Could be secret believers. Especially in countries and areas where there is great persecution for being a Christian. If you are not in danger of great persecution. I think we should speak out for Christ whenever we can. Share the gospel whenever we can and to whom will listen.

We speak in behalf of those who cannot speak of their faith yet. Sometimes we don't even have to speak, our lives are a testament of our faith. Action speaks louder than words.

I had a terrible childhood (severely dysfunctional family) and was constantly ridiculed by family and friends. I grew up with low self esteem and didn't know how to approach people to make friends. Jesus knows where you are at in your life, He understands and will not crush you. Let The Lord's spirit teach you. When He wants you to do more than you can right now, He'll let you know through your conscience, but for now, develop a strong, intimate relationship with Him (and let Him have one with YOU).

I thought about that Mima, but that was before Jesus went to heaven and sent back His holy Spirit. Peter for one became a dynamite witness for Jesus after he receive the person of the holy Spirit. [Baptism.]

mima, let us study to show ourselves approved. The witness of Mark says that Joseph was NOT secret, but went BOLDLY UP TO PILATE (Mk.15:43). Gk: kekrummenos= reserved. lit.Gk: "Thereupon after this Joseph of Arimathais from being disciple of Jesus asked of Pilate, but reserved because of the fear of Judaion therefrom, of that body of Jesus, and permitted he Pilate." John 19:38.

Someone said there is no such thing as a secret believer but the Bible says,
"And after this Joseph of Arimathaea, being a disciple of Jesus, but SECRETLY for fear of the Jews, besought Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus: and Pilate gave him leave. He came therefore, and took the body of Jesus."

Perhaps you can be a secret believer but you shouldn't be. 2 Corinthians 5:17-19.

I am going to have to say, no I don't. We are saved to be God's witnesses. When you are saved you want to tell someone and then everyone. But no one understands is the problem.

I don't believe you can keep salvation a secret. you will have to tell others. You won't be able to help yourself.

What do you have to be ashamed of? If you do not acknowlege Jesus here on earth you will be denied in heaven. Surely, you do not want that. He also tells us to not hide our talents, gifts under a bushel. We are to be shining lights of examples to others.Salt of the earth. We are to lead others to Christ. You cannot do that hidden away in secret. Stand up and be counted for Christ. He is the best thing that will ever happen to you.

No, hiding your light under a bushel is sin.

There is no such thing as a secret believer. Jesus says that if we do not confess Him to men, they He will deny us before the Father. You can be sure that if a person does not want to talk about their beliefs, then they are not born-again.

While in China after witnessing to a fellow schoolteacher, she readily received the Lord Jesus Christ by prayer for the salvation of her soul. Upon completion of the prayer she said to me can we please keep this secret? Yes, I said, I guess we can. Joseph of Arimathaea was a secret believer. John 19:38 "And after this Joseph of Arimathaea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews". She then said, my husband is a captain in the communist army. Enough said.

Matthew 10:32-33, "Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven."

Now, denying is not necessarily the same as not saying anything.

Is it?

In this country, (USA) can't see why this type of secret is needed. The only reason I know of is if they want to live a lifestyle that isn't going to reflect Christ. I even know of Jewish Christians who were completley rejected by their families because of their belief in Christ - but to the convert, it was worth it. The final judgement will be up to God, but I can be a "fruit inspector" and if I don't see the "fruit of Spirit", I'd wonder if they are Christians or not.

Try putting a lit candle under a bushel basket! It will catch fire..Everyone can see it..Share your beliefs, be the light in the darkness..There is nothing that secret that shall not be revealed.
---Lynn on 1/14/06

mima I can't when I don't speak about Jesus I feel like my bones are on fire.
don't be afraid.
---willow on 1/13/06

We are told to let our light shine and not to hide it under a bushel. The implication is clear, let it be known that you are child of God and share the Good News with as many as you come in contact with BUT be sure that you are tactful in the way yu do it! P.

Either you are salt and light or sour and dark. Your fruits will demonstrate whether you accept Christ as Lord of your life. Your life will reflect Christ as Lord or satan as ruler of your life.

An old saying I once heard is very true..."Witness for Jesus often, use words when neccesary" -I believe if you have been truly touched and changed by the blood of Jesus, you couldn't keep it a secret if you tried- even if you DIDN'T ever open your mouth
---Molly on 1/12/06

Can you have a secret marriage? There are others that will know.
Not everyone has as big a mouth as I do and not all are as free speaking as I am.
Somewhere at sometime a real Christian will let another know if they live long enough.
---Eler on 1/12/06

No, because if Jesus is in someone's heart, the first thing they want to do is show it by witnessing to others. Jesus can't work in a person if they never show him through themselves.
---Rebecca_D on 1/12/06

One would only keep Jesus a secret if they were embarassed or ashamed to be connected with him. Mark 8:38 or Luke 9:26 have the answer for that. I know many in nations where they torture and kill christians, who still do not hide their faith. Why would we hide ours when we live where we are free to do so. For I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God unto salvation.
