Ghosts, if they exist (and their existence is unproven) would not have a physical presence, so we would not be able to interact with them, nor would they be able to influence us.

So, frankly, it wouldn't matter if they were bad or not, since they would be outside our sphere of perception.

After Jesus's resurrection, he deliberately asked Thomas to touch his wound to PROVE he wasn't a ghost. He wouldn't have needed to do this if belief in ghosts was unreasonable.

Andrea: Thanks for your comments. If I have offended anyone, please for give me. No harm or meanness was intended. And we must always maintain a teachable and loving spirit.
---Robyn on 9/9/07

Lord...may we ALL learn how to show YOUR kind of love when we disagree with each other and not attack or criticize each other. Teach us to always speak in love, walk in love and abide in Your love. Amen!

Ps, 146:4- "His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth, in that very day his thoughts perish."
Eccl, 9: 10 "Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might, for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest."

When Jesus found that Lazarus died, he "groaned in the spirit and became troubled"..."and wept" John 11: 33, 35
Jesus knew the pain that death brings. If there were an afterlife with ghosts, he would not have felt that way, and there would be no reason for a resurrection.

Robyn I like you and Hollys posts - I'm here to learn and share like you.
I don't want to offend you either but sometimes WE ALL need to be told to examine ourselves and guess what - I've never enjoyed being told to examine myself. So I don't expect anyone else to.
And I'm glad your not here for a popularity contest - your free to be as firm with me as I am with you. Be Blessed.
---Andrea on 9/8/07

Andrea: I told Holly the truth. We are here to share and help one another. That is exactly what I am doing. I am not here to win a popularity contest. I am here to share my faith and the truth with those who are seeking it. There are people on the blog who are not saved. The truth need to be spoken, at all times. We don't want to give opinions and cause someone to stumble. We have to put the Word of God out there(the truth) or we will have to stand on account of what we have done. I showed love to Holly.

I would not say "ghost" but use the word demon. Demons are spirits(Matt.12:43,45) and they are satan's emissaries.(Matt.12:26-27). They are numerous and they are capable of entering and controlling both men and beast(Mark 5:11-13). They are unclean and violent and they know Jesus Christ as Most High God and recognize His supreme authority(Matt8:31-32, Mark 1:24, Acts 19:15, James 2:19). God Bless!

Thank you Andrea...you are right...there are some on here that I agree with wholeheartedly at times and then they might post something that I totally disagree with at another time, however, there is never a reason to be mean to anyone. Afterall...no two people agree 100% with each other at all times, not even married people who have been happily married 50 years! God did not create us to be cookie cutter people with everything the same, that would be really boring! Be blessed everyone!
---Holly4jc on 9/8/07

Robyn - I'm not trying to imply your a cult - I don't think that but your attitude with Holly was just wrong.
Get over yourself girl! We all have misplaced opinions or teachings. i agree with holly today tomorrow I might not. But we're hear to learn and share.
If all you want is to hear from the 'coerrect' you can get bible commentaries all over the web.
Be Blessed.
---Andrea on 9/8/07

Holly4C - I just laughed out loud ---that is the same kind of thing I hear from the cults all the time!
When they have no argument the tactic is attack.
Be blessed i voted for you the first day I started reading your posts and enjoy the love and patience you express. Keep it up.

1) Ok, so maybe I did not explain myself properly in my previous post, however, I stand by what I was trying to say in my post...the Holy Spirit does not appear as a ghostly figure. Yes in the bible (King James Version) the Holy Spirit is referred to as Holy Ghost, but in that context, it is not the same as a "ghost" that appears as an apparition. Strongs refers to the word Ghost as wind, breath, things that are referred to as having no material substance.
---Holly4jc on 9/8/07

2) When the Holy Spirit or if you want to say Holy Ghost is present, He does not appear like a "ghost" as this blog is talking about those kind of ghosts...that is why I refer to the Holy Spirit as not being a "ghost" in that kind of context of a ghost. I hardly think that this is a stumbling block to the readers and I do not believe that the Lord would disagree when I say that the Holy Spirit/Ghost does not appear looking like an apparition or the type of ghost people here are...
---Holly4jc on 9/8/07

3) ...inquiring and speaking about. And to any of those on here who felt I was a stumbling block or got offended, I apologize, for that was not my intent. I am guilty of not expressing myself properly. Sorry! :-)

Be blessed Robyn :-)
---Holly4jc on 9/8/07

The word spirit and ghosts are synonymous. Either word is correct,Holly4jc. You really need to study and learn more before you even try to share on this blog with anyone.
Most everything you say shows your lack of wisdom and knowledge of spiritual things. You need to know this: we are not to be stumblingblocks to anyone. If you are saying things before doing your study and research, you could be a stumblingblock to someone. You will have to give an account to Jesus, for that.

He is the Holy Spirit...not the Holy Ghost. The 3rd person of the trinity is a Spirit just like Father God.

The definition of ghost is:
The soul of a dead person, a disembodied spirit imagined, usually as a vague, shadowy or evanescent form, as wandering among or haunting living persons.

Who of you have seen the Holy Spirit appear this way? No one...the Holy Spirit resides within us if we have given our hearts and lives to Jesus, He is not making appearances to us as a ghostly figure.
---Holly4jc on 8/26/07

Good explanation Steven g...

There are also "familiar spirits" which are demonic spirits assigned to a particular family line.
---Holly4jc on 8/26/07

I'd refrain from saying things like "ALL" ghost are demons since the Holy Ghost is NOT a demon.
---Ken on 8/26/07

Leslie- Since you have calssified these things as demons, would you mind telling me WHERE they reside? Keeping in mind that GOD IS EVERYWHERE, in other words there is nowhere that HE IS not. Peace be with you.

Ghosts are demons.
---Leslie on 12/31/06

there is no such thing. only satan and his demons pretending 2be whom u know. satan can do tricks 2 n sadly, many r being so deceived by this menace. There r other spirits only they r demons waiting 2 devour the good.My sister was deceived once n once is 2 many. I was practising piano playing when I heard some noises next room. I was only one in church but was not going 2 give in 2 the devil if it was. I kept playing my hymns for an hour praising my Savior. I felt so good doing that.No more noises then.

Stay away from anything having to do with ghosts (except, of course, the Holy Spirit) including ouija boards, et al. It's a trap of Satan's. I attended several seances in the late 1960s and early 1970s (only as an investigative observer) when a couple was summoning a dead uncle. When the dead man's "ghost" appeared, they, thereafter, believed wholeheartedly that ghosts are real because the couple asked questions only the three of them knew about...
---Steveng on 10/7/06

An explanation, which is as good as any, is that demons surround a person from the time they are born until the time they die, knowing every little secret of that person. After you die, the demons split and attach themselves to another baby. When a person tries to connect to the dead, either through themselves (dreams, etc.) or though a medium (a sance, etc.), the demons re-unite and answer any questions to make you believe in ghosts and therefore turn you back on God.

Although I believe ghosts probably don't exist, I am still curious about Jesus telling the two criminals that were crucified with him that "you will be in paradise with me on this day".
His statement flies in the face of those Christians who believe we will all lie moulding in our graves until Jesus resurrects our dead bodies and judges us.

According to Jesus's statement, your soul must go somewhere.
---TL_Myers on 10/7/06

There's only one ghost in the real sense, and that's The Holy Ghost! All others are counterfits, demons [fallen angels], sometimes disquised as angels of light. No such thing as a good ghost, all are bad, can be dangerous, and come from the (d)evil one! They can fool you. There are 'EMBODIED and UNEMBODIED SPIRITS', Jesus left them here on earth after defeating them! Fear Not! Lke.10:19>20. [Not To be confused with 'MINISTERING SPIRITS'! Heb.1>'14']
---ELishama on 6/14/05

Ray,
Thank you for your concern, I have never seen a ghost. I was just wondering. I'm kinda new with christianity and want to do what is right.
---sue on 6/9/05

Sue,
Are you asking because you have had encounters with them yourself? Or, are you asking because of what you have seen on regular TV? If the latter, remember that most people have fallen for Satan's lies, and believe in ghosts, UFOs, etc. If it's because of personal experiences, please let your pastor or a mature Christian know who can help you. Let me know if you would like to talk more.

Sue,
Yes, evil spirits/ghosts= real angles, who used to live in heaven, then rebelled with Satan and were cast down to planet earth. Rev.12:7-9 Read also Paul's experience in Acts:16: 16-18 where Paul drove out an evil spirit from a slave girl.
Finally there is Saul's experience when he went to see a witch to consult Samuel's spirit. God is very much opposed to all activities which are tied to witchcraft, magic etc because it is a tool the devil uses expertly to deceive us.
---Pierr7958 on 6/4/05

No one seems to have a problem with the Holy Spirit also called the Holy Ghost. Goodness does not frighten most people.

Anything evil we all seem to want out of.
---barbara67 on 6/4/05

Good question Sue: Below the level of the Trinity, I believe there are many other spiritual dimensions. It is our choice which world we wish to allow into our consciousness. I choose Father, Son and Holy Spirit. I don't allow a foothold for any other spirit.......ghosts included. The only exception to this is God-ordained angels. Even then, I would test them in the name of Jesus. I encountered a ghost once and just rebuked it away in the name of Jesus Christ. No problem! PTL.
---Elsie on 6/4/05

1 Samuel 28 v 7&8 calls them familiar spirits-you are covered by the blood of Jesus and cannot be harmed

No. Not in the sense that they are the spirits of the dead. The scriptures are quite clear on that (see Eccl 9:5,6). There are, however evil spirits (fallen angels) that masquerade as spirits of the dead in order to lead us to destruction.
---Jerry on 6/4/05

I think there are ghosts and I do not think they are bad. I don't go along with Sylvia Brown and/or that Crossing Over guy that we can/should talk to them and all that stuff tho!
I'll stick with the Holy Ghost as He brings life and peace and comfort and instruction and truth and a witness of Christ.
---rachel on 6/4/05

No, there are no such things as spirits of dead people hanging round after they die. There are demons who fool the the foolish.
---mike5663 on 6/4/05

Hi Sue,don't think there are ghosts but I do believes there are "Spirits". As a child of God we are protected by Jesus Precious Blood and be it ghost or spirit they can never comes near us, not unless you fear abt such things. Remember in the bible is stated that God does not gives us the spirit of fear but he gives us the spirit of love and of a sound mind. AMEN!!!!
