What Is Theology All About

Can anyone please tell me what theology is all about? I have an uncle who is a priest and he sounds pretty confused by saying stuff like. It is questionable that Jesus exists, what kind of subject is this that says things like this that suppose to confirm your faith.

If you want to dig deeper in understanding the Bible, and the living God, you need Bible tools. That is what it is, you know, digging deeper. Even Satan can quote scriptures. However, Satan is not going to pull out the dictionaries, commentaries, or a theology book, or concordance. Satan just isn't going to do that. So, there is your answer. Note: Make sure your tools uses scriptures for you to refer back to.

Those that use philosophy & theology even to twist scriptures to say what it doesn't say.
Even those so called ministers that have earned Dr in front of their names.
Are here, 2nd.Tim.3 v 7.

Theology from Greek: theos= god + logic= learning; study of. "theology" means "the learning or the study of God". But your uncle is accepting the secular ideation of atheism. God is supernatural, therefore the natural mind concludes God to be illogical and nonsensical, and it becomes easy to dismiss God and Jesus as fallacy rather than fact. Ex: How can a virgin have a baby; how can God become a man; how can a man walk on top of water; etc. Your uncle should accept the Holy Scriptures.

Theology was once considered the highest science in the University, for several centuries a university without a theology program was considered a poor university.

It is the Acedemic study of God or Gods. Of course God cannot be studied from an acedemic approach. It is sad that a Priest would cause a relative to doubt by saying such things. I was an athiest as a child and young adult and remember my mother saying "there is no God and only the ignorant believe in one". She was in college at the time and studing theology. She became an English and History teacher, but she and I remained athiestic until I was 32. Don't listen.

Theology is the study of God, and your uncle has lost his faith. He is not alone and there are others like him in all denominations. You should quietly tell him to step down from his position until he gets re-acquainted with the Holy Spirit.

Theology is the study of God such as Paul had prior to being converted and led by the Spirit. It was the carnal teachings that he would soon see deeper with the Spirit of wisdom and revelation he would write about. In conclusion, it's only a starting point at best and many times overrated and leads people astray exalting them in their own minds and making them unteachable by the Spirit.

I'm not sure what your question is really about. Your uncle is a preist that questions the existence of God? Pray for God to reveal Himself to him in whatever manner it would take for him to believe. God will do it if he is honestly seeking. As for your qestion, "What is theology," simply put, it is the study of God.

Bottom line: "Theology" is from two words."Theo" meaning God, and "ology" is the study of something. So "Theology" is the study of God. Theology that states Jusus didn't exists, is not theology. Theology, is the study of God, not a statement of God.

Theology is the study (from logy=logic) of God.

Good answer, Billy.

Someone once said, "Theology is simply the truth about the truth about Truth."

There's also the saying, "He who prays well is already a theologian."

It's rational discourse about God:

From the Greek: , theos, "God", , logos, "rational discourse"

Anything you say about God is theology. But, you can say true things or false things, like in any other subject. Even priests have accepted false teachings sometimes. You shouldn't be fooled just because they call it theology. Your uncle obviously knows nothing about correct Christian theology, or else he's under the influence of false teachers. Tell him to read the Bible and the Nicene Creed and remember what Christianity means.
