"And Jesus, well, He does the choosing."

Andh his choice is" WHO-SO-EVER-WILL"

catherine: "I looked it up."

There is a huge difference between just looking it up and understanding it.

Come to HIM in faith and HE will give you a change of mind. The old will be gone , the new will come. Praise God.

True conversion can only be accomplished through the Blood of Jesus Christ. Many believes they are on the road to heaven and and will end up in hell. Scripture... I looked it up. And to shorten it...If that were the case of what you are speaking of...faith would be nothing more than the recognition of revealed evidence. Jesus died, shed His blood at the hands of wicked men in power. He did not look human when they finished with Him. No my friend it takes much more than sitting in church and hearing the word. It takes the Blood. And Jesus, well, He does the choosing.

Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.

Definately, we not only have to hear and understand, we have to recieve and believe. Ro 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.Ro 10:10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Many people hear and may even understand, but if they don't get it into there heart, they are only tasting of the Word of salvation.

"Then answered Peter, Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? And he commanded them to be baptized in the Name of the Lord." Acts 10:47,48.

I agree with previous response, The gospel teaches us we must hear then believe, then repent and accept christ that he died for your sins, that he is the son of God that he rose form the dead.undestanding don,t get you nothing, you must believe first.

The question is, what type of belief are we talking about? Many non christians belief that Christ is real, born of a virgin, and some even believe he is the son of God. This belief must come from the heart. Belief that is rooted in real childlike love.

No. Hearing and understanding is not the samething as being saved. Satan hears and understands, and he also believes in Jesus Christ, but he's still not saved. Conversion comes only after repenting, only after giving your life and will up to the Lord. Whatever a person holds on to, cannot be converted by God.

This is clearly dealt with in scripture.
Acts 10:44, "While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word."

In the middle of his sermon, the people listening believed and were saved and filled with the Holy Spirit.
No"sinner's prayer"
No altar call,
No public confession,
No baptism.
Acts 16:31, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved"

No, hearing is not the same as believing the Gospel. In vs Mark 4:10-12 Jesus is explaining to his disciples why he taught in parables. Only believers could understand the heavenly (spiritual) meaning of Jesus' stories. Vs.11 And he said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all these things are done in parables.

Aww, come on folks! Malarkey! You shout "It's FREE, it's FREE!"...Then in the same breath, "All you have to do is this, this, and this. It's so simple!" Do you not see any contradictions in these statements? Belief (faith) is a gift, not something we have to work up within ourselves. Yes, faith comes by hearing and hearing from the Word of God.

James 2:19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. 20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?

We must love Christ. Hearing, understanding, believing is not enough. It must be love and then you will become obedient, not because you have to but desire to.

The evil spirits even believe in Christ: Acts 19:15 And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye? Luke 4:34 Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art; the Holy One of God. ...41 And devils also came out of many, crying out, and saying, Thou art Christ the Son of God. And he rebuking them suffered them not to speak: for they knew that he was Christ.

The Bible says that one has to HEAR the gospel. Then one has to believe the gospel. Then those who believe were told to "Repent & be baptised for the remission of sins", and another verse says to confess Jesus. All of those things are required according to the Bible.

It is as easy as ABC- Admit you are a sinner (everyone is). Believe (place your total trust in another) that Jesus paid for your sins. Confess your sins to God and ask His forgiveness and accept His FREE gift.

Can't find the verse off the top of my head, but it goes something like: "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and be saved."

"Without faith it is impossible to please God..."

I think we have to go at least one step further than hearing and understanding. We have to take a faith action step and believe.
