Am I Truly Saved

I'm seeking advice on how to get closer to the Lord. I was born again in January 2002. Since then, I've faced many trials and tribulations. I'm not as close to God as I should be and want to be. I feel disconnected from Him. I'm scared that perhaps I wasn't saved as I have struggled with the same sin in my life.

No, DDM, The baptism that John preached was repentance, Jesus's was a baptism of suffering and death and so too many disciples, Jesus descended into hell, there is a fire baptism after death 1 Cor 3, there is fire that will consume the people who are disobedient, in this world and/or in the next, there is baptism with water (infants) also grownups (outward sign of repentance that was on a previous occasion). There was the cloud in the Old Testament. Jesus own Baptism was by a cloud (the dove). Please anyone else do correct me if I am wrong because these are quite new to me too. Some of them overlap a little, like you might receive the Holy Spirit while you are being baptized in water. It is a big subject and cannot be easily gone into.

nicole, thank you and god bless. That was all I needed to know. I will clarify that I was not saying that what Jesus said was less important. I was just telling her that the feelings she is having are a lie from the father of lies. And then I gave her scripture to back up the fact that no matter how she feels, she is God's child and not to listen to "you know who". I went through what she is feeling, She must hold onto God's Word. God will see her through this. I know from experience. All she has to do is Stay in the WILL OF GOD. Stay in God's Word. Don't ever let the enemy steal her joy. Rejoice through the trial. God will reward her for it. God Bless!!

If you all could just stop for a moment and pray because this has gotten out of hand in disagreement. this only a suggestion for everyone. I o not want r desire to point fingers here. if I see a speck in my brothers eye I must first pull the log out of my own eye can we all agree on that. I am just suggesting to slow down and put some thought to what is said. Only because it does not seem to be done in love to me. This can only give her more questions. Just stay focused on Jesus Christ and not on any thing any of us say because if we speak the truth Jesus will point it out to you. bless you

So you are a Red Letter Catholic, are you, Nicole? That would explain a lot. Jesus came to do a wonderful thing for mankind. When He went away to Heaven (ascended) he sent back the Holy Spirit who was received by the apostles, as you know. The person who was chosen by Jesus Himself to replace Judas, and to actually lead the church was Paul. His letters are what we, as the church body, need to follow. Why? Because they were written for us. Yes, Jesus words we ought to know very well, but they were said in a historical context that is different to that which the church inherited. Of course Matthew 24 etc (the parallels in other gospels) were written for us. But mainly Jesus was talking to and concerning the Jews.

Am I truly saved, If you have excepted Jesus as the true Son of God the Father you are As they say you are born again. the questions that come to mind that is satin wanting to make you believe you never was saved but don't believe him.Jesus said that satin is the king of lairs, and all you need to do is tell to go to hell where he comes from, and lean on Jesus for all your needs and He will supply all you (NEED), not all you want. But He has a mansion waiting for you in Heaven when you go home to be with Jesus forever. If I can answer anything else or you just want to write to each other that is fine also. Your older brother in Christ

When one is born again, they are vitally placed in Christ - 1Jo5:20 And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.

If we are on a log we could fall off. If we are in the log it would be impossible to fall off.

The Apostle Paul declares:
Ro8:38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
Ro8:39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

No Ginger, I believe all the words of the Bible.
I told Debbie to take Jesus' Words for Salvation.
I see no difference in the Letters concerning Salvation from Jesus.

But, some are claiming Baptism isn't needed for Salvation.
The opposite of Jesus' Statement.
In red ink you know which Words are exactly His Words. No hearsay.
Debbie is getting different answers from everyone including myself.

The only Logical thing for Debbie to do is to follow Jesus' Words not ours.

You were stating all words in the Bible are God's Words as if the ones in red hold the same weight as the other words.
The Bible is approved by the Holy Spirit for us. But, lets not try to put Jesus' own Word at the same level as mere men.
---Nicole on 9/25/08

No, nicole, I am not upset. It was just an observation. You said for her to take what Jesus says first, and disregard the rest of the Word. Jesus is the Word- john ch 1. you said the words of Jesus are in red, but actually like I said He is the entire Word- again john ch 1. I said she should use the whole WORD. You jumped on me first and everyone else here when all we are doing is what we are suppose to do- Uplift our fellow Christians. Still you choose to argue when I am not arguing with you and you decided to condemn me for no reason. I will not say you are not Christian, I am sure you are, but the way you treat other Christians is not Christ-like.
---ginger on 9/25/08

DDM, you are incorrect. There are seven kinds of baptism. They are all referred to in the New and/or Old Testament. You need to do the studying.
---frances008 on 9/25/08

Apparently you read what Jesus says, but don't practice it, whilst accusing others of it.
In Mark 16.16 it is unclear which of the seven baptisms is referred to.--frances008

You are upset because I told Debbie to listen to Jesus rather than you or myself?
Now I will judge you since you judged me.
That is PRIDEFUL of you to be upset because I put Jesus' Words over your words!
Your own words just prove it!
Jesus is clear in Mark16:16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be Saved.

Matthew 28:19 Baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
What is confusing about that one?
Unless you are debating words from the Letters?

DO YOU SEE WHAT I AM SAYING, DEBBIE!
---Nicole on 9/25/08

I agree with DDM. nicole, the words in red are directly from Jesus. The rest of the word is from words, knowledge and wisdom revealed to men of God by God. So the entire Bible is the WORD. Are you saying that you only believe the words that are written red(Jesus)and deny the rest? if this is the case then you should also deny the apocrypha and other books that the RCC recognizes as being of or from God. I am not judging, just an observation of what you said, please correct me if I am wrong. "the power of life and death are in the tongue. blessings and curses" I choose to bless and be blessed. God Bless!
---ginger on 9/25/08

I would also like to say this- it is not right that individuals take the questions of christians needing guidance and make it their personal forum for bashing others. I for one would rather stick to subject at hand. So, like I said before debbie, I have had many many struggles, and at times felt as you are feeling right now. God always reminded me that I belong to him no matter what and I would tell myself that everyday. Use the word and say "get the behind me satan" because he is the father of lies and he is lying to you. Choose not to listen sister. You are in my prayers. God bless you!!!
---ginger on 9/25/08

First and formost you have stated that you became born again. When you truly accept Christ as Savior and Lord your name is then written in the Book of Life. Read IJohn 1:9. If you fall or make mistakes like we all do the word says that we are to confess our sins and God is faithful to forgive. We must develope our faith to beleive this. When we sin God does not take our name out of the Book of Life and then when we repent He puts it back in. It is a walk by faith.
The Word also says that when we draw near to God He will draw near to us. God wants us to believe His Word over our own thoughts. Look up the word Peace and when you have God's peace you have an open door to learn more about Him. You are growing. God Bless you in your walk.
---Wanda on 9/25/08

Frances_You are disingenuous with your reply,
Their are only two Baptisms that God sees,
One is of the Flesh(Water) & the other is of the Spirit!
Ask John T. Baptist, He'll tell you that he baptised with water, but the Lord will baptise you with the Spirit/Fire/Holy Ghost, same same!!!
Babies being Baptised(Symbolic jesture) means NOTHING to God, Baptism is for people who are old enough to know what there doing,
It's just another one of man's traditions that leads one nowhere...
Many people think there Baptised because they were baptised when they knew not what they were doing(Babies), Baptism is a choice YOU have to make. NOT your parents!!!!
---Duane_Dudley_Martin on 9/25/08

""Three at least are symbolic, including water baptism, so it does not make any difference whether a drop or an ocean was used for the baptism. In Mark 16.16 it is unclear which of the seven baptisms is referred to.""

Comparing it with Matthew 28, it's clear that WATER BAPTISM is referred to.

I realize that many Protestants think that physical acts cannot accomplish spiritual ends, but God has always used the foolish things of this world to confound the wise.
---katavasia on 9/25/08

Frances008_You are a poster child for Gods reason that HE'LL NEVER allow women to teach men the things of God!!!
To be carnally MINDED is to be at odds with God, Will you separate yourself from God with your own carnally minded worries of this world?
FOR YOUR SOULS SAKE, I Plead with you as I have so many other times,
Christians know who to follow and they hear his voice, Even if the Freemasons or any other org. is taking over(THEY CAN HAVE IT)
should be your attitude!!!
We are to warn people of the impending dangers of NOT coming to God thru the Blood of Yahshua(Jesus), WE are to be Gathier's, NOT scatterers of men. Help be a Gathier, for he who helps scatter shall be torn asunder and tossed into Hell's Fire!

Pray, Pray, Pray. Then when you finish, pray some more. Keep praying, which is the best way to draw nigh to the Lord. Seek him with your true heart and in sincerity. Seek him in truth and ask for forgiveness. Confess your shortcomings to him as often as you need. Keep asking him for help. Pray and read the word of God as often as you can each day. Pray and ask God to fill you with the precious gift of the Holy Ghost like on the day of Pentecost. Pray and ask God for wisdom. Pray, Pray, Pray. Then when you finish... pray some more. Be blessed!

At the time of salvation coming to the Lord did you expect to receive the spirit of Christ and of God. As far as I can see in the Scripture it is the Spirit of God is sanctifies and sets us apart and seals us unto the day of salvation if you make just a profession of Christ ,so do the demons andit just becomes mental assent ,expect him to come into your heart and your life in the person of the Holy Spirit which is the Spirit of Christ and God GIVES US the power to become the sons of God.

Ginger, who said you or anyone criticized her?
Is the whole Bible the words of God? Are you kidding me?

Tell me, what is the red ink for?
Why have two different inks?
Maybe because Jesus isn't like the rest!
He is God and the rest isn't!
Sorry, but God's Words are worth more than the rest put together.

You state 'Bible only'
You refuse to accept any man's Authority on Earth from a Church.
But, Debbie shouldn't take Jesus Words over all else?
Does that make sense to you?
What have I said wrong?
No judging here.
Don't get upset because I told Debbie to take Jesus' Words over opinions and interpretations.

Debbie should listen to you.
But, I can't listen to the Pope - right?

---Kim2u on 9/24/08

As for Baptism, there are seven kinds. Three at least are symbolic, including water baptism, so it does not make any difference whether a drop or an ocean was used for the baptism. In Mark 16.16 it is unclear which of the seven baptisms is referred to. I believe it refers to one of the real baptisms. I am not saying a child who is baptised is no different to one who isn't. A baby is only baptised on the promise that he or she will be brought up a Christian. Therefore it is a promise and when fulfilled we end up with a church member.
---frances008 on 9/24/08

Nicole, you have been deceived by some spirit, because you say that I do as I wish, or want to do as I wish. I don't. I both want to, and try to do what Jesus would have me do. You defile me and if I were you I would repent before something bad happens to teach you not to do so. Beware and read what it says in the gospel about judging others. Apparently you read what Jesus says, but don't practice it, whilst accusing others of it. Is this not a bit Pharisaical? Everyone should look to their own rewards and try and avoid their own punishments. You need to do what John the Revelator writes, and Come Out of Her My People.
---frances008 on 9/24/08

nicole, i hope by your statement that you are not judging. that is what it sounds like. none of us have criticized her. jesus came to baptise by SPIRIT, sis. this means we don't have to be baptised by water as long as we have the spirit. it also sounds like you do not see the whole Bible as God's Word. Please sis if i am wrong correct me. ALL of the Bible is God's word. We are to use it to uplift each other. The enemy is just lying to debbie-that is what he does. so we have all given her the Word and let her know that she IS SAVED and a CHILD OF GOD. bless you sis.

Debbie, it is very simple.
Just read Jesus' Words from the Gospels.
Notice, I am NOT giving you MY opinion or interpretation of Scriptures like the others.
I am pointing to you the Words spoken by Jesus and only Jesus. Not His Disciples' words, but Jesus only.
Don't listen to anyone, only do what Jesus said.

Jesus will ask you why you didn't you just follow My Words?
Why did you follow others' words and not My Words?

Be careful. Others what you to listen to them instead of Jesus.

Jesus is clear on what is needed for Salvation.
Mark 16:16 Believe and be Baptized for Salvation!
Jesus also said in Matthew 28 how Baptism should be done. By the Trinity.
YOU WON'T GO WRONG IN FOLLOWING JESUS' WORDS!
---Nicole on 9/24/08

Debbie, everyone struggles with sin, if they say they have no sin they do not have the Truth. Anyone telling you that salvation can be lost is because they have earned theirs. If they had faith in the Works of Christ and His sacrifice they would never even think of losing what God has given them. Baptism does not save, God grace saves.
---MarkV. on 9/24/08

For you to be worried about what the lord thinks of you tells me, you truly love him!
I would like you to believe, he loves you more then you love him. The word love to him is so much more then any one of us knows. I believe we know of this love by his love to us. We learn from him. The day is coming when this love will be all there is! I say to you and all of you, never ever doubt his love to yourselves or each other. Try to find a way to forgive all, love all, remove the mountains in your way, make the ways of the lord straight for all people. Just a man talking, right!
Perceive!
---Frank on 9/23/08

Yes once saved always saved. We were bought by the blood of Christ. John 10:28 And I give unto them ETERNAL life, and they shall NEVER perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of My hand. Not "any man" includes ourselves. There is nothing we can do to undo our salvation or eternal life. Salvation is secure. Water has nothing to do with it either. But the word says there is only "ONE baptism". Ephesians 4:5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism.....So which is it? Water or Holy Spirit? There's only one that exists. Water baptism had no effect. John was just ushering in Jesus's ministry and showing the symbolism in what was coming that was better than the water baptism he was doing.

Mark 16:16 Does that statement say that one MUST be baptized?--mima

Why do you test the Lord?
You are not questioning me, but Jesus.
He said to be baptized by the Trinity in Matthew 28

As for Acts. You left out that the Holy Spirit and God is said.
Acts 3:29-41, V38 "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
God is mentioned in V 39.

V 38 states baptism for forgiveness of sin. The RCC has been saying exactly what Jesus states is needed for Salvation. Mark 16:16, not a 'Sinner's Prayer' alone.
DDD is correct.
Please stop tearing up Scriptures so you can paste them together as you wish.
---Nicole on 9/23/08

My sister, you are saved. Do not let the enemey steal your joy. This is what the Word says - 1 Peter 4:11-13 "If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen. Dear friends, do not be surprised at the painful trial you are suffering, as though something strange were happening to you.But rejoice that you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed."
---ginger on 9/23/08

Frances008, the RCC never sprinkle. WE POUR.
You are making excuses to allow yourself to do as you wish. Why?

If Jesus said pick up 10 dollars from me and buy a cup coffee, so you go home early today. But if you don't buy me coffee you are staying late.
If you pick up the coffee and not the $10 dollars are you following His Commands? He told you to take $10 and buy coffee.
Why do you think you can pick and choose which ones you are going to obey?
Just because He didn't mention Baptism twice you can skip it?
What are you going to say to Him?
You forgot to say it again for Damnation?
He going to say: What did I say for Salvation? Believe and be baptism!

Stop playing with His Words.
Just obey them!

The way you get closer to the Lord is by seeking Him. You seek the Lord through reading the Bible every day, praying, fasting, praising, worshipping, being surrounded by strong saints/christians and being under a Holy Ministry.

The first time you were saved, you were saved truly, however, just because you were saved once, DOES NOT mean that alone keeps you save. Being saved requires constant work of seeking the Lord.

When a person repents, he/she is saved. However, being baptize by water and the Holy Ghost is also very important because the Holy Ghost is a person's keeping power in staying saved.

God bless you Debbie and I hope this helps...
---Elvie on 9/23/08

Debbie-
Do you think you are a good person? Have you ever told a lie = liar. Have you ever stolen something = thief. Have you ever used God's name as a cussword = blasphamy. Have you ever looked with lust at someone = adultery. Have you ever hated someone or been angry with someone = murder. All these things will land you in Hell. God is a holy God and cannot allow sin into Heaven. God sent His Son (Jesus) to die on a cross and shed His blood for you. If you repent (turn from your sins) and trust in Jesus like a skydiver would a parachute, then you will be saved.
---Leslie on 9/23/08

Anyone who finds the Lord, seeks what he say's and tries to walk as he walked, as we should.
One of his COMMANDS to peter & others WAS to go & Baptize all that would come to him!
If your a Cristian who doesn't feel the need to be Baptized, I WOULD CHECK yourself for a pulse, Because you are spritually DEAD if you think Baptizm is of NO EFFECT!

I would give scripture Again on this, but it would only be misused & shreaded, so actually I'm doing you a favor by not giving scripture to be torn apart!

You are spiritually blind to say or think such things!

Nicole . Mark 16:16 says," He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved, but he that believeth not shall be damned".
Does that statement say that one MUST be baptized?

Nine times in the book of acts people are baptized in "the name of Jesus". So would you have these baptisms which took place in "the name of Jesus" to be disqualified is genuine baptisms?

The sufficiency of Christ, His very sacrifice on the Cross is never enough for those who want salvation by works. They believe they have earned enough to make it in His kingdom. Their own pride prevents them from entering, for they will never surrender their lives in humbleness to the fact that it is all of Christ. They need to have something to do with their salvation so they insist in doing rituals to get it. But no amount of works can ever compare to the sacrifice of Christ. Only He can save by His works on the Cross, any other gospel is a false gospel.
---MarkV. on 9/23/08

Just keep the faith i know what iv been through and if you would like to talk sometime i am here for you ok.
---Rocky on 9/22/08

Debbie, because you mentioned that you were seeking advice to get closer to the Lord, means that the Holy Spirit is already working in your life. Two reasons I say this, One, that you have a conviction already in your heart by what you said, two, those who are lost don't seek God or feel a conviction. They are running away from Him. They are spiritually dead to the things of God. So your next move is to repent of that sin. Sin keeps us away from Christ and only through repentance can we feel better about who we are in Christ.

Nicole, you used your logic and interpreted the Bible as you wish to interpret it. Mark 16.16 says that those who believe and are baptized are saved, and those who don't BELIEVE, are damned. It does not say that those who are not baptized are damned. Anyway 'baptize' means 'to dip'. That could refer to any of seven baptisms mentioned in the Bible, and the one I think you refer to is the least important of them all - the symbolic sprinkling of water.
---frances008 on 9/23/08

Nicole you need to be careful spewing out information that is not true. One does not have to be baptized to be saved.---Robyn

It is Biblical! I read my Bible, it is you who need to crack your Bible back open. I think you forgot what Jesus said.
Let Debbie read for herself and listen to Jesus not you.
The RCC states Baptism because JESUS STATES BAPTISM FOR SALVATION!

We state whatever He states.
Mark 16:16 Whoever believes and is BAPTIZED will be SAVED,

Are you saying Jesus is mistaken? That Baptism isn't needed?
Please tell me how you think Jesus is wrong and you are right?

Jesus never spoke on this 'Sinner's prayer'.
But, Baptism, several times.
Matthew 28:19-20 This is a COMMAND not a suggestion.
---Nicole on 9/22/08

Robyn,
Sure, lets start with the straightening of strangers first, then we may move to fix the mote in our eye and the problems in our own household next, right?
"But I would never tell them I am disappointed in them,to their face. Only wanted to know what others felt about something like this."
---Robyn on 5/17/08

For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.

The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or of men? answer me.

Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth.

Robyn, the only thing I see wrong with Nicole's last reply was the implication of being baptized to be saved. Baptism is a command, found in Matthew 28:19-20, "Go ye therefore, teaching all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son and the holy Spirit..." You're not saved by baptism, but, we are to make public declaration of our salvation and association with Christ.
---tommy3007 on 9/22/08

Robyn:If spewing out Gods word is objectionable to You Matt28:19 and Mark16:16. Could you explain why it is ok to disregard HIS word.as he said "My word shall stand for all time"How do you plan to absolve Original sin?Whosoever told you this did you an injustice.Have you been Baptised?
---MIC on 9/22/08

Nicole you need to be careful spewing out information that is not true, also. One does not have to be baptized to be saved. It is an ordinance of the church but it is not a command. We should be baptized if we have claimed Jesus as our Savior. It is only done in obedience to Christ not a requirement to be saved. You need to study more and ask the Lord for Spiritual wisdom and understanding. You don't have either, as far as I can tell.
If one receives Jesus as Savior, and was not baptized, does not mean they won't go to heaven.
---Robyn on 9/22/08

Jesus states you must be Baptized to be Saved. Mark 16:16.

1st John chapter 2:2 says all sins are paid for therefore do not condemn yourself. It is Satan who is troubling you with guilt. Your trust and confidence in your salvation is in God's Word he said," whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved." Now is it possible that the Lord lied or perhaps was confused and made a mistake. No that's not possible, therefore you have God's promise(not mine or yours or some other person) yes God's promise that you are saved! Believe it.

Debbie, It takes time to overcome our fleshly ways, habits of being human. Years for some. I think you pretty much answered your own question when you made the statement, you are not as close to God as you should be. That's telling me you are as close "AS YOU WANT TO BE". If you desire a closer walk with God, I'm sure He is more than willing. I think you need to do some soul searching, and let go of your "EARTHLY" life, walk in the spirit of God. There will be no doubt.
---Fred_S. on 7/27/07

Debbie, One thing you need to understand is that the more we desire to walk closer to God, the harder the devil is going to try to sabotage it. Also, the closer we walk with the Lord, the "bigger" our sins seem to be even though they may actually be growing less frequent, they seem worse because we see ourselves in a different sense in comparison to what we know and understand about God. He is light, and the closer we wlak to that light, the more our sins seem to glare out at us.

Jesus desires you as much as you desire Him..develope your relationship with HIM, by focusing on Him.Do you fellowship with strong, faithful, Christians? spend time with the Word(bible). Make Jesus number ONE in your life.. I hope and pray this may help..

There is a rhythm of faith that appears to come to many of us after we have been saved. Sometimes we feel disconnected but we must never rely on our fleshly feelings to determine our spirituality. Stay in the Word, pray that the Lord will restore your closeness with Him and He is faithful to answer your prayers. Hope this has helped. You will come close again, just don't give up hope. God does everything in His own time. He is probably testing your faith now; don't disappoint Him.

Thank you Alan. I truly do WANT to be closer to the Lord. I know I have turned from Him at times. I know how much I need Him in my life too. I need to learn how to listen to Him and His will for my life. I know I have not been listening in the recent past.

All God's people go through trials and tribulations. I am going through something right now that I never dreamed I would be going through. But there is a reason as to why I (we) go through these trials. At times it is hard to praise God during trials, but that is when we need to praise him the most. You feel disconnected from God because that is what Satan wants. You to pull away when trouble comes around. Don't give up, and keep holdin' on.

Debbie: since reading your question this morning I have been studying the book of Romans. Might I suggest you carefully read Romans. In Romans it says that we are to have joy in our tribulations. Although I know many newly born again Christians feel this question, I must say that a reading of Romans should alleviate your concerns with this question.

debbie, when i got saved i felt on top of this world.. i saw how ugly my life was and just praised God for showing me and dedicated my entire life to HIm. A few months later that feeling of complete joy disappeared. Although i never doubted i was saved i felt a little disappointed. Needless to say on this site though, God is good and you must just keep the faith. God always lets you know He is near and i now KNOW HE NEVER disappoints. Keep walking sister :)

Fred .... I think you should take Debbie at her word when she says she is not as close to God as she wants to be. It is not helpful to her to say that she has not told us truth. There are ways to help her, but yours is not the right way. Are you as close to God as YOU want to be? I know I am not.
