//A hint to the wise is sufficient. // ---mima on 1/4/11

yes, when you realize that you are in the presence of Deity, draw back and hit the ground.
---aka on 1/4/11

King James version,
John 18:6.

"As soon then as he had said unto them, I am he, they went backward, and fell to the ground."

A hint to the wise is sufficient.

Michelle, what you describe in your post is a demon posessed man. Nothing to do with "slain in the spirit". I don't believe you can take one verse out of the whole bible and build a denomination.

Barry: "You will not find this specific termonolgy in the Bible...just like you won't find the words "christian"

Act 26:28 Then Agrippa said unto Paul, Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian.

1Pe 4:16 Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God on this behalf.
---jerry6593 on 1/4/11

You will not find this specific termonolgy in the Bible...just like you won't find the words "christian" or "rapture"! These words or phrases were created to more easily context the experience defined, so that a full explaination does not need to be given when referenced. Believe or don't but the truth remains. Are their people out there who fake things certainly. Just because there is a fake doesn't mean the real thing doesn't exist but quite the contrary. If anyone lacks wisdom seek God who will give it. Seek Him while he may be found!Devote your time to prayer, meditation of the Word and walking in obedience to what God has revealed and He will guide you in all TRUTH.

Jesus is the Word of God.

Chapter 5
2 And when he was come out of the ship, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit,
3 Who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him, no, not with chains:
4 Because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been plucked asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: neither could any man tame him.
---Michelle on 6/7/07

5 And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones.
6 But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him,
7 And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not.
8 For he said unto him, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit.

Frederick- I am not enamored with humanistic views, however I do not dismiss, unlike some- objective scientific evidence. Its not my world that objectively asserts what pentacostals experience bio-chemical in design, but science. My point still solidly still stands from 6/4
---MikeM on 6/6/07

you know what melonie...i really dont know what your going for
---mark_B. on 6/5/07

Your point still standing might mean something in MikeM.'s world. But here, not so much.
Heaven and earth shall pass, but only God's Word still stands. Do you think we're all so enamored with humanistic views, that we actually believe they can stand up to the Word of God?
---Frederick on 6/5/07

My post from 6/4 still stands, thus does my point of 6/4.

I can tell you how to possibly, experience it. Clear your mind of everything worldly and a hindrance to you(distractions). Concentrate fully on Jesus. Begin to pray and meditate, repeat scriptures and really get into Jesus. Love on Him, really get into deep praise and worship, prayer. Keep at this for a while and you will enter a higher spiritual realm. If you let go, your body will collapse or fall on the floor. This is what is called being "Slain in the Spirit". You totally give in to Jesus.
---Robyn on 6/5/07

markB., your emphasis on the fruit part is really interesting. A German scientist is working on an "anti-stupidity pill. " So far, the pill has only been tested on fruitflies, but the results were encouraging, Germany's Bild newspaper reported Saturday. Testing a pill aimed at improving short-term memory and attentiveness by preventing hyperactivity in certain brain cells.
---Melonie on 6/5/07

Yea christina...God is glorfied and Jesus is revealed...that is why i put a big emphasis on the fruit part...fruit as in people being saved, people being changed, etc...
---mark_B. on 6/5/07

Mark B, I wish to ask a question about your question. in this amazing experience, is God glorified? does it point to/reveal Jesus Christ?

Mark B,sorry, I posted a response to your most recent post, not having read what was written previously...Crystals answer was good
---christina on 6/4/07

This 'slain in the spirit' is endorphines being relaesed into the bloodstream, it is completly bio-chemical in nature, and it can be measured. It is found all over the world,in most cultures, only the termenology for the 'experience' is different. It is 'simplistic' to say, if its the other people its the devil, but of God if its us. Its reality to acknowledge the source is within the body.
---MikeM on 6/4/07

Yes Mark anything is possible He is God he can do anything.

Carl i can't give you scripture for it but the night i got the Holy Ghost i was slain in the spirit i was total under the power of God.

My goodness...i feel a little threatened eh...just trying to ask a question...
If God comes in a way where people would act or a physical manifestation of some kind that is not in the neither contradictory or proven by scripture...and the fruit of it is amazing...Ok this means that since the fruit of it is amazing then it is from God...but something happend thats taht possible???
Gees dont kill me just asking an innocent question...
---mark_B. on 6/3/07

I think you mis understand me Cyrstal i tried to ask the question in a different sense...remember Fruits are awesome thats the main aspect awesome fruit...
You can tell if someone was truely touched by God...b/c they will change...
---mark_B. on 6/3/07

Tommy. those verses fail to tell us that those are the only fruits. Excitement and joy unspeakable can manifest in many ways. Unless you can show Scripture that disqualifies behavior other than the verses you quoted, I cannot accept those as proof that there can be no other fruits or manifestations.

markB., I have no idea what you're talking about, but that sounds absolutely bizarre.
Anytime I've heard of levitation, it has to do with witchcraft. So I would have to say that was witchcraft in the church. It would serve no purpose, and would not be a legitimate sign. A false sign. If someone started to float off the ground, like Criss Angel, MindFreak, I would say that was demonic. What are you talking about?
---Crystal on 6/3/07

markB., "if God decides He wants to move in a new way that is not biblical...."
Well, then it wouldn't be biblical, would it?
And it wouldn't be God.
If your mind can cook it up, that's witchcraft. God does more than we can ever think or imagine. His thoughts are above our thoughts. If CrissAngel isn't bringing people to Christ by levitating, how would someone in the Church point to Christ by levitating. That's nutty.
---Crystal on 6/3/07

you have not been able to find anything in the scripures about being slain in the spirit because there is no such thing talked about in the bible. some people make scripures to read what they want them to say, but the bible is always very plain and very clear on what it says
---carl on 6/3/07

To Mr. Tommy>>>I moan, I laugh, I cry, I Dance,so did David. God never approves of dancing in your undies unless in privacy of your home. Divine inspiration are not violent and ungovernable, is what scripture is referring to. We have far too many people who simply does not know how to enjoy God. When God's spirit comes upon you you will become a different person. I don't understand all the pretenders who's mocking God, it is not the Person of the Holy Spirit. They are only play acting.
---catherine on 6/3/07

Wait...i have a question...Well we all know that it has nothing to do w/ the physical manifestation that happens, its all about what God does to that person, whether He speaks to them, changes them, gives that person rest whatever etc...Hence the fruit my question is like later on if God decides he wants to move in a new way that is not biblical is that possible???
---mark_B. on 6/2/07

But if the fruit of what may happen is like super explosive and God does something in the natural that is sooooo weird...For example if someone starts to levitate right but God does something huge in that person life and a lot of people are saved is that going to be possible...would God do that...and how many people are going to regect it???
---mark_B. on 6/2/07

I'll be the bad guy. I've seen moaning, barking, falling, laughing, drunkeness, clucking, shaking, dancing in undies, all blamed on the Spirit. 1 Cor. 14 says the Spirit is under our control. Or else visitors to the church might think we are out of our minds. There is NO proof of a believer being slain in the spirit in the bible. There is a list of genuine manifestations in the bible 1Cor. 12:7. Wisdom,knowledge,faith,healing,mir.powers,discernment,tongues,int. of tongues, prophecy. AllU Need 1Cor. 12&14

" Slain in the Spirit" story; once while standing in a paryer line when the man praying got to me he began to weep. At this time I started to pray for him, when I touched him with my hand he flew backwards over seven feet into the band instruments. he had no catcher and really hit hard and I was very concerned he was hurt, but after a little while he got up and was OK.After this happened I took his place and went down the prayer line myself.---mima 11/4/2005

1st- I hate that term. Slain makes it sound evil. But what you are referring to is simply when a person is so competely overwhelmed by God's presence that he/she can no longer stand under it. This is mild compared to what is in Scripture. In the O.T. an impure priest who dared to enter the holy of holies would die- the same would happen if someone touched the ark of the covenant. God's Spirit is powerful- our simple minds cannot comprehend it.Yes there are many frauds out there. But it is real.

David: You have a lot of questions. Don't we all? :)

The answers to our questions can be found in the Bible. When we rationalize outside the boundaries of the Bible, we risk being corrupted by unholy (demonic) spirits who work contrary to God, The Holy Spirit.

Pride can make us think we're wise enough to correctly discern circumstances apart from God's word? That's like playing with fire. Despite what some say, there are no "new revelations" apart from what's written in the Bible.
---Leon on 10/7/05

There is no Scripture for my pastoring a church or this forum either.. Is it possible, that God might do something in these modern times or express himself in a way that was not written or that he has not done before? Does anyone know 'everything' about God?? Could it be that God has exposed something new about himself that some of you have not experienced yet? I wouldn't dare call the Holy Spirit a devil nor his workings evil.. Once you become 'Spirit filled' you will understand more about Him.
---david on 9/23/05

In Acts 9, Paul, after falling to the ground, actively talked to Jesus. This isn't the same as when people are so-called slain in the spirit. They lay on the ground, like they're dead, & talk to no one.

The pseudo-Christian practice of being slain in the spirit is diametrically opposed to sound Bible teaching. Howbeit God, by His Son Jesus, would make it possible (John 3:16) for the spiritually dead (SLAIN) world to be revived/regenerated & then slay again that which He has quickened? WHAT?!

I was "working" the altar at a service once, and caught a falling young man much lighter than myself.

Suddenly he became immoveable BIG TIME! I fell against a wall trying to hold him, the next thing I knew, I was openning eyes on the same wall, to an empty church.

Everyone had long left for the dining area and fellowship [I was well rested!].

The scriptures already given, prove that the "power" is in the anointing!

Which way did they fall? that is the big question. I think you will find sinners falling backwards and saints falling on their face or forward.

Moderator - I have seen both ways for both sinners and saints in practice, therefore I wouldn't make any doctrines out of that. I have seen demonic falling, real falling, but by far the largest percentage which is fake falling called the courtesy fall. Few people fit into the first 2 categories, however they do occur.
---Rev_Herb on 9/10/05

Let's keep it in context folks. This is not something that was happening in NT churches with any regularity whatsoever and we all know it. It has been said that "A text without a context is a pretext." I agree. Watch these events closely and there is not a lot of mystery to it. If you don't understand, read a book on hypnotism. Pay attention to the chapters on those who are most susceptible to it and/or how to induce it. Notice the role expectation plays.
---Darrin on 9/10/05

Old term "falling out under the Spirit/power" not slain, modern term. In Bible no one stands under the power, in the presence of God unless God empowers them to do so.When the God's power moves through a mortal we become moved by that power, and this puny Temple winds up on the floor.Simple, not evil, mystical, just plain ole flesh that's too weak to stand under the mighty anointing of God.HG moves through like electical currents, causes tingling on the skin and sometimes trembling in the body.

I don't remember seeing the actual words "slain in the Spirit" in the Bible but some verses worth exploring might be:
Genesis 17:3
Ezekiel 1:28, 3:23, 43:3, 44:4
Daniel 10:8,9
John 18:6
Acts 9:4
Acts 26:14
Revelation 1:17

My study Bible says, "experiencing divine encounters may have physiological consequences. Pursue them neither frivolously nor lightly."
---DoryLory on 9/10/05

Tommy, sounds like you found scripture to support it pretty well. Some people will say only sinners fell when confronted by the power of God. I was going to use the same scripture in Revelation as you did, where John fell as tho dead in the presence of the Alpha & Omega. It's happened to me...far from being evil, the Holy Spirit was so strong, and God's love filled the little area where I was. I'll never forget it.
---Ann5758 on 9/9/05

This is a false teaching, it is not in the scriptures. It is used by many false prophets you see on Hellivision. People fall out under the same spirit under witchcraft and other religions. You will find this happining by many tongue speaking religions. So be ware of this false teaching.
---Rev_Herb on 9/9/05

You won't find any scripture to support this "doctrine." The only places that speak of anyone "falling out" are when Jesus answered the guards who came with Judas saying that it was He whom they were seeking. You can find in Isaiah Ch.6 that Isaiah fell as a dead man at the feet of God when in His vision He beheld God's glory, and John in Revelation when he beheld God's glory in his vision.
