Gen 3:15 and I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed: he shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

One of the set backs of Christianity is it is heavily influence by the Greeks. Nearly all of our MS are in Greek, And Christianity has followed after 300 yrs of Greek culture. Even in the Early Roman Empire. So we adapted Platonism and much Greek philosophy in our thinking (i.e.spirit vs material). That is why we ask these questions on mysteries of scripture that have no answers, (Predestination, Moment of Salvation etc) as the Greeks did. The Hebrews culture when faced with biblical mysteries simply accepted it without questions and never asked.. They never had sciences, philosophy they simple accepted God at Face value. You can see this in Hebrew OT not the LXX. |

Larry, I agree that the bride is the church but I do not believe that the woman and the church are the same. The woman, who I believe is the Holy Spirit, gives birth to Jesus and then later She gives birth to the remnant or the bride. The church cannot give birth to itself.
John 3 verse 5 tells us very clearly that unless a person is born of the water and the spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. We have to be born of the Holy Spirit as was Jesus to enter the Kingdom. Rev. 12 verse 5 and 17 show us the birth of Jesus and the birth of the 144,000 who prepare the bride for the wedding feast. |

The woman in Rev.12 represents the catalyst to and for the inception and development of what we now refer to as Christianity. Zion, mother of Israel, coming out of her infancy into her maturity to give birth to a new covenant. A calling out of those who will prevail and have power as a prince, called out of the lesser light of the law, into the greater light of grace through faith in the Father's Anointed Savior.
It is revealed to the nation of Israel that unto her a child was born, her Father's only begotten Child, brought into being through one of her own. A Son given and named as Savior, whose name is called Wonderful, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, Emanuel, God with us. |

All of you are wrong..The woman and the child are the current living descendants of the old Jewish tribes in the end times. More specifically, this woman gives birth to the child who will one day grow up and lead the Army of the Lord. The rod of iron is given to him by the authority of Jesus. That is why Satan is attacking her. She is not Israel or Mary Or a group of people. She is singular and very real. Her role far extends beyond giving birth to her son. Her son is not Jesus. He is a real person, born of a real woman. That is why the womans chapter is next to the anti-christ chapter. They had to introduce the two opposing leaders that are alive on earth during the war. |

In Revelation 12 the reference to a woman referrs to the state of Israel. You can study up on the city of Petra(an ancient city in the desert 70 miles south of Jerusalem) for a better understanding of this event. Also the born again believers will have been raptured away before this. |

Not sure Barb, maybe you are right but I think its the church because later in Chapter 19 it mentions the WIFE getting herself ready for the marriage of the lamb has come. (bride being the church).
Others believe that because of Rev 12:5 (she bought forth a man child) the reference is to the virgin Mary. |

The woman in Rev. 12 is the Holy Spirit. Please notice that this woman is in heaven. The church at this time in the scripture is not yet in heaven.
The Holy Spirit is Jesus' mother. Matt: 1:20. Luke 1:35.
Rev. 12:17 "And the dragon was wroth with the woman and went to make war with the remnant of her seed" (those born of the Holy Spirit) John 3:5. Those born of the Holy
Spirit are the brothers and sisters of Jesus. Rev. 14:6 "every nation, and kindred and tongue and people." Not Israel although every member of Israel will have the chance to accept or deny the testimony which God sent Jesus to give us. |

Dan 12 presents and explains an important symbol of prophecy: THE WOMAN.Throughout the Bible, the symbol of a woman is used to represent a pure and true church. The woman clothed with the sun represents the true church. The sun represents the glory of the gospel dispensation.
There ae 4 themes in the imagery:
the woman about to give birth
the hatred and persection of te fragon vs the woman
the watchcare and protection of God for his church
he identification of the last true church upon which Satan akes war.
Because of the persecutions the woman must flee into the wilderness.The earth is seen as providing a refuge fo the persecuted church.

The woman in Revelation 12 is Israel. There is no biblical exegesis to support the belive that is the church. The only reason why some biblical commentaries insist her to be the church is ONLY becuase they want to equate the Pope with the Beast. If the Catholic church is the harlot then the woman in Rev. 12 better be the church. They are wrong. The harlot is not the catholic church and the pope is NOT the beast.
The harlot is Islam and the beast is a soon to come Syrian-Muslim brokered by Turkey. A man who will rule over Iraq, Iran and lebanon. As soon as the U.S. leave Iraq, Iran will take over and divide the land between them and Syria/Turkey. |

The Woman is the VISIBLE church. She represents the 7 collective churches of ch 2-3. The man-child represents the INVISIBLE church, the Overcomers of ch 2-3 who will "rule with a rod of iron". It is the OVERCOMERS who are caught up (raptured) to heaven. The visible church then loses her position and is persecuted by the now Satan possessed AntiChrist but she gives birth to other children.., the Tribulation saints. |

The woman gave birth to Jesus (12:5), and so cannot be the Christian Church. While the sun, moon and stars connect her to Isreal, they adorn her as an accessory. She is Jewish, but is not Isreal. Each component in the narrative (in CODE) is an actual entity not a group, so is does not make sense that the woman would not also be a single entity. Mary did suffer the tribulations mentioned - she did flee to Egypt so that Jesus would not be murdered by Herod as a young child, suffered when He died. |

Then the Kingdom,
*Acts 1:6&7 * restored to Israel at that time. The 1000 year reign.

The stars are in their coarse, Judges 4&5 refer to the 12 tribes of Israel when they were going to war against Sisera.

The woman is Israel. We know the woman is symbolic just like the dragon which represents Satan. In Gen. 37:9-10 we see that the sun, moon, and twelve stars represents Israel. Rev. chapter 12 is an explanation of Israel's history until the end of the tribulation. Verses one through five are pre-church, and from verse six on is post-church. So the woman is not the Church. The woman is not Mary because she is not persecuted in the tribulation. It is a dual reference prophecy. |

From my studies, I believe it to be all three. The women is in Genesis, at the cross, and here in revelation. Typology can have multiple layers of meaning in the same verse. Hope this helps some. |

To me it is Mary, in vs 5 it talks about she gave birth to a man child, who was caught up with God into his throne. I think that satan is going to try to take over the throne again before Jesus comes back. because God casted him out onto the earth, and he told the overcomers to rejoice in heaven, and told the dwellers that Satan and his demons were casted down onto the earth. Satan tries to make war with the woman's seed (Jesus). I could be wrong, this isn't an arugement, this is my thoughts. |
