Receiving Or Filled With HS

Is there a difference between "receiving" the Holy Spirit and being "filled" with Holy Spirit ? Do you believe the hundred and 20 in the upper room had "received" the Holy Spirit before they were "filled" with the Holy Spirit according to ACTS chapter 2:4?

PART FOUR:
In Acts 8 we read of the Samaritan revival. These people were saved (indwelt by the Spirit) and baptized in water but, according to vv 15, 16 they had not yet been baptized in the Holy Ghost.
Either:
a. They knowingly baptized unconverted individuals
or
b. They baptized converted individuals who were later baptized in the Holy Ghost.

PART FIVE:
Paul had a similar experience having been converted and a later being baptized in the Holy Ghost. Acts 9

The Ephesians had been converted under Apolos ministry but had not yet been baptized in the Holy Ghost. Acts 19

Clearly, there is a subsequent baptism in the Holy Ghost that follows conversion.

If you read in Romans chapters 5-8 you'll see that from Adam until after Jesus' paid the price everyone was spiritually dead. Jesus was slain before the foundation of the world in God's sight, but in the natural it hadn't taken place yet. If it had then Adam would not have been spiritually dead.

Ricky ,jesus was slain before the foundation of the world anyone who put their trust in God could be born again and saved if this is not true then how could Jesus forgive sins and heal before he shed his blood on calvary now we have to believe on Jesus but God has always saved those who trusted in him. hes a God of the living not the dead.

If I understand correctly, the OT saints were save by grace through faith in God and his promises of a saviour to come. Obedience to God was proof of their faith. Hebrews 11:4-40
I agree the HS would come upon a person and leave.

Betty check out what Bruce wrote it is correct, but don't just believe either of us. Check it out in the Word for yourself. It's always good to do so.

Exzucuh, before Jesus' death, burial, and resurrection NO ONE was born-again. They were still under the law and spiritually dead. The Spirit of the Lord came upon them temporarily, but they were still spiritually dead themselves. They couldn't get saved without a Savior. Hebrews 9:22, w/o the shedding of blood there is no remission of sins.

Jesus is the Son of God he has his own spirit, it is one with his fathers Spirit, it is Gods will that we be one as the Father and the Son are one the Fathers Spirit bears witness of the Son and that witness in us is the spirit of his Son crying Abba Father,it is the Spirit that gives life the flesh profiteth nothing.

How many lions can you put into an empty cage. 1 after that the cage is no longer empty.

So if I understand correctly you can be born again without the HS comming into one self?

Before the HS was sent, people were under the old law. Peter was not born again when Jesus breathed on him, He believed long before that.

In John 20:22 Jesus said,"Receive ye the Holy Ghost". And they got born-again. On the day of Pentecost they were filled with or baptised in the Holy Ghost. When you excepted Jesus the Holy Spirit came to live in you.(Romans 8:14-17) The in-filling with or baptism in the Holy Ghost mean the samething. Acts 1:8 talks about it.

PART ONE:
Mima,

Here is an object lesson that may help:

On a table have an empty glass and pitcher of water. The empty glass represents the unconverted and the water represents the Holy Spirit. When a person is born again, the Spirit of God comes into them. I Cor 12:13. (pour water into glass) Now the glass with water in it represents the saved individual.

PART TWO:
You are not a Christian unless the Spirit of God is in you Romans 8:9, "Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his." The first people to receive the Holy Spirit in them is recorded in John 20:22.
---Bruce5656 on 4/7/06

PART THREE:
John said "He will baptize you with fire and with the Holy Ghost" Baptize means to place fully within. Jesus said Acts 1:5, "For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence." This took place on the Day of Pentecost.
