God said all priests and Levites and all articles of the temple are to be set apart. Kings, and prophets too, and others who were going into special ministry. It was poured on the head. We are not taught that pouring is the only way but it's the only way we see by example. Hands were laid on them and they were washed (baptized). N.T shows Jesus and disciples anointing with prayer for healing and James 5 instructs the elders of the church to use it to heal the sick. |

I disagree. To anoint with oil is for today. Anoint has one 'n'.
It is not just tradition. It is very scriptural as in James 5:14, "Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:" ---Bruce5656 on 1/9/07 |

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 1 Peter 2:8-10 (in Context) 1 Peter 2 (Whole Chapter) |

John, that oil mixture was to be used only on Prophets, Priests, Kings, Holy vessels ,and the Tabernacle. In fact there is a warning against using it on anyone else, Exodus 30:22-38. It is a Holy Mixture for Holy Purposes and there is a warning if anyone else makes or uses it on anyone not according to God's orders, they shall be cut off. In other Words we aren't to copy or use it now. It isn't for this time. |

Our prayer group occasionally annoint each other when we part or when someone is having a very bad time in their lives. We do this as a physical reminder of the annointing God has on their lives. We annoint on the forehead. We do also annoint on the feet before we dance as we do worship dancing. |

The oil in anointing oil is Olive oil but God said in Ex.30 to mix the olive oil with calamus, casia, cinnamon, and myrhh. Using only olive oil is not following instructions. Olive oil gets rancid and stinky in a short time without the spices in it. |

Olives are prevalent on the Mount of Olives east of Jerusalem, therefore olive oil was commonly used. Olive oil oxidizes rather quickly, so I personally make my own blessing oil with moringa (also called behen oil, thought to be the tree in Exodus 15:22-27) and caraway, and then I pray to the Father to bless it. When I anoint a person I will pray over them in Jesus' name for their healing, or for whatever purpose that they are being anointed for. |

I use Olive Oil. I put a little dab on my fingers, and I touch a person't forhead with it. And I began to pray in the name of Jesus. |

What kind of oil is used in annointing someone and how is it usually done? |

I had cellulitis around my ankle that wouldn't heal. Went to my spiritual mom, she annointed the area around my ankle and she and her daughter laid hands on the ankle and prayed for a healing. Guess what? After five 5 day hospital stay, physical therapy, etc. my infection only began to heal after the annointing. |

I don't know if there is a correct or incorrect way to annoint someone. I have been annointed just once, for healing. It was performed by a prayer partner (not a minister or elder). I was asked to place my hand over the area of my body that needed healing and the oil was applied to the back of that hand. I think this was a way of protecting my modesty so that I didn't need to remove any clothing. I think it must have been an acceptable way because God answered the prayers. |

For healing, and also used to consecrate a person for a particular service, or to fortify and empower a person against demonic forces and oppression, or to sanctify a person from sin and commit or recommit him in the Lord. Usually with the forefinger the person's forehead is anointed in a downward stroke. Although i have witnessed musicians anoint each others hands in church before they played their musical instruments of guitars and drums and horns. That was a blessing. |

Whenever there is a need. It depends on the situation. I anoint a person's head. But if a person is sick in body, like say their feet are hurting, I anoint their feet. But if a sickness is somewhere else on the body, that we shouldn't touch, I anoint the head. I don't anoint men, I let my husband do that, and I hold out my hand toward that person. Jealously spirit's are everywhere. |
