I'm glad you have taken the 1st step towards salvation. The BIBLE SAYS, YOU MUST BE BORN AGAIN OF WATER AND SPIRIT. (Jn 3:5) Baptism was for the remission(forgiveness) of sin if it was done in JESUS name.(Acts 2:38) You are doing the right thing praying for the Spirit. Here's why. Luke 11:10-13 says God will give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him. Keep praying you will receive it. Don't listen to these i believe and received it people, Jesus said ask. Acts 19:1-6 the people had believed but had not received, also in Acts 8:14-17 they believed but had not received, but the apostle prayed for them to get it. When you get it will come with tongues like Acts 2:1-4,10:44-48,19:1-6. Get it the bible way it still available. God Bless

i recently (2 weeks ago), commited my life to Jesus Christ
. i havent been speaking in tongues or anything like it. I fell more like its a slow process , water dripping slowly until your soul is soaked ( for better way of explaining).
i suppose if you have been miles away from God its going to take a while to turn around and make the 'walk' back .
small changes on a regular basis rather than a mind blowing 1 off experience
i could be wrong but thats how i am imaging it
thanks Richard

In prayer confess that you are a sinner separated from God and ASK GOD TO SAVE YOU from sin, and ask him to make you into a real born-again Christian, a new creation in Christ, and ask him to fill you to overflowing with his Holy Spirit. Speaking in heavenly tongues is a gift, and so ask him for this gift too. You must be totally and completely sold out to Jesus and surrender your whole being up to him, then God can convert whatever much of yourself that you give up to him.

The Holy Spirit is in you. We are told that when we accept Christ as our Saviour our body becomes the temple of the Holy Spirit, so He is already there.

If you are meaning the gift of glossalalia, or heavenly tongues, it personally took a few years after i asked the Lord, before he actually gave this to me. However some christians receive this gift sooner than that, and some later. Just keep worshipping him and living for him, and he will bless you.

Who knows how long it will take. I don't know anyone that has been baptised by the Holy Ghost. You need to earnestly pray for this, fast, seek God until you get it. Your heart has to be pure, no sin. It takes faith in God. this is a gift from God, recieving the Holy Spirit and being baptised by the Holy Ghost are two different things.

Dawn,Jesus told the Apostles Acts1:4-8 to wait for the promise of the Father, then told them they shall be Baptised in the Holy Ghost. If they had already received it upon coming to Christ or John 20:22 when Jesus breathed on them and said receive ye the Holy Ghost, He wouldn't have told them to not depart, but wait for promise/comforter/HG or that would be Baptised in HG.Read Acts, gives pattern we are to follow. It took 11 years before I was Baptised with HG with tongues.Don't give up.Rest in Jesus.

Dawn:Haveing read these blogs, you are as confused ,as there are so many different explainations. You have freedom of Choice.Jesus accepted Baptism as it was the right thing; at this ceremony you do recieve, Gifts of Holy spirit in the name of the Father &the son & the holy spirit which is Faith Hope & love all your sins up to that time have been wiped clean. You are now a follower of Christ. The rest is up to you as you grow in the love OF Jesus. The more you seek the door of goodness is opened to you.

Dear Dawn,
Think about this,if someone knocks on your door and you open the door and say come in will they stay outside ?It is the same with the Holy Spirit, you do not accept the spirit on your own he calls you and you accept or reject,if you accepted him,you have him in you.Read the instruction manual,it has the answers.God bless you.

Dawn, it's true; you have Christ in you. If you want to speak in tongues, I can teach you what you need to know, but it's a longer teaching than this forum will allow. - jeffr5976

The Holy Spirit is evident with the speaking of tongues, not meaning you will continue to do this if it is not God's will to do so (tongues),but this is when you know you have the "baptism" of the Holy Spirit". You can read Acts 2 or John 15. God knows your desires it will happen in his time... There is a difference...

As soon as you were saved, the Holy Spirit started dwelling within you. Being baptized has nothing to do with receiving Him. If you're thinking He is not in your life because you have not done something "supernatural" like speaking in tongues, you're mistaken. He manifests Himself in different ways to different people. Just pray for Him to reveal Himself to you how He wants to. God bless.

Firstly Baptism does not give you the HOLY SPIRIT.It's salvation,so when you become saved you receive the HOLY SPIRIT and you get baptised as a declaration to ALL.So if you are not saved and only baptised you will forever wait on the indwelling of the HOLY SPIRIT.If you are saved then listen to your "conscience talker" and quench not the HOLY SPIRIT for HE is already in you.OK DEAR.
---Joanna on 8/21/05

The answer is simple, and a myth is debunked by your reality.
The Holy spirit is bestowed upon forgiveness of sins, it's a spiritual act of God as he responds to the truth within your spirit.

The pennitant soul that crys out for the life of Christ in exchange for thier own recieves the forgiveness of sins and the Holy Spirit.
---Pharisee on 8/21/05

Dear friend, You must be saved in order for the Holy Spirit to live in you. Baptizism just isn't going to get it done. If you are depending on baptizism to save you, I pray for God to open your eyes to the truth.
