I would appreciate your input as to any teaching in the Bible that would show us to go to doctors or lawyers for help when God is those things for us.

Interesting question. Where does it say about going to pastors to pray for us when we can go directly to God ourselves? Sometimes God heals through doctors. As for lawyers, 1 Corinthians 6:1-7 is against lawsuits, and Romans 12 talks about not taking revenge against evil (don't get revenge through lawsuits punishing others).

2 Chr 16:12, Mt 9:12, Mk 5:26, Luke was a physician, Col 4:14, Luke 5:31 is speaking figuratively.

John T--Yes! I'm on chemo for cancer (mostly preventive now). When I heard I had cancer, stage III (stage IV is terminal),I didn't hesitate 1 second *wondering* if I should get medical treatment! Some friends thought I should depend on the Lord alone. But I would have gone nuts knowing what was available and doing nothing! .The Lord guided my medical decisions; performed a financial miracle.. I had no insurance. He and the docs worked together perfectly. Now docs are amazed at my progress!

It is not either science or faith, but both science and faith. Thus the Q makes a false dichotomy.

Same for lawyers, all jokes aside.

Faith will neither draw a will, nor set a bone, neither will science heal, nor lawyers keep us moral beings.

Matthew 9:12 and Luke 5:31 both state 'And Jesus answering said unto them, They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick.' Jesus obviously had no objections to the sick seeking medical help.

James 5:14 says: "is any sick among you? Let him call for the elders of the church and let them pray over him him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord".

Medicine only treats a takes God to heal! Doctors use their understanding of God's creation (whether or not they recognize it as such.) They can create a situation conducive to healing, but they cannot, of themselves "heal" any body.

Wes, I believe the passages you refer to are telling Christians to work things out between each other instead of in court. Sometimes an unbeliever isn't willing to do that. And, of course, the law is not about revenge, it is about applying the laws of the city, state or country to individual cases. As a Christian, if your motive is revenge, then you need to first talk to the Lord and forgive whoever you think has wronged you.

Luke was as doctor. He was called Colossians 4:14, "Luke, the beloved physician, and Demas, greet you."

Jesus told parables that talked about judges and he never indicated that there was anything wrong with going to one. That could be seen as an approval of a legal system.

Acts 21:17-26:32 Tells the story of Paul's arrest and how he appealed to Caeser on the basis of his legal rights as Roman Citizen. Using the leagal system to his advantage.

Jesus is described as our "advocate" or pleading our case before the Father. i John 2:1 so the concept of an advocate was an accepted one.
