People place too much on smoking and hardly none on other fleshly pleasures. Overeating, or not eating nourishing foods, eating anything that is bad for you (ie:processed food)
The list goes on of what is bad for you.
One Christian was telling another Christian how smoking is a sin, yet didn't consider her own overweight body.
Smoking is a bad habit not easy to break as is all other habits. Chewing your fingernails, playing with your hair, watching too much television, etc.

It is what goes out of our hearts that
defiles us, not what goes in our mouth is what Jesus said.
Eating with unwashed hands is not a sin.
And look at what germs could be on unwashed hands.
---Jane on 3/24/09

No one should smoke.Ever! It is a foolish and a very unhealthy choice for anyone to make.It is like choosing slow suicide or a death wish.
---Robyn on 3/4/08

Sissy you are playing with words, or the construction of your blogs. I could just as well claim that homosexuality is not a sin, only the arrogant refusal to cease from the activity.
---alan8869_of_UK on 3/4/08

Why would you want to smoke? It is very unhealthy whether saved or unsaved. I feel Christians should not smoke but it is a personal decision on the part of the believer. Let God be the judge.
---Robyn on 7/5/07

Shall we strain the gnat & swallow a camel? Over indulgence of food or improper consumption can be unhealthy. What part of tobacco is nutritional? The tar, the nicotine, the smoke inhalation? The habit is usually drug addiciton (to nicotine). Cancer is a benefit of smoking. Of all the uses for a cigarette/cigar/smokeless tobacco, how many are beneficial to us? They make us sexy? They make us stink. We burn stuff (especially when a butt is tossed out doors).
What part is a good testimony for Christ?
---mikefl on 7/4/07

Our Body is the Temple of the Holy Spirit. why would we want to pollute it?
To sin against our body is not pleasing to God.
His power is great to help you overcome.

Others may think it's okay because they are ignorant, but don't be surprised when you begin to enjoy life and the sting in smoking's tail Rips the joy of would be LIFE from you! SATAN is a liar! life can be long and wonderful but My how we can be careless with it. If the devil is roaming around looking for whom he can devour, WHY GIVE HIM A HELPING HAND ;0(

There's your trouble, canned vegetables are full of sodium. As for burgers, ever watched Fast Food Nation?
Are you a singleton on a budget? Even so, I have some ideas that won't break your budget and are much healthier than canned vegetables and burgers.

After i received the Holy Ghost I really didn't understand the power the lord had instilled in me and he delivered me from cigareets but i kept smoking and he spoke to me audiabley and his voice fill the hole room and it was gentle and he said you are sining against me Because we are the temple of God and we are not to defile it
---Betty on 7/4/07

If all I did was eat vegetables I could eat want many would consider to be a guttonous amount. The average can of potatoes has 200 calories. The average Basal Metabolic Rate for men is 2800. This means if I layed in bed all day I can eat 14 cans of potatoes every day and not gain weight. 2 cans fills me up. So that is seven meals in one day. Thats very gluttonous but does not cause any weight gain.
---Matthew on 7/3/07

Now lets say instead I ate vienna sausage. One can of vienna sausage contains about 300 calories, but one can is much less than

2 cans of potatoes. We need at least 3 cans of veinna sausage to fill me up as much as the potatoes did. now if I ate the same amount as the potatoes we are looking at 7 meals of 900 calories each. Thats 6,300 calories total in one day. If I layed in bed all day I would be gaining almost a pound everyday.
---Matthew on 7/3/07

When it comes to those who are obese it isn't about how much they eat as much as it is about what they eat. Fast food and going out to eat(restaurant food is normally very fattening) is the major factor in obesity. Next time you go to the doctor ask His opinion about why so many are obese. He most likely will tell you the contributing factors are eating the wrong things and lack of exercise. Gluttony isn't a big contributor in the obesity problem. It can be a factor but it is not the big problem.
---Matthew on 7/3/07

I am fan of the Double Quarter Pounder Cheese Burger. Since I am dieting I can't eat it. Is it because it's too big a meal? No. It's because it's too many calories.(740 calories). Eating 3 of these would have me go over my daily calorie limit. That's not a gluttonous amount for one day. Not even 5 would be. But the amount of potatoes I could eat to match the calories in 3 quarter pounders is a "gluttonous" amount for one day. It's not about about how much we eat. It's about what we eat.
---Matthew on 7/3/07

You would think so, Alan. But statistics don't bear that one out.
Americans are obese because of gluttony. Only a relatively small amount of the population suffers from thyroid imbalance, glandular problems. It's denial to think our epidemic is due to illness. The gluttony brings illness.
---ChickPeas on 7/3/07

Jean ... The obese do not damage the bodies (living temples) of others
In any case, most obese people are obese, not because of gluttony, but because of misfunction of the body.

No one should smoke....if they want to be healthy to the best of their ability.
Smoking is a sick , smelly , disgusting piece of toxic addictive garbage that makes you addicted. It is very dirty too. It sticks to your clothes & makes the walls turn brown or black. It makes you think it has you and won't let you go..It makes you feel hopeless and trapped.
It's like bringing a piece of hell into your body and making a home for it inside you, so that it can slowly destroy you from the inside out. YUK.
---Lisa on 7/3/07

No, Christians do not smoke.
---Eloy on 7/3/07

Thou shalt not smoke is not a commandment. You should never smoke in front of a weak or newly born Christians. They will tell you it's wrong. Smoke like you do with eating and drinking - in moderation.

But personally, I suggest not smoking at all.
---Steveng on 7/2/07

I smoked as a Christian until I was diagnosed with Emphysema. I cried to Jesus, He got me to confess it as a sin which I did, then He set me completely free from the whole cigarette thing. That was 2 1/2 years ago and I now hate cigarettes and everything to do with them.
---Helen_5378 on 7/24/06

absolutely no..if you know what the scripture says about your body, then no..your body is God's you think He will come into a smelly ugly temple tarnished by nicotine and tar? think again...but dont forget, God is a forgiving and patient God..if your still smoking, He's still waiting for you to stop altogether...think about it friend..dont wait too long, you may miss the boat..
---janaj on 7/24/06

Sissy ... I do not know ... maybe future generations will say we were. Your forbears in Ameria had no compunction about using slave labour. nor were our Christians averse to shipping the slaves to America. Yet now we know it is sin.
It is not for you to judge Rebecca. Tell her smoking is harmful, but do not say she sines by it.
---alan8869_of_UK on 1/24/06

pt 2: Rebecca, "I" did not judge you- the word of God has already done that. And if being completely free of the struggles of the flesh was a requirement in order to preach the gospel and proclaim the truth of God's word- THERE WOULD NOT BE ONE PERSON ON THIS EARTH THAT WOULD BE QUALIFIED TO PREACH, OR WITNESS EVEN. It's always the same old tired line from people like you who get mad at the truth- "Don't judge me, you're not perfect, yada yada yada...."

Sissy .. we are all rebellious in not giving up things which harm ourselves or others. What about the cars, planes, A/C, excessive heating in homes, which cause pollution to God's lovely Earth, and death to ourselves? What about over-fishing?
---alan8869_of_UK on 1/22/06

Well then Sissy, you stated that "your not completely free on everything", in that case you have no right telling others what is wrong and judging them. You work on yours and I'll work on mine.
---Rebecca_D on 1/21/06

the enemy commonly makes sin enjoyable. If it weren't pleasureable, than few people would be tempted to do it. He also knows that it is more difficult to give up something that we like to do, than it is to give up something we don't like. Also notice how when one sins they will make 101 excuses to rationalize and reason it away in order to make it acceptable, then they can continue in it. i challenge you all, don't listen to the enemy, just give it up, you don't need it, and come rellish in God's liberty.

I once heard a preacher say " If God wanted us to smoke he would have made us with a smokestack on our backs". I too was a former heavy smoker. Even after coming to the Lord, this habit didnt leave right away. As I comitted more & more of my life to the Lord, that desire left. The Bible says We are the temple of the Holy Ghost and not to defile that temple, I Cor. 3:16, 17 & I Cor. 6:19,20. The more you give of yourself to the Lord & praise/worship him, you will start noticing your life change.
---Kacee on 1/20/06

What I said was basically can't you stop being so vicious in your argument? Sissy, I defended you against Willow, but should also have asked you to answer my challenge about your own rebellious reluctance to give up harmful things.
---alan8869_of_UK on 1/20/06

What in heaven's name am I doing so wrong Sissy? If my smoking comes between me and God, then it becomes wrong to me, because I have put cigarettes before God. But of course I am the only one who does this right? mmmmmm, something to think about Sissy.
---Rebecca_D on 1/20/06

Carol B. It is proven that smoking is harmful to the body. It does not do any good to get on anyone's case about smoking. They will not quit, until they want to. God wants us to take care of ourselves. I do not judge people who smoke, because if not for the grace of God, there go I. Sometimes praying for someone helps you, to get a better attitude about their behavior. When they do try to quit, encourage them and pray for them. Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which stengthens me.

---Sissy on 1/20/06

So, Sissy, what is your point? Yes it does make sense because no one is going to tell me that I am dying and going to hell because I smoke. But ya know, I don't care what you think because I know from the depths of my heart, your not better than me and that you too have habits that you need to break. So get off of your high horse Sissy.

OK Rebecca- what about YOU and the 10 commandments? Do YOU keep them? If not, which ones do YOU break, and why? And, did you read ANYTHING else I have said except for that part??? How many times do I have to say what I've already said-to-death, before you will understand WHAT I said??!!
---Sissy on 1/10/06

Please read 1 Cor. 3:16,17. 3 John 2. I hope this text will give us an answer.
---alfred on 1/10/06

Your the one whom said that you keep all of his commandements, you even named them on what you do and don't do. Don't preach to someone on something when you have faults of your own that are as bad or even worse.
---Rebecca_D on 1/9/06

Rebecca, your Bible must look like a pretzel. Look, one more time, for the understanding impaired....I never said the Bible said it was a sin to smoke.. I never said I did not sin, I never said I did not have any battles in my own life, never claimed to be perfect, never said I don't fall to temptation and (regretably) break a commandment- never said it, never even hinted around about it. So, your 'argument' is old, and has already been discussed to death. I've said all I've got to say on the subject

Sissy: The word of God doesn't say it is wrong to smoke. I'm sure you don't have a habit of some sort? Caffine perhaps? of course it don't have to be a food or a drink it could be other things. Sissy, I think that you are are self-centered and self-righteous. Alan, it does say that homosexuals is a sin, no their not convicted over it because they are taught wrong.
---Rebecca_D on 1/9/06

Sissy: People don't get convicted over the same things at the same time. Only God can convict someone over something not man. You said nothing comes before your God. I know that the fleshly part will not let you put God first in all you do. How many times have you started to read your bible, but the phone will ring and you set and chat to a friend? That is putting that phone call (or whatever it may be) before God. You said you don't tell lies about people, so it's okay to tell lies, not just on people?

part 2: We ALL sin, and give in to his tricks on occasion. The word says anyone who claims they don't, is a liar. But when one claims to be a Christian, yet continues on in every-day WILLFUL rebellious sinful activity, knowing God is not pleased, THAT'S a different story. When I said I don't break the commanments, I meant on a regular, defiant and planned basis

Willow- no problem :)

Bruce, you mis-understood. I did not mean to imply that when I, or ANY of us, sin, that we are dragged into it and forced to do it against our will. Maybe 'willingly' gave that impression, oops. I agree with you, and the word, on this subject. What I was talking about though, is blatant, pre-meditated, planned defiant sin. The tempter is very sneaky, and usually takes the Christian off guard.

---Lynn on 1/8/06

IF "not willingly" then how? I encourage you to consider these two verses;

1 Corinthians 10:13, "There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it."

James 1:14, "But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed."
---Bruce5656 on 1/8/06

Willow ... can you remind us just when Sissy said she never sins? She listed certain of the 10 commandments and said she had not broken them. But we all know that does not mean we do not sin. I have looked all the way back and cannot see she said she does not sin.
---alan8869_of_UK on 1/8/06

No I did NOT profess that- ANYwhere on this, or any other blog. I posted my OWN words again, so that you MIGHT be able to comprehend them. When I listed the 10, and said I don't break them, I was speaking of currently. My statement, "IF and WHEN I do break one, I ask forgiveness", should tell you that I have broken a few in the past, and I probably will again- NOT willingly, but I still battle the flesh like you or anybody else. ---willow on 1/7/06

Sissy ... I did wonder where Willow stated you said you did not sin. As far as I can recall only one person has said that on these blogs, and it was not you. I hope he apologises, But as to the main discussion, you say that the rebellion is sin, even if smoking is noot. But is it for you or any man to say that smoking is rebellion? Scripture does not lay down any rules about smoking or not, so there is nothing to rebel against.
---alan8869_of_UK on 1/7/06

Sissy ... Do you travel by car, by train or by plane, use central heating or air-conditioning? I bet you do. And by doing so, you contribute to the pollution that is destroying the whole planet. Your refusal to give up these things should amount in your estimation, to rebellion.
---alan8869_of_UK on 1/7/06

Sissy ... yes, as you say "The bible does not say smoking cigarettes is a sin. The bible DOES say homosexuality is a sin. The bible does say that rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft. It also says that the scripture is not up for private interpretation" So who are you privately to interpret that that smoking is a sin? You cannot deny that you say continuing to smoke is a sin... ergo, smoking must be a sin.

You guys are jumping on poor Sissy for stuff she never said. You need to go back and read her comments again. All she is trying to say is that some people smoke and will not give it up for anything, even though it is stealing thier health, and that's not pleasing to God. I have to agree with her on it. I don't see where you all get "everyone who smokes is going to hell" out of what she has said.
---Molly on 1/7/06

Mat, can you read? If so, will you please go back and read ALL of my comments and notice that I....1. NEVER said EVERYONE who smokes is living in rebellion, 2. NEVER claimed to be God, 3. NEVER indicated I didn't love others, OR myself, 4. NEVER condemmed anyone to hell for smoking. The word of God has already judged and condemmed people who are rebellious to God's will for their lives, I had nothing to do with it. Don't get all riled up at me just 'cause I pointed it out
---Sissy on 1/7/06

Quote from Molly: ...."and the most important thing is, IF and when I do break one of these, or any other commandment, I ask the Lord to forgive me, because I want nothing to stand between me and him. I'm not perfect, never claimed to be."

quote from Willow: "you stated you dont sin"

Uh, did anyone ELSE read words in my comments that I DID NOT post?!
---Sissy on 1/7/06

You aren't saying smoking is sin, but rebellion is. If one smokes, he's living in rebellion??? Who made you God? You need to love your neighbor as your yourself. No! I take that back. Learn to love yourself first, then you can love your neighbor properly, and quit condeming people to hell who don't think like you do! It's not what goes into your mouth that defiles a man, but that which come out defiles a man. Now I wonder Who said that?

SO, once again, I NEVER SAID SMOKING WAS A SIN, or that the bible said it was. I SAID that a lot of "Christians" smoke willingly, refuse to give it up, and defiantly say no to a God who desires to deliver them of a FILTHY, DEADLY bondage, and that is rebellion which IS mentioned over and over in the word, and anyone who is rebellious to God and His will for their lives are going straight to hell, of their own choice and stupidity. I did not say it, the word says it- so argue with God.
