Isaiah 8:19 And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the dead?

Isaiah 8:20 To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, [it is] because [there is] no light in them.

Nothing outward as far as I know.
I am not sure what outward means here.
What does outward mean

But Jesus, said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house. Mark 6:4. Sister you can not rely on others to reveal it to you. The first remark by Ben reveals the greatest truth.
---tess on 7/30/10

Prophets. They reveal God's truth and are black and white. They can see a heart of a person. They are misunderstood as being harsh when only revealing truths. Then go back and hide in their cave when done professing God's word.

I just want to mention that it is important to understand that the "psychic" is a COUNTERFEIT of the prophetic. Just as there are false churches, false religions, etc. the enemy counterfeits what God does. If there is a counterfeit, you can be sure there is the REAL THING. Jesus is Lord :>

Rebecca_D: Thanks for your insight. I do agree with you. I could not have said it better. I received a prophecy over 7 years ago. It has not happened yet but I feel it will come to pass. I believe the prophet was real. Blessings to you

If the spirit of the Lord spoke to a woman to prophecy, to someone then it will come to pass. If it doesn't than it wasn't the spirit of God speaking to her. I don't think one can spot one out in a crowd, unless the spirit revealed it to them. I think there were 11 women that were prophetesses.
---Rebecca_D on 8/18/07

Bethany if you feel the Holy Spirit is leading you into this area, by all means go for it..pray and pray and pray for guidance by the Holy Spirit and believe in it will be directed accordingly..I will pray for you as well..may the love of God shine thru you in your walk.

If one studies the prophets in The Bible, one will discover that the function of a prophet is (in a nutshell) to compel God's people-Jews in the O.T.& Christians (Jew & gentile) N.T.-forward, to turn their hearts to God and elevate their standard of morals. Prophets are confronters, the
'sheepdogs'of the'flock'. Rarely God shares a glimpse into the future, but only for the purpose of revealing that if His people don't repent, calamity will come...or if they do repent, blessing will come, etc.

Prophets bring the same message as other brought they would never say different because the God is one God and his message never change, Jesus brought the same message as Abrahim Mathew 19:17
---Kelly on 8/13/05

I agree. a man that I know, told someone that such and such will happen, within a certain date, it didn't come pass. Needless to say, neither person goes to church any more. To me if a person has enough God in them, then the ones who do prophecy will be different.
---Rebecca_D on 8/13/05

, well, i wish these standards held true for all "prophets" and not just those who truly are.
---steve on 8/13/05

The first question people will ask Steve, is, "How do you know, what did God show you, tell you"? I do know that if God called anyone to prophecy then what they said will come to pass. I have seen it, heard it through God from my Pastor.
---Rebecca_D on 8/12/05

, i have to ask, if i were to call myself a prophet, what would the reactions be? i'm not a prophet, i'm just wondering.
---steve on 8/12/05

, i want to emphasize that it is very important to guard against feeling like a prophet, or questioning those who would caution others in this matter. God is above us all, and he alone will decide who speaks for him.
---steve on 8/1/05

, i once knew a prophet. he told of things that eventually came true down to the last detail, and he never let anyone know his name. he was always humble, always spoke like no other person does, and pointed countless people toward Jesus. how unlike the "prophets" of today.
---steve on 7/30/05

more....with prophetic utterance, from my experience, you never know what you are going to say. If you do then its coming from your mind and reasoning and understanding but God will give you an image, a word, a thought, the first word of the sentence. Then you have to step out in faith and trust God. That's what I meant about the challenge to your ego. You step out in faith and God will meet you just as Abraham went up the mountain not having the answers but knowing that God would come through for him.

Bethany when you feel like you are putting your whole reputation on the line and yet you still wrestle with it and ultimately find that the desire to share this word is more important than the fear of rejection or your reputation even though you may only have the first word or sentence of the prophecy, then go for your faith and boldness increases God's gift will increase also.
---lisa on 7/29/05

and Bethany also there are people that will attack you because of the calling God has upon your life esp as a Prophet. Have you noticed they wont attack a pastor.apostle, evangelist, teacher but for some reason they hate Prophets hmmmmmmmm wonder why? Could be a Jealous Spirit....or just unlearned as to God' ways.
---LEA on 7/29/05

, watch out for those who claim to be prophets/prophetesses. in these last days, many will decieve themselves and others by claiming to speak for God. many will be led astray.
---steve on 7/29/05

MANY ARE CALLED BUT FEW ARE CHOOSEN....He knows those that he can trust as his spokesperson. He takes the foolish things of the world to counfound the Wise....Moses could not speak very well and David was a Shepherd if we look at the ones God used mightly in the Bible they were not scholars or self righteous but very down to earth common folks, people who when God spoke they took forth his word not caring what mankind thought but being obedient to their Master JESUS CHRIST AMEN.

Lea, your comment is priceless, thankyou.

Reading this:
"God will only be the one to give you your Anointing in a dream or by a Vision.....

(this statement gave me enormous peace) unsure why?
"Many are afraid of Prophets for God endues us with Power we know things about People that only God knows"

'...and he also will use a Prophet in many of the Five Fold ministries' ...
so one can be a Preacher Teacher Evangelist etc.? as well as moving in the prophetic?
---bethany on 7/28/05

bethany, you are welcome.I know one thing I am called to do is intercede for others, but we are all told to pray ye for one another. When we love God and one another the power of God moves to enlarge our borders. What God calls you into God brings His power there to you.God Bless you and lead you ,may His Kingdom grow by the souls saved through your ministry.May His light shine in the places you need to see more clearly and may you be strengthened with all His love and Spirit.

Bethany a true Prophet is a man or a woman Anointed by God as his Speaker ....God will only be the one to give you your Anointing in a dream or by a Vision.....Many are afraid of Prophets for God endues us with Power we know things about People that only God knows and he also will use a Prophet in many of the Five Fold ministries,Also a Prophet should have the fruit of the Spirit operating in their life Gal 5:22-23....try their Spirit and know that they are of God.
---LEA on 7/28/05

Thankyou Darlene, very appreciated.

Yes its His Ministry, as we are His servants.

Intersession is not my calling, but I do pray for God's counsel and wisdom more these days, and I pray for absolute clarity when any dream/vision/insight comes.

Only on a few occassions the Lord has specifically told me to share a particular revelation, with those I have come to trust implicitly, and whose walk with God is mature and well grounded (Leaders I mean).

Again, thankyou.

bethany,I could preach but I never considered myself a preacher, nor when I prophesied did I think I was a Prophet. There is no need to put a title to anything we do for God.All we need to do is obey His leading, operate in the Gifts He chooses and let the rest of it all fall in place.God showed me trainwreaks, huricanes, airplane crashes etc. before they happened so I could pray.Thats all we need do unless God specifically tells you to share what you see.Rest in the Lord. It's His Ministry.

Hi Steve and others,
thankyou for all your comments,

Am I troubled..oh yes, so much.

I know I have the gift of insight and words of wisdom, Im fine with that understanding.

I have dreams and insight of world events, which always, so far, have come to pass.

Sometimes, a day later, a week, a month, it varies, I just dont understand why?

Im an Evangelist, why the other?

Any advice?
Pray for me, I feel lost at the moment.

Though a person gives a prediction for the future it doesn't make them a Prophet. To prophesy isn't to be a Prophet.Prophets adhere to God's Word/His Will above all things. They have many of the GIfts of the Spirit not just foretelling.Look at OT Prophets, they healed, brought the dead to life, counseled, creative miracles,Judged all besides prophecy. They had the power of God moving through them in many ways. They served God,He was their focus in life.Their prophecys were proven as facts.Guides to God's people.
---Darlene_1 on 7/28/05

A good prophet(ess) is a person who speaks the Word of God, as in messenger. Note: It does NOT necessarily involve predicting future events. It does involve speaking the TRUTH as opposd to a false prophet(ess).

Imagine I am five years old - now explain to me the above question.!
---bethany on 7/28/05

Sorry my original comment fell into the wrong category. In my experience, I've known several people that claimed to be prophets/prophetess- the problem was that something would happen and then they would say "God showed me that 3 weeks ago." I have found that the gift of prophecy is very hard to describe and I also believe this gift goes much deeper than "predicting the future." Is there something specific that you are troubled with about this gift?
---steve5967 on 7/28/05

Cont'd. Of course the predictions of a fortune teller might come true, sometimes just coincidence but also the devil is good at counterfeiting the things of God. He did this a number of times when Moses confronted Pharoah and continues to do so now to confuse people. Stay close to God and He will help you to be discerning regarding what you are really seeing and hearing. God bless.
---Xanthi on 7/28/05

Bethany, is it that you want to know what the term 'prophet' actually means? If so, a prophet is someone who hears God's voice regarding something that is going to happen to 'a person' 'in a certain place' 'at a certain time' etc. You could almost liken a prophet to a fortune teller EXCEPT that fortune tellers are either working for Satan or they make it all up. A non-Christian will never be a prophet because God will not entrust such information to a non-Christian. cont'd.

The outward evidence of a prophetess or a prophet is that what they prophesy comes about. If it doesn't that is evidence of a false prophet.
---Xanthi on 7/28/05

Steve, thanks for your comment which came under "Where are the Christian Leaders'.

However, edifying the church seems to fall into the 'Office of the Prophet' - I mean, can someone please break it down a little more?

---bethany on 7/27/05

A true prophet is determined by all the prohecies they utter actually happening. If all the prohecies they utter do not come to pass they are a false prohphet.
