How To Witness To A Mormon

Excellent answers about "how to witness to non-believers in my home." I'd love to hear some suggestions on how to witness to my family, who live several states away, and who truly believe that they already are Christians... but they are immersed in a mormon cult.

Moderator - Been to Salt Lake on two mission trips to witnessing to LDS members. Walk in love at all times, walk in the power of the Holy Spirit and know your Bible inside out. We witnessed to 1,200 people one on one and it was a great experience. Also we read the Book of Mormon so we could use their own book to point out issues.

Please pray, pray, pray. they are truly misguided and think they have the truth. I was a Mormon for 50 years, After I left I learned the truth. It has been a difficult transition and they don't have to denounce their belief to be saved. Once they are the holy spirit will teach them the truth, with a little help from their friends. The bible is the ultimate true love letter to us from God. Have fun.

Sorry, I hadn't read rule # 4. Please disregard my previous post.

Mormons and Jehovah's witness are bold going door to door. Christians have the devil going against them when they witness. But Mormon's and JW's work for the devil so nobody but Christians try to stop them from witnessing. So anything from the Bible will work.

It will help you biblically refute their beliefs but like the Moderator says walk in love, and know your Bible, because they know the parts of it to turn the tables.

Latter-day Saints have marked a narrow path; the Protestant world endorses a broad one. For us there is but "one Lord, one faith, one baptism" (Eph. 4:5) and thus one true Church. For Protestants the point of unity is the saving grace of Christ, beyond which is an immense doctrinal and denominational diversity. They hold it to be unchristian for us to suppose that they are not on the path of salvation while rejecting as outrageous any notion that we could possibly be on that path.

..concede the victory to Mormonism. Orthodoxy in both Catholicism and Protestantism precludes the possibility that anyone since the ministry of Christ can write scripture. Our message centers on the verity that God can still speak. And if that is the case, then Catholics and Protestants are left to account for the fact that he has not spoken to them and that when he did speak through a living prophet, they refused to listen. We profess no doctrines that do not have modern revelation as their source.

We enter the sandbox of our Enemy if we meet them on their own turf.

Holy Spirit is the one causing us to seek Christ, and He does not work using BOM, or PGP or D&C. He works using God's word.

Unless you are well-schooled in Mormonism, or a former LDS do not go into that arena. Stick with the 66 books of OT & NT.

Go to a Christian bookstore and go to the "cult" section and you will find books about Mormonism and how to witness to them.

If the Book of Mormon is the "most correct book of any on earth" (History of the Church, vol. 4:461), then why does it not contain essential Mormon doctrines such as...

Church organization
Plurality of Gods
Plurality of wives doctrine
Word of Wisdom
God is an exalted man
Celestial marriage
Men may become Gods
Three degrees of glory
Baptism for the dead
Eternal progression
The Aaronic Priesthood
Melchizedek Priesthood

Many times my husband witness to Mormons until they try to talk doctrine. Then he tells them I used to be a Mormon and lets me take over from there. I was adopted by Mormons when I was 11 years old. Thank God my birth mother (who had died) taught me about Jesus. You might also want to go to the public library and find out about the book that was written about the time that Joseph Smith had the visit from the "angel." It was the same story that is in the Book of Mormon.

The most effective witness to other mormons is someone who used to be one.

Moderator; The reason I posed the question is psl. 146.4 KJV

Moderator;Answer me this one question . Is it your soul, spirit or body that contains your "thoughts"?

Moderator - That is a tough one because I can see people making a case for all three, two or even one of the above.
---1st_cliff on 10/19/05

Moderator ;2 tim 1.7 for one. Outside the bible we have "in good spirits" the infamous "Christmas Spirit"

I almost became Mormon -with my cousin. These are a peculiar bunch of folks with WEIRD ideas. I'm glad God told me NOT to. Not sure they CAN be witnessed to.

Moderator;Just an observation on.2cor.5.8, Paul is saying what he would "rather be" not ,making a statement of fact!(there are lots of things I would rather be) Are you assuming that when he says "absent " that he's referring to "spirit"? There's nothing in this scripture that says immortal spirit! Spirit is also an attitude, frame of mind etc..and spirit beings (angels)

Moderator - Please show the scriptures that the Spirit is an attitude.

Moderator; Spirit- Bible definition, Strongs concordance (Heb-ruach Gr.pneuma)Air, wind, breath ,from which we get our English word pneumatic (air driven machinery) pneumonia (lung-air problem) What is it that never dies?

Moderator - "We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord." 2 Corinthians 5:8

Marilee, Pray for them and hope they will come to you if they 'feel their world crashing down around them' or are moved by the Spirit to see the truth. Thousands of facts proving their man-made religion is wrong will never break through the barrier of emotional blind faith in their cult; unless they REALLY DO want to know the truth, not just say those words. This is true of ANY cult OR human bias; examples abound here at CN too.
---Daniel on 10/18/05

Moderator; Who better than you,to verify the fact that ONLY in the Book of Morman (Alma 42.9) does it say "the soul never dies" and nowhere in "our"Bible!

Moderator - The spirit is what never dies.
