What Is The Gift Of Discernment
Isn't it true that we only know as much about demons and how they operate to the degree that the Lord opens our eyes and shows us things about them? If one has the gift of discerning of Spirits, how does one use it? In other words, what is this gift used for?

To answer your original question discernment of spirits is one of the gifts of the Spirit.
If you receive it you will know how to use it without asking anyone.
The Lord will give it and use it.
You will be able to discern the spirit by which people speak or post, whether from God, the devil or their own mind or heart.
It also gives the ability to discern some dreams as the Lord reveals through it.
When the Lord gives it he gives the ability.
And discernment will show you right here at this site who is posting by the Spirit of God and who is not.

The gifts are all given as God wills.Often discernment is given to us for self protection from evil people.If a pastor it is often so he can protect the church from evil influences.Sometimes a person may be called to the deliverence ministry and then they can pray for the person and cast it out.Calling it by name and commanding it to go in Jesus Name.Demons are subject to born again people.In other words you can discern the type of demon. |

Anne, I always expecting to receive something edifying through staying humbly in the Spirit. It's the only way to clearly hear the Spirit's Discernment of what is being shared. James 1:19-20 is the state of mind that I endeavor to abide in, whenever attending to anything in Life.
James 1:19-20 be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.

So I conclude from this that some members could be wholly deceived and believe some behaviors are 'divine' but in truth are 'satanic'. Only those with the gift can tell for sure...
But what if two who each claim to have the 'gift' 'discern' differently, how can those without the gift, tell for sure? |

3) Who gave you a "gift of 'discernment'"...
4) Which is the ability to 'discern' 'spirits'...
5) And if 'god' (aka 'the Lord') opens our eyes you can understand how 'demons' operate...

The gift of discernment is knowing good from evil.We must keep our mind renewed by reading the word of God. You can't discern when your thinking is just like the rest of the world.
It is a gift from God.He doesn't want us to be deceieved. |

Jesus gave the body of Christ the authority to bind and cast out demons, so the gift of the discerning of spirits helps in times of intercessory / warfare praying for others or when praying concerning any difficult situation that a Christian may face.
its not only to discern demon activity but also to be aware of the protective angels of God who minister for the heirs of salvation. this too helps in times of prayer with the authority to loose the angels to do they're part in getting God's will done in the earth. |

This gift is very important in the body of Christ, to distiguish between good and evil, and the true motives of a person. Firsthand, this is not a gift that is all blessing, I have been hurt knowing the true motives in people. Alot of prayer, fasting and concecrating to God is needed for this gift to be effective, as SELF needs to be moved out the way. A person truly needs to Walk in the Spirit. Visions and Dreams are a part of this gift,seeing spirits (evil and good.Please if you have this gift, or suspect you do, please pray and ask God to be your director, not man. Pray and fast, and keep a journal(dreams,visions,God speaking to you). And rest assured God will teach you what you need to know! |

I believe that God spoke to me through a very clear dream I had just recently about discernment--at least I think it was about discernment. In the dream I immediately sensed certain people in priestly tunics were actually filled with spirit of the enemy. One priest in particular spoke gibberish and made hand & body gestures that I could not undertand. However, a group of women in my dream understood the priest's language and agreed to follow him. I immediately set myself apart from the ladies and refused to commune. I was not scared, rather, I felt a strong resolve to set myself apart. I awoke at 3:30am. I've asked God for an accurate interpretation. I'm receiving bits of confirmation that this dream was truly about discernment. |

The degree to which our eyes are opened by the gift of truthfully discerning of spirits, is proportionate to how meek, humble & weak we are before the Lord.
Remember!! We are in a spiritual war and our weapons are not carnal but spiritually mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds. The gift of discernment enable us to discern spiritual truths & utilize the spiritual gifts/weapons of God.
A man without discernment is like a warrior who is unable to see or recognize not only his own weapons but also the weapons & attacts of his enemies!!!! |

How many people struggle with demons thinking their house is just "haunted?" How many people live their lives in shame because they are told these incidents are "mental issues?" use this gift to help oppressed people realize what they need to do and where they should put their trust- in God. |

Sadly discernment of spirits goes beyond seeing demons. Many who claim to have discernment cannot tell a sermon or website post that uses the word of God through the spirit of antichrist. And sadly, after showing their great and mighty knowledge without discerning their own pride, they will damn themselves by their own mouth. If only they would stop trying to teach spiritual things through a carnal mind when we are to compare spiritual with spiritual.

I'm newly married to a Christian man (52) that seems to see demonic beings often. He isn't afraid because he is saved, but I've never heard of this. I know my husband is sane and loves the Lord, but why would he have the ability to see these things. His son also has the ability, but is not walking with the Lord. Why would God want someone to see demons all the time. |

I was recently told by my mentor that I posess this gift. I use it in my work (large non-profit). Between work, church and the community, I'm on 13 boards and committees...co-chair or vice-chair on five of them. I can discern problems and develop solutions with people - and it is all social justice and holy spirit driven...that's what that gift looks like in my life. Plus, I have a ball doing it all. It's a blessing. |

Every True Christian needs to be able to tell good from evil, [Heb. 5:14]. These are the levils inwhich the gift is operated. 1. Is good behavior is in reality the work of Satan. 2. I believe that it would help a person to be able to pray better, knowing what is behind the scenes, we often look at the person, thinking that he/she is the problem, but, with this gift in operation, we would be able to see what the enemy did not want us to see.I believe that all the gifts are given to help us in our work down here. |

Some years ago, during a camp meeting, the Lord opened my eyes, to allow me to see grotesque, beings on certain people, as they came into my little store, i have not seen this since, but, it helps me always remember that we do not war against flesh & blood, but against principalities and powers of the air, in high places, which i believe is the mind. Seeing this helps to remind me that it is not the person, but what is in the person, whether good or bad. |

Yes. The gift of discerment means that a person can distinguish between good and evil in a person. It is used of what is of the Holy Spirit. Also discernment signifies that which relates to judging of the word of God as quick discern the thoughts and intents of the heart. |

Discernment is used for recognizing the spirits of people. Are they Godly spirits or demon spirits. At the ministry where I lived, it became easy to tell those people whom satan had sent to sow seeds of discord. No one was ever turned away. Those of satan couldn't stay because the Spirit of God is so strong at Wingard Home. Amazing place to live and learn. |

I was surprised to learn how much the Bible has to say about Satan and demons. I believe we should get our information about their method of operation more from the Word and less from how they operate. Satan is a deceiver, we need to be careful about keeping our attention on him. The purpose for the discerning of spirits is to help us determine what is of God, the flesh, or the devil. It is a spiritual tool that is developed as our walk with the Lord matures. |

Another story; once while visiting a church a young 11-year-old boy walked up to me and shook my hand. Immediately upon our hands touching I saw the child's spirit, and I said, oh you are saved born again, yes the boy said I was saved when I was nine years old. I really like the answer Fred S. gave. Sometimes the discernment gift works very quickly. At other times more slowly but with more certainty. Just the other day a person brought another person to me and said what do you think about their salvation. Whereupon I said." You are absolutely secure in your salvation". Whereupon the person confirmed verbaly that that was true. |

I didn't know what this gift was until over 20 years ago when my supervisor back then was talking to me, and I distinctly saw his face literally contort and twist into this ugly devil's face. And his face kept changing back and forth from normal to hideous as he was talking to me, and he didn't seem to be aware of it, but from that I knew he was possessed. You can use this gift to help witness to people, and also to expose the deceivers and to protect the body. |

Discerning of spirits is just what it says,the supernatural ability,given by the infilling of the Holy Ghost, to know what spirit is operating through or in a person. It lets one know exactly what that spirit is and if evil take authority over it, in Jesus name, to not let it speak or move. The Bible says we have power over all the power of the enemy so we can command those evil spirits. Using it isn't just about commanding,it is also getting away from evil spirits/people. |
