 John 2:3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.

1 John 2:4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

1 John 2:5

There are ten commandments:
1 You shall have no other gods before Me.
2 You shall not make for yourself a carved image,
3 You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain,
4 Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
5 Honor your father and your mother
6 You shall not murder.
7 You shall not commit adultery.
8 You shall not steal.
9 You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
10 You shall not covet

Death scares me so am I a Christian?

When we truely understand the nature of death ( death is a sleep) then we are not afraid of death.

What we are afraid of and rightfully so, are the possible events that may lead up to death.

We are afraid of the posibility of pain and suffering before death. Especially if the suffereing is for a long time.

A slow drawn out process uis what scares us

That is what is scarey

I have been told many times by many Christians that they are absolutely sure God exists and they will be with him in eternal bliss. (Including my Sister) Yet when they are diagnosed with terminal illness they go through the same stages of denial, anger, depression that a non-believer does. That should be the best news they ever received. It's not the impending pain that causes these stages, but the realization of your mortality. And if they lose a loved one who was a good Christian they should not be sad in the least, but thrilled for them and a little jealous. They should go to casket and say, "boy they are lucky, I wish that was me". But they aren't. I think that down deep they are as unsure what awaits them as everyone else.

Hi everyone :) Don't remember exactly where I read this but I read somewhere that a woman asked a famous minister in his day if he was scared to die. He said yes, which of course surprised her. But he went on to say that God had given him grace to live and when it was time to die, God would give him grace to die. I LOVE that! Wish I could remember who it was. God bless.

we live to serve God if we pass on we see God we do not really die just go from one life to another. How can there be fear if we know we will see our Christ face to face that is the greatest joy. For God has not given us a spirit of fear but of love and power and a sound mind. I rejoyce in knowing that one day I will see my God face to face there can be no fear found in such great joy

Romans 8:16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:You should have the peace of God in you and be comforted even in trials, In sorrow you should be comforted and feel the Joy of the Lord God has not given the spirit of fear to you but the Holy Spirit jesus says peace I give unto you and life eternal exzucuh

why fear death, unless of course deep down inside you realize christianity is a man made LIE and realize you are about to GO TO HELL instead of heaven.
---briannathearchangel on 3/31/06

Death should be the ultimate goal of all professed Christians, is this not true? For with death comes a life in heaven with the Lord and isn't that what every Christian wants? So why fear death, unless of course deep down inside you really don't believe in a heaven or the Lord, and just speak the words "I Believe" because you fear peer pressure from society and family and friends.

Hebrews 13:5 NIV "Never will I leave you; Never will I forsake you."
I claim that promise all the time. I think I will claim that for the time of death also.
God bless you

There is a definite progression from one body to the next. The responses by Eloia8896 & 4437 seems to show that you definitely have two.

Seems there are Two of us Eloia. As I was reading through this message, I thought...I don't remember writing this one. It's by another eloia!! Let me hear from you Eloia8896. I'm eloia4437 I really believe for the Christian, dying will be like going to sleep. God gives us practice every night and there's no fear. Those who belong to The Father won't have to cross Jordan alone. I think it will be a sweet release into our Fathers arms.
---Eloia4437 on 5/4/05

Dear Patty: It is natural to fear the process of dying because we don't know how that will be. But this I know for sure, you have nothing to fear if you know Jesus as Lord and Savior, if you stay confessed up, prayed up, daily reading the Word, thanking and praising our Lord and concentrating on Him and His guidance. Also be sure you are serving and focusing on others. That is joy for sure! Just remember all of us are only one step between here and eternity. God gives us grace when it is our time to go to heaven. Trust Him; He never lets us down!

I believe that if you a true child of God, then God will take the sting out of death. "O, death where is thy sting".

I think of death as a new door to go through to an unknown... We don't know for sure what it is going to feel like or really be like when we get there. Paul says we see through a glass darkly. I have watched a very godly woman die and still we had to coax her to take Jesus' hand to go. I don't think it is wrong to be afraid. New things always thrill us.
---Julie on 5/3/05

Like another reply you have gotten, I am not afraid to die, I am afraid of 'how' I will die. I know I should not fear death, but I think it is human to have some fear of how we will cross over. Pray for the Holy Spirit to comfort you and He will. He will give you wisdom in this matter. God Bless You!

Psalm 23 - the whole Psalm is great for comfort and dying -
verse 4 -
"yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death and I will fear no evil for thou art with me, thy rod and thy staff shall comfort me,

Romans 6:8 and 9 - dead to sin and alive to God the whole chapter

There are about 20 verses on death. A concordance can help you with your study on death and dying. Fear of death is normal. But victory over the fear is God given.
---Barbara on 5/3/05

You've gotten some good responses. I might add that as a nurse, I've seen many go through the dying process. Most die peacefully. Other's are scared and even terrified. It's my opinion that these people don't have a relationship with God. But being afraid of what comes after death is not a good reason to be a Christian! Still, it's motivation to get to know Christ so it is not bad. Read about God's character as you study your Bible. Read about what He says about death. I think you will find that it will bring you peace not fear.

Patty:
May I suggest that you can tell that you are a child of God if you do everything in life to please Him and to express to Him your gratitude for having saved you by shedding His precious blood. This will include honoring Him by obeying ALL His commandments.
---Pierr7958 on 5/3/05

The Bible doesn't say if you don't fear death you are a Christian.

The Bible does say that perfect love cast out fear.

The reason you fear death so much is two fold;
1. Satan wants to torment you.
2. You aren't dying yet. If the Lord was calling you home He would give you dying Grace.

This is God's battle give it to Him.
---Elder on 5/3/05

I have always said I am not scared to die, but maybe I would be when it comes my time. I know without a doubt I will be with Jesus when I die, but I will still miss my family.
---shira_5965 on 5/3/05

What part of death sacares you? The pain you might feel while dying , leaving dependants behind? These things are normal , even if you're soundly saved. However if you have fear of where you are going then know this - if you have repented from your sins ( which means to turn away from) and accepted that Jesus is the only one who can help you then you can be sure where you are going will be pleasant.

After accepting Jesus, believe the Word, and obey it. Pray and tell God of your fear and ask His help. You'll see how help will come from different sources and internal strength. : )

If you have asked Christ into your heart to forgive you of your sins, you can be assured you are a Christian, and there is a place in Heaven for you. The method of death is what scares me. I want to go quietly, with no pain...the idea of having a heart attack scares me to death...but I know when I die, I'll be in the presence of God and His Christ, so no worries there. Be blessed.
