December Christ's Conception

I was once told that once they found that Christ wasn't born of Christmas Dec, that one reason thay kept it was that is is the conception of Christ. Not exact date but month, that the conception by the Holy Spirit was just as important as Christs Birth. Was anyone else told this?

Moderator - Yes, I have read it as a counter arguement why Christians can consider December for Christ's birth.

Part 1

There is no way to really tell when He was conceived. There is little evidence in the Gospels regarding His birth. There is, however, an astronomical account that is consistant with what could appear to be the only Biblical referance from Revelation.

David; To answer your question, Zeckariah was just taking his 2 week turn as he was an Aronic priest, (they had so many that they shared duties on a rotating basis) He went into the "holy" because there's where the incence alter was; He didn't go into the "most holy" as that was done only once a year as you stated.

Part 2

The priests that were appointed for each month were responsible for feasting at the Lord's table, redressing it, keeping the lamps lit, and prayer.

Are you suggesting that he was the only priest that month? Did they change something in the Post-exile Temple that was different than the tabernacle?

1st Cliff, not going to say you are wrong there is just a question that needs to be asked. If the other priests could not go in after him to check on him and had to wait for him to come out of chamber he was in, it could only mean he was in the Most Holy place where the Ark of the Covenant was supposed to be. This was only done on one day, the Day of Atonement.

David 7647; Let's clarify it a bit further 1Chron.24 lists the 24 two week periods that the priest served in the temple and each one is named. The 8th period is Abijah ,which would mean Zacheriah served the 4th month (circa) Tammuz june/july! So Elizabeth concieved John (june/july) he would be born march/april. In her sixth month Mary concieved Jesus (dec/jan) putting Jesus' birth sept/oct!

1st Cliff... You have an interesting point to consider. The only disagreement that could be made is that if Zechariah went inside the Temple in a duty that is performed only once a year, hence no one could come and look to him, then it would have been the day of Atonement. This would have been on the 10th day of the 7th month.

Now... The problem would be to determine the year. If you can do that, you may be onto something. Debate puts the birth between 7 B.C. and 1 B.C.

It need not be that confusing; We know that John the baptist was born 6 months before Jesus. We know that his father was Zeckeriah, served at the temple for a two week period, and was doing so when his wife Elizabeth concieved John! His term was called Abijah and coencided to Tammuz-june/july do the math! At least that's what my research told me!

NVBarbara... If you have any info regarding ancient Roman law regarding how census' were run, when, and where you would have a great asset. Please share any sources you would be gathering from.

Moderator, you're good at this, can you find an answer? Doesn't it seem strange that Mary and Joseph were traveling when Mary was near her time? Isn't Fall the time of year when EVERYBODY had to go to their hometown for Census count?

Moderator - I would need the exact scriptures that your are referring to. Thanks.

this is a very interesting issue. i wonder if there is any birth file stored in special dept. in israel? it is wonderful to celebrate his birthday each year on special occassion, but every day we celebrate him in our heart.

No one will really know for sure about any of this so I wouldn't give much attention to it. The only fact is that He has come and will return. We should be paying attention to that. Bro John.

mm i think that dec 25 jsut REPRESENTS christs birth..
---angie on 10/26/05

The RCC celebrates the "Immaculate Conception" in Dec., not sure where they came up with that date. But if that is true, Jesus would have been born in the Fall as many believe.

Part 3

Around 3-2 BC, the claws of Scorpio had come the closest to Virgo that it had ever been in all known History.

Josephus only gives astronomical signs to Harod's death. These signs persisted up until 1 BC.

It is believed by some that the hour in which Scorpio's claws almost touched Virgo was the hour of Christ's birth.

Part 2

In Ernest L. Martin's Birth of Christ Recalculated (ISBN: 0960560408), there is given evidence that the woman in Revelation is Mary. She has 12 stars around her head. These stars are believed to correspond with the 12 stars in the Virgo Constelation. The Dragon was made up of two constelations, one of which was the Scorpio constelation.
