Once again.. NOONE has said that God doesnt reveal His Son to us and give us to opportunity to place our faith in Jesus Christ.
Where we disagree is that Calvinists believe God doesnt offer every man that chance.
You refuse to believe God gives everyone that chance because you dont believe man can resist the Holy Spirit even though the Bible has thousands of scriptures teaching us NOT to do this very thing.
Hell is for the disobedient. Not those who werent in control of their own actions.
God is just. If we burn its because we have rejected his law AND his grace.

Peter did indeed have a revelation of who Jesus was. Even the demons called Him the Son of God though. One called Him the Son of the Most High God. Peter missed it though when he rebuked Jesus for speaking of His passion. Jesus then called him "satan". He went from "rock" to "satan" in a breath because he would never understand how Jesus could call him "rock" apart from receiving His death, burial, & resurrection. There are many who know who He is but lack a revelation of what He came to do. The end result is a people who don't have a clue who they are in Christ, who Christ is in them, nor of the authority given to them in the earth. They still call themselves sinners instead of saints.
---Samuel on 12/1/10|
Now that you stated the passage, you still do not understand it. He love us in order that we love Him. If He didn't love us first, we would never love Him. It was because of His love for us, that we even know anything about Him.
"He said to them, 'But who do you say that I am?" Simon Peter replied, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God" And Jesus answered him, "Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jona" "For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven" Matt. 16:15-17. Cannot get any better then that.

//Another statement with no Scripture but which seems to be true,
No one will love a god that they dont believe loves them//
Of course it has a scripture.
We love him because he first loved us
You dont just magically love someone unless you believe they love you first. How do we know God loves us first? We believe in the gospel of Jesus Christ because that is what proves Gods love for us.
A love for God before believing the gospel of Christ? Ive never read that in my Bible

Another statement with no Scripture but which seems to be true,
No one will love a god that they dont believe loves them."
Only believers by faith know God loves them. The lost don't know of the love of God because they don't believe in God. And will never love God, no matter how many times they hear the gospel Truth, unless God changes their hearts and puts the love of Christ in their hearts when He brings them alive with Christ. Once they get the love of God in their hearts from God, they will love Christ no matter what man says. Because they will know the real Truth and that Truth will set them free from the slavery of sin, which includes anything not of faith.

Catherine, great answer you gave. You see, you do not have to say other words to make anyone believe, only the Truth is valid. God says it will not return to Him void. It will accomplish His purpose and will. Not by man's will are efforts, but by God.
"In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will,"
He predestined us according to the counsel of His will, not because of our free will. And because of Him because of the riches of His grace which He made to abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence, having made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure."

NO HOPE FOR THE WICKED MAN, without Jesus and His Blood. The new birth....AhhhJesus."He who believes in God's Son, through the new birth, is not judged guilty or condemned. But, those who have not believed in God's Son because he has not received the new birth, there is no hope for you. You have already been judged and found guilty [condemned] to everlasting fires of hell". [John 3:18. I rest my case. Hallelujah. Thank You Jesus+

Ma'am blow the dust off of that Bible and start reading it. Theres no possible way you could have read the Bible and still ask a question like this.

Then came Isaiah the prophet unto king Hezekiah, saying, "What said these men? and from whence came they unto thee?" And Hezekiah said, "From distant away Babylon".
Then said he, "What have they seen in thine house?" And Hezekiah answered, "Everything I own, all my priceless treasures".
Then Isaiah said to him, "Hear the word of the LORD of hosts:"
"Behold, the days come, that all that is in thine house, and that which your fathers have laid up in store until this day, shall be carried to Babylon: nothing shall be left, saith the LORD. And some of your sons shall they take away to be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon".
Hezekiahs PRIDE was the issue here!

JackB, JackB, Where did you get such a notion that God chooses some to bring hope to the wicked man. The truth is, there is no hope for the lost man. We, God's people, are suppose to preach the truth.... There is a God, there is a hell, there is a devil, and he wants your souls, and there is a heaven.

// Those who hate the truth are the dogs and the swine.
How dare you. That does NOT apply to ALL men who hate the "truth". Some people havent been given the truth because it was never taught to them in love. Instead theyve been given a twisted version of the "truth" that LEAVES them an enemy of God in their own minds. Noone will love a god that they dont believe loves them.
When you teach people that Jesus didnt die for all men you put this poison in their souls.
Teach it right, Mark. You werent saved to bring praise to yourself for being picked by God, you were picked to spread the gospel and give hope to men. The message you bring does not give hope, it destroys it.

This principle is to be done in respect for what is holy, not merely out of contempt for the dogs and swine
Excellent point! The emphasis is not on the deplorable nature of swine (or dogs) but on not laying our precious holy pearls out for them to trample. It is not only wasted effort, but encourages more attacks upon the truth. Usually they DO "turn again and rend you" which they (and possibly others) think gives them credibility.
---Donna66 on 11/29/10|
This principle governs how one handles the gospel in the face of those who hate the truth. Those who hate the truth are the dogs and the swine.
We are called not to give what is holy to the dogs nor cast our pearls before swine. This principle is why Jesus Himself did not do miracles for unbelievers (13:58)which reads, "Now He did not do many mighty works there because of their unbelief" This principle is to be done in respect for what is holy, not merely out of contempt for the dogs and swine.
"Ask, and it shall be given to you, seek, and you will find, knock, and it will be open to you" Believers are the only one's who knock and who seek after God, and what they ask, it shall be given to them.

Scripture shows us Christ is the Word and Pearl of great price.
It shows us that the swine returns to it's wallowing in the mire.
It shows us that dogs return to their vomit.
Christ said those neither hot nor cold he would spew out. (vomit)
We are not to take the word of God or the precious things of Christ and cast them before those who were one saved and walked away. (Those once cleansed and returning to their vomit or mire or filthy state)
Just one of a few meanings.

When you cant believe or refuse to believe the truth of god word.
Its not that you want to refuse it, its just that you can believe it.
Either you are not ready or you cant understand how this can be.
(But, in my mind, you really are refusing to believe it.)
I know he will forgive me. Because I asked him, I believe in him.
But, why wont he forgive him, instead of understanding the truth.
This is the same as saying I believe and not believing.
And yes I do know some of you. Im just like you!
Rom 3:3 For what if some did not believe? shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect?
You tell me!

Jesus uses the same illustration in Matt 15, responding to the Canaanite woman only after she portrays herself as a dog, seeking the crumbs, which was the case for a Gentile in the earthly ministry of Christ, truly salvation was of the Jews and only came by adhering to Jewish law.

Thank you, JackB. Evidence always trumps theory and a man with an experience is never at the mercy of a man with an argument. A problem arises when the experience isn't consistent with the belief. That is why no man can tell me my God is not Jehovah-Rapha. My experience is as consistent as my doctrine.

That verse has brought about more abuse than any in scripture. First the Jews used it in referencing Gentiles, since Gentiles were called dogs.
Then the Church (those smug churches who think THEY are the only ones saved, where only God saves certin people and everyone else is a dog, who wear T-Shirts that say NO CHOICE and boycott revivals.
How do you know it doesn't mean not letting anyone take the Lord supper you know are not saved.
God's word is NOT CALLED OUR Pearls to begin with!

My atheist witch friend was considered a swine by someone here. He considered the power of satan more than that of the Lord. If I had stopped casting the pearls before her she never would have turned to Jesus Christ. You cant preach the gospel without using the fruit of the Spirit to do it. It will not affect affect people if you try it that way.
There comes a time when Im witness to people that God always tells me when its time to back off of them and let them think for a while and dwell on the things He has spoken thru me.
It took almost 2 weeks of talking to my friend before she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior. We can never be too quick to judge who we think the 'swine' are.

First of all I have been guilty of doing this, more when I first started witnessing then today.
I believe it has to do with,"Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, "and I believe this is talking about the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Occasionally when I witnessing I will start to witness to someone and the Holy Spirit will tell me, not this one. Often times I tell my fellow workers about this at which time they invariably run over and start witnessing to the person only to receive rudeness and total rejection.

Paul tells us that we do suffer much CONTENTION as we share the gospel with the lost. WE suffer for preaching the Gospel to the lost. We don't suffer because we are disobeying God and casting our pearls before swine....remember WE WERE ALL SWINE once.
Matthew 7 verse 6 is the summary of teh verses before, passing judgement when we have an oak tree of our own to deal with.
Paul gloried in his afflictions to bring the Gospel to the swine of the earth.

Pearls, as precious as they are, are produced from seafood that is not kosher.
Therefore, I think what Jesus is saying is be careful with the precious things that you do not fully appreciate or understand. The verse is preceded by a verse that says the same thing in a different way.
Donna66, as far as sharing verse after verse, the sword of the Spirit is usually served best with the fruit of the Spirit. On this site, there is a lot of careless sword play without the fruit served.

Donna66, I completely agree with you, for I see what it does around here. But I believe those verses are more worthy when a person goes out to witness in person. The reason I say that, is that here on line, we are not trying to convince anyone, at least not me, of the Truth. I just give it and it's up to God from there on. I believe it is very helpful to answer because many others, (not the one you are answering) are out there and it could be that God wants to reveal something new to someone and when they read what you say, they look for themselves and the light comes on, on a particular verse they misunderstood before. The one you are answering will never admit they are wrong. Very seldom do you hear someone admit that. Pride in their theology.

Scripture can only mean this>>>"Thou hypocrite" is the only statement that can be made for this play actor who pretends to be a physician when he himself is sick. His concern to criticize and reform others is marred by uncritical complacency as to his own life....The dogs and swine refers to those who have deliberately rejected the message of truth. These particular animals the dogs and the swines were especially repulsive to Jesus' audience. Now, don't tell me that sweeeet Jesus at times didn't feel repulsive. Jesus, I wonder what would happen if I started calling some people, dogs and swines?
---catherine on 11/24/10|
I agree with John. There are times we break our necks trying to make someone understand/accept the Gospel when they are not interested at all!
There are people, non-Christians, (atheists frequently fall into this category) who just love to argue about "religion". They ask multiple questions...NOT because they want an ANSWER, but because they want to put Christians on the defense or make them look foolish. (We've had a few on this site from time to time)
If we continue trying to persuade them, give them scripture after scripture, we are "casting pearls before swine".
And they are enjoying their game.
---Donna66 on 11/23/10|
I personally believe this passage refers to a "to each their own convictions" perspective. For example, we both hear a sermon about holy living. We both smoke cigarettes. The sermon put me under conviction that I would be a better witness to the veracity of the workings of the Holy Spirit in my life if I didn't smoke. The sermon didn't put you under that same conviction. So, I quit smoking but you don't. It's not my place to judge you with a revelation that pertains to me, nor is it wise to share my "revelation" with people who will not only care less about this revelation, but will even try to argue against it. To live by "to each their own convictions" will lead to a non-judgmental lifestyle.
---Susan on 11/23/10|
I think that Jesus was equating 'that which is holy' to precious items such as 'pearls', and tells us that these things should be protected or safegarded against things that might cause us to lose them. A dog, though cute and precious to his owner, simply lacks the intelligence to protect that which is reverent. Like wise, no one would dare to drop pearls of value before pigs in their dirty sty, as these would certainly be lost. Finally, he cautions that the believer might possibly instigate an action from one unworthy/unready which could hinder ones own growth in learning of the Lord. I would say that these scriptures do NOT particularly define dogs or swine as evil in nature, though this could be misinterpreted.
---Jeremy on 4/16/09|
Holy = things set apart for the Christian. Dogs = wild dogs like wolves, vicious animals in contrast to lambs. Pearls = bright and lustrous. the deep things of God understood as a result of your walk with God.
Swine = greedy, ravenous animals (or people) who only want to be continously fed, and will turn on you if they do not get what they want. They would die in a lush pasture, whereas a sheep would fatten.
---John on 8/18/07|
I believe this verse is meant to teach us that we should not waste our time trying to feed the Gospel or the deep things of God to those who are not ready or willing to receive them. Pray and let God lead you into situations that are favorable for the leading of the lost into salvation. The preaching of the gospel can not be heard by those with closed ears or closed minds who have not been prepared by the Holy Spirit to receive them.
---John on 8/18/07|
Many refer to those as the unbelieving but the word says the dog returns to it's vomit and the swine to it's mire. I see it clearly as those who were washed but returned, or went back to sin and perdition. Those who lose their salvation having once known and now impossible to renew having brought Christ to an open shame.
---Frank on 5/28/07|
LOL! I should think that THAT scripture would be self-explanatory on THIS website!
Another one that goes hand in hand with it in this case is Matt 10:14 "And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet"

'dogs', 'swine', reprobate mind. When man refuses to Glorify and Thank God, this is first downward step. Second, will then begin to bow before images, idols. When you worship idols, beasts, you will become lower than the Beast. Third step, reprobate mind - filled with unrighteousness; vices, envy, murder, deceit, pride, backbiting, haters of God. The reprobate mind bears all the fruits of sin and becomes totally corrupt. This is what causes a man to join himself with a beast.
---Shiela on 11/9/06|
That is an excellent additional interpretation of the meaning of "pearls". Pearls=Wisdom In which case, if you cast your pearls of Wisdom to fools who lack understanding, it would be a waste of words.
---Reiter on 11/9/06|
I think the other bloggers are interesting. But with all respect I disagree w/some-I think the "pearls" mean that which is precious to you such as wisdom. If a person is not ready or open to hear the salvation message it is like casting precious pearls before a pig, it means nothing to the pig and U have now wasted it. Teaching us to wait for the Holy Spirit to lead us to witness. I agree w/Helen & never heard the other views. Oh if it is chasity that would mean all not just gals.

This is also talking about the reprobate mind.

The pearls are pearls of chastity. A woman who gives her body up to whoever and whenever is casting her pearls away to those who are unworthy of her. She doesn't perceive her true value and has low self worth so she wastes her pearls on pigs. [This is only one interpretation but pearls can mean more.]

"One correcting a scoffer takes to himself shame: and one advising the wicked, himself a blemish. Do not advise a scoffer, else he hate you: advise a wise one, and he will love you." Proverbs 9:7,8. for cast pearls to the swine --if one has a knowledge and wisdom of truth that knowingly others dont have of truth that is far above the current wisdom of the current age one will overload the student truth seeker who may be a beginner or even an advanced teacher.many claim to know truth but many have little candles.a wise one must spoon feed the the listner or friendly fire will ensue thereafter.truth advanced mortals will read the person to tell if they are spiritually unconcerned.

Witnessing one on one, or one on two, or three, and all are openly hostile? Do not present the Gospel. The seed will be wasted on stony ground, or worse... The "birds of the air," and all that.
Another example of casting ones pearls before swine could also be construed as refusing someone who shows no evidence of salvation to partake of Holy Communion, especially since the wine and bread are symbols of the Holy blood and flesh of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
---ELAshley on 6/2/06|
I would say presenting the Gospel to openly hostle people would be casting ones pearls before swine-- there are of course exceptions. For example; while witnessing publicly to a crowd, where a few are heckling and mocking. To NOT present the Gospel in such an instance is not a smart move as there are other people in the crowd who ARE listening. Besides which, we are only commanded to preach the Gospel... The Holy Spirit will do the rest, for God has promised, His word will not return void.
---ELAshley on 6/2/06|
God,Jesus, and the spirit are holy. The dog returns to it's own vomit. Dogs in Psalm 22 gathered around the cross.(pharisees,holier-than thou by their works) The swine return to their wallowing in the mire. These are the ones that in a sense the unclean spirits return to. Remember Jesus cast Legion into the swine. They were choked in the sea. Those who once knew and discarded salvation.
