Was Jesus Married

What is so wrong about Christ being married? I feel like it makes sense, and I like the idea. I think that God is also married and he respects Heavenly Mother so much he won't allow her exsistance to be known because he won't allow Her to be mocked and abused like He is.

If Jesus Christ had been married would it have made his life and sacrifice less important?

Why can't "Christians" think outside the box? Read the question! God gave us minds, He encourages us to think. There is no biblical "proof" and perhaps that is the intent.
---Tammy on 11/18/07

Carl, this is a catch 22. it does not say it in the 66 books in the bible, but there are thousands of books not included. have you read them all in detail to base your opinion. that is all it is, conjuncture. what would you do, if a book comes forth and is proven to be written by Paul and he says Jesus married Mary Magdelene. Would it destroy your faith in God. the 66 books in the bible are not all there is for us to read about Jesus Christ. Rome decided which ones would be included in the bible.
---ashley on 6/6/07

no JESUS was not married. no where in GODS holy word will you find even the slightest hint that he was. As for GOD being married that also is not supported by scripture
---carl on 6/6/07

I really don't know who asked this question, but it was not me.

Our Father, who art in heaven
hallowed be thy Name,
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done,

God is not married.

Mormons believe that there is a Heavenly Mother as well as a Heavenly Father.

That all the people of earth who lived or will live are actual spiritual offspring of God the Eternal Father (Num. 16:22; Heb. 12:9). Parenthood requires both father and mother, whether for the creation of spirits in the premortal life or of physical tabernacles on earth. A Heavenly Mother shares parenthood with the Heavenly Father. LDS believe that she is like him in glory, perfection, compassion, wisdom, and holiness.
---sam on 6/6/07

In 1909 , Joseph F. Smith, "man, as a spirit, was begotten and born of heavenly parents, and reared to maturity in the eternal mansions of the Father," as an "offspring of celestial parentage," and further teaches that "all men and women are in the similitude of the universal Father and Mother, and are literally the sons and daughters of Deity" (Smith, pp. 199-205).
---sam on 6/6/07

Belief that there is a Mother in Heaven who is a partner with God in creation and procreation is not the same as the Roman tradition.

The mormon belief in a living Mother in Heaven is implicit in Latter-day Saint thought. Presidents of the church over the years indicate that human beings have a Heavenly Mother as well as a Heavenly Father.
---sam on 6/6/07

"The Mormons believe all men were born in the spirit world of the union of the sexes, having a literal father and a literal mother before coming to this world, that the spirits are just the same in appearance as the body, that God is a married Being, has a wife at least, as Jeremiah said the angels were offering incense to the queen of heaven. Mormon believe that God is an exalted Man, and we are the offspring of Him and His wife. (April 15, 1884, Salt Lake Herald)" (Gospel Truth, Vol. 1, p.129)
---sam on 6/6/07

Joseph Fielding Smith

Question: "Will you please give us the background of the 'theory' advanced of 'a Mother in Heaven'?
"Answer: In answer to your question about a mother in heaven, let us use reason.
It may be true that the Bible does not speak of a mother in heaven, nor does the D&C when speaking of the revelations of the Lord to the Church."
---sam on 6/6/07

Permit me to call attention to the fact that mothers and wives are seldom mentioned in the Bible, although they are on certain occasions. The fact that there is no reference to a mother in heaven either in the Bible, Book of Mormon or D&C, is not sufficient proof that no such thing as a mother did exist there. If we had a Father, which we did, for all of these records speak of him, then does not good common sense tell us that we must have had a mother there also?
---sam on 6/6/07

Well technically, Emcee is right, Jesus did come to claim a bride, but not a single human female with which to procreate. We are the Bride of Christ and He is our Groom and we are to feast upon the marriage supper of the Lamb.
---lorra8574 on 6/6/07

You are sick. The Son of God, Jesus Christ, did not come to get married, to get drunk not even to bring peace. I am not going to explaine why He came because I don't believe that you are a true believer and I don't believe you really care. You are wanting to make my Savior into an ordinary man and He was not. He is God and a Holy God. And you are SICK.+++
---catherine on 6/6/07

Man-mad gods were made in the image and likeness (and flawed character) of man. Such gods did marry and procreate and dallied with humans to produce demi-gods.

Our God is not like that, and it would have been grossly irresponsible for the Son of God to marry and procreate with a human when He knew He was not going to be around on earth to help raise that child. Further, to risk a demi-god and thus create a raise of superhumans would be unseemly outside of Homer's poems.

Is the Devil Married ---Yes look around & see if you can distinguish the spawn around you-- weeds--- From the truth in Mankind. The Gospel says "By their Fruits you will know them".Just pick the edible fruit!!!!
---Emcee on 6/4/07

This is a catch 22 blog. No truth on either side can be proved. The 66 books in the bible do not mention it. There are hundreds of other books not included in the bible, that are just as true. Just remember, Rome decided what would be used. Do you really think they would let books be printed in the bible canon that destroy all the catholic church doctrines. If we had everything written by Peter, Paul, etc, this question would not appear here. We would know the truth beyond a shadow of a doubt.

alan, We do not believe everything that we hear nor everything that is written nor everything that is said. I know the things that are said about different religions and different churches, some are true and some are not. Look at how much that many so-called Christians call me base names and how much they bear false witness and accuse me and malign much of what I say. Some I do not even bother responding to anymore. It is up to each believer to seek the truth for themself, and to cleave to it.

Linda - You ask why none of us used Scripture to back up what we believe ... I'd like to ask - Why did YOU not use Scripture yourself?

Indeed, Eloy, you are so right: "ideas are a dime a dozen, and so are many fantasies and dreams; however likeable, they are fabrications of imaginations, and mere fables of delusions without truth.
So are many of the things said about the Roman church, and about the fundamentalist church, and about all grades between. And all said by other Christian churches!!

First - I do not believe Jesus was married.
Second - I do believe that perchance he was married there would have been evidence to that fact.
Third - This blog is easily found on the internet. I found it. Why have none of you used any scripture to back up your belief or your faith?
---Linda on 5/29/06

We Christians help this idea of 'Jesus being married to Mary M' by talking too much about it. Once when Jesus' case came before the Sanhadrin, the cheif said, "Many leaders arose before Jesus and they all disappeared without a trace. So, if Jesus is human, he too will disappear. But, if He was truly from Heaven, we can't fight against God". We must have the same attitude. Just leave the mater alone and soon it will be forgoten. - Robert

"Myself", even if Jesus decided to get married, he'd still have a pure heart. It would not have changed my admiration of Christ if he were married but He was not and if He were, the Bible would have stated so.

We're giving this topic so much importance because a silly person decided to write a fictional book and make a movie about it.

Jesus was never been married in human flesh like we are did, in fact, his birth indicates no human intercourse like a couple does but of a virgin birth showing his deity, and even he was been tempted sore for 40 days and 40 nights he did no sin, with no controversy he was God manifest in the flesh, Jesus is holy and a just one. I tim 3:16, Luke 1:35
---francis on 5/22/06

As in heaven on earth, The Holy Spirit is our Heavenly Mother. Jesus can't have two fathers.
---Maria_7595 on 5/22/06

No evidence exist for Jesus being married. One thing to consider is the royality of Europe wanted to bolster their claim for authority over everyone. The myth of a Christ bloodline that ran happen to conveniently run through them bolstered that claim, thus the myths were held up. This myth over 100's of years evolved into the 'divine right of Kings' which our founding fathers laughed at. Jefferson; "If Kings rule by divine right, let them rule in heaven, but by God they won't rule me!"

From Genesis to Revelation there were prophetic writings of the Messiah being the One to be the Propitiation for the sin of mankind. There are no recorded scriptures which indicates Christ in marital bliss. How can a Holy Christ be mixed up with such a sin! God was in Christ. Jesus is in fact very God, a Holy One. According to Matthew 1:23, His name "Emmanuel" means "God with us."
---nera on 5/22/06

The problem with this theory is that it shows a lack of Biblical knowledge. Jesus IS married. He is married to the ones whom he is committed and those who accept His invitation. To Christians the Bride of Christ. If He was married to Mary M - it would make him an adulterer and a bigamist. Besides, there is ZERO evidence for it.

Was Jesus married? Don't know Bible never says one way or the other we just assume that He wasn't. does it make a difference in my salvation and going to Heaven? No. Jesus was God in a human body and He had human emotions. Just read about his final hours in the garden before his arrest, asking to take this cup away from Him. He didn't want to die but he knew that he had to.And one of the strongest human emotions is to live.
---Rob on 5/22/06

1. Human sexuality is not a sin in itself. Abuse and extremes can result causing hurt and pain to others which would be sin. Sexuality is a natural part of being human. For a man and a woman who are spiritually committed to each other (equally yoked/marriage), it is a beautiful gift to share. There are no Biblical scriptures that indicate whether Jesus was married or not married. The Bible does not provide a definitive answer; which should tell us something........maybe it is irrelevant.
---Grace on 5/22/06

It is said that -in sin shall a woman conceive. So are you saying that Jesus married and had sex...not true as he was the spotless Son of God and in Him was no sin. He was a sinless sacrifice to bring us to Him. His Bride is the Church.
---Eunice on 5/22/06

Mima, sex isn't an imperfection. It was created by God. Adultery is an imperfection though. Matthew 19:12 talks about eunuchs.
---Rickey on 4/27/06

Outrageous statements like this are only possible when we insist on treating Jesus Christ as an ordinary man. Just as Jesus Christ divined nature was perfect so also was his physical nature perfect. Another words his devine nature kept his physical nature from imperfections such as sex, too much food or drink etc.

Rachel I think God keeps "Heavenly Mother" a secret because He is ashamed of her.
She would havta be at least 6000 years old or maybe Millions of billions as some others believe.
Maybe the Grand Canyon is just a wrinkle in her face and I got my truck stuck in her facial mud pack last year.
I don't have any proof of any of this but I still have more than you do.
Plus I am still on my medication... give it a thought. Thanks from all of us.
---Elder on 4/23/06

#2-Rachel--Seriously, read Matt. 19:1-12. Jesus is teaching his disciples about marriage and divorce. After hearing the conditions for both, the men respond in surprise "if this be the case... it is not good to marry!" Then Jesus teaches about various types of eunuchs (castrated men) saying there are some "which have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heavens sake" He explains that this is not for everyone. Jesus, tho not a literal eunuch, gave up everything for the Kingdom.
---Donna2277 on 4/23/06

#1 Rachel--It's almost certain Jesus was not married. The Bible gives no hint of it. Anyway, just think, the wife would hardly ever have time to spend with Him alone. He was always somewhere helping others and spending time with the "guys";-) Think Jesus would have wanted to be a better husband than that.. Also, how would you like to be married to a man who really WAS perfect, instead of one who just thought he was? (just kidding, fellows). As for God, He is complete in Himself. He has NO needs.
---Donna2277 on 4/23/06

Jesus was never married. It wouldn't make sense. Because he devoted all of his time helping others and obeying God. It would have been hard for Jesus to have a spouse because with her having a carnel mind, she wouldn't understand Jesus at all. There is no mother nature, it is all God.

Rachel ... to whom is God married?
---alan8869_of_UK on 4/23/06

(2) Only a fleshly mind which can't comprehend the depth of God's Spiritual Purpose would try to bring who Christ was/is,and why He lived,to give us salvation, down to a human/fleshly level. The idea of Christ having a wife is nothing but conjecture, arrived at by connecting unrelated events to that purpose, but without concrete evidence to back that shallow, weak, Spiritually undermining theory up with fact. It is like smoke on the air,it rises, but is blown away, because it has no substance.
---Darlene_1 on 4/23/06

(1) Marriage is for the purpose of bringing two people together in love to "multiply" to bring forth a new generation. Why? It is all for the Kingdom of God,that people will receive Christ and serve God. We who follow God are all His children,He doesn't need a wife to give Him offspring. Every person who accepts Christ becomes the Church and is part of the Bride of Christ. Christ had a mission, it was Spiritual not fleshly procreation, but a Spiritual Rebirth.
---Darlene_1 on 4/23/06

Scripture never mentioned anything about Jesus being married while he was living on earth. The Church (all people who are have believed in Jesus as their saviour)is the bride of Christ. This is not a sexual relationship. Ephesians 5:23-32 Revelation 21:9 \ 22:17

#2 Rachel--Seriously, Read Matt Chap 19:1-12. Here Jesus is teaching His disciples about marriage and divorce. Their surprized response to His teaching is that if all that is true "it is not good to marry"! Jesus then talks about differnt types of eunuchs (castrated men). He says some "have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven's sake." Jesus acknowledges that this is not for all, but I think, tho not a literal eunuch, Jesus is expressing His choice of lifestyle.

God said that the secret things belong to Him while those things that are revealed belong to us and to our children. When we neglect what He has revealed, and focus on ideas, speculation, and theories of what He has not, then Satan suggests that which is not true. Man ends up denying what He has revealed. The wisdom of man is foolishness with God. To the law and to the testimony, if they speak not according to this word, there is no light in them and if the light in us be darkness, how great it is.
