Why I Should Sell Evil Music

Is heavy metal music evil? I got saved years ago, but I have about five CD's of metal bands. I want to submit every area of my life to the Will of God. Should I sell them?

IF the lyrics are un-God-ly and do not contribute to godly development(edify) of human beings, then DESTROY them. Do not sell or give them away because this will mean influencing others to be un-God-ly.
---Adetunji on 4/24/10

I would. Are they of any interest to you, now? Better yet, why not give them away.
---catherine on 4/21/10

I must say, music affect our inner self, first created by God to worship and praise him.It affect us spiritually, when you listen to a particular music, you attract the spirits that comes from it,some musicians have to commit some evil act for lyrics to come out,i.e drinking human blood before a lyric come from them, this is controlled spiritually. And when you support this, you support the Kingdom of the devil, you find it hard to throw it away coz of the spiritual attachment, burn or break them.I will give you an assignment,in the morning when you wake up,listen to a the rock music only, next day listen to gospel music only and feel the difference.,stregth.I pray that God will bless and anoint you with his wisdom in all that you do.
---daniel on 4/21/10

I'd throw them away-if they're sin for you they're sin for others.
---Betty on 7/27/09

music is simply an expression of the individual partaking in the art of music. the unison of which is always beautiful, regardless of faith. it is like language from the heart, without the confines of grammer and spelling. i say keep it real and enjoy what you do, because God made you afterall. he could have made us all squares, but here we are, options and feelings. you have one life to live, why not try to live it to the fullest potential?
---jake on 7/26/09

If you feel the music is evil, don't sell it and 'promote' it...this is not a good witness. Rather throw it in the trash if it is leading you astray from God.
---Anne on 1/9/09

Don't ! You have to sacrifice them ritualized to mother mary for saving your soul from eternal heavy-hellish-metal-underground-hell ! And everything they get in touch with - light the holy fire of purification !
Believe me, that will set you free -
Praise the Loard and cheers,

---g on 1/9/09

Yes, I would donate them.
---catherine on 1/8/09

If you have to ask a question, then you are uncertain. If it is of God, you will be certain, and there is no need to ask. I hope you can do the math on what to do from there.
---Dis on 1/7/09

If its every area in your life that you want to submit to the Will of God, Then sell them. Are they christian groups? Do their words promote Jesus? God tells you to sing to him and praise him with hymms. Are these groups of Metal Bands helping you do that? This subject goes for every type of music, movie, or communication out there. If Anything does not promote jesus, then its not christian. dont listen to it.
---steve on 9/8/08

Good on you, Alan. Nice to have a little bit of power. I agree with what you are saying, sometimes we like a song, but if we listen carefully, the words have a strong antiChristian message in them. Also, it is good that you get to work volutarily, I miss that about being here in Japan. There are no such opportunities, or not exactly the same opportunities. You have to make your own voluntary work.
---frances008 on 9/7/08

Music of all sorts can reach any number of people. For instance, my brother is in to the heavy metal / hardcore music (i.e. Metallica, KORN, Slipknot, etc.). A few years back, I found a band that fits into this genre - AND THEY ARE CHRISTIANS WITH CHRISTIAN LYRICS. Project 86 (look them up!), Underoath, Norma Jean, P.O.D., Pillar, and many more bands play this type of music and are clearly christians. Their message is able to be carried to different believers.

Now, pertaining to the current issue, if the cds are conflicting with your beliefs then break them up and throw them out, don't sell them.

Is heavy metal music evil?
Only you can answer this!

Rom 14:2 For one believeth that he may eat all things: another, who is weak, eateth herbs.
Rom 14:3 Let not him that eateth despise him that eateth not, and let not him which eateth not judge him that eateth: for God hath received him.

Rom 14:13 Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother's way.
Rom 14:14 I know, and am persuaded by the Lord Jesus, that there is nothing unclean of itself: but to him that esteemeth any thing to be unclean, to him it is unclean.

Understandest thou what thou readest?
Yes, Lord!

Frances ... "Anything that is witchy, or brainwashingly repetitive, rap that is full of the f... word.. (I complain to shelf fillers in supermarkets when I hear it played over the sound system in Japan.)"

I find loud repetitive "wallpaper" music drives me out of shops, but apparently for most people it encourges them to stay and spend!

I work in as a volunteer in a couple of charity shops, and when I am in the shop area rather than behind the scenes, I surrepticiously turn the volume down to keep myself sane!

I am pleased they try to avoid "inappropraite" music, but sometimes the songs are immoral if yuo listen to them. I wish they would let us play classical!
---alan_of_UK on 9/6/08

I would not label all heavy metal as evil, for example I recently heard the Hollies and they have a heavy metal intro in All I need is the Air that I breath'. That is a beautiful song. However, most heavy metal is loud and violent on the eardrums, mind numbing and invasive. So yes, I would say, by and large it is an evil invention and I would throw it away - but I would not condemn all of it without exception. There is some non heavy metal music I would also describe as evil. Anything that is witchy, or brainwashingly repetitive, rap that is full of the f... word.. (I complain to shelf fillers in supermarkets when I hear it played over the sound system in Japan.)

Dear Friend in Christ
I faced this same bridge in my early Christian life, I finally came to the decision to give that part of my life to God also, so a friend of mine who had just been saved at that time and I used all of our rock tapes and records for target practice, then we had a nice fire, it didn't stop there, that left a "void" that had to be replaced, so I learned then about all the different styles of Christian music, to me it's the message thats important. God took that decision and Abundantly helped me to mature as a Christian.

We become what we put into ourselves. Consider this: we have to live in the world around us so we absorb some of the things that are in it. Daily study of the Word helps us to remove the uncleaness of the world from our spirit and our minds. So, if you are still listening, stop because it is not of God. To submit, you must get rid of ALL things that of the world and not of Christ. Besides, there are great Christian metal bands. Just look them up on the internet. God bless!
---ginger on 9/4/08

Does the heavy metal music glorify Jesus Christ? Many many years ago, the Lord woke me up and told me to get rid of all my CD's that were nonChristian. I got a large brown paper bag and filled it up, and dumped them. I went back inside and went to sleep, he woke me up again, and said, "I said all of it." So I took the soft rock CD's which I thought were ok, and were difficult for me to part with, and I threw them out too. I was left with only a couple Christian CD's which were 100% Christian music done only to Jesus. I went back in to go to sleep, and Jesus finally left me go to sleep. And I was greatly blessed that all the music that I had at home had Jesus in it whenever I played it.
---Eloy on 9/4/08

I work around the local music industry. I know many musicians from metal to folk to accustic soul. I also know a great church band that does some rockin' Christian music. I could see them working together to create something that could reach those that enjoy metal/hardcore music AND Love God. Are you giving God some due respect and honor with your music? Does it give your spirit some awesome feelings of energy and get up n' go. (to do the things that God set you out to do?) hang on to them. Does it insite you to do some damage? Burn them. It's that simple.
ps: Roadhous Blues by the Doors will still be the best song in my book. haha

Metal is not about anything bad the only metal you should avoid is black metal because those are satanist so you have nothing to worry about most people just read the lyrics and make of them as "evil" but you need to find the meaning of the song to know what its about like "cowboys from hell" is not about cowboys from hell Pantera are Texans and they are are saying we are cowboys from Texas as they refer to as Hell. You have to find the meaning and not be arrogant like many Christians and sell those cd's because it just stops another kid from stealing it off of limewire. I am a (Christan but I'm not one sided like most)

Read Psalms, music is worship. Read Isaiah 14. Lucifer was the angel of worship. He knows music belongs to God. It is unrealistic to say what you hear doesn't affect you. Faith comes by hearing & hearing by the word of God. The beat of the music is irrelevant. Do the lyrics glorify God? Don't sell them for someone else to struggle with, trash them.
---Melanie on 3/25/08

It's okay to listen to any type of music you want. As long as you're not following what the music says, how are you hurting god? If you listen to Cannibal Corpse, it's a form of entertainment, and shouldn't be taken seriously. I say, you should listen to what you want, as long as it doesn't affect your relationship with your god.
---chris on 3/25/08

Some of the most dangerously erotic and provocative words and music are written in classical style.
Does that mean we should not listen to any classical music?
I hope not!
Why then should those who like metal rock not listen to metal, just because some metal has a bad influence?
(By the way, I love classical & hate metal)

I listen to rock/alternative music and I recently started listning to christian rock/pop/spanish music(love it). I have my CDs of rock music even though I dont listen to them much. I dont plan on burning them cuz they have not influenced me. I listen for the joy of listening and thats it. Sometimes i can hear His message in that type of music cuz He is within me and I listen with His ears. If you think this music tempts you, yes get rid of it, but if it doesnt and its not full of profanity then keep it.
---Ghost on 2/4/08

---william on 2/4/08

Heavy metal, any secular music or books are deemed unholy. The only way to deal with trash is to throw it away or burn it so it will not effect others. Burning evil material has gotten a bad rap, but I am not afraid to stand against what the world calls intolerant like book/music burning. To be intolerant of sin is no vice.
---OneWay on 2/3/08

A whole hearted yes and yes again. This type music is not edifying to you or to God. We have better things to do with our time than to listen to some heavy metal rocker who does not even love or serve your God. We are to refrain from this type music. It is not necessarily a sin to listen to this music but it will bring your spirit down and does nothing to increase your faith.
---Robyn on 2/2/08

You must be accountable for all of your actions in life. If you believe that this music is hypnotizing you in a negative way, you shouldn't listen to it anymore. If you believe that this music holds a value to you, then you should continue to enjoy it. The most satisfying stance is the one you decide for yourself.
---Chris on 2/2/08

What you choose to buy doesn't influence your relationship with God. Do you love your CD's before your love of God? I would guess that your love of Him is strong to have asked such questions about remaining in his graces.
---Chris on 2/2/08

#2 Yet when I became a disciple of Jesus I saw by God's grace that Rock is wicked. Look at the musicians, their lifestyles, read the lyrics, then compare to the Scriptures. This happened for me over time as I grew in grace and knowledge of the Lord.

Initially I started to whittle it down by my weak standards. For example, maybe I dropped Motley Crue pretty quickly but held on to say Van Halen or the Eagles. In time I began to see these were as rotten as the rest.

#3 Dylan - My concluding advice to the person who posted the question, to you and any others is to NOT sell nor give away your old albums/CDs but to BURN them and never look back.

"And many that believed came, and confessed, and shewed their deeds...which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver. So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed." (Acts 19:18-20)
---ShaunT on 1/9/08

#1 Dylan - With all due respect you are deceived. Metal is by the devil pure and simple. I was raised on it, played drums for a while, jammed with my friends and drank down Rock and heavy metal like it was the elixir to eternal life. And for me it was. Bands like Whitesnake, Judas Priest, Metallica, Motley Crue, G & R, Black Sabbath/Ozzy and countless others I pumped into my mind all the day and night. I lived for rock and worshiped its stars.
---ShaunT on 1/9/08

I think that's totally false. Metal isn't evil, I'm a total metalhead. Don't dismiss all metal because you heard one group of people burned down a church. It's just music. As for "just listen to a Christian band" replies, what if you don't like those bands? Seriously, and the bible doesn't make reference to metal because maybe metal wasn't invented when the bible was written?
---Dylan on 1/9/08

I wouldnt say one way or the other. But the question might be, what is evil music. Lets take the beatles, i want to hold your hand,ect...the words i heard and liked were pure and simple, then some hear things in them and now it is evil music. If the Holy Spirit convicts you that it is evil get rid of it, sell it ? i dont know

God is what we make of him. How could he be any more or any less? In that regard, is God more important than the music to you? If the answer is yes, then you must decide, will the music hurt your love of God, and what you have made of him in your heart? If that answer is yes as well, then indeed, you must get rid of it.
Meditate on it. The proper answer will be given unto you exactly what you must do. Even so, remember, your actions are YOUR own. NOT Gods, OR any devils. Be responsible.

Zach that worries me. Do you think it is ok to play the song "Shout to the Devil" or "Cowboys from Hell"? The Holy Spirit would lead you to remove any song from your life with lyrics that glorify sin or the Devil.

Prayerfully ask God what songs should be removed from your life. Normally the best way is to examine the lyrics and see if it glorifies sin or the Devil. Any songs you have that are like this you throw away. Don't sell them. As a Christian we can still enjoy rock and even hard-rock as long as the lyrics don't glorify evil. If you have heavy metal songs that don't glorify evil well then I suggest asking God if you can keep them or not and let Him guide you toward an answer.
---Matthew on 4/25/07

No you should not sell them. I am a fan of heavy metal, and I mean truly heavy stuff. Im also a metal musician myself. Music is entertainment, and my musical taste has not compromised my devoution to God.

If you believe that something is evil and you sell it to someone who may be unaware that it is evil, guess who the greater sinner is?

I had some books in my possession that proved to be far more explicit than I had thought them to be when I picked them up. I love books and hate to destroy them, but these particular books left me no choice. They are trashed and will not pollute any more minds.

cody: "...dont blame the music..."

On the contrary, music is the cause of doing thing wrong. Don't sell it for what you are doing is allowing another person to hear the Santanic verses, making that person fall. Destroy the idols that turn a person away from God. Seek only those things that are Godly and today's music, including many of the Christians music, does not glorify God, but the self.

In fact, all forms of entertainment today, Christians and pagan, takes us away from God - the music, the TV, the radio, the ipods, the computer. All have detered us from forming a real relationship with God. Look around you. Most people fill every single minute of every single day plugged into something. We never have time anymore to be alone with God, to hear the whisper of God, to build a relationship with God. We can't even form a real relationship with other people let alone a relationship with God.

Its not the music thats evil, it's when you think it's making you do things but your actually using it as a convienient excuss to explain why your doing bad things thats evil. just like foods not evil but using it in excess (glutony) is a sin. musics not sinful just your actions and how you chose to let it affect you. dont blame the music it's one of the most pure things man can create.

john, i know what you mean. i've heard some heretical songs on a christian station, so i emailed them with admonishment, but they still play them. We're in the last days, and i believe that many that are not in the Spirit will be led away (and brainwashed) by false doctrines which may sound good and sound smooth, but they are nevertheless false. The most popular delusion today is what i call the "love gospel".

You don't have to be a Rocket Scientist to know by Blade's response that this is not Christian heavy metal. You also have to be careful with some so called christian music. A christian radio station in my area (Charlotte) had a friday night segment called "Christian Edge". The music sounded like devil music with some pretty sick stuff and they called it christian music. Other than the friday night part it was a good station. The whole christian radio station got tossed off the air for good!

The Holy Spirit is probably bringing this up and convicting you, else you would have no question about it. Does it render glory to Jesus Christ and edify your christian spirit and walk with the Lord? No? Does it feed your flesh instead of your spirit? Yes? Then trash it. Don't sell it, and don't give it away to impede others away from Christ. Just trash it, and get yourself some good Christian music to feed on instead.
---Eloy on 8/23/05

I don't understand why some think that if the music is not Christian music its evil. I love listening to U2, they are very spiratual but not all their songs are gospel, some are of love-peace, and I dont think they or other kind bands offend God. He wants us to be happy and rejoice in him but he doesnt mind if we listen to music about other things, (thats like saying we cant watch any show on TV unless its about Christianity too) I sometimes find music can lead me spiritualy without being a christian song

Whatever comes into you will come out so don't listen to anything that doesn't lift up the name of Jesus. And about selling them, let me ask you this question if you have some poison that you knew could kill someone, would you sell it to them? I pray you answer would be no. The thing is any music whether it is country, rap, heavy metal, or whatever that doesn't uplift the name of Jesus is a poison to the human soul and we don't want anyone to get a hold of that poison.

Your individual CDs may or may not honor God, but I don't think all heavy metal music is evil. There are heavy metal Christian bands out there I recently heard two local ones (Six Color Press and Solemn Vow) and they were excellent. The concert was at a church. Thousand Foot Krutch is more well-known Christian hard rock band. You don't have to give up the heavy metal sound to be a Christian just listen to Christian bands.

Most people, when they are saved, find it is helpful (to themselves) to get rid of anything that could hinder their lives, whether that be music, certain clothes, makeup, pictures of pop stars that you idolised etc. If you pass them on either for free or for payment they might have the same harmful effect on others that they had on you. Once you've destroyed them you are totally free of them and so is everyone else.
