Pastor Herb, I agree with you but, please permit me to clarify what you say below. People who do not have the Holy Spirit can be saved, at which point God will give them the Holy Spirit. It is God's pre-emptive work on them. Nobody is born with the Holy Spirit in them. Baptizing babies does not give them the Holy Spirit, just the promise that the parents will teach the children properly. If we needed the Holy Spirit in order for God to save us from our unsaved state, nobody would be saved. Do you get what I am saying. The Holy Spirit is the gift we receive on being saved. I know you know this and I am just clarifying because some people might interpret your sentence to mean the opposite. God gives us the Holy Spirit then we're saved.

First I would like to say that you cannot be saved without having the Holy Spirit in you.Ro8:9
But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

Eph4:5
One Lord, one faith, one baptism,

Where is the second baptism? or baptism of the Holy Spirit?

If you get the Holy Spirit by spirit baptism, after you are saved, then you wern't saved the first time according to Ro.8:9

You receive the baptism of the Holy Ghost the same way you received the free gift of salvation...by faith. Ask and you shall receive is a spiritual law, not a hit and miss probability. Whatsoever things you ask for when you pray, believe you receive them and you shall have them. Father desires to give you this gift otherwise you would never desire it yourself since it is He who gives you the desires of your heart.

So Jameson did you?

Rev Herb - I suggest you go to one of your reverand classes for the Holy Ghost before you go trying to scare someone from recieving the gifts God gives. If you ask in faith to the Father does the Devil answer. If you ask for a simple thing from God "like a good job" would you tell some one to beware the devil might be there?
beware if you ask a rev he might just be the devil.

Jameson, Herb is recommending that you remove the whole book of Acts and a portion of the book of 1 Corinthians since it doesn't apply today. Paul said this:

I am innocent of the blood of all men for I have not failed to deliver the whole counsel of God.

That is in Acts, the very same book that talks about the baptism of the Holy Ghost, the evidence of it, and the very fact that Paul, after being converted, received the baptism of the Holy Ghost to remove the scales from his eyes.

Paul also said in 1 Cor., "I speak with tongues more than you all." Look out for people who tell you that the whole word is not applicable today, especially when that Word makes a clear distinction between initial conversion and the baptism of the Holy Ghost. To answer your question, if you have asked for it then believe you have received. The Spirit will give you the utterance and you are to open your mouth and speak what you hear in your spirit.

In regards to the "devil's counterfeit"....if there is a counterfeit, there is a true. The "devil's counterfeit" is an excuse to resist the true. This isn't about God giving. It is about us receiving what He has already given and operating in it. If He already gave it and you receive it from HIM, it is blasphemy to call it "of the devil".

Are you a Christian? Then you have been baptized by the Holy Ghost. If you are looking for an experience or second blessing, with the speaking in tongues, then you are treading on dangerious ground, The devil will give you a counterfit.

The Bible says "Ask, and you shall recieve".

To be filled with the Spirit requires that you have faith and yield to God. Scripture tells us that the tongue is the hardest thing to control. Faith brings the promise to you and yielding to God brings the manifestation.

I was saved at 11 years old in church, but didn't receive the Baptism of the Holy Ghost with tongues until I was 22. I had been to church on a Sunday morning and felt no leading to seek the HG there, but knew all the way home I was going to receive. I went home, got alone in my bathroom, and began to praise God in words. The HG flowed through me ,came to inhabit the Temple of my body, and I began to speak with tongues as the HG gave utterence. Seek the Giver/God and Praise Him,don't seek the tongues.

I received the baptism of the Holy Ghost one evening on the way home from services. I was playing praise and worship music and singing along when I heard the utterance of the Spirit. I spoke what I heard and I too haven't been the same since.

I received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit a few weeks after I was born again. I was alone and simply prayed and asked God for it. Then by faith I started speaking "sounds" rather than English. Nothing profound happened but I kept praying in tongues every day, trusting God. After a few weeks, God dramatically proved to me that tongues was legimate. That was 23 years ago and I've never doubted since. The Baptism of the Holy Spirit made a terrific difference in my life.

To answer the question.. there is no "formula" for receiving this baptism. I was alone.. just prayed "Lord, I want more of YOU..and I want you to have more of ME". I knew nothing of the "Baptism in the Holy Spirit". I just waited before the Lord expecting,...I didn't know what. What I got was powerful but not emotional, exhilerating but profoundly peaceful. If you sincerely want this, just ask. And if you are willing to speak in tongues, you may receive this gift also.

First you need to be faithfull to God. Pray and seek God for this gift. If being baptised by the Holy Ghost is your heart's desire, God will see this and in his time will baptise you by the Holy Ghost. Herb doesn't fully understand this. Jesus wasn't baptised by the Holy Ghost until John baptised him.

Jameson: Why do feel a need to be baptized of the Holy Ghost?
---Leon on 3/24/06

And should you decide the "perfect which is to come" is the Scriptures, I submit that the "perfect (mature)" is God's people growing up into the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ. That hasn't happened yet. If it had already happened, we would look like that city and flow like that river in the book of Revelation.
---Linda on 3/24/06

Herb, you might can use the book of Acts and say that it has passed away but you cannot deny that Paul, who received the revelation of Jesus Christ, was filled AFTER he was born again. Blinded for three days and having to be led around by the hand, he didn't see much until those scales fell off his eyes when he was filled.
---Linda on 3/24/06

Jameson, if you ask your Heavenly Father for a fish, he will not give you a serpent. The last thing the devil wants right now is for you to be baptized in the Holy Ghost. Herb, you teach a falsehood. If one asks Father for something, the devil isn't the one who answers. If that were true, then you asking God to save you might have been answered by the devil.

Why can't we back up our responses with scripture? The Baptism of the Holy Spirit is ministered to a person by the laying on of hands, He doesn't automatically come when you say the sinners prayer. Please read the first 10 chapters of Acts and how it was done.
---Dona9759 on 3/24/06

Acts 8:17 and 18 says the baptism of the Holy Spirit is given through the laying on of hands. Here are the scriptures to back this up: Acts 8:17 and 18: Then laid they [their] hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost. vs. 18 And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles' hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money,

Know that and believe. When you ask believing, you will hear the utterance of the Holy Spirit within your spirit. Speak out of your mouth what you hear.

You are probably going to get several responses to this blog telling you that you do not need this gift, that it has passed away, that it is of the devil. I say to you, "Go with the desires of your born again, blood washed, regenerated heart that contains the love and nature of your Heavenly Father."
