Good People Go To Heaven Or Hell

I recently attended a memorial service of a young pilot who died in an air crash. Speakers said excellent attributes about him, e.g he was kind, gentle, well mannered and generous. He touched the lives of many people. Where do people like him go to when they die? Heaven or hell?

#1 Gordon, who are the ones being tormented in the presence of God and His holy angels in Rev 14:9-11? That scripture references a certain group of people. Unless you are saying that all sinners through out all of hummanities history have taken the mark of the beast on their head and their hand.
---Ryan_Z on 1/7/08

#2 Gordon, Your absolutely correct, if God tortures humans forever then He would be a sadist, I see nothing in the bible that leads me to believe God has a sadistic nature. It is not a matter of "too cruel" it is a matter of being unjust and unloving, and God says He is Just and Loving. A temporal existence of sin justifies an eternity of torture?
---Ryan_Z on 1/7/08

Gordon, you didn't answer the question. Every human child is equal to the son of a Jewish king? You base your doctrine that all children go to heaven on David stating he would join his son in the grave? Once again, I love talking to you, you have textbook pop-evangelical doctrine. Unfortuantely many pop-evangelical doctrines are like Swiss cheese, full of holes.
---Ryan_Z on 1/7/08

Gordon, where does the bible say that the sinenrs are the fuel for the fire? My friend, God is the fire, that is why the fre is eternal.
---Ryan_Z on 1/7/08

There will be a lot of quote, quote, good people in Hell. God however, is a heart God. He can see things we can not see. Only the Blood my friend will get you to heaven. The Bible teaches the heart of man is despately wicked. Is why Jesus came.
---catherine on 1/7/08

Ryan Z, "...the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever..." is a type of "figure of speech". It is stated with the understanding that people know instinctively that IF THERE IS SMOKE, THEN THERE IS FIRE. When the fire goes out, the smoke will also go away. So, if the smoke is rising continually, that means the fire is burning continually. If the smoke of their fiery torment is ascending up forever and ever, that is because the fire is burning forever and ever.
---Gordon on 1/6/08

Ryan Z, King David was included in the Verse of Romans 3:23 "For ALL have sinned, and come short of the Glory of GOD," And even IF David is not in Heaven now, where do you think he'll be going ultimately? And that will be the same place as his baby will be. It's just as cruel to send a baby to Hell (because if it didn't go to Heaven, as you say, then there's only one alternative, that is Hell) as to send common Sinners to an Ever-Burning Hell, which you deny.
---Gordon on 1/6/08

Ryan Z, You have insinuated before that GOD would be SADISTIC to send people into an Ever-Burning, Tormenting Hell. I made a print-out of our dialogue that we'd had on this subject awhile back, would you like a copy of it faxed to you to refresh your memory of exactly what you said?
---Gordon on 1/6/08

Notlaw99, And it becomes YOUR word against those who have died and gone to either Heaven or Hell, or BOTH. Are you so sure that NOTHING HAPPENS after one dies? Can you say that YOU'VE died and experienced this NOTHINGNESS? For GOD to allow someone to die, go to Heaven or Hell and then bring them back again to tell others about it is not against GOD's Will. What is your Biblical support that "NOTHING HAPPENS" after Death?
---Gordon on 1/6/08

Ryan Z, Rev. 14:9-11 says "...If any MAN worship the Beast and his image, and receive his Mark in his forehead, or in his hand. The same shall drink of the Wine of the Wrath of GOD, which is poured out without mixture into the Cup of His Indignation, and he shall be TORMENTED ( T O R M E N T E D, Ryan!) with FIRE and BRIMSTONE in the presence of the holy angels, and in the Presence of the Lamb: And the smoke of their Torment ascendeth up FOR EVER AND EVER: and they have NO REST day nor night..."
---Gordon on 1/6/08

WE cannot know someones heart, that, God reserves for him self, as we just are not qualified to do this. We do know that God says in his word, that we must be born again, and become as a little child, or we will not enter the Kingdom of God. So, we need to make our own preparations, so that we will be ready when our time is up, and leave everyone else to God, as he is rightous and just.
---Gayla on 1/4/08

It is written that, even a child is known
by what they say and do.What is right and wrong in what they say and do falls on the parents.
---Jack_8773 on 1/4/08

#2 Gordon, Second your assumption that David said hewould see his son in heaven does not line up with scripture, please reference I Kings 2:10 and Acts 2:34. Lastly, even if David was saying his son went to heaven (which he certainly was not eluding to) you are comparing all human children to the child of a Jewish king?
---Ryan_Z on 1/4/08

Sue, Romans 3:23 all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Babies are human and inherit all of humanities condition. I have never seen anything so centered in the flesh as a human child. They are selfish, self-serving, and full of fleshly behaviour. The last thing any human baby is would be innocent or pure, reference Psalms 51:5 for scriptural proof of that.
---Ryan_Z on 1/4/08

#1 Gordon, I do love talking to you my friend. You have a vivid imagination and your doctrines are right out of American pop-evangelicalism. First of all I never said that eternal torture of humanity was "too cruel" I simply have stated that it is not a doctrine that can be supported through scripture.

Ryan Z, You don't believe in Eternal Hell Fire of Damnation because that is "too cruel" for a God of Love. Yet you INSIST that little babies will perish in Hell because of Adam. Do you believe that king David was a true man of GOD? Do you not remember that when his first son with Bathsheba died, that he stated that the baby will not return to him, but that he (David) will someday GO TO HIM (in Heaven)! You see, when you TWIST the Word of GOD around, your thinking becomes twisted up also.
---Gordon on 1/4/08

People don't go any where when they die. They are simply dead until the general resurrection then their is judgement.

A lot of people have been told false information this subject and that is regrettable.

People have to understand the difference between what they want scripture to say and what scripture actually says.
---notlaw99 on 1/4/08

Ryan could you please explain to me HOW a baby would be judged, I have not yet seen your answer to this so excuse me if you already have (i dont read every single word here) I mean, are they judged on how many poopy diapers they make? or how loud they cry? please help me with this baby judging thing.

Jack 877, babies are not judged? Are you suggesting that this segment of humanity has somehow escaped the judgements placed on all of humanity through Adam's disobedience? By what sripture/scriptures do you make this claim?
---Ryan_Z on 1/3/08

Neither one, yet.We all have to await
for judgement Day before we can enter
heaven.Babbies don't have to be judged
so they are already there. The spiritual body
is not dead, the physical body is dead.
All life is supplyed by the spirit in which we live. The 4th heaven,is where we go
until the 2nd coming of Christ.

people on this blog say when you die you that you are dead and that is that! But,that is not what happened to Elijah and Moses in the transfiguration. They were with Jesus and the disciples saw them.
Also the good thief dying with Jesus on the cross. Jesus told him: today you will be with me in paradise. Plus Jesus said, whoever eats this bread will never die! He also raised the dead in front of everyone, proving that He can do this in an instant! You either will end up in Hell or journey to Heaven!
---Lisa on 8/1/07

If he was a born again child of God, then he is in Heaven. If he was not, then I would reccomend reading John 14:6, Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. Only God knew his heart.
---Cynthia on 7/31/07

Depends on the choice he made when he was alive. We can be good, kind, generous and all of those really good things but if we refuse Jesus as our Lord and Savior. We will be lost and end up in hell. Hell is real my friend. We make the choice where we end up. We either follow Christ and give Him our heart or follow the enemy and give our heart to him. God sends no one to hell.
---Robyn on 7/31/07

Is it Christ or goodness that gets you to heaven is the question asked. Answer is both are required. Christ has paid the penalty of our sins making it possible to get to heaven but if we think we can do what we like and live with God we're mistaken. Christ said "follow me" and "keep my commandments" something he'd not bother with if it didn't matter. If he was a good person then he'll have the opportunity to learn about and accept Christ if he didn't have the opportunity in this life

My friend, to hell they go if they have not been bought by the Blood of Christ. When my mom died, at her funeral, I declared It was as if these people were talking about someone I didn't know. Also, I was lost at the time. It was so amazing to me and I did not like it at all. Anyways, the Blood of Christ gets you to heaven not goodness.
---catherine on 7/31/07

Heaven is defined as a place with God. The place where God dwells.
Hell is defined as a place without God.
If you don not belive that Jesus (God in the flesh) died for your sins, died so that your sins may be forgiven then you will remain a sinner. Everybody is a sinner.
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God Romans 3:23.
Sin separates you from God so you need the blood of Christ to be near God (to go to Heaven and be with Him).To be continued...
---Claire on 7/31/07

...Continued.
If then Hell is a place without God, where people who do not belive in his son will go, then quite frankly, what is the problem. If you dont belive in someone then what does it matter to you that you dont spend eternity with them. Heaven is for Christians not Good people. You could even say that hell would be no different to Earth. The Earth is full of sin and God does not dwell here. If you dont belive in Jesus, can you really complain about living the way you already are for eternity?
---Claire on 7/31/07

3 kinds of people go to heaven: the righteous by nature who never heard the gospel; the born-again Christian; and the backslider who repented or returned to the Lord. There are many "nice" people who have gone to hell because they rejected the gospel of Jesus Christ, and these "kind and polite" people are damned to hell for rejecting God's Salvation for them. So because a person was kindly on earth does not mean they are automatically given acceptance by God, nor acceptable to Holy God

well, it depends. did he beleive in heaven and hell? not everyone thinks its that cut and dry. i personally dont beleive in either. i think that "heaven" or "hell" are what you make them. and maybe this guy feels the same way. so maybe if he lived is life the way he wanted and was a good person to the best of his ability then what happend to him after he died is what he wanted or always thought would happen.
---jason on 4/17/07

Everyone will be judged at the last day. The just, unjust, wicked and the righteous. Many believe they are "Saved". they go to church on sunday, but live in the world the rest of the week or defile their bodies through drugs, alcohol, etc. They lie, cheat, abuse others, yet profess they will return to God. Actions speak volumes. No wonder Jesus said on that day many will say Lord, Lord and then be cast out. They draw near to God with their lips, but their hearts are far from Him.

Where do babies go when they die? What about the good people? These questions have been asked over and over. In a nutshell: Blessed and holy are the Christians who are raised in the first resurrection (after the so-called tribulation period) for they shall never see death. The rest of the dead (the unbelievers, the wicked, the weak Christians) lived not again until the thousand years are finished and will be judged by God.
---Steveng on 4/12/07

ALL people (like him or not) determine their own eternal address based on whether they accept or reject Christ. Acceptance of the Lord and His blood atonement leads to Heaven, and rejection of the same leads to Hell. In the end, the choice is really our own.

Everyone who tries to get to Heaven based on his/her own merits is wasting his/her time. Better to repent and lean on Jesus, our Advocate and Savior. He is the WAY, the TRUTH, and the LIFE and no one enters in by any other means!
---Crystal on 4/12/07

2-Your life is an example of Jesus Christ. You do not swear, lie, cheat, hurt or use others for your own selfishness. you forgive others, live each day in sobriety and meekness. There are many people, where you know instantly who they follow. they radiate an aura of the Savior. People feel comfortable around them. they are those who will rest from their labors after death in paradise. For those who truly live in the image of Jesus Christ, they don't fear the resurrection and judgment of God.

Good people do not go to heaven. Only those who are covered with the blood of Christ do.
---John on 4/12/07

Many people profess they are "born again" yet their actions, thoughts, words, etc tell everyone around them they are not. To be "born again" you change your life from evil to good. You comfort the sick and those in need, either physically or spiritually. Your words help others overcome problems. You recognize when you sin and repent of it instantly and never do it again.
---ashley on 4/12/07

Sibua
It is simply not up to us to make any sort of judgement about any human being. Full stop. We must just get on with our own lives, Love God, Fear God, and Love our neighbour. And do our best to spread the word of God. That is all we mortals can and should do.
---Ed on 4/12/07

(John 3:6),

Christian's that don't have the true Jesus Blood conversion are not born-again. The true Church came from the [side] of Christ, some deny this, are not born of the Spirit, the Water & the Blood(1 John 5:8),therefore they don't come from Christ,no change has taken place, all counterfeits. God's true people KNOW in whom they believe. "Rock of Ages, cleft for me, Let me hide myself in Thee; Let the water and the blood, From Thy wounded side which flowed...".

Sadly, there will be "good" people in hell. ANYONE - good or bad who has not repented of their sins and accepted Jesus and their Lord and Savior will not have their names in the book of life and will go to hell.
---Terry on 8/10/06

2. You see, they do it for pride. They get satisfaction from it. They don't do it for Christ. They continue to add to their long account of sins. When a person is saved, all the glory goes to God, for we are told that everything good comes from above. Since we don't know their hearts when dead, we cannot judge them. God only knows their whole life. Maybe one day, at one small place in time, they did give their lives to Christ.
---Lupe2618 on 9/26/05

Sibua, like your experience I had the same at a funeral. I heard the kind words and I understand why they say them. They love the person and will not say something bad about him even if he was bad. But, after hearing what they said, I wondered if he ever had a relationship with Christ. I knew him because he was family, but not to close to him. He was kind and gentle but been kind and gentle does not save us. When a person is lost and they are good, they add to their account of sins.

1) Maybe a good reference is what John The Baptist told the Roman soldiers after they asked him [John], what must they do when he was preaching repentence.

2) Not to forget Jesus' response to the Centurion who wanted his servant healed.

3) Keep in mind, both were sent to "the lost sheep of Israel" at this time.

Tina, The verse was against the Jews living in sin, but thought they were better than the Gentiles. It starts, "The fool says in his heart that there is no God...", this is whom it is referring too. The Jew knowing better, still turned from God to sin just like the Gentiles; they wrongly maintained license to sin by saying they were God's chosen and always blessed. But when God looked down on man hoping to find just one obedient Jew, he found this: Psalm 14:1-3; Psalm 53:1-3; Romans 3:1,9-18.
---Eloy on 9/26/05

Bruce, i wish people would apply verses rightly. The verse you cited is speaking of the backsliden Jews, and not the truly righteous. "O YHWH, why have you made us to err from your ways, hardened our heart from your respect?..."Isaiah 63:17. God gave his commandments to his people, but they joined with the heathens and turned their back on God, therefore Jerusalem had become desolate. Thus Isaiah is speaking of the Jewish backsliders, and not those who have been truly righteous.
---Eloy on 9/26/05

In addition to Bruce's and other's excellent comments. Romans 3:10-12 as it is written: "None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God. All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one." John 14:6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. (Including babies)

Good works and being a nice guy does not get you into heaven. Only by accepting Jesus Christ as your personal savior and accepting that he dies on the cross for your sins and welcoming him into your heart gives you a way to heaven. I live across the street from Arlington Cemetery where many brave soldiers are buried. I often wonder will those who were not professing Christians be in heaven? Christ described them as having the greatest love for laying down their life for their fellow man. Is it more important to be a Christian or Christ-like?

We don't go to heaven for being good people. We could help the poor spend hours feeding the hungry but without receiving Jesus Christ as God and saviour its nothing. We don't go to heaven by works but by receiving the Jesus in our hearts and letting him be in control.

It depends upon God! He is the only one who can judge the kind of life that that young pilot had. The eyes of God is different from ours! Normally, in a memorial service you would always hear about the GOOD side of the person. No one in his right mind would accuse the dead person as "bad".

Neither heaven nor hell until he will be resurected!
---Pierr7958 on 9/23/05

If they are saved, they go to Heaven. If they are not saved, they will go to Hell.

Our works here on earth mean nothing if one is not saved. We cannot "do enough" to earn the rights to heaven. That is why Jesus died for us!

This is the mindset of SOOO many people. That if you are basically a "good person", you will get to Heaven. Unfortunately for them -- that is not true.
---Debbie on 9/23/05

Just being a "good ol boy" don't cut it, The only way to heaven is through Jesus Christ. We are all sinners, no matter how "good" we are, we must all repent and accept Jesus Christ as our personal saviour. It is not by our works but by the works of Jesus Christ that we are saved. So, whether he went to heaven or hell is between him and Jesus, as with anyone else.
---PAT on 9/23/05

Where a person will spend eternity depends on whether or not they accepted Christ as their Savior. No matter how many good things you do in this life, it's never, ever enough to make you perfect so the only way to be in Heaven with God is to accept the cleansing blood of Jesus.
