a fast is a fast. your program is a diet plan. don't mix them. however, i do think there is spiritual benefits in learning self-control.

Congratulations on losing the weight, first of all. That is great. You were specifically fasting to lose weight. When we do a Fast, it is usually to get closer to God and to deal with issues we need to resolve. Usually some issues that can only be resolved through prayer and fasting. Losing weight is a worthwhile goal to pursue through prayer and fasting. I don't see anything wrong with it, really. We need God's help in everything we attempt to do in life. Why not to lose weight. God bless you.

Arthur - Are you still alive? That is VERY strict dieting. You must eat some solid food too.

Being on a fast should not be all about losing weight. If you went on a fast to lose weight then you went on it for the wrong reasons.
A fast brings you closer to God and asking Him to be your provider for whatever you have given up.

Anytime you sacrifice something you enjoy to spend more time with Jesus in Word and prayer is awesome! The fact you lost 125 pounds is an added blessing!

Fasting can be a great spiritual exercise--but extended ones can be ambiguous. Remember, the demons never eat at all.
As members of OA can tell you, fasting will also stir things up--emotional (and maybe spiritual) and psychological issues that need to be dealt with in your life.
And then there's the question of what such crash diets as you describe can do to your system.
I'm not condmning fasting, but shorter ones for most of us are more prudent.

A Lot of christians fast but a majority fast for wrong reasons. For more information read Isaiah 58.

Lee you are correct. Some people should not fast because of health issues. Some should not fast AT ALL and some can just go without one meal but should do no more than that. God knows every individuals personal circumstances and knows what is in the heart. WHY we do, or do not do, certain things is far more important to Him than whether we do them or not.

I have been wanting to fast. The problem has been finding a supplement in the form of a shake to give me the protein I need during the fast. I can feel the devil attacking my spirit and I really think a spiritual fasting and total cleansing of my body and mind will drive Satan out. Can you recommend the shake you are using so that I might research a little further.

Am I not wrong in believing that there are some people that have health problems and should not fast? What about diabetics? If the sugar level in the blood is very low, one could go into a coma and die. I know as my wife is a diabetic. Perhaps one should check with a doctor before undergoing such an experience.

There's nothing spiritual about fasting or dieting. During a fast, it's the time spent with the Lord that affects the spirit. All Christians are called to fast (Mat 6:16-18) however we are free to fast at our own discretion. Regarding how long to fast, when to fast or what to fast, Scripture gives no specifics.
I've been on a 40 day "shake" fast and a 25 day "water" fast. The shake fast was easier! :) I lost weight on both but it found me again after I returned to eating! :(

'Some people get so involved and loose so much so quickly that they actually manage to go from an O to an A blood type' Where did this information come from - I've never heard that this was possible? Regarding the question - if you were doing it to lose weight it is not fasting in the biblical sense, if the weight loss was a bi-product of genuine fasting, well done and hope it stays off.
---M.P. on 10/21/05|
Diet and fasting are two different things. Diet is what you eat. Fasting is not eating. In scripture fasting is with prayer. Acts 14:23 Matthew 6:18
For medical reasons a person may have to fast for a short period of time.
That's great you lost weight.

Wow - love to collect diet ideas - there are some very very far down on this scroll.
But no one speaks of such success. Did you change your blood type to an A? Some people get so involved and loose so much so quickly that they actually manage to go from an O to an A blood type - don't know if this is forever or not.
Can you share some more on this scroll?
