Here you see a brother becoming a sinner again and becoming converted again, and is saved from death again. Poof Texts: James 5:19,20 Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him, Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his, way, shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins

This is to the Brethren of the Faith... Poof Texts: James 5:19,20 Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him, Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his, way, shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins. James 1:14.15 But ever man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed, Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

Everybody backslides and everybody moves ahead at times, its part of living in the flesh. Thank God our sins are not counted against us. When we start moving ahead there is great joy in heaven.

Dear Kit, I take the word backslider to mean one who moves away from God. The person stops going to church, stops taking part in Christian activities, and stops living the Christian life. Many reasons. The person may have been hurt by their particular congregation, and be blaming God, or they may have begun to doubt and disbelieve, they may have got mixed up with the wrong sort of people, become lazy. So many ways to turn away from our loving Father.

Backsliding is as the word suggests SLIDING BACKWARDS referring to your heart, because the walk with God is as it says, A WALK and that means moving forward. When the heart is in a state of backslide, it can be subtle and you can play church and fool everyone if your a good actor. You turn up but instead of your experience at church being like a journey, its cold, unfeeling and you're even critical of the "super spirituals"......etc etc etc

When someone leaves their first love. (God). When someone is backsliding you will know it, they will try to find fault in church, won't pay attention to the service, misses church, then they just stop going to church, and now are cold. To come back to God, God has to deal with that person's spirit and they must ask for forgiveness. but since they have backslide, they have to start over with God, they can't just pick up where they left off with God.

He said He would never leave us nor forsake us. once we have sinned all we have to do is repent and our relationship or fellowship is restored. All He was is for us to re open the lines of communication with Him, He is just waiting on us! He is always wooing us to come back, it would take a pretty hard individual not to heed to God's loving kindness. I was a backslidder and thank God I am here back with Him. (so people do come back alot more then we know)

It is sliding back into sin. Some return to God, but many do not, and they continue in their fallen condition and die in their sins forever separated from God.

Suppose you have asked the Lord to come into your life fully, that would lead to your eventual sanctification = forward progress.
If however you decded to take charge again of your life, asking God, by returning to your old habits, to back off, that would = backsliding.

Could I stay on the subject but take a slight detour with this question and ask 'Do people mean the same by back-sliding and falling from Grace?' In some churches these terms seem to be interchangeable whilst in others falling from Grace seems to be a much more serious issue.

It does mean moving away from spiritual matters, to the point that God can not use that person the way He wants. Once that fellowhip is re-established, (through repentance,)God can use that person again, (assumming the repentance was real.)
"Backsliding" deals with fellowhip - not relationship. (For example: you are the child of your parents forever, but you may not get along - fellowship - with them.)
