Explain Zechariah 4:2-14

Does Zechariah 4:2-14 allude to the fact that Joshua and Zerubbable could be that two witnesses of Revelation? I have just encountered this idea and I have never heard of this before.

Who ever the two witnesses are , they live on by the blood of their ancestors . Their forfathers were probably Joshuah and Zerrubable . That is probably how they live on to this day, they have the same blood. The word to Zruavel not by force not by power but by my spirit.

Moses is dead. God buried Moses Himself in a valley in the land of Moab, over against Bethpeor: but no man knows of his sepulchre so that no one will dig him back up and worship him.

Trying to guess who the two witnesses are is frivolous. Trying to say it is this person or it is that person does not unite Christians, but divides them. This debate has been going on since Revelation was revealed, for over 1800 years. And men STILL don't know who the witnesses are. You would figure that over 1800 years someone would know, but they don't. But we will know soon enough when they will appear as the signs are now being shown that the end is near even at the doorstep.

Ulrika: you're right. The two witnesses will be Enoch and Elijah.
---Rebecca_D on 4/22/07

I guess the two witnesses are Enoch (Genesis 5:24, Hebrews 11:5) and Elijah (2Kings 2:11), because they did not die. Hebrews 9:27
---Ulrika on 4/22/07

As you read Rev 11:3, God refers to them as My two witnesses, and "they" will prophesy,,,,etc". You need to interpret all Scripture literally. If God wanted to give names He would have. To assume the names of anyone else is pure speculation, even though there are some comparisons to Moses and Elijah. So, we focus on what they will do to glorify God!

I think its important to note that the two witnesses are "still standing", that suggest they are still alive or haven't died. Also their proclaimations are consistent with those of Elijah's and Enoch's. 2Kin1:10, 1Kin17:1 and Jude vs 14,15. Like those two witnesses they both prophesy God's judgment.

Re 11:3These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth. candlesticks represents the two churchs, olive trees represent the fruit of the Spirit.these will be two last day churches that stand in opposition to the apostate church, one does the work of John the baptist pointing the way to Jesus, the other does the work of Christ. spirit of Elijah proves who God is- spirit of Moses leads and saves.

I'm not giving people glory. I'm telling what it says in scripture. I know God caused these things to happen, but He used these 2 men to deliver these signs unto others. Like you said, nobody knows for sure, but I have no reason to believe Enoch will be one of the two. I know scripture says that it's appointed to all men to die, but I don't think that includes those whom God translates. At the Rapture, people will be taken alive. Will they have to come back to earth and die in order to fulfill that scripture verse?

Ann, We should be careful to not give people the glory, that only God deserves. You keep saying what a great leader Moses was. His brother Aaron did his talking for him. Moses did not cause those plagues, God caused the plagues. Moses and Arron did wonders before Pharaoh, but God gave them that ability. Exodus 11:12
We do not know for sure who the witnesses will be, but I believe it will be Elijah and Enoch.
---Ulrika on 2/9/06

Ann, Where in scripture does it say Moses was raised. Moses only did what God told him. Moses raised his rod toward heaven, and God did the mighty works. That reminds me of the people who think Mary was great.
---Ulrika on 2/9/06

Look at Rev.11:5, where it talks of fire consuming those who wish to do them harm, then compare 2 Kings1:10-12, where Elijah causes fire to fall on his enemies. Also Rev.11:6, talking about stopping the rain, and compare to 1 Kings 17:1- Elizah did the same thing. Also, Ex.7:17-21 Moses brought forth the same plagues spoken about in vs 6 of Rev.11. If God wanted to send back a great leader who had already died once, He can. He's God.

Enoch walked with God for 300 + years. Enoch didn't see death, for God took him. Why would God bring Moses back from the dead just for him to die again? Enoch and Elijah has to come back so they can die, Heb 9:27.
---Rebecca_D on 2/9/06

Why would one be Enoch? He may have walked with God, and God took him, but was he a great leader of people? Did he teach great numbers of people about God? I don't think God would have someone return who was not a leader of men.
---Ann5758 on 2/7/06

No, because the two witnesses will be Enoch and Elijah. They are the only ones that didn't see death.
---Rebecca_D on 2/6/06

I believe them to be Moses & Elijah, the 2 who appeared with Christ on the Mount of Transfiguration. They spoke to Him about His mission on earth. I believe they represent the two factions of people who will be with Christ at the Rapture- those who died and were raised (Moses), and those who will not die, but are taken as they are (Elijah).
