People think they are better through ignorance, arrogance and pride. And just being human. Humans have a lot of baggage they deal with. I mostly think ignorance. People have been taught from an early age a lot of wrong ideas and beliefs. Pray for people like this. God has a way of bringing us down when we get too high and mighty.
---Robyn on 8/26/07

Lucy, it's a terrible sin when we think ourselves better than others, and ESPECIALLY when we think it's our religious life that makes us better. It's called spiritual pride, and it's the most damning sin that exists. Pride is the sin that caused Satan to fall, and it's corrupted more people than probably any other. It's been described as "spiritual cancer", and we should be merciless to the very first sign of it in ourselves.

Carly: Ok, now I'm impressed. And your point? Or are you practicing to become an investigative reporter for the National Equirer? : )
---Steveng on 3/22/07

I was studying parapsycology, spiritualism, ESP, ghosts, numerology, whichcraft and demonology, religions, flying saucers, psionics, channeling, way before the internet became the internet. I even attended Satan's churches, several seances, and other paranormal phenomenom (not as a participant, but as an observer). How else are you to learn about the enemy (Satan) and try to reason with people who are involved in such things.

I did it out of love, sweetheart. Sometimes a Christian must be harsh. On another blog, people were giving their interpretation of the seeds. There were four, but non of them correct. How do I know? It was as plain as the noses on their faces, but they did not see.

Danie: Maybe, he'd just seen some very ignorant and/or heretical ideas related to numbers elsewhere on the Net, and wrote in frustration before thinking;
It's a good thing you said 'maybe,' unfortunately most people will read the sentence bypassing the maybe. Mothers say I'm patient with children, bosses ask how I could be so calm while everyone else is running around like chickens with their heads cut off.
I do think before I write or speak.

I'm not sorry for saying "sweetheart." I've been calling girls from new borns to 90 year olds for as long as I remember. I speak it, I write it. I'm not going to stop because I offend someone. I'm not part of the polically correct party, I'm my own person guided by the Holy Spirit.

Jason: I'm not married.

I'm writing a book on parenting. (In a dream - I walked up to this one couple who had two children. I pick up the 4yo girl and asked her her name. The parents told me she could not speak or hear. I started talking in tongues to her and the girl nodded her head. The parents were shocked. The child and I conversed in tongues for an hour (shown on a large digital clock on the wall which was at 11:57).

I rarely tell my dreams to anyone except a handfull of my closest friends. They're dreams unlike anyone elses I've heard or read. The parenting book is from my 33 year personal journal in which I've worked closely with children and their parents as a tutor and teacher for a couple of years (tutoring is more rewarding). I have woven Biblical principles and medical advancements throughout that prove the Bible is correct.

I'm a street preacher, I don't get paid. I work as a technical writer and graphic artist for an avionics company. The streets, the parks, the cafes I patronize are my churches/buildings. The people I meet in the streets, in the parks, in the stores are my congregation. The Christians I meet on the street are my fellowship. Need I say more? Christians don't need buildings.

Carly: Huh? Are you sure you're not miximg my name with another post? I'm talking about how today's Christians deny the true power of God. They rely too much on science, technology, and politicians instead of God to fix the problems of the world. As of this very moment, evangelicals are taking sides on the global warming debate. If prophesy says it's going to happen, how does man think he's going to fix it without Jesus?
---Steveng on 3/21/07

Steveng, there's alot of vanity in your posts and alot of talk about young kids.
I think adults are on your naughty list, and kids are on your nice list. You spank adults and love on kids. I do hope you don't love on kids too much as a substitute for what happened in your past.
---Carly on 3/21/07

Most Christians today are so vain to think that they are better thatn all the Christians and Godly poeple in all of history. How can Christians be so vain to think that they will escape the tribulation when all other Christians and Godly people had to go throught it? True faith is practically nonexistant today. Today's Christians deny the true power of God. Why do I say this?...
---Steveng on 3/20/07

I have a wonderful idea!!! To all who do not consider themselves to be followers of Jesus Christ; get saved, get into His Word, and then show us how a Christian is to live. That would be very helpful to us all.

And I also challenge the rest of us who do know Jesus to really start showing it.

We will still say things that offend but they better be from the Word.

May Gods love be shown in all of us.

Who do Christians go to to get healed? Man or God? Who do Christians go to for mental health? Psyciatrists or God? Who do Christians depend on to fix the woes of society? Politicians or God? Who do Christians parents depend on to educate their children in moral matters? The schools or God? (most churches fail at this too) Who are Christians now going to for help about global warming? Scientists or God? In today's world God is taking a back seat to world problems.
---Steveng on 3/20/07

We all need a little lesson from 1 Cor chapter 13 sometimes. You must also remember that the word of God is sharper than a two edged sword... so if the word is offensive we are not lining up.
---MARK on 3/20/07

Candace, you are so right. Many people love to spout their own opinions on many subjects. Ask them to back up their words with scripture and they hesitate or are offended. They then lash out or become angry. They love to hear themselves talk and show their knowledge. It is like saying Hey look at me, I got a degree at bible college, so everything I say is right or true. Oh the vanities of man, when they put themselves above God.
---Dave on 3/20/07

Jesus specifically showed us that being humble is what we should be. Not all Christians are the same. We all make mistakes and we are all human after all. Those who think they are better possibly hide the fact that they are human. Jesus can see right through us and if someone has a true relationship with Christ, he/she knows they are not better, for without Him they are nothing.

It seems you've encountered some unfruitful brethren. Nonetheless, if we have not love... We all have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God. No one is perfect and no doubt there may be brethren that are not as the Bible would have them be but our job is to pray for them and if possible, teach them the biblical way to behave, in love, not in judgment. If they continue to act ungodly then maybe they are not truly born-again. Pray for them anyway.
---Yolanda on 3/20/07

I think people just want to boast their own opinions & forget what Jehovah wants. See, man made up all these denominations under the "chrisitanity"umbrella that's one reason why they think they're better then anyone else .
---candice on 3/20/07

It is true we are not to boast. But there is a scripture that tells us we can talk about, if it's okey with Jesus ofcourse, the things He has done for us or is going to do for us. Here again it's in keeping your eyes on Jesus. Acting too much like, who me. Could also be a sign of false pride. Oh me! Oh my!
---catherine on 3/20/07

Reading the blogs, I understand why Jesus told us not to boast about our works. Pride is not of God. We are to live in meekness and humility and show Him all the glory. If we boast, we have received our reward on Earth. Wouldn't you rather follow Jesus Christ in humility and receive your reward after this life. Lead by example every day. Actions are far louder than words, but do not boast that you are saved. You may discover something completely different at the judgment of God.

Catherine; so a Christian shouldn't brag about being saved? Be proud of being saved? Shouldn't brag or be proud that we are a child of the King? I'm sorry but I am proud to say that I am a child of the King. It is a privilage to be in God's chosen family, do you not think?
---Rebecca_D on 3/19/07

Actually, Unless one is truly saved you have no business praising God. It is mocking God. The ones that are saved, it is only by the skin of your teeth. Absolutely nothing for us to brag about. If anyone feels they are mistreated, the wise thing to do, is to take it to God.

They know who they are. They stand up and praise God's name and then condemn others if they do not do the same. They are the ones who visit other lands and tell them their belief's are wrong or desecrate their shines. Just because we believe Jesus Christ is our Savior and died for us, does not give us the right to judge others or force our beliefs onto them. We see it on here all the time on all the blogs. We are to shun evil and live by example in meekness and humility, not arrogance and pride.

I have often come across Christians who think they are better than other Christians.
Sad and quite unwarranted.
I've found those who have been "born-again" through a sudden flash of enlightenment, think they are better than those who have become born-again through quiet study and teaching.
But conversely there are those learned Christians who look down on the suddenly cdonverted new Christians, because they will not yet have much detail learning
---alan_of_UK on 3/19/07

I have met Christians who feel their church (building), or their ministries (outreach), or their Pastor is the best.
Some people are quite near arrogant in their conversation and demeaner, and do not apologize for it.
I smile when I meet those who are lifted up and prideful because I know there is something they may not realize, God is no respecter of person's, and the Gospel is the Gospel. In a tent, or a mansion, He is always the same, and that's all that counts.
---lynet on 3/19/07

Excellent point! Yes, Jesus THE CHRIST was humble. However, some of his followers do a disservice to his name while claiming to be Christians! Just peruse this site and you will quickly find evidence of that. This site is a microcosm of our society. There are some ANGRY, mean-spirited and violent Christians in the world. Sadly, I am not shocked anymore when I come across these types of behavior, because I KNOW people hide their true feelings behind their religions.
---I_AM_I on 3/19/07

People use their religions to further their SELFISH desires, even though Jesus was all about SELFLESSNESS. However, upon being questioned, a person INDOCTRINATION will reveal itself. Thank God we have the ability TO ASK PIERCING QUESTIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Prove all things. 1 Thess. 5:21.

We donot think that we are better than everyone else. How could we? It is such a dangerious career. We have our eyes on Jesus not people. We work hard for Jesus. We donot know why God saved us. No, we are no better. Each of us know where we came from. And I for one will never forget.

Pride cometh before the fall. Many christians are self-righteous and arrogant. They show disrespect for others. muslims hate christians. In 1286, christians desecrated the mosque of the rock. sacred to muslims, where mahammod ascended into heaven.Muslims became angry when they turned it into a church. They vowed Jihad would be fought to this day and many have been killed. many christians show no respect for the beliefs of others or things sacred to many. They are imprisioned or killed for that arrogance.

I often thought of the same thing...when my late husband and I attended Seminary there were a lot of Christians who thought they were better than anyone else...many times I had to remind them to get their noses out of the skies and back down here to earth and get real and then reminded them that even on the very best of days that we are just sinners saved by Grace and the same holds true today...
---fran6775 on 3/18/07

Jesus washed his disciples feet, to let them know he isn't any better, isn't above them. I am no better then anyone, and vice versa. Take a person with alot of money, they think they are better because they may have the best of money can buy. They would look down at me because I'm not able to do that. but I have a Father who own's it all. I am poor little rich girl, and proud of it.

Bible Verse
"Consider others better than ourselves".
better in this sense means more important than.
It is often difficult, humbling & energy consumer to keep seeing others more important.
Jesus did not ignore rich people however. He even used them in parables. He just offered them the same challenge with more personal wealth to give up to get it.
Imagine having to give up EVERYTHING AND EVERYONE to follow Christ.

Please Lucy do not think all Christians are prideful and arrogant. The Word of God is very clear about this (read Psalm31:2;36:11;73:6; Proverbs 8:13;11:2;16:18) That shows you how much God hates pride (there are about 50 references to it) including "pride goes before our destruction". You are right, Jesus our precious Lord, was the most humble man on earth. Anything less than that is blatant sin! Thanx for your question Lucy.
---Elsie on 8/7/05

Jesus being the Master over all, became a servant and even washed their feet, and tells us to be servants also. Jesus talked to the outcasts of society in order to save them, and not to condone their sinful behaviors. Many call themselves christian, but they are not, and don't even personally know Christ. And still others are living in the flesh instead of in the Spirit. The disciples also had this competition defect. Please read Mark 9:33-37; Matthew 18:1-5.

I remember when the Bible college moved into our area and we were friends with the Bible students. They always looked down on me because I went to the state college and was getting a degree to teach in public school. They were going into ministries and to work at Christian schools. It's a shame that pride and arrogance are part of a Christian's life.

Quite honestly, it is because of PRIDE. Because of Israel's pride, they did not become the kingdom of priests that God wanted. So he sent his Son. Again because of Israel's pride they would not except him as their Messiah. Today is no different. Man is to prideful, thinking them more highly than they should. Christ made himself a servant, as we also should become a servant.
---geraa7578 on 8/6/05

We're not better than the other. The enemy leads us to believe this "pride of the mind". Churches are full of people who think they own them, run them, ect...This is an irritant that separates God's people. God is looking fondly at the humble, faithful ones. He who is least shall be greatest.
