Nothing. They are both outside of Christ and dead in Adam.
---Linda_Smith on 12/3/07

An atheist believes there is no God. An agnostic doesn't know and may believe man is not capable of knowing. Christians use the word "unbeliever" meaning someone who doesn't accept Christianity. They may indeed have strong beliefs,.. Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, Pagans, Mystics etc. (or atheists or agnostics). The meaning of the word "unbeliever" depends upon what you believe a person does NOT believe. Perhaps a better word for us to use might be simply "non-christian".

Darwinism is atheism

It, along with the documentary hypothesis (Higher Criticism) seeks to remove humanity's accountability to anyone other than to himself.

That is what is behind all the anti-religion that is going on. If I am accountable to no one other than myself, truth is relative, and I am my own god-- just as Mormons and Shirley McLain believe

Tom ... atheism is the absence of faith in a god, or the rejection of the idea that there is a god. That is why "theism" form part of the word,
A person who puts his faith in himself, or in his job is not an athest unless he denies the existence of a god of some sort.

Atheism may indeed be a religion. Look at the fervor of atheists in the former Soviet Union and the present Peoples Republic of China. Their belief (not unbelief) has all the earmarks of "religion": Unquestioning obedience to and reverence for their leader, mandated celebrations and rituals, harsh disapproval for nonconformity. They were/are even required to study certain texts. Atheists here are free to be "uncaring"...but just wait for the antichrist (um..unless you're pretrib)
---Donna2277 on 5/18/06

Tom, I agree.

Wes, say "on their way to hell" instead of "destined..."
---Okebaram on 5/18/06

If the absence of faith results in a atheist view point then there are is no such thing as an atheist. Everyone puts their faith in something ie Job, spouse etc. People excercise faith everyday. Take a chair for example. How often have you just sat down in a chair assuming it would hold you or just started your car assuming it would start. That is faith. Faith has been tied to religion, but it used in everyday life.

They are both destined for hell....we need to show them love and teach them the gospel of Jesus Christ that will give them eternal life.

An issue full of semantic problems! It all depends upon definitions! Eph.2:12 uses 'atheos' like this: "having no hope, and _without God_," but could also be defined as against God (and most certainly is as "athe-ism"). Atheists today often have strong feelings (even hatred) against "Christianity" or else they'd simply 'not care.' In practice, atheists, agnostics, unbelievers, naturalists, "whatever label" are all essentially the same: They know not God.

The atheist can believe that Jesus Christ existed. But he will not agree that Jesus was the Son of God, because he does not believe that there is a God.
Using JC's name as a swera word does not mean the person accepts Jesus' divinity. Such people will also say "God2 as a swear word .. theyt do not think they do any wrong, bercause to them there is not God, and no God to offend.
---alan8869_of_UK on 11/3/05

It's not that atheists don't believe; they just don't care (I've known a few and they all knew about God, but couldn't have cared less).
---Heather on 11/3/05

Every Atheist I have met has used "Jesus Christ" in vein, what is up with that and who are they swearing to if they do not believe he exists?
---Robin on 11/3/05

The way I understand it= an agnostic has been told the truth but chooses not to believe (for whatever reason); an atheist simply doesn't care.
---Heather on 10/11/05

An Atheist refuses to believe that there is a God based upon UNFOUNDED thoughts.
I cannot say there are no purple birds in the world unless I have been everywhere in the world and seen all birds everywhere.
I can say I have never seen a purple bird and that would be fact.
An Atheist can say, "I don't believe there is a God." That fact would make them an unbeliever.
My point is/was we don't have to accept the Atheist thing as final comment.
I don't believe Atheist exist.

whether it be an atheist or an unbeliever, when something drastic happens in thier lives both parties go to someone who believes in God and ask them to pray. So therefore way down deep, they believe that there is a God or otherwise wouldn't ask for prayer.

there is NO such thing as a atheist. First, God dealt everyone a 'measure' of faith-> Romans 12:3 , they are rejecting him 2nd proof, Helen Keller, she couldnt hear, see, or speak, she was a wild animal, until anne sullivan taught her words in her hand, when she told her about God, Helen responded, she always knew he was there but just didnt know his name. How could she know she couldnt hear someone tell her,(deaf) she could read lips(blind)she couldnt ask( mute) some day every knee SHALL bow Romans 14:11.

An atheist is one who denies the very existence of God to the point of an ism, that is his belief. An unbeliever is one who does not believe but is open to a change of heart based on the theorys offered on the existence of God.His mind is still open,he is usually one who is of another belief.ie not a christian.
---Emcee on 10/2/05

a= without + theos= god + ist= one who is. Thus, atheist= one who is without god; or, a person who believes there is no God. And an unbeliever= a person who does not believe in God. And the agnostic= one who believes it is not possible to know God; or that it is not possible to know that there is a God.

My daughter claims that as an atheist she believes there is & never has been God. She believes that we create our own "heaven" or "hell" during this lifetime and that once dead you're just dead-see/feel nothing. She says she believes in just being a good person & treating others with respect - which means if people want to beileve in God that's their business & it's okay with her as long as they don't try to preach to or convert her. She has tried to direct me to several atheist sites.

#2 I did not qute follow how rejecting Christ makes someone an unbeliever. I would have througt an unbeliever was like an agnostic, who does not know one way or the other.
So I thought I would ask what people said
---alan8869_of_UK on 10/2/05

#1 I asked, because the following was said on another blog:
"Next ask her to prove she is an athiest instead of an unbeliever.
To be an athiest she would have to study all things and know about them to prove there is no God.
God will reveal Himself to her and she will have to reject Him making her an unbeliever not an athiest"

An atheist says "I know there is no God." An agnostic says "I don't know if there is a God."
