More Women Are In Church

Why are more women than men involved in church? A pastor in my area shared that 61 percent of the pews in churches on Sunday mornings are filled with women. He also said there are 13 million more women going to church than men in the U.S.

There has been a decline in church attendance by men extending back decades.

I am sure there are many reasons, but a major one is: Generallly speaking men are more interested in, and impressed by, tangible physical things. Conversely generally speaking women are more emotionally centered.

Neither attitude is more correct than the other.

Because of widespread acceptance of evolution by the church the result has been a turning away from the practical to feelings.

When people are shown Scripture can be trusted for the truth of our origins, and that evolution is an unproveable belief men react very positively.

When churches return to defending the historical truth of Scripture, from page one, men return.

Trav, glenn,

What does the look of a building have anything to do with the CHURCH?
The CHURCH IS NOT a building BUT the body of Christ. And he lives in us!
Have either of you thought that men and women have become lovers of themselves like Paul said?
Have you thought that we are living in the end times and that what God said would pass is going to pass?
We know what God says does not return void.
So, please lets put the blame where it belongs. It is not women's fault that men don't listen to Christ speaking to their heart the way you two did.

no its not women who are the backbone of this nation, its the idea of self governing government of the people, which includes both sexes.
---tom2 on 9/12/09

my oh my,what a lack of humilty.having lived thru and known generations who memories went back to civil war days,I can tell you that in my opinion both men and women today seek the flesh in all their choices and lifestyles today.Independence, pride, have separated the sexes to a breaking point, which I believe satan is extremely happy about.

I don't claim to know why men have given up on the church and by default Christ but I do know that almost all the men in my family walked away from the church a long time ago.I know that in the case of two of them it was the so-called business practices of adult male Christians that did the trick. It went against the Cristian ethics they had been raised with. They were in their teens and when they left home the left the church and to my knowledge never looked back. Men especially men who bill themselves as Christian would by wise to remember that boys every where are watching.

Women have always been he backbone of this country but have been given very little credit or recognition, for it. Most of the money, work , everything done in the church has been by women.
Women rock the babies, have the babies, run the home, churches, schools, take care of the men.. everything!
This is why satan always tempts or goes through the woman. She is the one who is handling most everything and so it(devil) goes to her, first. Hoping to make her influence the man.

Mary:
Why are you offended?
If I could, I'd take the Church back to the first century old school. I live in Mexico, the land of the 'macho man'. Yet, with few exceptions, both the evangelical and charismatic congregations are run by the females. There is often one autocrat in front, but their women have a saying: 'he is the head, but I'm the neck and turn him anyway I want'. To destroy society: first, raise the women, second, raise the sodomites, third, cause uncertainty, fourth, destroy the economy. Perhaps, due to being raised in an unloving, unstable, or abusive environment, or being taught to be selfish, many women want to control things. They're being tempted by Jezebel, and are rebellious. Genesis 3:16 (Gen4:7).

An idea whose time has arrived. Wish you were here Mary. Come worship the LORD YAHSHUA with us when you can.

O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the LORD our maker.
Psalm 95:5-7

Mary, Christ was a man. Not all, (maybe many) men are Christ-like. The goal is there....we/I fail many times along the way. Forgive us our trespasses if you can when...as we will when....

A man walks in and sees the baby blue speckled paint scheme, the pastel burgundy colored carpet, and the lacquered vases tastefully filled with wheat stalks and lily's. He sings several love songs in a range that he can't reach. The man hears a woman-man, or a man-woman give an insipid message. ....If a congregation has a female bias, the men stay home.

Sad but true.

Seems like the balance are girlie boy,anti-work Wolf Pack cemetary trained preachers...almost never know their subject....life/truth. 1-2 minutes scripture....45 minutes little cutsie stories.

He sings several love songs in a range that he can't reach. The man hears a woman-man, or a man-woman give an insipid message. He ponders as to why she talked about spiritual warfare, and he kept talking about feelings and sentiments. When someone says give your neighbor a big hug, he walks back to the lavatories. The man notices a vague odor of lilacs, and wonders why there is a poster of an Ethiopian runner captioned never give up above the urinal. If a church is male oriented, they'll bring their women. If a congregation has a female bias, the men stay home.

I don't have an answer to your question, but this statement is true for my church. More women are having to assume the work of men in church, too. We even had to go as far as install women deacons. God bless them. They do all the visiting, praying, ect...

Pray also that Christian women everywhere will be Godly-obedient to the word of God as contained in the Bible. (Matt. 5:16)

Folks,

We all serve an awesome God! He is faithful and long suffering, but have you forgotten that we also have a very effective enemy? Satan is roaming about like a lion seeking whom he may devour. He knows that in order to destroy a family, or a church, he has only to take out the head - the man. Women, let's pray for our men to be God's men!! Then we will see change in the home and in the church!
---Crystal on 9/14/05

Believers complain about how wicked the world is but how many of us really witness or even set time apart to pray for the lost. What if women refuse to have sex with men or even date unsaved men before marriage, the divorce rate, shacking up, unplanned pregnancies, single parent homes, disease, and poverty statistics would go way down. What they do after marriage would still have some negatives I'm sure, but alot of the negative things would go down and men would have to change their ways or be gay.
---Mark585 on 8/24/05

Lauren, I agree with you everyone will have to answer for themselves but the bible does tell us that to whom much is given much is also required. I don't know about the situation with you and your husband so I won't comment on that. What I'm saying is, God has given a woman a gift of persuasion that most men don't have and well it's like the man with the one gift who chose to bury it rather than use it for God's glory. anyways that's what I think.

each person stands before God for them selves. I know that God will not force a person to change. or my husband would have never turned his back on his family & God. I prayed diligently for him to turn life back to God. but spouse has own will. It is not corect to say woman are not praying hard enough, or that we go to church for any reason other then to meet with God. some may be but not right to lump us together as false. Men are not in church of their own free will don't blame women for mens choice.
---Laure5469 on 8/24/05

1]Yes I think woman are more willing to hear God tell them to do some thing as some one said men think they can do it them selves.
2] bible was first aimed at men as women were not to read it but husband was to "explain it to them"
3] if women can make a man do any thing he doesn't want to do, how do we get them to church and become leaders of church?
---Laure5469 on 8/22/05

So that's why he has all these traps and bondages that men fall so easily to. Look at our jails. Also if the women in the church get serious and really pray. When the enemy wants to really go after a man or his ministry, he will often use a woman and so it was also in the bible, check out who 2 Sam14. Yea men are used but a woman can influence a man to do practically anything, how much more when she is submitted to the Lord
---Mark585 on 8/22/05

F.F., some things were not "originally" meant to be, but were. If God allowed 'wives' for whatever His reason(s), I have no problem with anything He says or does [Isa.29:16].

Surugates, concubines, wive(s) [Abraham, Jacob, David, Solomon, etc].

Some may not accept the fact we've been in Echad's permissive will since "The Fall".

We die, get sick, etc, even after YeSHUA/Jesus' atoning death & ressurection for the world.

What did Jesus say on this subject?

We all need love but women more so than men and many have come to realize that, only God can complete them. I think that's why it was the women first at Jesus grave and not the men, even though it was the men who were called. Now this is not to put down women but the enemy goes after the head. He knows that more times, when a father is the spiritual leader in his house the whole house will serve God. cont..

Bob "Could be because we men could once biblically have as many wives as we could care for?" I thought that Adam said "Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh." WIFE not WIVES. Multiple wives do not seem to have been part of the original plan - another thing brought about by sin.
---F.F. on 8/21/05

Why does the Bible say a prudent wife comes from the Lord. It never says a prudent husband comes from the Lord. Is it that there is too much of certain traits in women that men should be careful of..It also goes on to say he who finds a good wife finds a good thing. Not only that but, Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. The woman is so important but why is it that the choice should be a very cautious. Synonyms for prudent are careful, cautious, wise, sensible e.t.c
---Rufaro on 8/20/05

I agree with Matt, men are created with a inherent desire to be leaders (to conquer and overtake) and I think giving up control is more challenging for them than women. Women are created to be the helpmate, to submit to the headship of the family, which is the husband. That's the reason I believe it is much easier for them to submit to Christ. Submission is much more natural for women.

Could be because we men could once biblically have as many wives as we could care for, or because of wars, etc, eventually & numerically there's always more women than men everywhere!

Then again, more women than men followed Jesus Christ initially [Lke.8:1-3].

Kill the men, conquer their nation, convert the men, conquer nations is time proven.

Amazons Excepted!

Harder to "break" men, not unlike good horses, but afterwards .....!

Praise God for EVERY soul that comes to church to praise and worship and learn about our heavenly Father. The problem with having so many women is that it can become unbalanced; we need men as well as women. The leadership in the church should make a real effort to bring in more men. It should be a priority!
---Elsie on 8/19/05

I attend a small church, usually 26 max. at any service. ONE is male. No young people. The youngest is about 45 I guess.
---Paulette on 8/19/05

Based on my experience, this is why. Many women are word magnets & will fill a church-house if what's being said from the pulpit, etc., corresponds to the desires of their heart. If it sounds good, is appealing & pushes one's emote button, some women will become a captive audience.

To the contrary, most men are action oriented. That is, "I hear what you say. Now, show me how that works."

Going to the church-house is one thing. Being the church is another. (Mt. 5:16; 1 Pt. 3:1)

Also some women over men have the desire & have the "motherly"touch. Just like myself,I have the title reverend,& am an ordained minister, but i do everything under my husbands direction or at church I am under the male minister at that area. If the job is open& there are no men to fill it, they can't leave it hanging out there -gotta fill the gap& there are qualified women to do so.

One other story: I was so excited to see a few dads helping at my church's VBS this summer. They used up their vacation time to help with their sons' classes. I wish there were lots more men like that in the world.
---Annie on 8/18/05

True in my church, too. When I lived in another city, I was helping in a confirmation class when there was a discussion about women teaching, and one of the men helping in the class was saying it was not Biblical. The pastor then said "If women weren't stepping forward to do these things, they wouldn't be done because we don't have enough men involved in church."
---Annie on 8/18/05

More times than naught, men are more stubborn and think they can live life on their own and take of things by themselves. I am one and know how prone I am to hock everything and do things my way. Giving up control is another huge struggle that men deal with, I think, more than women.
