If a person walks in the spirit then they won't fulfill the things of the flesh. Being led by the spirit is letting God in control of your life. Doing what he wants you to do and not what the flesh wants to do. Gal 5:16-26. talks on walking in the spirit and being led by the spirit. Hope this helps.

Follow Jesus in every major decision.

Matt 4:1 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.

Lk 4:1 Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost . . . was led by the Spirit . . .

Rom 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, are the sons of God.

Gal 5:18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.

Surrendering to the inward urgings of the Holy Spirit is walking in the Spirit. Having the results of 1Cor 12 & Gal 5 show one being led of the Spirit.

PART ONE:
Cazylemonman,

You find this expression in Galatians chapter 5 where Paul contrasts walking in the Spirit with fulfilling the lust of the flesh. This is similar to his teaching to the Romans where he talks about being set free from the law of sin and death. In other words, before we were Christians, we were obliged to sin to serve our sin nature but as Christians, with the Spirit of God living in us,

PART TWO:
we are no longer obliged to sin rather we now have the God given power to resist sin because of the presence of the Holy Spirit in us. Galatians 5:16, "This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh."

So, where once our lifestyle was to sin (walk in the flesh), now our life style is to not sin (walk in the Spirit). But Paul puts it before us as a matter of choice:

PART THREE:
Romans 6:11, 17, 18 "Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness."
(reckon comes from the Greek word meaning; to take into account, or to purpose, determine, decide.

PART FOUR:
So I say to my self, Self, you are no longer a slave to your sin nature live accordingly

Make no mistake about it, sin is always a CHOICE. We may say, oh but I. (fill in your own favorite excuse) but 1 Corinthians 10:13, "There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able;

PART FIVE:
but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it."

So, walking in the Spirit is living a life of righteousness instead of sin, BY THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT. Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me."

Hearing from the Spirit and then doing what you hear is "walking" in the Spirit. Failture comes from listening and not obeying. The Spirit is real soft (interfeeling) we need to be still before the LORD.---mima 12/19/2005
