"Did Moses, Abraham, and David need Jesus?"

Yes, and they had Him, for they had the Father's Word. Jesus is His Word made tangible. "That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life. (For the life was manifested, and we have seen an bear witness, and show unto you that eternal life, which was with the father, and was manifested unto us." 1John 1:1,2

Because Jesus said," I and the Father are one" we can plainly see that it was Jesus(God) who dealt with Moses, Abraham, and David. Did these Old Testament saints need Jesus? Yes!! And they got(had)Him.

Absolutely they needed Jesus. The yearly sacrifices of the OT just pushed the sins of the people ahead another year. This took place until the sin was pushed all the way to the cross.

I would say yes to the question. God could Not have possibily FULLFILLED his "unconditional covenant" he made with Abraham if he did not send Jesus to die for us. This is how God out smarted the devil, because Abraham was born into sin, just as you and I are. The devil knew that sin could not enter into heaven, so he thought he had won the battle, because "mankind" couldn't enter heaven from sin. Hence, Jesus was sent for ALL MANKIND, and covenant promise was kept and FULLFILLED!

Yes, in a sense, they "needed" Jesus, but, they had Him in the promise given in Genesis Ch.3, as the seed of the woman. They believed in God's promised Messiah, therefore, they believed in Jesus Christ.

l Cor. 10:1-4. Here is your answer. They all drank from the same spiritual meat. And they all drank the same spiritual drink because they drank from the rock that followed them and that rock was CHRIST. It was by faith for them as it is by faith for us.

They needed the sacrifice of Christ on their behalf as well as we. (John 14:6) All of the interaction they had with God - OT sacrifices etc. - were all a shadow (or, in theological terms, a type) of the real thing. (Heb 10:1) The only reason they were effective is because of Calvary and their faith in God to provide for their salvation. (Gal 3:6)
