I guess it's what one means by immortal. Everyone lives forever, just depends on where, & who with, Echad/God in Heaven/The New Heaven & Earth, or with the (d)evil one in hell, then the lake of fire!
---bob6749_[Elishama] on 11/16/07

Ulrika; There are NO verses,of the more than 800 times soul (nephesh Heb psyche Gr.)is mentioned ,nowhere does it say immortal, deathless or never dieing!
---1st_cliff on 3/27/07

Emcee: Don't make it harder by cofusing yourself. The text says that God shaped man from dirt and then breathed the BoL into his nostrils and man BECAME A LIVING SOUL! (person)
That's it! D + BofL = LS!
---Pierre on 11/27/05

Pierre::Gen2,v7 Says different its what god did,BOL that gave life Not Pneuma.Sorry
---Emcee on 11/22/05

Emcee: I am going to give you my answer, feel free to disagree with me.
1. Dirt/Dust (DD) + BREATH OF LIFE (BoL) (air, pneuma) >
man BECAME a LIVING SOUL (LS-person)
NOte: With the above combination man BECAME a living soul. It does not say that man RECEIVED a living soul. THere is a big difference!
Note: Both DD + BoL must be present for there to be a LS. A LS cannot exist BY ITSElF! When either the DD or the BoL is missing the LS ceaces to exist, until the resurrection day! P.

Emcee; The fact that they are two different words with 2 different meanings indicates that they are not "synonymous" soul(nepheh HEB. psyche Gr.) spirit (ruach Heb. pneuma Gr.))
---1st_cliff on 11/21/05

1st Cliff:Sometimes 2different words have the same meaning Proper nouns are interchangeable However, have you ever seen either to raise a line of comparison.IMHP they are the same.I am only mortal.
---Emcee on 11/20/05

Read Rom.14:10, I Cor.15:50-58, Heb.9:27, Rev.20:1-15. Additionally, Messias/Jesus Christ's blood was not that "pure" blood sprinkled on The Mercy Seat In Heaven until "after" His death, burial, & ressurection, as He allowed NO One to touch Him until He performed His High Priestly duties in Heaven's Holy of Holies, [remember Heb.5:1-11], then returned to earth again [Jn.20:24-31]. As He is, so will many of His Talmidim be also! Bottom Line? I Jn.3:1(2)13,

Emcee; You are not correct in that you do not differenciate between soul and spirit! They are 2 different words with very different meanings.
---1st_cliff on 11/20/05

Pierre::BOL=living soul or living person--as I understand the soul is the spirit of christ or God in us.if the spirit is living we are one with God but if the spirit is dead we are not with God but with sin & hence our soul is dead while the body is living. On the completion of our lives the body returns to DUST, But the soul goes back to god for assesment & his decision.Am I correct.as you have lived so shall you reap.Pneuma does not enter into the equation.
---Emcee on 11/19/05

Emcee: Yes we are talking about what 1st Cliff's quote talks about: air = breath of life!
That BoL combined with dirt = LIVING SOUL or LIVING PERSON, who of course is NOT YET immortal.
---Pierre on 11/17/05

Emcee; If you look up the definition of "spirit" you'll see that it comes from the Gr,pneuma, meaning Air,wind, breath. Our word pneumatic (air driven machinery) and pneumonia (lung disease) come from pneuma! #4151-Strong's
---1st_cliff on 11/16/05

Pierr& Eloy:: the breath --are we talking about the function of the lungsTo inhale & exhale which ceases at death?cause the breath of life as I understand is the living christ within us called a soul &this goes back to almighty God for judgement.that is why we make reference to body & soul, not body breath & soul!!this is a christian & catholic teaching universally accepted.God said dust thou art & into dust you shall return.why must the soulwhich you cant see remain with the body for what purpose?
---Emcee on 11/15/05

Eloy; Soul in Greek is Psyche, the root word for everything "mental" (psychiactric etc,,) Doctors determine if a person is dead when there's no brain activity. when the mind (brain) is dead , YOU no longer exist! Medical science can keep your flesh alive, but that's all it is ,flesh!
---1st_cliff on 11/15/05

The soul is not the mind, and the soul is not the spirit, they are separate. Each person is made up of a body which is the building or flesh; a spirit which is the breath or aspiration; and a soul which is the life or anima. The soul can be living or dead. When one dies the spirit leaves the body and soul, and goes back to God. The body and soul remain behind on earth, until that time that the Lord will call for the dead to rise. (Mark 12:30; Acts 17:25; I Thessalonians 5:23; Hebrews 4:12).
---Eloy on 11/14/05

Emcee: I am not sure what point you are making but let me just say clearly that the breath of life BY ITSELF, does not constitute a "living soul"!
---Pierre on 11/13/05

Pierr& jerry:: Whose breath are we talking about---GODS; it never dies Your equation is wrong breath of God = infinity.without the breath It is still DIRT DUST.
---Emcee on 11/13/05

The soul is "the immaterial essence of an individual life 2 : the spiritual principle embodied in human beings or the universe 3 : an active or essential part 4 : the moral and emotional nature of human beings 5 : spiritual or moral force 6 : person 7 : a strong, positive feeling (as of intense sensitivity and emotional fervor) conveyed esp. by black American performers;..."

So in some sense it can be immortal.
---lee on 11/13/05

Emcee: Your definition of the soul does not square with the Bible. According to Gen 2:7, DUST + BREATH = SOUL. Without the dust, the soul does not exist.
---jerry6593 on 11/13/05

When God created man He sculped him out of the dirt of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life and He became a living soul. NOTE WELL: D + BL = LS.
A living soul= a living human being ONLY and we know that human beings are not immortal but do die!

Ulrika; If you want a scripture that says the "soul never dies" you're gonna have to go to the book of Morman Alma 42.9. That's the only "scripture????" that exists! (that says that)
---1st_cliff on 11/12/05

Ulrika this is not a catch question What is the soul?My answer is, the spirit of God with which we are entrusted, to guide us back to God in our sojourn here on this earth. And to return it to him as spotless as when we first got it untarnished.A dead soul is one that has been abused disused & refuses God.
---Emcee on 11/12/05

Body, Soul and Spirit

Well the body dies and everyone wonders what happens to the rest. The spirit of a man is either good(Holy Spirit)
or bad (involved with Sata. The soul goes which ever way the spirit of the man directs. The soul I think goes on after death or we would not have to learn about heaven and hell. There is life after death. But God does the deciding according to our affection for Christ.

Jerry, thank you for the verses. I wondered because in Revelation 20:4 it talks about the souls ... What do you mean by death is not eternal life? Ezekiel 18:4 has a cross referrence to Romans 6:23 Could it be talking about our phycial dead?
---Ulrika on 11/12/05

What saith the scriptures? Ezekiel 18:20, 31-32 (whole chapter good); Genesis 2:7, 16-17; Genesis 3:3-5 (notice God's word and the Serpent's word); Genesis 3:19, 7:22-23. Eccl 9:3-6, 10; 1 Thes 4:13-18; Revelation 20:5-9, 15; Revelation 20:4.
---Wayne87 on 11/12/05

Can you tell me from scripture is our soul immortal? Immortal would mean the soul does not die, but either goes on to heaven or hell? Ulrika
---Ulrika on 11/12/05

Only God has innate immortality (1 Tim 6:16). Souls are not immortal (Eze 18:4, 20). The soul that sinneth, it shall DIE. Death is not eternal life, no matter how you spin it.
