Why Disagreements On The Bible

This may be a simple question, but I am curious none the less. There is only one HOly Bible, yet so many disagree on what this Book says, as in this tithing debate. Why is it that so many people can read the same Bible yet come up with different rules. Tithing, NO Instruments in church, Rapture.

Moderator - Because people are at different levels of learning. Why so many different diet books, why so many different colleges, etc.

I HAVE heard of people using the argument "If the KJV was good enough for Jesus, it's good enough for me".

Many people have such a high opinion of the KJV they believe it is the only inspired translation, and all others are abominations (of course, what does that say about non-English versions?). Some even believe the KJV was the "original" and the Holy Spirit translated it into Hebrew and Greek so prophets and apostles could write it down. Sheesh.

Rev.Herb. Yes, there is only one true word of God. But it's not any translation. The KJV 1611 is only a translation of the word and the very people that did the translation admitted they were not perfect but did the best they could. Accepting any version as the only true word would mean there was no true word until that version came along. we are not prepared to believe that the entire world was void of the word of God before 1611.

What a great question! And I find lots of good answers here too. Don't you find it odd that even tho Jesus prayed for unity (John 17), that after Pentecost great confusion started? Confusion is the 'SOP' for Satan. What I have found that IF people would take only the words that Jesus taught thu the eyewitnesses (John 14:26) there should be unity. No, Paul and Luke were not eyewitnesses.

**, well, if the King James version was good enough for the apostle Paul to use, it's good enough for me.**

Who said this???????????

Now that's funny!

why we all read the bible and interpret it differently. Thought about this alot. I believe that we all interpret the bible thru the grid of our life experiences, and since everyones is different, no wonder we disagree, or interpret differently. Thats one reason I'm very careful what ministers I listen too, my favorite is Charles Stanley, because for 35 years he has preached at the same mega church and I can see the results of his TV/Radio/church sermons, which are totally Bible based in a simple form.

Most times the KJV is mentioned, the devil runs amock....or should I say it spells the KJV is the true bible...otherwise

"Don't confuse me with facts, my mind is made up!" This is one of the reasons why there is so much disagreement on what the Bible states. A person has an agenda to promote, than they find a Scripture that they think will support their views - although it's usually taken out of context. Add to that, there is a tendency to mix cultural "laws" with Scriptural teaching. Of course, there are different levels of spiritual maturity. On I could go, but there is an 85 word limit here.

, we all must learn to love each other and be tolerant, not of sin, but tolerant of personality differences. years from now, nobody will remember arguments, but they will remember if they were loved.

Dear People, if I refuse to condone a 45 year old man living with and committing adultery against his wife with your 16 year old daughter does that make me intolerant?
This is in no way a reference to any NIV or such like translation. It is a question on intolerance.
Is intolerance wrong?
I shall post the same (like) question to get answers from the "field" also.
---Elder on 9/27/05

Steve, you said, (your words) ", i will continue to use many translations to get the full meaning of verses, but i won't use the KJV, because its advocates are too intolerant."
---steve on 9/15/05
Does that not make YOU Intolerant?
Since you like the Modern Versions, how about "The New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures" backed up by the books "Studies in Scriptures."
These were completed in 1904, much later than that old 1611 KJV.
---Elder on 9/27/05

Bob ... the KJV survived the Dark Ages? It was not even created until after the dark Ages!!

Herb ... Steve did not say the authors of the KJV are intolerant, but it's advocates. And so they are ... rightly they are intolerant of sin, but wrongly they are intoleraant of those who dind value in other translations.
---alan8869_of_UK on 9/27/05

Pame- Because believing in only the bible will do that to you. If the bible is all we have to go by why so many disagreements.Mod, you response about why so many different diets, is because they all say their diets is the better one. 1 Tim 3:15 " Which is the CHURCH of the living GOD.the PILLAR and FOUNDATION of the TRUTH! He left us a CHURCH to guide us..

Because some have the mind of Christ and follow him, and many have their own minds and follow them.

Better to "obey [The Words Of] God, than [the doctrines (revelations, interpretations, etc of unbelieving)] men". Acts 5:29.

Accuracy is the keyword, along with "time tested"!

Must be a reason the mistakenly labelled [Protestant] KJV Bible, survived The Dark Ages, prospered [& aided knowledge] through The Renaissance Era, just keeps going, & going, & going without batteries!
---bob6749_[Elishama] on 9/17/05

Steve, you can keep your position on the KJV if you want. But it is obvious you don't understand about the Grace of God, or about the Mystery that God kept hid until he revealed it to Paul. You call the authors of the KJV, as intolerant. That is because God is intolerant to sin of any kind. Even though, he still instituted his Grace for us sinful men and women.

I believe it is because some ask God to help them understand and some don't. The ones who don't ask for under-standing, think them self wise and go by their own understanding.
---a_friend on 9/16/05

Steve, do you think God will be more tolerant? God says thou shalt not committe adultry so I will committe adultry because God is to intolerant? Does that mean I can't preach against homosexually because I will be to intolerant. I tell you not to jump off of a bridge because of the rocks below, you going to jump? If there is only one true Word of God, are you not going to use it because we stand up for what we believe?
---Rev_Herb on 9/15/05

I think, allot of our values are come from our up bringing. That goes for what is and is not important to us too. Each denomination seems to emphasize certain topics. Sometimes things can be taken out of context. Our opinions are as individual as we are. There are basic truths: Jesus is God's Son.
---Ulrika on 9/15/05

, we have yet to find a Bible that doesn't claim to be "original greek", but word-for-word doesn't help, because grammar and word meaning changed so much over the years.
