When a person is in intercessor prayer they may or may not know who they're praying for. Most of the time I know who I am interceding for, no one has asked me to be in intercessor for them, but I feel a burden to pray for them. For some unknown reason I am very expectant of an answer to intercessor prayers.

interceding is praying on anothers behalf. At times I have planned times of intercession, and at other times, the Holy Spirit prompts, even overwhelms with an urgency. One night the Spirit woke me with a deep grieving and prayed for a newborn. I did not know that this baby's life was at stake at that moment, and all believed the baby would die. I found out about the specifics the next day. Praise God, despite all the doctors said, the baby was healed.

Interceding is simply praying for another person and his/her needs.

It's one way of "bearing one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ."

Apostol Paul tells about one fervent intercessor:"Epaphras, who is one of you, a bondservant of Christ, greets you, always labouringfervently for you in prayers, that you may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God." (Col. 4:12)

Intercession is a deep, deep place of prayer. The desire to intercede is preceded by a strong burden for the situation. Sometimes the burden comes from within because it is a situation we are close to. Other times the burden comes upon us supernaturally by the Lord. It is a prompting, like Christina said, where we strongly sense the need to pray about a specific situation.

Interceeding is many things but I'll touch on one that is not spoken of to often. When we forgive someone for the wrong they have committed to us, that sin is forgiven in heaven. That is one very important intercession. John 20;23, Matt. 16:19

Interceeding is praying on behalf of somone else. This does not happen by accident. It is something you choose to do.
