It's really about not only being a Hearer of the Word, but a Doer of the Word. Abiding and Continuing in God's Truth, requires us to yield to deny ourselves, take up our cross like Jesus said. Some don't want to take up their cross, for whatever reason. Throughout my Christian walk I really discovered that being a "Doer" and not just a "Hearer" along with Yielding to God, is the Key, it is basically being Obedient to God. --Mrs. Morgan

Lupe2618 , you are right(you are obviously a very intelligent person) but some refuse to let Christ live through them, because they don't yield to His Truth, and Abide in His Truth. We must Abide, and Continue in God's Truth, in order for Christ to live through us. One of the biggest problems in the Christian World today is people not Abiding & Continuing in God's Truth(John 17:17)(John 8:31). God Bless. --Mrs.Morgan.

You don't need to stop sinning, you need Christ in order for Him to help you stop sinning. The spirit will teach you and guide you if the Spirit is in you. If not you will go right to hell with all the one's that think they can save themselves by their merits. They need Christ in their lives.
---Lupe2618 on 8/12/06

A wrong concept of what it is to be saved. A constorted view of God, and a believe that you can save yourself. That will take you right to hell. You need Christ, period.

Sinning. --Mrs. Morgan

Rebecca: Scriptures are clear on what a believer is to do if another believer is in sin. The person concerned should lovingly confront the person who is in sin. Not talk about it. James 5: "19My brothers, if one of you should wander from the truth and someone should bring him back, 20remember this: Whoever turns a sinner from the error of his way will save him from death and cover over a multitude of sins."

It doesn't matter if she was asking for herself or not. It should be our business. That is what is wrong with too many people they don't want to get involved in someone's life. If they're dying and going to hell, we should make it our business. If we see someone starting to backslide, we need to pray for them, seek God. Hell isn't getting any smaller just bigger. And too many people are going to hell because they won't make it their business.

Backslidden? ????????? Don't believe in it. I'd think one way was how much are they judging others and focussing on outward signs as a measure of relationship between someone else and God????????????????????
---rachel on 6/4/05

Julie: Are you asking for yourself or for someone else? If it is for yourself, then the suggestions given are great. If it is for someone else, why is it any of your business?
---Madison on 5/31/05

Dear Julie, You will know they are backslidden if their behavior is not in line with Scripture. That's one reason it is so important to know God's principles. Words mean nothing if they do not walk the talk. Pray and stay in the Word. Blessings!

Worst sign of being backslidden: the secure feeling that you and God are doing pretty well, and you don't have anything specific to improve upon in your own life.

In other words, pride, the root of all sins.
---Jack on 5/30/05

"The backslidder in heart will be filled with his own ways"...Usually one is backslidden long before the outward signs show..The heart toward the things of God grow cold.. Some of the old ways will start showing up..Works of the flesh (Galatians) dominate rather than the fruit of the Spirit.

It's becoming lukewarm- yuk!, and eventually dead cold, of which some whole churches are guilty of. Please read Revelation 3:15,16. "If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth." I John 2:6.

Corrections

Counselor-pray to correct his own life before counselling.

Lead the hurting Christian into repentance, confession and restoration so that the love of Christ, the love of the Word and the love of service returns.

What caused the hurt?

Explain being born again.

God knows about sin-I John 1:9

1. Repent and confess to God
2. Forsake the sin
3. Restore - make right any wrongs
4. Renew spiritual life - prayer, Bible reading and church service
---barba6786 on 5/30/05

Causes

1. Disappointment in the real or imagined inconsistencies in "other" Christians

2. Ignoring Bible reading, prayer and witnessing in our Christian life

3. Ignoring spiritual truth - unwillingness to change to meet some Scriptural principle

4. disappointment in God's will for my life - a bit like Jonah I suppose

5. Willful sin that remains unconfessed. Each person is responsible for his own acts before the Lord. Needed-repentance and confession.

I have noticed that the first signs are they try to find fault in the church, and in others, start gossiping, doesn't listen to the word being preached, being figity, doesn't come to church half the time. Then they just fall out.

Webster's - backsliding - to lapse morally or in the practice of religion.

In a deeper sense it means to lose one's fellowship with the Lord, to grow cold and indifferent to spiritual matters, or even to fall away (apostacy)
