How Did God Populate The World

I have a friend who asked if the world was started through incest. I tried explaining, but then he asked when did incest become "not OK". I am still a new Christian and did not have an answer. Can anyone help?

Woody, God does not live in time as we do. He doesn't go around changing His mind. He created a plan before the foundation of the world, and that plan is unfolding before our eyes. The plan is already complete before Him. And all things will happen as He has told us in His Word. Yet, you are correct, this is His ballpark. He is God Almighty. Everything He planned is perfect and just.

God seems to change his mind on things. Murder was okay in the old testament even after the 10 commandments said, "Thou shalt not kill." The Jews then went into the promised land and killed everybody. Then in the New Testament, God said, no more of that, and it wasn't accepted. It's God's ballpark, he can change the rules whenever and however he wants to.

Adam and Eve were created very good (Genesis 1:31) in the context of a finished creation which God had already called good So they would not have had copying mistakes, so brother-sister intermarriage would not have had the problem it has today. Harmful mutations would take many generations to accumulate to levels where close intermarriage would be dangerous for the offspring.

A Christian has to make up his mind what he will believe. A double minded man will receive nothing from God. Our references must be biblical to add to or take away from Gods word will bring a curse. If science does not line up with the Bible then it is not true,to say there was a form of man not created by God is heresy. Adam is the only species by which all men came if some of them became degenerate and lived in caves so be it,but they were still from Adam.

There was no such Sin as incest until God gave the Law to Moses, in the Law it was plainly given to whom a person may have sexual relations.
Deuteronomy 5:3 The LORD made not this covenant with our fathers, but with us, even us, who are all of us here alive this day.

Most of mans ancesters came out of Africa. Neanderthals lived in Europe for 100,000 years. Home sapiens mingled with the neanderthals for some time. DNA evidence show now they did not interbreed. As to Adam, he was the first 'covenated' man.

Pologamy was done for many reasons lust, for alliences between tribes,Kings did it for more lands, peace treaty,& many heirs due to the high death rates. Even w/Princess Diana they joked the heir & the spare. They also needed many to work the herds, dig wells, protect flocks. One tribe in the Amazon its the women w/many husbands for farming reasons. But it caused much trouble jealous spouses, jealous kids, jealous moms, each mom wanted her child as head- the hand that rocks the cradle rules the world!
---Jeanne on 11/13/06

Polygamy was very helpful in populating the world. It would be easy for one man to create 100 or more children through having multiple wives. [I'm sure you can see why this would not work the other way around. A woman does not bear more than a handful of children.]

you can help yourself by studying the bible for your own gain..maybe when you come to understand it, then understanding of the truth will keep you in it...taste, and see how good Jesus is...God did not populate the earth..He said to A&E, go and populate the earth. Satan started everything evil and wrong...not God..thats why he was thrown out of heaven along with his supporting angels..

I'm not very intelegent when it comes to the bible but... Befor Adam and Eve eat the fruit from the tree there was no sin... For example... They did not see each other as naked till they eat the fruit.

Where did Cain get his wife? Was she a good mate? Was she a decent mate? Was she a nice mate? Well I will say she was not a 'prime-mate.'
---len_k on 12/4/05

Len K, the answer to the first of your 4 questions is that he was brought up with her, she had the same parents that he had (there were no other parents then). He married HIS SISTER. There is no reason why anyone would be able to answer any of your other questions as far as I'm aware.

m.p., Good questions. Adam (as well as most of us)called God "Father" yet he was spoken into being. Eve was indeed separated by God as a help meet. She was the feminine side of Adam and would be the mother whether of a sexual birth or "adoptive" one. NOTE: Gen.2:24, Adam was to leave his "Father and MOTHER", that had to be God. The sin is in the blood. Blood birth. Just look through the Bible with that thought.

mike fl, If Adam had children by 'speaking them into existence' why did God need to create Eve? I know He said that it was not good for man to be alone so Eve was a companion for Adam but God also told them to go forth and multiply. I'm sure He intended them to do so as we do now. Eve is called the mother of all living. How would she have been a mother if Adam had just spoken children into existence?
---M.P. on 11/29/05

Word for thought. God made man in His image. A spirit. As an image of God, Adam would have had children the way God would. Speak them into existence. With the introduction of Satan i.e. Serpent's seduction of Eve, all the rules changed, including child birth. It became carnal as animals. (Serpent was an animal). Pureness declined from then on. Yet note each 8th generation was pure.

David, Adam & Eve were told upon their creation to multiply. That's why I believe they had children in Eden. Then after they sinned, God told Eve she would have pain in childbirth. Until God gave His law, inter-family marriage was not wrong.

Leviticu 18:6 "None of you shall approach to any thati is near of kin to him, to uncover their nakedness: I am the LORD." Incest was prohibited by God for physical, social & moral reasons. Without these specific laws, sexual promiscuity wld hv been more likely, 1st in families and then outside. When improper sexual relations begin family life is destroyed.

It is interesting that apparently Islam does not discourage the marriage of cousins
It has been found in the UK that a large percentage of Muslim cousins marrying have deformed babiess
Pressure is being put on the govemnment to ban marriage between cousins and enforce it.
I pray they do, but fear they will not, being afraid of being called racist

If you read Leviticus chapter 18 starting verse 6 you will see the prohibitions given. Prior to then the people had intermarried with close relatives because it was not forbidden and doing so had not created problems. As inherited illnesses and defects get worse with intermarriage there would come a time when marrying relatives that were far more distant was necessary.
---M.P. on 11/19/05

God made Adam from the dust of the earth. He made Eve from Adams rib as a companion for Adam.On sinning they were expelled from the darden and told to multiply ( copulate/ breed). They and their offspring multiplied. However with the removal of several generations abnomamlities physical and or mental must have become apparent because by the book of Leviticus a ban was put on too close family copulations and other forbidden relations.
---David on 11/19/05

But as many centuries passed, many harmful, degenerative mutations accumulated in the human gene pool. (because of Sin) So, this is probably a major reason for God giving laws to the Israelites through Moses against intermarriage between close relatives (Leviticus 1820). Today there would be even more chance of deformity/disease in the offspring of such a union than in Moses timeconsequently, even first cousin marriages are outlawed in many countries.

As mentioned, even Abraham, living long after the creation of mankind, married his half-sister Sarah, and they were the ancestors of the very vibrant Jewish people group.
