Church Based Secular Evangelism
My church is implementing an evangelism project based on pyramid marketing - slick product-style gospel brochure minus hell and costs, pyramid statistical projection, weekly training on PR and pursuasion, performance tracking and a separate Sunday service for seekers. Is this biblical?
Moderator - It is all part of the Seeker Friendly movement which is to grow membership at the expense of the true Gospel. The programs will increase membership and people will die and go to Hell. It is the anti-christ spirit and not biblical.

According to Acts the original church functioned very well on network marketing as did Christ. He called one, that one went and called another. Perfectly biblical. The originators of network marketing were men who studied the Bible and found that it not only worked in religion but in business. We ought to take a lesson from the early church and use it.

Although I cannot speak for all churches in this category, the ones that I know of or have been told about because friends have visited, seem to not like to use the word 'sin' at all. Also they talk about money A LOT, 'tithing', 'love gifts', 'sow a seed for your need' etc. I know that a church cannot be run without money but a person cannot be saved if they are not made aware that it is their sin that they need to be saved from.

It sounds like a plan to get bums on seats and dollars in the pastor's pocket.

I haven't read the materials you write about, but I don't see anything wrong with public relations and getting the word out about your church. How are people going to know about your church unless you tell them, and sometimes that means public relations or advertising.

Jason, before we play judge and jury and executioner to something, let's examine it.
The world is full of options. Is a person closer to God and the work of the Holy Spirit in "sugar coated religion" or not subjecting themselves to any thing about God, good, bad, or otherwise. When we try to take folks from the unknown to the known, we must take small steps, not start the race on day one. It is not all good or all bad. Where is a church that does not need more active members??

Amen Moderator! One of the most popular books for "Bible" study now is the Purpose Driven Life which is a sequel to the Purpose Driven Church. The Purpose Driven Church was basically just a book to help people learn how to grow their churches without teaching the truth. Now churches are making people feel comfortable instead of leading them to Jesus.

Jesus didn't come with a marketing plan marked "happiness". He came and gave up His life on a cross, went into hell to deal with satan's garbage, then came back to earth to show us He will always be alive. He ascended into heaven and still gives those who believe His Holy Spirit power. He didn't have a spread sheet; He lived and died to show us the real " way, truth and life". His life IS our marketing plan!!

Guys, thanks the advice. I am from the far east. The brochure mirrors an Amway brochure outlining 4spiritual laws, reconciliation of the sinner man via Jesus to God, through repentence and belief. The lure comes from Benefits of Salvation - eternal life guaranteed, help, healing, restoration, fellowship (no hell_cost). There's a sinners prayer and an invitation to a separate service to find out more. But I am against employing entire spectrum of MLM recruitment strategy.

The gospel is simple. It is humans that complicate it. I would find a church that is interested in having visitors here the truth of God's Word. God cannot tolerate sin in His presence. The lost will spend eternity in Hell. Jesus came to give eternal life. Accept Christ and spend eternity with Him.
It isn't PR that will get people saved, it is the love that believers have for the lost that will bring people into the kingdom.

No, evangelism is simply sharing your faith. When Jesus sent them out 2 by 2, he instructed them to simply preach the gospel, it has nothing to do with tracking performance charts, numbers, or gain. This project sounds like what a cult would do to control members, and increase the number of its members.

"Come out from among them" "Touch not the unclean thing." God or Mammon-you pick. "I'll spew them out of my mouth." And all the sea merchants cried when Babylon was destroyed, but the saints said "Hallelujah." Patti

run, run, run, run, run, run and keeping running as far away from that hell hole as you can get. You don't say what denomination you are, but you can put independent baptist in your search engine and find good churches all over America

The unchurched do not know a scriptural church from any other kind. If we, who think we have got the message right, do not go out and evangelise and bring them in, the others with their wacky ideas surely will. It's down to us.

No, this is certainly NOT biblical. Time to go church hunting. Find a church that preaches the truth as it comes from God's word, not the minds of men who are after numbers and wanting to be showy at the expense of people's salvation.
