Part of the meaning of the word divide, from the Greek orthotomeo means "to handle aright, to teach the truth directly and correctly."

rightly dividing the Word of God is achieved by prayer, study and useing scripture in context.

How many times do we have to go over this issue? I now believe there should be some categories for posts like these, so new CN members can find all the related ones! Here are two from the past on the 2 Timothy 2:15 words:

2. Paul tells Timothy that the way he can stand unashamed and approved before God is by "rightly handling" the Word of Truth. Thus the twofold task of the pastor, as defined in the above Scriptures, is (1) to preach the Word of God, and (2) to interpret it accurately.

The servant of Christ must do more than preach the Word. It is possible to be earnest, eloquent, and knowledgeable in the Scriptures, and yet preach it either inaccurately or in less than its full truth. (Apollos in Acts 18:24-28). Paul commands Timothy, "Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who has no need to be ashamed, (Rightly handling) the word of Truth" (2 Timothy 2:15). A workman would feel ashamed if incompetence or shoddiness were detected in his work.

The word is already divided into two Laws. There is the Old Testament, B.C. (Before Christ), the Levitical-Mosaic Law which is disannulled; and there is the New Testament, A.D. (Anno Domini, Annual of the Lord), the Judaic-Messianic Law which is currently in force. Thus the command is to divide the word of truth justly, showing how God's commandments have changed from the Old Testament ways to the New Testament ways. They are not the same and there is a very big difference between the two.

The first step is to pray. The second step is to know the context of the Scripture. (This may require reading a number of chapters at one time to get the true context.) The third step is to remember what the Apostle Paul states in 2 Timothy 3:16-17

We who are filled with the Holy Spirit, it is HE who divides the word of God. Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
Piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit.....My words are Spirit Jesus said. So a natural man can't divide the Spiritual word, the Holy Spirit must do it for us.

Jn.16:12(13)-15. As was said, The Holy Spirit, Pneumah, Paraclete, Harouch Hakadash of Echad/God teaches. Why so many translations, denominations, etc. Somebody's wrong as Echad/God is ALWAYS RIGHT.

You can rightly divide the Word Of Truth, you can wrongly divide it. "Lean not to your own understanding ..."! Simply believe/trust God putting the burden of proof on His shouders, He won't fail you, just prove it scripturely 'til you know His voice without question [II Tim.2:13-16, 3:16-17]

You must have a thorough understanding of the Times and Dispensational Truth and Teachings. Divide "all Scripture" according to the times, when, and as it was written. We rightly divide the Word of truth as to its Times and Dispensations, but as to its Truth and Teaching also: we must learn to appropriate each truth to the particular Dispensation to which it belongs.

Rightly dividing the Word does not mean into seven Dispensations! LOL

We are curious why questioning doctrine is wrong. The appearance looks double minded, which the Lord has warned us against. Why the strong reaction? Is this the wide path?
---Susan_&_Rene on 3/22/06

Only through the Holy Spirit can the word be rightly divided. Man tends to put his own interpretation on scriptures.
