Most replies i've read are exactly the reasons why non-christians I know say they aren't christians- 'views are stated as facts'. The bible is open to so much interpretation (we agree on important stuff) questions like 'is it ok to get my nose pierced?' have loads of answers. Who is any one of us to say it is ok or not?! And why are ear piercings more acceptable?! It's between the individual and God- He knows a lot more than us! :-) For me for every question you have there is one answer- Pray! Talk to The One who knows it all! :-) If any christian judges you by a small stud/ring in your nose, they're not worth knowing and should probably take a closer look at themselves.

dad on 3-22-09: your little paragraph was a gem! I took out my ear rings sometime ago and repented of piercing my ears. As it is my desire to please God,I will never mar my flesh again. It is the little things God looks at and our child-like obedience to Him! Thanks!
---Danelle on 4/6/09

I am not sure God cares if you have a piercing or not. When I read "cuttings" in flesh I take that to mean cutting yourself and mutilation.

Also, I believe it is like wearing an orange sweater as opposed to green if you look better in orange. Do we not all choose our likes and dislikes? I don't think you are "living the way of the world" if you are just doing it because you like it.

Some things are a sin and some things just don't really make any difference. God will not condemn us for wearing earrings.
---DJ on 4/5/09

Now what does society arround you asociate a nosering with?
good/bad
in some countries its a sign of slavery, in other coutries its a sign of idolworship, again other nations will concider it beautifull and worthy and other countries will concider it as anarcistic.

MIND YOU ALL, are you a testimony for Christ when you do it? or is society offzended.

To the poster who asked me about my motivation to take my nose peircing out let me be clear...

I had nose rings that when they would come out (like when washing my face ect) I would almost get obsessed with having to get a replacement before it closed. The feeling I had without it was almost as if I wasn't complete without it. Like some feel they aren't without their favorite peice of jewelry or something. I decided anything that important that has nothing to do with God should be removed. It's the battle of my flesh. Now I don't think it's in sin to have one, but it's even sinful to put your wife above God. So yeah, the nose ring had to go.

when you become a christian, you will know and understand God's standards and you will freely apply it in your life..it will take time for some to follow God's ways and it will take time for some to leave worldy ways behind..once you get it, you would wonder why you wanted to do it in the first place..have patience friend..continue to seek Him daily
---dad on 3/22/09

Robyn- God does not want Christians to compromise with the world. Christians are called out from the world not to be mean or harsh towards others, but to show them the way Jesus Christ would have us live. God meant for it to be a plain difference between His people and pagans. They were supposed to be different spiritually, in action, and in looks. No cuttings, no piercings, etc.
---BettyW on 3/22/09

Christianity is a process and I'm pleased you have equated piercings to vanity. However all piercings are vanity it matters not about those who argue this issue to the ground. It is not required that you use your body for ornamental purposes then draw a line where ever your own boundary sits.

If you read the bible you will read that God dislikes tattoo's and piercings. All things are there but you should not be bought under the power of any you are an example To and Of Christ.

The Bible said young men I have called you because you are strong, be an example of that strength and send the devil and his influences packing!

William,
Hi. I just want to ask you one question. What has the Lord put on your heart to do in regard to your nose piercing? Let me remind you that the Old Testament was under the law. The New Testament is all about grace. Our righteousness isn't from works. It's about receiving Jesus and allowing him to change us from the inside out. Not about setting up rules and regulations and living up to the shoulds, oughts, and musts of those around you. If this is a conviction he has put on your heart to change, be obedient. If it comes from anyone elses value judgement on your appearance then it's not the Spirit of grace and love behind it. Only people motivated by a religious spirit will be focused on external appearance.
God Bless,
Zoe
---Zoe on 3/20/09

After reading these things I did take my nose ring out. Because the reasons I put it in was because I thought it would make me look "cuter" or "sexy." And those automatically raise red flags if you study the word and are in the process of turning your life over to God. I wear a Gold ear ring because it was a birthday present which I see nothing wrong with wearing. It was a gift and I don't feel i've defiled my body for getting an ear ring. God knows my heart and he knows I did not attempt to defile myself when I got ear peircings in. the Nose ring was completely selfish so I understand the sin in that.

Dear Michael: Leave the fingerpointing and judgement to others. We as christians must remember the same people we are avoiding and trying to act so different for, may be the same people who will come to our aid, when other(christians) won't and can't. We need to share the gospel with others. Not push people away or make them avoid us.
I don't run people away from me by pretending to be so different that we cannot get along or compromise.
We (christians) have to find the balance.
---Robyn on 1/10/09

There is something rather horrid in which this blog has become. The body is God's, we are told in Leviticus 19:16-19 or so (which i know is the old testament but hey straight after the verse about tattoos and piecings it says we are not to prostitute our daughters, i think thats relevant hey.) To say it is okay to pierce your body because you take the ring out and it heals, so does that mean it never happened? No. What we are to do is to prayerfully seek God, and know that we are to not conform to society. Israel was to be Holy, and set apart, and we as christians are also called to be Holy and set apart. How can you witness a Jesus who calls us to be different when you are the same as those around you.
---Michael on 1/8/09

Here is what the Lord says (continued):

28 You shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor tattoo any marks on you: I am the LORD.
Leviticus 19:28

19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? 20 For you were bought at a price, therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are Gods.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20
---Albany on 12/10/08

This is what the Lord says:

15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life is not of the Father but is of the world.
1 John 2:15-16

You don't even want to give the impression that you are participating in worldy behaviors. When I see people who say they are Christians, but dress like the world, and listen to worldy music, I think it is a bad example, and it is dicouraging.

We need to stand in God's power and reject the ways of the world. This can only be accomplshed by continuing to seek God and his will through prayer and reading his Word.
---Albany on 12/10/08

I don't see why you can not do so. According to scripture, I see nothing that says we cannot. But the most important question is: why would you want to pierce yourself like this? Studs in the nose, lips, tongue, eyebrow and bellybuttons are not very attractive. We should not want to do anything that distracts from our beauty. I might consider having my belly button pierced. That's it! It would be hidden and no one would see it. Visible piercings, other than ears, I would not.
---Robyn on 12/10/08

No..........

if you are called by Christ you should not be adorning your body with jewelry through your nose your not a bull and If you do these things you will regret it once you read about spirituality against things of the flesh in 1Corinthians.

people can do as they like but you can read from the last statement that his/her salvation has not matured to the place where it needs to be when caring for souls.

well, i am getting my nose pierced, and i mean, what harm will it do? you can take it out and it willl heal, it's not a permanent thing you can regret, and does God actually say in the bible not to pierce ourselves?
sure we are gods temple, and wearing jewelry in your nose isn't going to change that, and a piercing is just adding to our beautiful appearance, not transforming it. Does god knock down people with piercings? of course not, and i am sure if he didn't want us piercing our bodies he would convict us, ad so far he hasn't done that to me.

Try asking your friends help you to lobby the government To:

replace prayer in the schools,

allow you to witness on the streets without going to jail.

Or even ask your friends/unsaved to accompany you to Church get saved and then baptised.

Is anyone going to follow you?

So why ARE YOU following them?

We are called out of the world not INTO it.

Ezekiel 16:8-
8 I sware unto thee, and entered into a covenant with thee, saith the Lord GOD, and thou becamest mine.
Then washed I thee with water, I throughly washed away thy blood from thee, and I anointed thee with oil.

11 I decked thee also with ornaments, and I put bracelets upon thy hands, and a chain on thy neck.

12And I put a jewel on thy forehead, and earrings in thine ears, and a beautiful crown upon thine head.

13Thus wast thou decked with gold and silver, and thy raiment was of fine linen, and silk, and broidered work, thou didst eat fine flour, and honey, and oil: and thou wast exceeding beautiful, and thou didst prosper into a kingdom.

bob, I think for a Christian it shouldn't be "all about you, what you want to do", but instead "all about God, what He wants you to do."

Also, getting your nose pierced is not forever, it's not a tattoo. Piercings usually leave virtually no mark at all when removed and healed.

For the record, I am against getting piercings, tattoos, etc.

Let your adornment not be outward adornment of plaiting hair, wearing gold, putting on fine apparel, rather let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit.
---Todd1 on 7/1/08

ok if you get a your nose done its you its all about you its what you want to do take time and think about it because its going to be there forever also god made us all differently and if we want to express ourselves and get your nose done go ahead he would still love you.
---bob on 6/30/08

The question is, is there a good reason to have one's nose pierced? For instance, if nose piercing is a cultural norm for an ethnic group, then not piercing would make one stick out, and that would be immodest.

But for those who don't have a good reason (and for those who are old enough that it looks absurd), I'd stick to ears only.
---Nancy on 6/30/08

The problem is, how is she gonna look credible for what she speaks of God to others. I find these passages quite relevant, Galatians 4:13,14, Paul says, " Ye know how through infirmity of the flesh (this could be the piercing) I preached the gospel unto you at first and my temptation was in my flesh( could be the piercing) ye departed me not, nor rejected me but received me as an angel of God" This is all hypothetically speaking of course on my part. I believe if people are over looking the piercing and accepting it then don't worry with it. I wouldn't wear one beacause 1 Thessalonians says to "abstain from all appearance of evil" Most people think piercings other than in the ear lobes are tacky or an unjust lifestyle.

KMeadows: "You should be more concerned with souls than thinking a piercing is connected to the soul."

We are - YOURS.

What was in your heart when you first decided to defile your body with piercings? Why did you get piercings in the first place? Why do you continue to defile God's temple?

And the people said "didn't we cast our demons in your name, etc. etc. But how did Jesus respond?
---Steveng on 6/19/08

K meadows

You are not familiar with bible teachings and as Steveng, rightly said you are to be Christ like.

The trouble with the people today is they think grace means (do as I do Time) But God calls us to be Holy and not to cause the church to rebel. If we cannot agree on the word then where do you think we are going? Satan rebelled and lost his place in heaven Hence you have the word of God to teach you Gods will for your life and to enter the kingdom of heaven means a complete turn around of your life. we are called to come out from amongst them not join them.
---Carla5754 on 6/19/08

There are Christians, then there are people who just go through the motions. God saved me out of a miry pit and I thank Him for that, not man. I am thankful that "man" is not my God. I know you probably mean well, and you think you know best and you might even think you have the right or authority to judge, but....read John 7:24. Righteous judgement is not according to appearance. I will be obedient to God in that this will be my last post on this subject. I will pray for all of you. You should be more concerned with souls than thinking a piercing is connected to the soul. We are not under a taskmaster, learn about what REAL salvation is. God Bless all of you.
---KMeadows on 6/19/08

there are christians and then there are christians. Steveng appears to be correct in that it is NOT wrong to judge others since we also want to be judged. Bottom line is that you MUST please God, not man. So, my counsel would be not to 'tempt' God by attempting to destroy your body with junk like piercing and tattoos. This question whould not have been asked IF people would study the entire bible, not just 'cut and paste' (pick what you want and throw away the rest).

Anyone "can" do anything they want to including piercing, tatooing,etc... no matter if they're christian or not, but "can" shouldn't be the question. it is "Should I as a Christian do...." & the answer to that is no because it is not what GOd wants, he doesn't want us to mess up our bodies for our bodies are a sacred temple to God inside & out, but he gives us freewill so we "can" do anything we want.
---candice on 6/19/08

Thank you for more words. I will make mine fairly brief, because when God speaks He is brief. In LEVITICUS 19:28, God tells us not to put no kind of markings on us. Now this>>> I must say the sweeter some of you people sound the more like Satan you appear to be. If you believe that Jesus is really like that you are wrong. You do not know the true God.
---catherine on 6/19/08

Steven,my repsonse is with respect and love from Christ. I said we should not judge according to appearance, you took it to another level by talking about taking the sinner to the elders. Please study your word. I pray you will show the love of Christ to others, even if they do have pierced ears, or whatever else they choose to have pierced or tattooed. Remember, Steven, you are not God. How are on earth will you win others to Christ? It certainly is not by bondage, scare tactics or legalism. That is not from God. You sound like the Pharisees and the Saduccees. I will end this by repeating, "It amazes me how unlearned people are in the Word". Have a blessed day Steven, Jesus Loves You.
---KMeadows on 6/19/08

KMeadows: "One thing God does require of us is that we do not "judge" others for their appearance."

You need more bible study about judging others. If parents did what you suggest, all our children whould be feral children.

Besides, the Bible speaks of three steps to handle someone who sins: one, approach them alone and if they still sin, two, bring a witness and if they still sin, three, bring the sinner to the elders of the church.

KMeadows: "I have 6 holes in my ears & I am getting my nose pierced. Guess what???? I am still saved:) God Bless all of you. Please repent and stop throwing stones at others."

For what purpose are you defiling your body? To glorify God or to glorify yourself? Who are you trying to impress, God or people? Defiling your body is not the nature of God. What you do is up to you. To some "Christians" (who are not really Christians, but say they are) your defiled body piercing looks cool. To other Christians it's revolting. You are dividing the Christians. Is that what God wants Christians to do? Only Satan wants to divide Christians.
---Steveng on 6/18/08

Wow!! It amazes me how unleanred people are. I have been Saved for approximately 21 years. Am I perfect? No way! One thing God does require of us is that we do not "judge" others for their appearance. It is by His grace and mercy that we are saved. Start showing Christian love. Piercings and tats will not send you to hell. Not believing in God will. The law was nailed to the cross. We are under grace, not a taskmaster. Stop judging and start loving. I know the scripture in John that talks about being a righteous judge, study your word. It isn't a judgement of appearance.I serve a loving, just and forgiving God! Yes I am totally saved and sold out for Christ. I have 6 holes in my ears & I am getting my nose pierced. Guess what???? I am still saved:) God Bless all of you. Please repent and stop throwing stones at others.

misha: "they will Never change my love for God and His love for me."

In your heart, you have chosen to go against the nature of God to peirce your body. Was piercing your body glorifying God or the people around you. In your mind, you may believe that God doesn't matter, but it DOES matter to God. In your heart you are saying "look people, I have piercings and tatoos, don't I look cool?" some will say you look cook, some will turn their heads. What does your heart say?

bull have their nose pierced for a reason, Christ had his hands/feet pierced for our sins, I wouldn't want to line up for the pain he endured on the cross so don't be led astray by cults/worldly acts. You were called out of the world not led by the world!

I have my ears & navel pierced and I've wanted a nose piercing for awhile but wasent sure if it was very "christian-like" I've come to the conclusion that although I have these piercings, they will Never change my love for God and His love for me. People may judge or accept the piercings but I know its only Gods opinion that matters, not mans. If God is the most important aspect in my life and im 100% committed to Him, I dont see why He would love me any less for a stud in my nose..
---misha on 6/17/08

In this blog you are talking about body piercing. And one of you said that that you would not recommend piercing for Christians other than women piercing their ears because that is a cultural norm. But Jesus said that we are to be in the world not of it. I believe that we are not to wear anything that would draw attention to ourselves like jewelry. Our body is the Lord's temple by pearcing it it is like we are putting stuff of the world on the Lord's temple and i don't believe that that is right.

Since when does what our culture accept as normal define what God accepts (ear piercing) and what our culture doesn't accept (nose piercing) become wrong in God's eyes? My daughter and I have a nose stud and just because America doesn't accept it as the norm doesn't make it "wrong". Would God have allowed Issac to choose Rebekah as a wife if it would have been a terrible sin to have a nose ring (read Gen.24)? It really saddens me when Christians play God. That's not our job folks.

Frankly, I wouldn't recommend any piercings for Christians (well, other than the ears for women, but that's a cultural norm).

After all, one of the points of Christianity is that none of us would ever again be required to get anything (read: hands, feet, or side) pierced.
---Nancy on 12/7/07

My cousin and a former boss both served a paramedics. To a paramedic a body or face piercing is another word for "zipper", because if you are in an accident, the piercing get dragged across and you get a gash in whatever direction it went. I do have my ears pierced, but I have seen enough ears with slices right through them to know that this is not without any risk. I do not want to test my luck with any more zippers.

A nose ring can be found in Genesis as a wedding ring. It also has spiritual significances that few teach.

It means far more than just a wedding ring and many make a mockery of God when they use it for a fad or such.

Also, a Indian friend of mine told me that many of them think it looks stupid on American girls as it does not match their culture or dress.

On the other hand, it would be the most scripturally accurate wedding ring for a zealous couple.

Does our every move glorify Christ? If I go shopping does that glorify Christ? Is it a sin? Should I not shop and give my money to the poor? The bible says for women to dress seperate as men but we both wear pants. The bible says women should have uncut hair because it is her glory but Christan women cut their hair! He wants us to spread the gospel. If we do it with a peirced nose then so be it! Lord forgive us for taking more time to judge one another and less time witnessing to those who need you!

Thank God that we no longer have to follow the laws in Deut and Lev but we were freed from them when Christ came! If you know your motives are pure, then you should feel free to get a nose ring. Godliness doesn't always look the same- for some, traditional is best. For others, a more modern look could cause more modern people to open up. Jesus didn't ask us to follow a long list of rules, He asked us to love God and show that love to others. So: How will You best love and glorify God?

While I do not judge anyone who uses a nose ring, you should think of the following: Did Jesus, the apostles, Paul, Mary, Elizabeth, Tabitha or anyone noted for their spirituality wear a nose ring? Paul said "Be imitators of me as I am of Christ" 1 Corinthians 11:1. Ask yourself: Am I doing this for Christ, or am I doing this for myself? Through prayer answer that question and you shall find the true answer to that question.

I think that a nose piercing is fine, as everyone stated, it WAS the first engagement ring, and as for being an example or how it will glorify God? many people think we are too uptight and take things over board, i think you'd reach out to many people out there who are discriminized for having just a nose piercing, THOSE people want nothing to do with God because of Christians judging ONE piercing. And you could be their light into seeing that its not really like that. Dont overspiritualize it

I myself have my nose pierced. Nose rings are biblical, in Ezekiel it talks about how God cleaned up a woman by adorning her with jewels, earings, necklaces, and a nose ring. I see nothing wrong with it, it shows that you are a SERVANT! That is what Christ called us to be. I also see nothing wrong with tattoos. The bible says do not mark your body for the DEAD. My dad has eight tattoos, all glorifying God. And by having them, he has opened up a lot of people to the love of Christ.

The Bible does not firmly state do not get a nose peircing, but the two things I think anyone should consider is: does it bring glory to God (since that is our purpose on earth) and will it aid your light to the world or hinder it? Even if you are the most devout Christian to ever walk the earth, if it causes one non-believer to turn away from you and in turn Christ, then that piercing caused a soul to be lost forever.

Nose rings are biblical...God even talks about him giving one to a wayward female as he cleaned her up and made her beautiful (a metaphor)...a nose ring was the first engagement ring....if you ppl think that you shouldnt mess with the body and should leave it alone as God made it then maybe you shouldnt wear earrings or shave your armpits....if God didnt want hair on your pits He wouldnt have made it grow there..... (I hope you see how ignorant this sounds)

Of coarse a Christian can have there nose pierced! I have mine pierced and I am closer than I ever was with God. Recently my youth pastor told me it was unholy to have your nose pierced, but she has her ears pierced and she saw nothing wrong with it. I just think that God really doesn't care wether it is your ears or your nose that is pierced. And also in the book of Genisis the first engagement ring was a nose ring. Kinda interesting, you should check it out :)

Forsamuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;

We have a responsibility to correct others through the word not befriend them out of the lusts of the flesh.

Will the piercing interfere with the God's intended purpose for the body part? For example, God designed tongues to aid in digestion and communication...piercing here would seem to contradict these functions.
Does the piercing draw undue attention to a body part? Consider the naval:a physical reminder of our once complete dependence on our mother. For women, it is close to the womb, a body part to be used in agreement with God's plan for new life, not an ornamental oddity.
---Claudia on 5/31/07

Steven; God didn't put us on this earth to judge people. Who are we to judge? God doesn't look at one's appearance. He looks at the heart of a person. How is this person being disobedint? I have my ears pierced, am I disobedint? How can you win people to Christ if you judge them by the way they look? Have you heard that song by Johnny Paycheck? "Jesus This is Jimmy". I beleive a Christian can pierce thier nose, as a matter of fact I took my daughter to pierce her's and she is 18. The scripture tells us in Ezekiel 16 how the Lord compares unfaithful Jerusalem to a girl he picks up cleans up and lavishes in fine jewels v.10-12. Then in the book of Isaiah 3:16-24 the Bible tells of how The Lord punished the women of Zion and he stripped them of their fineries including v.21 nose rings. My arguement for nose piercings...Hope this helps. God bless.

Rebecca_D: How could you make such a statement? What is our duty as Cristians toward our fellow Christians? What would happen if that other person isn't a Christian or a new Christian? What is our duty to go privately to the person who sinned and ask him to repent and doesn't. What are we to do then? Bring a witness? And if he still doesn't repent? What then?

We are to encourage each other to walk the narrow path towards the Kingdom of God. Being disobedient towards God won't get you there.

mark_B: Do you think I was born yesterday, or, in Christianity, born again? This is a matter of discernment, not judgement. I've already posted what piercing and tatooing is against Biblcal principles. And I'm already aware of your rebuttal that God looks at the heart and not the outer clothing. So don't even start. Your eternal life depends on your decision.

Oh, and by the way, you must learn about judging. We, as Christians, are able to judge on another. Can you tell me how that can be?
---Steveng on 5/19/07

Steven i love it how you automatically know what my heart is saying...except its not saying that, you can say it does but its not no matter how hard you think it is it wont...try not to judge

Do you won't to be christ like living to please him or do you won't to look like the world

This would be between that person and God. If under age, then it is up to the parents. In this day and time, no matter what you do or say, you're still going to get judged over something. This flesh is going to die anyhow. Go ahead, and if you feel condemned over it, then take it out.

mark_B: "If i do get something peirced...why would it be to glorify myself???"

Who else would you glorify? Certainly not God. Your heart says, "wow, now I'm cool and I could fit in with the cool people." Or the group you are trying to impress would say, "wow, you are cool. I like your 'piercing' or tatoo" What you are doing is impressing the people of the world - yourself or the group you want to hang out with.

If i do get something peirced...why would it be to glorify myself???
---mark_B. on 5/17/07

What does the bible say? It says not to defile the temple of God. Your body is the temple. Tatooing or piercing the body was a sign of slavery or a sign of a scrupulous person. Now a days it's whatever is bad is good and whatever is good is bad. God says "not to..."

Besides, are you piercing your body, or changing the way you look, to glorify yourself or to glorify God?

There's no particular reason why not. According to some translations of the Bible, Rebecca was given a nose-ring as an engagement present.

But I should think it would be singularly uncomfortable if you were to sneeze.
---Jack on 5/17/07

Of course you must seek God for all things but I have my nose pierced and it represents nothing. I just like it. I'm not in a gang. I love the Lord very much. It's not a statement it's expression of yourself. Piercings cannot be degrading such as in the genital area or your nipples. But your nose I say go for it.
