Jack, I like your answer!
Mt 5:29 And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.
Avoid what is tempting.
A friend of mine bought his dream house. He moved his family in only to find his next door neighbor was a seductress. Being quite tempted, he quickly sold the house and moved to another neighborhood.

I deal with temptation by keeping my eyes focused on our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I fail at times, but I know that we have a forgiving God. When I am weak, He is strong. His strength, not mine. Glory to God..God Bless!

I try to 'think it through'. I think of how I will feel, what will happen etc. if I submit to the temptation. Play the tape through to the end and understand that it will not last forever.
Eloy, I will try what you suggested next time I am hit with a temptation. You say if I do, that the temptation MUST obey me? That would be awesome.

I once heard of a man that quit smoking. A friend came to visit and spied a package of cigarettes lying on his coffee table.
"Oh, that's just to remind the devil that I can resist any temptation," the man said.

Not always easy. I am finding out that if I keep my eyes on Jesus, that helps alot. And that requires tremendous self-discipline which we all need to come up higher in. You have to constantly remind yourself. Ofcourse, if you get and stay close to God He will not give up on you. This thing on temptation and dealing with it, requires self- discipline. A whole lot of it.

It was hard when I quit smoking. I just didn't go around someone who did it. If I happened to get "stuck" around them, I was miserable and sometimes I gave in, but that was long ago and I try not to put myself in a situation that makes me feel vunerable.

Albert, It will take more than "human will power", it will take "the power of the Holy Ghost", power from the Divine Blood of Jesus, power from on High! One must humble them self daily to God, Yielding them self to Him.

First, a person has to realize that a temptation is NOT a sin. (Yeilding to temtation is a sin.) Second, you are not going to be put into a tempation, that God isn't going to provide a means of escape. (1 Corinthians 10:13) From a practical view, isolate the area of temptation, and avoid conditions that tempt you, if you can.
Like those who are envolved in AA, find a support group, or an individual who you can contact when tempted.

One practical way is to avoid what moral theologians call occassions of sin: places, persons, things, and such that you know from your experience WILL bring serious temptations with them.
Examples: If you are an alcoholic, stay away from bars! If a TV show usually upsets or depresses you, don't watch it!
We don't get to choose our temptations, nor can we get rid of all of them, but I think we can do things to reduce their number.

submit to God, resist the devil, and he will flee. same with temptation. taking into captivity every thought that is contrary to Christ. Renewing our minds by the washing of the word.

I pray and ask God to help me to resist temptation.

Careful what you see, hear, and where you go.
Romans 3:22-24 First you must receive Jesus as your saviour.
Mt 22:40 Said to love God and neighbors
1Jn 1:5-10 3:11 We all sin.
Eph 1:13 Once you are saved you can not lose your salvation

Jesus said to flee temptation. Isaiah said no temptation has taken you but such as is common to man, but God is faithful and will with the temptation also make a way of escape that you may be able to bear it. Look for the escape hatch.

Cast down thoughts! Avoid it, Pray and get your focus back on who you are in Christ. Resist the devil -speak God's Word....go the other way. Know that you are a child of God. He has given you power and His word. Don't give in, take a stand. You'll be glad you did!

Antidote to temptation? Ask God to help us do that which is pleasing in His sight. It may take a while, but it is worth the effort with prayer....much prayer. Stay in the Word, it will clarify the sin and bring encouragement. Have a Christian accountability partner and mentor. We can't do it alone. In Christ Jesus we have the victory! Press on in faith!

You need the Holy Spirit which comes through prayer, and the Word of God. "All" power in heaven and earth is given to us through Jesus Christ, and we are more then conquerors through him that loves us. So you take the authority invested in you, and you command the Temptor and the temptation to: "Get you behind me Satan!" "I have complete power over you through Jesus Christ, so I command you in the Name of Jesus Christ to go!" And the temptation must obey, and it will leave.

The best and hardest way is to stop and pray to God as the temptations lures us. Instantly ask the Lord to empower you TO CHOSE not to do what the devil wants you to do, recognizing that without His help you will mess up again.
On the practical side, don't keep/hang around stuff/people who tempt you!

1. Pray that u don't get into temptation (Matthew 6;13,Luke 22;40&46)
2.Flee as soon as u recognise the temptation-don't debate the issue(2Timothy2;22)
3.Resist through Jesus knowing that he overcame temptation himself(Hebrews 4;14-16)
4.Give thanks to the Lord in the midist of the struggle. Thank him for providing a way of escape( Romans 5;3-5)

Temptation is all around us in kin, friends, workplace, organizations and even in our church family.
Best is to avoid temptation.
When tempted, be prepared by previous prayer that God will help you say, think and do the right thing. Temptation comes in many many forms and it will come.

Consider this: if you are buying a house, you know if you make the payments timely and in the right amount, you will own the house someday. If you miss payments or don't make payments in full, what is going to eventually happen? You don't just believe that the house will be yours upon paying the money, you know this. We must make the house payment to get to heaven, and we must believe that this is true. We must therefore follow the teachings of Christ, fully.

I think sometimes we feel that if we are plagued by thoughts of doing bad things that this is unholy and so we do those things because we feel that if we think them, we might as well do them. It is not easy being good, it is quite hard to live in this world with integrity and true respect for gender and class. Why must we believe in Jesus in order to inherit the kingdom of Heaven?

When I realize I am tempted I can tell myself a sharp "NO" and that takes away the temptation. Pray and give that temptation to God and ask for the temptation to be taken from you. Stay close to God.

Dear Barbara,we have to remember where temptation comes from and why it happens. We have all failed at some point in dealing with it,the way I find that works best for me is I ask myself if Jesus were standing here beside me, would I say that?,do that,?look at that,?buy that?what would God say if he found out? and then realize he is with me and he does know, now what's my choice going to be?obedience/peace?,failure/guilt?.
