This is a touchy subject/answer, but I will speak from the bible. According to scripture, yes. I wear headcoverings /snoods ,but it was & is between God & myself .Women need to take this before the Lord & let him answer it. God is the same yesterday, today & forever.
Ch 11 was not for that time period only, if IT WERE then so would the rest of ch 11 dealing with the Lords Supper. IT ALL goes together, but the women must take this to God for each is on their own walk with him.

From what was said to me when I got married was that as a mother and/or a wife, there are so many things to pray about that one should always wear a head covering for one never knows the time that prayer will be needed. I know that there is a verse in the bible about a woman wearing a head covering but offhand I don't know in which book of the bible it is.

after many years and with age comes wisdom I have found a deeper desire to come closer with god. I feel that alot of the problems with the world is that we have forgotten the rules of the Bible and frist one is women covering their heads. I for one have started covering my head not only in church but cover every day. I show respect for my husband and to my god and christ.I'm the only one in church who covers and thats ok maybe others will follow I can only pray.

I didn't think all prostitutes shaved their heads, i knew that some did in the Greek areas, but as far as I knew Hebrew prostitutes didn't. I think they just exposed their faces so all could see, which is why the head coverings were important. *note both are instances of questionable charactor either why*

It's a cultural thing. It was always a cultural thing (even in scripture) in the cultures that women didn't wear head coverings they didn't have to. Just like long hair was a cultural thing. and about everything else in the bible about women. It doesn't always apply.

I think it is wrong to wear a head covering to church and not wear one the rest of the week because it shows a seperation of religion and life. Every aspect of our life should reflect our faith. So if someone came to church with a head covering and I knew that they didn't wear one the rest of the time I'd probably ask them to take it off because it would be a distraction from Christ.

Veil of Honor.
Veil of Chastity.

Pretty aggressive advice Terry for someone not using the tools for which you condescend to others. Try a little compassion. Faking it usually shows through.

In that time, women with shaved heads were prostitutes or adulterers. Their head covering (hair) had been removed to denote their station. That particular church had a group of them constantly disrupting the service. You have to study the whole story, not just a few verses in context with that time in history. Get a Greek/Hebrew study bible and concordence.

A women should not pray or prophesy in church with her head shaven or shorn. That's a brush cut or bald. It is a shame for a man to have long hair. Long hair is the glory of a woman. Hair is the covering.

Jack-- I've been to several American Protestant churches (other than Episcopal)in which women are expected to wear a head covering. I may be mistaken, but I believe that many Mennonite Churches still practice this too.

The veil & obedience. The veil shows obedience to men, their institutions and authority. As a servant of men, you cannot serve Christ. The veil is a distortion. Hair is the covering. Do men allow women to pray and prophesy in church? The veil assures their oppression to obedience.

Our hair is as our covering and Paul said the churches have no such custom. The veil, or covering is actually an unseen type and shadow of the covering of the Spirit of God upon the church. The church should not pray or prophesy without being in subjection to our Lord's will and having the covering of his Spirit. Still in all, I would be willing to veil myself if my pastor thought it showed obedience or a desire to please Jesus.

There is quite a bit of old Christian literature on this subject (summarized in Bercot's COMMON SENSE). The disagreement was at what point/age females were expected to cover their heads. Some said it was at marriage, or reaching a marriagable age. Tertullian, in his work ON THE VEILING OF VIRGINS, said it applied to ALL females.

The Roman Catholic Chuch is not the only church that required women to cover their heads.

So, at one time, did the Episcopal Church. It's still requiredin many Eastern Churches.

The Bible is VERY clear about women covering their heads when praying or prophesying, but American Christians go out of their way to make the clear Word of God of none effect by their traditions and explaining it away.

The RCC used to require that a woman's head be covered when in church. Most used lace scarves or smaller round lace coverings. I've been out of the RCC so long, I don't know if that is still a requirement or not.

To cover the head, to not cover the head. To shout and dance, to quietly meditate. To go to church on Saturday, to go to church on Sunday. To tithe, to not tithe. New Testament only, entire Bible. Long hair, short hair, pants, dresses, makeup, no makeup, jewelry, no jewelry. Pre-trib, mid-trib, post-trib.......AMAZING! All this within the ranks, while the world is dying and going to hell by the millions :(

I would also like to add that the hair is NOT the only covering, they are speaking of a covering over the head also. If you read Vines Expository Dictionary under "Cover, covering" 1cor 11:15 is the actual veiling, not the hair itself.

A head covering for a woman shows subjection to first Christ and then her own husband. I am a minister of the Word and I wear a head covering, expecially when I am giving out the Word of God. I want what ever I speak to be God's words and not mine. It is a reminder that He is in control and not me. I agree, it is a personal thing between you and God. Incidently, a man's head should not be covered when in service to the Lord.

I noticed in the muslim religion, women cover their head respectfully when they pray..i feel we all should as well in respect of Yaweh/Jehovah altho the womens hair is their head covering..its very respectful to do so
---jana on 5/7/06

Yes. The covering for the woman is the man. That is why women ministers are to have their husband as their covering or ,if unmarried, their pastor.
---Rickey on 5/7/06

A woman should have her head covered, when she prays. Her hair is her covering.
1Corinthians 11:5,6,10,13,15 But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering.

Back in the 1980s, my pastor preached on this subject, and pretty soon, all of the women were wearing hats and prayer caps, as the Mennonite women do. I don't go to that church any longer, but am praying about returning to the practice of wearing a head covering to church.
---Madison on 5/7/06

The answer is yes. 57 years ago I visited Mexico City with my parents, and we visited a great cathedral on the main plaza of Mexico City. At that time all women had to have their head covered to enter the church even with only a handkerchief. The last time I was in Mexico City about six or seven years ago this was no longer true. But older women still cover their heads today.
