the second woman (great prostitute)is also telling us her name she sits on seven nations has domination over the kings, arrayed in purple, and scarlet and adorned in gold, and jewels, and pearls and a cup of abominations and impurities of "her" sexual immorality. also she glorified her self and lived in luxury and in heart she says i sit as a queen, i am no widow so mourning shall i never see. yet she falls in a single day death mourning and famine as she is burned with fire. this looks just like banking system that is on the verge of global mount down, no money no food no food very sick simple

alex has one the best thoughts on revelations i have read in a long time as far as the man child being a seed of renewed god conciousness. i have recently came the conclusion, the galaxy is the woman. google pictures of the galaxy. many ancient civilizations called the center of the galaxy the womb. the mayan calender ends 12/21/2012. on that at sun rise the sun crosses the canter of the galaxy, as seen from earth. now through the moon in the picture, and you will actually see a great woman in the the sky clothed with the sun, moon at her feet and a crown of twelve stars

The woman in chapter 12 cannot be the church, because Christ gave birth to the church, not the church giving birth to Christ. It also cannot be Mary the mother of Jesus,
---Michael on 11/13/09

Wait a minute, how can it not be Mary other than your bias statement! Did Mary give birth to our Saviour, Y or N ?
---Ruben on 11/13/09

To understand who the woman is, we must first determine who the Child is. The chapter defines the Child as a male who "was to rule all nations with a rod of iron. And her Child was caught up to God and His throne." The most logical and scriptural identification of the Child is Jesus (Isaiah 9:6). The woman in chapter 12 cannot be the church, because Christ gave birth to the church, not the church giving birth to Christ. It also cannot be Mary the mother of Jesus, for we see the events that unfold concerning the dragon and the woman was past the death of Mary, during the time of the great tribulation. The only choice is Israel. Is. 7:14, 9:6, 66:7-8, Mic. 5:2, Rom. 9:4-5.

the woman is also a type of israel,b/c god made abraham 2 promises, bout 2 seeds,1 was earthy and 1 is heavenly, 1 of abraham seeds would be as the stars of heaven in multitude, and that 1 heavenly seed is christ gal 3v16,but that 1 seed has to be multiplied as the stars of heaven in multitude, thats y the sower goes forth to sow his seed mat 13, he wants to multiply himself by sowing hs seed in the hearts of humanity, jesus says that the field is the world, thus the woman is the world/bride/israel,whosever will, the woman is giving birth b/c of hearing, the word/seed,the child is multitudes.the same being in rev 19 v15,on his head was many crowns meaning he will be as th stars of heaven, our coming king and kingdom,a lil child shall lead them

The woman in revelation 12 is the same your Father decribes in Genesis

Gen 3:15 and I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed: he shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

Pierre is Correct! Way to go!

Pierre left out that the Woman can also mean Mary! If the Woman gave birth to a male child and we know it was Jesus and the seed in Genesis is also Jesus, how can so many not mention that the Woman can be Mary? Notice in both scriptures it is singular Woman, Serpent(dragon) and Jesus, just a thought!
---Ruben on 11/12/09

the woman is symbolic of anybody washed in his blood, the church/bride are peoples of all nations, tongues, and kindreds that are pregnated by his word,ya member jesus says the good seed is the word of god,and the field is the world where the seed will be sown. its always requires a seed for a birth, peter says being born again of an incorruptible seed ,EVEN BY THE WORD OF GOD,that liveth and abideth forever, the woman is rev 12 is the best example of the new birth, and she is global, god so loved the world, paul sees the whole world in travail and birth pangs, the woman is giving birth to a baby christ, unto us a child is born unto us a son is given, whosoever recieves one such child in my name receives me,his word is his seed, the sower is the bridegroom

the woman in rev 12 is the bride, church, she is married to christ and she is bringing forth fruit unto god. romans 7 v4 says you are dead to the law by the body of christ that you should be married to another even to him that is raised from the dead and you shall bring forth fruit unto god,the manchild is fruit unto god, thats y he is caught up to god and his throne, the child is a baby christ, this is a spritual pregnancy, thus a spritual child, as jesus says, that which is born of the spirit is spirit, she was pregnated by the word which is spirit and life. whosoever hears the word and keeps it,the same is my mother and brethren, whosever receives one such child in my name receives me,unto us a child is born, jesus is the husband/bridegroom

One of the set backs of Christianity is it is heavily influence by the Greeks. Nearly all of our MS are in Greek, And Christianity has followed after 300 yrs of Greek culture. Even in the Early Roman Empire. So we adapted Platonism and much Greek philosophy in our thinking (i.e.spirit vs material). That is why we ask these questions on mysteries of scripture that have no answers, (Predestination, Moment of Salvation etc) as the Greeks did. The Hebrews culture when faced with biblical mysteries simply accepted it without questions and never asked.. They never had sciences, philosophy they simple accepted God at Face value. You can see this in Hebrew OT not the LXX.

Larry, I agree that the bride is the church but I do not believe that the woman and the church are the same. The woman, who I believe is the Holy Spirit, gives birth to Jesus and then later She gives birth to the remnant or the bride. The church cannot give birth to itself.

John 3 verse 5 tells us very clearly that unless a person is born of the water and the spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. We have to be born of the Holy Spirit as was Jesus to enter the Kingdom. Rev. 12 verse 5 and 17 show us the birth of Jesus and the birth of the 144,000 who prepare the bride for the wedding feast.

The woman in Rev.12 represents the catalyst to and for the inception and development of what we now refer to as Christianity. Zion, mother of Israel, coming out of her infancy into her maturity to give birth to a new covenant. A calling out of those who will prevail and have power as a prince, called out of the lesser light of the law, into the greater light of grace through faith in the Father's Anointed Savior.
It is revealed to the nation of Israel that unto her a child was born, her Father's only begotten Child, brought into being through one of her own. A Son given and named as Savior, whose name is called Wonderful, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, Emanuel, God with us.

All of you are wrong..The woman and the child are the current living descendants of the old Jewish tribes in the end times. More specifically, this woman gives birth to the child who will one day grow up and lead the Army of the Lord. The rod of iron is given to him by the authority of Jesus. That is why Satan is attacking her. She is not Israel or Mary Or a group of people. She is singular and very real. Her role far extends beyond giving birth to her son. Her son is not Jesus. He is a real person, born of a real woman. That is why the womans chapter is next to the anti-christ chapter. They had to introduce the two opposing leaders that are alive on earth during the war.

Mima: A woman in prophecy stands for A CHURCH
A pure woman stands for the TRUE CHURCH while a fallen woman stands in for a false religious system.
The woman in white,in REV 12, represents the true church, the apostolic church with its pure doctrines.
The woman is pregnant and she is about to give birth to a child Rev.12:2-5 J E S U S!
Herod, representing pagen Rome tried to kill
the baby but failed.
That is when the dragon turned his anger against the WOMAN which is the EARLY CHRISTIAN CHURH!

In Revelation 12 the reference to a woman referrs to the state of Israel. You can study up on the city of Petra(an ancient city in the desert 70 miles south of Jerusalem) for a better understanding of this event. Also the born again believers will have been raptured away before this.

Accordin to my Bible, the woman must flee into the wilderness (v6). It does not say that the woman, symbol of the true church, is in heaven (yet).
---Pierre on 7/6/09

Not sure Barb, maybe you are right but I think its the church because later in Chapter 19 it mentions the WIFE getting herself ready for the marriage of the lamb has come. (bride being the church).
Others believe that because of Rev 12:5 (she bought forth a man child) the reference is to the virgin Mary.
---larry on 7/6/09

The woman in Rev. 12 is the Holy Spirit. Please notice that this woman is in heaven. The church at this time in the scripture is not yet in heaven.

The Holy Spirit is Jesus' mother. Matt: 1:20. Luke 1:35.

Rev. 12:17 "And the dragon was wroth with the woman and went to make war with the remnant of her seed" (those born of the Holy Spirit) John 3:5. Those born of the Holy
Spirit are the brothers and sisters of Jesus. Rev. 14:6 "every nation, and kindred and tongue and people." Not Israel although every member of Israel will have the chance to accept or deny the testimony which God sent Jesus to give us.

Dan 12 presents and explains an important symbol of prophecy: THE WOMAN.Throughout the Bible, the symbol of a woman is used to represent a pure and true church. The woman clothed with the sun represents the true church. The sun represents the glory of the gospel dispensation.
There ae 4 themes in the imagery:
the woman about to give birth
the hatred and persection of te fragon vs the woman
the watchcare and protection of God for his church
he identification of the last true church upon which Satan akes war.
Because of the persecutions the woman must flee into the wilderness. The earth is seen as providing a refuge fo the persecuted church.
Summary: The woman=the true chuch in Dan 12.

Well, I can eliminate Mary and the church. So it has got to be Israel.
---catherine on 7/2/09

The woman in Revelation 12 is Israel. There is no biblical exegesis to support the belive that is the church. The only reason why some biblical commentaries insist her to be the church is ONLY becuase they want to equate the Pope with the Beast. If the Catholic church is the harlot then the woman in Rev. 12 better be the church. They are wrong. The harlot is not the catholic church and the pope is NOT the beast.

The harlot is Islam and the beast is a soon to come Syrian-Muslim brokered by Turkey. A man who will rule over Iraq, Iran and lebanon. As soon as the U.S. leave Iraq, Iran will take over and divide the land between them and Syria/Turkey.
---Jose on 7/2/09

The Woman is the VISIBLE church. She represents the 7 collective churches of ch 2-3. The man-child represents the INVISIBLE church, the Overcomers of ch 2-3 who will "rule with a rod of iron". It is the OVERCOMERS who are caught up (raptured) to heaven. The visible church then loses her position and is persecuted by the now Satan possessed AntiChrist but she gives birth to other children.., the Tribulation saints.

Again, Noone really seems to know for certain. I believe that it is Israel. Here is some scriptures. Keep in mind there are other scriptures that could point to Mary or to the church. But I believe these scriptures are the most compelling. Micah 5-2 and Romans 9,4-5. Have a great night.

The woman gave birth to Jesus (12:5), and so cannot be the Christian Church. While the sun, moon and stars connect her to Isreal, they adorn her as an accessory. She is Jewish, but is not Isreal. Each component in the narrative (in CODE) is an actual entity not a group, so is does not make sense that the woman would not also be a single entity. Mary did suffer the tribulations mentioned - she did flee to Egypt so that Jesus would not be murdered by Herod as a young child, suffered when He died.

---Erica on 3/15/06

The woman is Israel. We know the woman is symbolic just like the dragon which represents Satan. In Gen. 37:9-10 we see that the sun, moon, and twelve stars represents Israel. Rev. chapter 12 is an explanation of Israel's history until the end of the tribulation. Verses one through five are pre-church, and from verse six on is post-church. So the woman is not the Church. The woman is not Mary because she is not persecuted in the tribulation. It is a dual reference prophecy.
---Rick on 7/22/05

She is the Christian Church: Verse 17 reads that the dragon makes war with the remainder of her offspring (the christians),..."which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ." The AntiChrist rules 3 1/2 years, but the gates of hell cannot prevail against the Church.

To me it is Mary, in vs 5 it talks about she gave birth to a man child, who was caught up with God into his throne. I think that satan is going to try to take over the throne again before Jesus comes back. because God casted him out onto the earth, and he told the overcomers to rejoice in heaven, and told the dwellers that Satan and his demons were casted down onto the earth. Satan tries to make war with the woman's seed (Jesus). I could be wrong, this isn't an arugement, this is my thoughts.

Revelation 12 - come, but rather a recapitulation and representation of things past, which, as God would have the apostle to foresee while future, he would have him to review now that they were past, that he might have a more perfect idea of them in his mind, and might observe the agreement between the prophecy and that Providence that is always fulfilling the scriptures.
