Gordon: Your opinion that the Bible doesn't really mean sleep when it is referring to death, but really means alive and well as a disembodied spook contradicts the words of Jesus Himself.

Jesus said:

Joh 11:11,14 ... Our friend Lazarus sleepeth ... Lazarus is dead.

Now I could believe you, or I could believe Jesus. I think I'll go with Jesus!
---jerry6593 on 11/13/10

Rhonda, The word used for the Death of GOD's people is indeed called "sleep", but, it does not mean what the Adventist Church claims it does. "Sleep" for GOD's Saints refers to the physical body of flesh-and-blood, not to the soul and spirit. The spirit does not fall asleep and remain asleep somewhere-out-there, much less in a corroding, decaying corpse. At Death, the believer's soul and spirit remain alive, alert and alive in GOD's Heaven. The Damned, which are in Hell now, will be reunited with their revived physical bodies to stand before GOD's Great White Throne of Judgment before being cast into the Lake of Fire.
---Gordon on 11/12/10

Juanito, No, GOD is not the originator of Evil. SATAN is. GOD allows evil to happen, for HIS ultimate Glory, but, HE does not cause it.
---Gordon on 11/12/10

No! That would make Satan a partner with God.

2Co 6:14 ... what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

There is now no burning hell. The fate of Satan, his angels and the wicked of all ages is destruction in the lake of fire 1000 years after Jesus' return to earth.
---jerry6593 on 11/12/10

Everything you are all speaking of should really refer to John 3:16,

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
---jen4596 on 11/11/10

Rhonda, Satan does indeed go to and fro in Hell and onto the Earth's surface. In Hell is where the Damned are now being tormented. I know that goes against the soul-sleep doctrine,

"soul sleep" unsupported by Gods Word

no verse supports the ideas you have implied

further ...the DAMNED are tormented every day on EARTH ...violence hate rape vile immoral acts only has to look to holocaust horrors and butchering of humans to understand the depths of mans evil nature

hell is the grave ...seeing there are no Scriptures indicating Satan is "ruler" of hell ...and seeing Satan is eventually cast to outter darkness forever
---Rhonda on 11/10/10

Where did you get the idea that Satan would ever be the ruler of hell, or that his angels would be playing harps, lupe?
---Cluny on 11/10/10

Eloy, You are exactly right! GOD is the Ruler of Hell. Hell and the Lake of Fire are both tangible expressions of GOD's Holy Wrath and Hatred for all evil and evildoers. Blessings!
---Gordon on 11/10/10

Rhonda, Satan does indeed go to and fro in Hell and onto the Earth's surface. In Hell is where the Damned are now being tormented. I know that goes against the soul-sleep doctrine, but, it is the Truth nonetheless.
---Gordon on 11/10/10

Both good and evil originate in God. He rules heaven and hell. He's the king of the universe.
---Juanito on 11/9/10

This is what God is giving me, understand, Cluny, do you? People have a wrong mind-set about HELL, and SATAN. No one will be ruling anyone. You all gonna be in torment. Satan too, torment. Don't be delusional, about such things.
---catherine on 11/9/10

God is the ruler of hell and heaven and satan and all things, and satan is a loser...

Satan is a loser? ah what?

God is in DIVINE CONTROL ...HE gave the Kingdom of earth to Satan 2Corin 4:4

otherwise you would be deceived into believing that God is ruling this morally bankrupt polluted vile world with hate violence lies deception ...and actions following Satan not His Spiritual Laws

Christ stated His Kingdom was not of this world simply because His rulership is in the future an inheritance when He returns when His Kingdom destroys and replaces all of mans Kingdoms on earth rule from Jerusalem as King of Kings

Satan is ruler of the EARTH today not the grave (hell)
---Rhonda on 11/9/10

God is the ruler of hell and heaven and satan and all things, and satan is a loser who will be tortured for all eternity along with every sinner in the lake of fire and brimstone.
---Eloy on 11/8/10

There is no singular "Hell" to speak of, Hell is a construct, based in the minds and souls of every single person.
Upon death, your actions are judged, and you are predisposed to the "Hell of your own creation." Therein lies both the isolation for eternity, and the misery of your own sins.
---Zera on 11/6/10

Satan has complete access, right now, to Hell ...

Rev 12:3,4,7 do not speak of hell no matter how hard one tries to IMPLY this idea only needs to read a little further to comprehend Rev 12:9 ..great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he (Satan) was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

Satan is alive and well ruling earth 2Corin 4:4

there are no scriptures that allude imply this fantastical idea of demons "torturing and tormenting" people in their graves (hell)

Christ is not ruling earth today ...HE leads His spiritual church ...those who are called OUT from the world yet live in the world
---Rhonda on 11/6/10

Satan has complete access, right now, to Hell. He goes to and fro the Earth and Hell. He is not right now confined there in any torture (except what he has lost from being a former Godly angel in Heaven). He torments, tortures and mocks people in Hell. He has a hierarchy of lording over the fallen angels and demons which he influenced to rebel against GOD and follow him, instead (REVELATION 12:3,4 and 7). He has his devils and demons to torture and torment people in Hell.

no Satan is the ruler of earth 2Corin 4:4

this is why Satan could tempt Christ god of this world this is his Kingdom to give ...the temptation Christ overcame was the world of which Satan is ruler was about Satan offering Christ the world and all its governments/kingdoms ...Christ is not ruling earth now is a promise when He returns to destroy the governments of man and establish Gods Kingdom on Earth and rule from Jerusalem

at Christ return Satan will be cast into darkness and ultimately forever remain there as well as the angels who he convinced to follow him
---Rhonda on 11/3/10

no sameul rules hell and was givin "hell" as it is in the northern part of the third heaven.Satan and Lucifer who are two different fallen angels.Satan who is a fallen sepraphim and Lucifer is a fallen archangel. And the two got confused due to the misreading of Isiah 14:12.And Lucifer during the war in heaven was for lack of a better term was satan's "right hand man".Lucifer was banned to hell with the other fallen angles and still await there final judgment in darkness.Satan(the devil) was sent to walk between heaven and earth seeking to destroy the lives of humans and come between there love of god.

Amen Jody. We want to stay out of Hell whether as the Bible teaches it destroys the wicked in the Second death.

1Cr 3:17 If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy, for the temple of God is holy, which [temple] ye are.

We keep out by following JESUS. Keeping our eyes on Him. We are saved by His Grace not by correct doctrine.

Catherine 2/16: That was well stated:). This is an interesting blog. There are so very many different points of view re HELL among Christians. Of course there is only one truth and I do not want to experience hell in the end. Eternal torment does not sound good to me. Belief in Jesus Christ is the only way to avoid hell and establish ones eternity in heaven.
---jody on 2/16/09

In both the New and Old Testaments, the English word, hell, is translated from Hebrew and Greek. It is literally "the grave."

The "lake of fire" appears only in Revelation. The translation to English is from the Greek. It is literally "lake of fire".

Re 20:14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.

Hell is not the lake of fire. Satan does still rule over hell, if you will, because he still has the power of death over those still subject to the law of sin and death. The wages of sin is death: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.

In the end, Satan and his angels, and those who are subject to the law of sin and death will be cast into the lake of fire.

Lucifer will be destroyed in Hell.

Eze 28:14 Thou [art] the anointed cherub that covereth, and I have set thee [so]: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God, thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire.
Eze 28:16 ... thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire.
Eze 28:18 Thou hast defiled thy sanctuaries by the multitude of thine iniquities, by the iniquity of thy traffick, therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of thee, it shall devour thee, and I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold thee.
---Samuel on 2/16/09

Satan rules nothing except those on this earth who give themselves to his control on this earth.

This idea is adopted from Greek Theology with the Hades in chagre of the underworld.

That is not found in the Bible. Read the Bible and see.

Unlike Jesus, Paul never preached hell, never threatened hell, and never used the word in any of his writings. God bless!
---JohnnyB on 2/16/09

Jesus preached more about hell than anyone in the Bible, yet His preachers will come under condemnation for preaching it, from others.>>>>HELL: God's angels will throw them into the blazing furnace. Where the people will cry and grind their teeth with pain [Matt. 13:42]. In hell the worm does not die, the fire is never stopped [Mark 9:48]. in verse 49...Every person will be salted with FIRE. "You are snakes! A family of poisonous snakes! You will not escape God. You will all be judged guilty and be sent to hell"! [matt. 23:33] Another one: And the smoke from their burning pain will rise forever and ever [Rev. 14:11].... If you are saved be thankful.
---catherine on 2/16/09

Hell was made to confine Satan. But like being in a prison, where there are the various levels or hierarchies, Satan will be the top dog there. However God is the one in control of what goes on, who goes to Hell, and gives Satan any power that He decides to give him. After being freed on earth, he ends up confined in Hell. Eventually he goes to the lake of Fire.

Actually GOD Himself is the Ruler over Hell. GOD prepared it with the Fire of His Wrath. He made boundries for Satan, the fallen angels and the demons, in Hell, the World and so far in the heavens. Satan is the god of this Evil world. Satan torments people in Hell, as well do the demons and evil angels. Satan would LOVE for people to believe that he is "King of Hell". But, Satan cannot do anything that without GOD's allowance. GOD truly is in Control over EVERYTHING, including Hell.

A prophet of God from Romania, now dead, was once asked by the Mormon church leaders if he could see Joseph Smith. Yes!! He replied I see him standing with Satan. His prophet's name was Dudman or something similar to that spelling. If the story has validity then it answers the question, is Satan in charge of hell.
---Mima on 7/25/08

Satan has been and is ruling over this planet. He was cast here Rev12 and he has grabbed the steering wheel so to speak. Jesus is allowing him to be in charge. It is what humans deserve for their disobedience even though we were forewarned by the prophets. Eventually he will be sent to the lowest part of Hell (Isaiah 14.15) and people will see him and be amazed that he had at one point deceived all the nations. He is in human form right now, yes, friends, he has possessed a body. Some of us know who he is.

Satan is a loser, and everyone who follows him is a loser. Every person and demons will not be having no kind of party, it will be pure torment. Jesus is the winner. Because He came and stayed focused [He couldn't afford not to], fulfilled His mission. To save His elect from eternal everlasting hell [speaking of heros], There is mine right there. To say, or to even hint, or joke, that Satan is the winner is blasphemy against God. God is the winner in the end. And in the beginning.

Ok Kay, where in the Bible does it say anything straight forward? Do God and Jesus not speak in parables? I believe that Cain is the ruler over Lucifer. The scriptures say that Cain shall rule over "him". In the story that I am speaking of, there are 4 people. God, Cain, Able, and Lucifer. Obviously he cant rule over God, Able is a mortal so cant e ruled over and Lucifer is the only one left. So therefore, Lucifer is neither the tormentor nor the tormented. He is the being under Cain.
---Scott on 7/23/08

NO, Satan has never & will never rule anything.
Rev 20:10 says "tormented day and night forever".
Rev 20:15 tells us that all that are not in the book of life are "cast into the lake of fire". Notice there is no "tormented day and night forever".
---Chip on 4/15/08

Revelation 20:10 says the devil was cast into the lake of fire, not hell. Hell and the lake of fire are not the same. Revelation 20:14-15 says death and hell were cast into the lake of fire, and that is the second death. And whosoever was not found in the book of life was also cast into the lake of fire. But I do agree that Satan is not ruling hell. He rules the earth.

It's quite an absurd concept to think, or teach. that Satan and his demons will be rewarded with dominion over hell to torment souls into eternity. This is another false belief that many have because of poor translation and fleshly desires of revenge being perpetrated by men who value their earthly kingdoms over the truth of the word.

*Yes he is the ruler of hell, just like God is the ruler of heaven. Satan's angels will be rejoicing and having fun tormenting those who are in hell. *

Revelation says they will be tormented day and night forever. DOn't forget hell was orignally created for Satan and the fallen angels, and not as a place of rule but a place of torment and punishment. When they are there burning they won't be rejoicing they will crying out in pain and agony.

The reason Satan wants people to go to hell is not so he can laugh, mock and rule over them in hell. On the other hand, because of His selfishness, he wants others to face the same fate he will face. An eternal punishment, death, and destruction. Satan and His angels won't have a chance to mock them or laugh at them because they will be too busy crying out in pain and agony from their torment.

Im confused with how people say the Devil is a ruler of hell. Please give me scripture to support that. From what I understand the Devil is the ruler of the WORLD. In hell he will be a prisoner and punished and tormented for eternity along with his fallen angels and rejectors of Christ. He tries to turn man against God not so he can have more people to torment in hell but so he can hurt God. He hates God and loves turning his own creation against Him.

Rev. 21:8 lists kinds of people who will go into the lake of fire. 1 Cor 6:9-10 gives a similar list. But the next verse says:

1 Cor 6:11
And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.
