This is kind of more like another question than a response. I would like to know if someone can direct me to whereabouts in the Bible it says that Satan cannot understand prayers when they are in tongue. I read a thorough article about the gift of speaking in tongues that just ran me all over the Bible. I learned alot but still was left without the answer I was searching for.
---Teresa_Raddatz on 11/7/11|
The devil is not everywhere at once. Go read people who died and came back. they did not see Satan at all. Why would a loving being(GOD)? Never mind that question cause you cant answer it!! And most did not go to hell or see it God loved them for who they are. So get out of your box and live!!!!
---Sheils on 7/31/11|
Number one for sure. He can also hear how much you hate him. SHOUT IT, SHOUT IT. I DO! Prophesy outloud Satan can hear you. Hallelujah. I am going to say, "no" on the second one, Jesus.
---catherine on 4/14/10|
People don't worry if satan can hear your prayers, for we pray to God almighty, and yes devil does flee from a person who is praying, another thing ask Jesus Christ for the gift of Holy Spirit and He will give it to you if you desire it with all your innocent heart, because Speak of Tongues is a direct prayer to God and no one else can understand it, not even the satan or his demons.
---Yevgeniy on 4/14/10|
First and foremost, it was put on my heart that you shouldn't have any fear when you pray, you have FULL authority over the Devil, you rebuke him and he must flee. but to answer your question, yes. When you pray out loud, Satan most definitely can hear them. However, he cannot hear our thoughts, only our LORD GOD can so he can't hear a prayer in your head Although, if you're like me, it's not always fulfilling to pray inside so there is another option... Being baptized in the Holy Spirit and receiving the gift of tongues. When you pray in tongues the Devil CAN NOT understand it.
And it is written... check it out...
(Mark 16:15-18, Acts 2:1-4, 1 Corinthians 14:1-5 , Jude 20.)
---Elisa_Harrelson on 2/2/10|
It is possible for Satan to hear our spoken prayers if he is listening. Since he's not omnipresent or omniscient, he has to be within "hearing" distance...chances are, he seldom is.
He does not hear the prayers of our heart. But he understands our nature very well...sometimes better than we do ourselves.
He, or his demons, can cause plenty of trouble and temptation with absolutely no knowledge of our prayers.
IF Satan DOES hear our prayers, as Christians, we have no cause to be troubled.
1Jo 4:4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
---Donna66 on 6/15/09|
can he hear you when you pray? i talk to god alot at anytime sometimes to myself-so pray out loud or not?
---angie on 6/14/09|
Satan is NOT Omnipresent. He goes to and fro seeking whom he may devour, but he is not omnipresent like God. Satan is an angel and like all angels he isn't omnipresent.
Another thing about satan is that he can only do what you allow him to. You allow him the say way you allow God....by the words of your mouth.
In the Lord's prayer it says, " Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven..."
That isn't asking God to do something that is telling/permitting God to do something.
Another thing is that in Ephesians 6 it shows that satan isn't who we are wrestling with. Therefore, he isn't omnipresent.
---Rickey on 5/12/09|
rigor read Job, you'l find out that the devil is NOT omni-present by the way, he has only dominion over the (spiritual) darkness of this world. and then he still needs his angels and demons to help him. (read daniel wher it is obvious that every nation has his "angel" or ruler. far away from omnipotent. and deffenately not allknowing. my dog is more powerfull then satan ( and i dont even have a dog)
---Andy on 5/12/09|
The answer to your qeustion is yes satan can hear your prayers because he is omnipresent, he has dominion over the earth itself, it even says that in your bible.
---rigor on 5/12/09|
Satan can hear your prayers if you speak it out loud as you speaks God's word out loud as a "weapon" against satan- God is the "Only" being that is omniscient (All Knowing) who knows all our thoughts---satan cant read your mind---hope this helps-feel free to respond to my email address
---Vanessa on 5/11/09|
Since scripture does not speak definitively on this topic, that should tell us that it just doesn't matter. Rather, scripture offers explicit information about Satan's abilities. Job tells us that whatever testing/tempting Satan performs in our life is only with God's permission (Job 1:6-12). Also, 1 Corinthians 10:13 gives us a promise regarding our temptations: we will never be tempted beyond what we can bear. In short, since scripture is completely sufficient to equip godly men and women (2Tim 3:16-17) and scripture does not warn us (implicitly or explicitly) about Satan's ability to hear our prayers then we shouldn't worry about it.
---AMP on 5/9/09|
I dont know that the bible exactly and with certain specificity addresses this first topic. However, I believe the bible is quite clear on the mode and scope (or limit thereof) of satan and we can draw some definitive conclusions from that. You see, in order us to say that satan can hear our verbal prayers inherently do we mean he can hear all prayers? If that answer is yes then that would imply he is omnipresent, which is a quality only attributed to our Glorious Lord GOD.
---Brian on 5/1/09|
Satan can hear anything that is spoken. He cannot hear your heart.
---cindy on 1/7/09|
satan knows people according to what they daily talk about and how they act.
he can hear you when you pray outloud, praying word based prayer outloud is the only kind that God will answer. because faith isnt faith unless you speak it.
satan cannot know what you are thinking but he can attempt to influence your thinking. his influence is through and by the world system and standards.
but if you think and act only according to God's word, and dont react to that satanic influence by saying it or doing it then the devil has no power over you.
plead the blood of Jesus and bind the devil to keep him out of your life.
---opalgal on 1/7/09|
The question I always ask myself is when we receive an answer from God, "How do we know he is the one that is actually answering us and it is not evil misguiding us"?
---june on 1/6/09|
I am sure Satan can hear our verbal prayers. Perhaps prayers of out heart.[spiritual warfare] yes it is! In Dan. 10: 12,13>>>Sometimes our prayer life is made difficult due solely to Satanic interference. Also, The devil has acquired an immense amount of knowledge by simply being around during the last 6,000 years. We understand, the devil does not know the future, nor all the secrets of the past. Can you believe that sin corrupted Satan to the point where he still thinks he can defeat God. [how stupid] That is, the devil is stupid.
---catherine on 1/5/09|
I would like any available scripture on whether our spoken prayers are kept hidden from Satan, or not. We are told to cast our cares on God, and if Satan can eavesdrop, he gets the complete picture of our areas of doubt, fear, unbelief, and vulnerability, and knows just where to hit us next. I would like to believe that we are shielded from this by God's protection, but just "wanting to believe it" might not make it so. This fear is causing me problems in my prayer life, and I would appreciate any scripture you might have on this.
---Kathy on 1/5/09|
Our verbalized prayer? Maybe, sometimes. Unspoken prayers? Not at all!
But why does it make a difference?
Who has more power, Satan or God?
I'm not afraid when I'm communicating with my Heavenly Father. There will always be traps laid for me by the enemy....no matter how or when I pray. I can only trust the Word and the Holy Spirit within to help me recognize his tactics and keep me from falling.
---Donna66 on 10/22/08|
IF perchance Satan is standing next to you, of coarse he can hear your verbal prayers...
I don't believe he can hear what is in your heart.
---kathr4453 on 10/22/08|
I was taught, when I was a small child in the 60's, to rebuke Satan silently in my mind when I had night mares. I have had the habit of rebuking Satan in silence (although I do it out loud some now) for my entire 48 years because of this. Now, I've been told that he can't hear me that he only hears me when I tell him out loud. Why would God let me believe that all my life if it wasn't true? I'm confused!
---Juliana on 10/22/08|
Speaking in tongues so satan won't hear your prayers is wrong. It is not something you just do, it's a spiritual gift from God, not a learned thing. It does not matter is satan hears your prayers. I find when you go boldly (loudly sometimes) before God he often answers those prayers much faster.Put your faith in the Lord, not the enemy. Trust God loves you enough that if you are taking time to pray to Him he's got your covered. Give the enemy no thought. Follow Christ and you have nothing to worry about.
---Jaden on 5/8/08|
You may be chosen, but you are also frozen.
Anyone who gives satan that much control in your life will be frozen in fear of ever saying a prayer outloud. That will bring you into complete bondage and chains, worrying if the devil is listening to your prayers. And giving him so much of a leash, thinking he's perverting everything you're praying. Far too much credit and giving him too much place in your life.
---Mario on 7/30/07|
Satan does not know the prayers in your heart. But have you ever tried to pray silently for long periods of time, you can lose your train of thought. Don't be worried about what the devil is listening in on, keep praying. God will deal with him.
---Mario on 7/30/07|
1. Yes, satan can hear your prayers.
2. He hears your prayers for this simple reason, as your words are released into the atmosphere they are picked up by spirits. Be mindful that the way God works in us, through and around us, satan also does the same. So don't think satan comes in the form of evil and he doesn't know our heart because he has little spies out there waiting to suck your words out of the atmosphere and turn them into something other than what you meant them for.
---Chosen on 7/30/07|
Mod .. "Only God is omnipresent. Satan is a created being with limited abilities" I did NOT say God was omnipresent. I suggested though that seeing the scientific powers that WE have now, it is not unlikely that Satan's powers greatly exceed what we can do.
Moderator - God is omnipresent; it's Satan that is not.
---alan8869_of_UK on 4/9/06|
I want satan to hear my prayers, that way he knows that he's defeated and where he has to go.If your prayer's are being answer satan is being defeated so pray loud with a lot of faith take the kingdom with violent prayer.
---Exzucuh on 4/9/06|
1cor2:12 tells us about the spirit of the world which is the spirit of Satan or anti-christ this is how he operates, Jesus told the jews that their father was the devil because they were of his spirit.Adam prophisied two seeds from Eve, the Son of God and the Son of perdition. thats why we must be born again

Satan can only hear your prayers if said aloud. Satan cannot read your mind or your heart so by praying silently he's left to wonder.
Moderator - Satan isn't omnipresent.
---Nellah on 4/9/06|
No satan can't be every where at once but he has a hold lot of imp's thats every where.
Moderator - The imp's aren't everywhere either. Very few Christians are doing anything that would cause Satan the need to be watching us.
---Betty2 on 4/9/06|
Mod you asked me "Please show the scriptures that state Satan is omnipresent" I had not actually said he was omnipresent, and I do ot have scriptures to show he is, and I wonder if you have scripture to show he isn't. But if we now have equipment to keep in touch worldwide and instantaneously (mobiles, computers etc) I am sure Satan's powers are greater than ours.
Moderator - Only God is omnipresent. Satan is a created being with limited abilities.
---alan8869_of_UK on 4/9/06|
Satan can't read our mind but he can hear our prayers But he can't understand our prayers if we pray in tongue"s.
Moderator - How about Satan can't do any of the above because he isn't omnipresent.
---Betty on 4/9/06|
I do not know what omnipresent is. I pretty much agree with Alan8869 though. Satan is a tricky thing but I belive the name Jesus has power (as well as Jesus) and satan is undoughty lessened by it. I wouldn't worry about it, your prayers are His and you are His and he'll always have the power over satan regardless.
---Alexandra on 4/8/06|
Can the devil hear any of our prayers? I sometimes wonder if he can actually hear our prayers whether they are verbal or silent. If the devil can place thoughts in our heads then shouldn't he be able to know some of our thoughts as well(God willing)? Can the devil actually answer our prayers? God has promised us in Jeremiah 33:3 that He would answer us if we call upon Him.
---Kay on 4/8/06|
He can't understand your prayers if you pray in tongues.
---dan on 3/11/06|
In all things Christ is our example. He prayed out loud lots of times. Do not concern yourself with Satan or his abilities. 1 John 4:4, "Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world."
---Bruce5656 on 9/29/05|
But that cannot hurt!
Our prayer to God cannot be interruspted or delayed, nor can whatever response God has for us.
So pray out loud or silently as you will. It does sometimes help to say it out loud, and when you have others praying with you it will be out loud.
---alan8869_of_UK on 9/28/05|
I believe that Satan does know what we are doing, what our weaknesses are, and that he is constantly looking for ways of undermining our faith. I do not believe he is a physical human being limited to being at one place at a time. Although maybe he has his under-devils who do a lot of the work for him.
And so I believe that Satan knows all our thoughts, spoken or not, and so knows all our prayers to God
Moderator - Please show the scriptures that state Satan is omnipresent.
---alan8869_of_UK on 9/28/05|
OK. So should we pray aloud or not? This has been bothering me for a while. I am worried that the enemy will delay my answer from God as he did for Daniel. Would you please be more specific in your comments? This would help me a lot.
Moderator - Of course pray out loud.
---Lily on 9/28/05|
Yes, Satan COULD hear our verbal prayers if he is around at the time that we are praying. You see, Satan is not omnipresent like God is, which means he can only be in one place at one time. More than likely, Satan himself is not listening to us pray. There are demonic forces that Satan may use when he can't be somewhere though. But even they can't know the prayers of our heart. Only omniscient God can.

Actually, I hope Satan CAN hear my prayers. Then he will know how much I love God and how much I rebuke the devil. Just as God cannot look upon evil, I believe Satan cannot bear to look upon righteousness.
---Nan on 9/9/05|
if you pray aloud, satan can hear you but he can't do anything about it. He already knows our weaknesses and that is what he plays mind games with us. He is slick.
---shira_5965 on 8/11/05|
Patra, he may be able to hear our verbal prayer, but he can't know what is in the deep recesses of our heart. we don't even know all of that. If I have a very important prayer, I ask the Lord to make the enemy deaf and dump concerning my personal prayer to God. This doesn't mean that the enemy is stupid, he knows our habits, but when we throw him a curve we can be a step or two ahead of him. It works!
---John on 8/10/05|
Yes he hears our prayers, but like an eavesdropper listening in on private conversations, it doesn't matter. And he knows some of what is in our heart, for out of the mouth the heart speaks: like runs with like, and he knows those who are not like him.
---Eloy on 8/10/05|
The answer to the first question is yes but he cannot do anything about it becasue we are talking to our God.
No he he does not hear or know what is in the heart. There the holy spirit dwells and God is present.
---Mary-3653 on 8/10/05|
Linda, We just started a Study on "The Power of a Praying Woman". One of the ladies commented that it seemed within days after she prayed about a specific area of her life, Satan would attack in that same area. She asked these questions of us.
---patra on 8/9/05|
The answer to the first question is YES. The answer to the second question is NO.
---bebet3754 on 8/9/05|
He can definitely hear prayers said outloud. He would like you to believe that he can read your mind. I believe he draws on his observance of man over the centuries and his watching every detail of a persons actions to create the illusion that he can read our mind. Personally I like to praise God outloud because I think it's twofold. Are you having a problem in this area?
---Linda on 8/9/05|
Satan can hear our words but not our thoughts. He can not hear our hearts....he hears our words and so does the legion of evil since he is not omnipotent he can only be in one place at one time...but his evil army and spiritual warfare is everywhere.keep on your armor and follow Jesus he already is victorious
---kelly on 8/9/05|
he could hear our prayers verbally.
That is why it is good to pray the word of God over them. Pray according to God's will, we know that we have what we have prayed for.
I don't think he knows the Christians heart in Prayers. he does not know what we pray for in the Spirit. Create in me a clean heart O" Lord....
God knows are heart, and the mind of our spirit.
I do not know of a Bible verse that says the devil knows too.
Satin, knows his own, just like God knows His!

Satan only has the power to hear what God allows him to. What is more important is that God hears and answers every prayer of our heart.
