In the Westminster shorter catechism it says Question 1) What is the chief end of man? Answer. Mans chief end is to glorify God,and to enjoy him forever.
Matthew 10:37-39, John 8:42, John 14 / Matthew 22:37-40, Mark 12:29-31 / Matthew 22:21, Mark 12:17, Luke 20:25 / 2Corinthians 13:14.

These ARE the Lords Words, so take notice:
Luke 12:
4 And I SAY unto YOU my friends, Be NOT afraid of THEM that KILL the BODY, and AFTER that have NO MORE that they can DO.

5 BUT I will FOREWARN you WHOM ye SHALL FEAR: Fear him, which AFTER HE hath KILLED hath POWER to cast into HELL, yea, I SAY unto YOU, FEAR HIM.
Please dont use the other scriptures about fear to rebuttle these words of our Lord.

You do at the risk of angering God,
Thats part of mans problem, they think God wont spank them for Wrongdoing or be held
"Accountable for their actions" anymore because they say that they Love Jesus now.

Push evil from you when it raise's it ugly head!

If man could make it to the kingdom of God(Heaven), by not hurting anyone, Yahshua/Jesus wouldn't have had to die for our sins.

Because of one mans(Adam)sin,
sin entered the world, and by one man(Jesus), the sins of the world are taken away!
---YLBD on 8/25/09

My problem is how can we be punished based on Human Nature, if god is so loving he would understand that we people ask questions and find new ways, There should not be a fear of god, and I will not be scared into buying into a buisness based on fear.

W I D E is the path that leads to Destruction!
The "advantage" IS You won't be tossed into the Lake of Fire on J-Day!

If a persons NOT washed in the Blood of the Lamb of God(Jesus), Their IS NO Salvation for him.

Jesus IS the ONLY way, To say otherwise IS calling God a Liar!

IF being "GOOD" was sufficient enough for going to Heaven, JESUS wouldn't have came here AND DIED the way HE DID.

The advantages to having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ include being free from sin's desires, and Satan's reign in your life. It is being loved with an everlasting love, and having the presence of God living within you just because He loves you. It is experiencing the peace that passes all understanding. Those are just a few of the benefits of being a Christian.
---Madison1101 on 8/25/07

Sue: Are you boasting that you said it first? A million people have said it during all history. Besides, one person may not have understook it the way you said it, but another person might have said it just a little different and understood. You're the type of person who will read the same verse over and over again thinking that it must mean something else.
---Steveng on 2/15/07

Know Christ, be Loved by him, and Love Him, and your life will be filled with joyful, spiritual blessings.

Fear Him so that you don't allow sin to conquer you, and Hope in Him during the times he doesn't seem to be there - but is.

So at the end of the day it is about living out the Love of God - leading to spritual happiness in this life - and, ultimately, salvation in the next.

Take care.
---Ed on 2/15/07

Why should you become a Christian? Why should you not? Well I become a Christian because of a miracle. God healed my grandson of Lukemia, after the doctors told us he would be dead in three days. We cried out to the King of Kings and The Lord of Lords. Two days later he was in his front yard playing, completely cured of cancer. God is my Father and He takes care of all my needs better than my earthly father could ever do, also I am assured I will be in Heaven and have enternal life. Are you ?
---barba6694 on 2/15/07

Chestnut; When I first came to God, I didn't say okay Lord heal me first then save me afterwords. The bible says God doesn't hear sinners, but if he was a worshipper then God will hear them. A sinner isn't going to worship God, so God don't hear them unless they convert over to God. Psalms 66:18. God doesn't hear sinners unless asking for forgiveness. God heard everyone that ask to be forgiven of their sins.
---Rebecca_D on 2/14/07

Look up where the Lord said the fields are already white unto the harvest. Abraham received the promise while uncircumcised. The Lord told Peter what God hath cleansed (past tense) call not common or unclean. All of these show he died for us while we were yet sinners and in unbelief as well as the direct words he died for us while we were yet sinners.
---Frank on 2/14/07

Rebecca-show me in scripture where it says that.He died for us while we were yet sinners. We don't tell someone to go and clean up and then talk to God.I've seen too many instances in which an unsaved person prayed to God and He answered. If you can find something in scripture to back up your statement you might persuade me.John 9:31 was not good enough by itself.
---chestnut_burr on 2/14/07

Rebecca ... are you sure?
Jesus healed the lepers ... they were not Christians and were not saved.
Could it not still be the same nowadays?
---alanUKquent64534 on 2/14/07

You do not have to do anything you do not want to do. God does not force anything on us. If you do not feel a need for Christ in your life then continue to do what you have always done. But do believe this: you and I need to make a decision as to where we want to spend eternity. The choices are: heaven or hell. Your choice.

Steve, thats just what I'm talking about, "when you die, you will know".
So, the whole thing is: you beleive in God, and want to have a close relationship with HIm is so that when "you die, you will know" the great love He has for us. right? is this what you're saying? I just said it with less words.
---sue on 2/14/07

The reason why this man couldn't ask Jesus to heal him is because he couldn't because he was a sinner and God don't hear sinners praying unless they want God to come into their hearts (get saved).
---Rebecca_D on 2/14/07

Ed, I was responding directly to the blog question. Pascal's wager is this - if you believe in God and you are right, you gain Heaven, if you are wrong, you are worm food. If you reject God and you are right, you are worm food, but if you are wrong, you gain Hell. Blaise Pascal figured the risks were less and benefits greater if he chose to believe in God.
---lorra8574 on 2/13/07

Rebecca-#1-do you realize that the scripture in John that you gave me is a quote given by the Pharisees to point out that Jesus was not of God because Jesus healed a blind man on the sabbath? These were the very men that Jesus called liars and thieves. If you read the entire chapter of John 9 you will see that Jesus healed the blind man without he even asking to be healed, that HE may be glorified.I don't see how this backs what you think,do you have another scripture that makes more sense?

Chestnut; yes. The bible says that God does not hear a sinner praying unless they are repenting. John 9:31-33. A sinner can't pray for a friend and expect God to hear, because that sinner is none of his. Now if the sinner is praying for God to come in and save him/her then God hears that prayer.
---Rebecca_D on 2/13/07

Selfish reasons.

Most of the posts on this blog are selfish in nature - "so you don't go to hell."

The reason to become a Christian is to have a close and intimate relationship with your creator - God. Combine all the love on Earth and throughout history and you have one pebble of sand. God's love for you covers all the beaches of the world. You may not comprehend this immence love, but when you die as a Christian you will know.
---Steveng on 2/13/07

Sue, I fear God.
But sometimes i think that some Christians (without even knowing this is the impression they create) think God is some distant, nebulous figure playing tricks on us. I believe (for my own sake) that He is giving us chances and opportunities to mend our ways all the time. But that, first and foremost, we must know Him, and be in a Loving union with him Now. Faith is important. Hope is important. But only Love can, in the end defeat sin, and lead to salvation. The Love of God.
---Ed on 2/13/07

Connor, because you want to be MORE than a conqueror through Jesus, you want God's blessings poured out upon your life. You want to know God, and how awesome He will be to you if you love him with all of your heart and soul. God will turn every evil situation that happens to you around for your good.
If you live life as you please, "the wages of sin is death." Don't you want to spend eternity in heaven? It's your choice. God is much better than anything you will ever experience apart of Him.

Ed, I'm just being honest. I may be totally wrong but if there were NO heaven and NO hell, then how many Christians would sacrifice anything to be a good Christian?I think most Christians follow their religion because they want ever lasting life. Otherwise, people can be good without believing in God.
---sue on 2/13/07

If God calls you into a life of living with Him now and through out eternity, Well now, you have also escaped HELL. ISN'T that great?
---catherine on 2/13/07

Lorra, not sure if you are talking to me. Of course faith is important and obeying the rules of your faith, i was just refering to Corinthians 13, i think it is, the famous passage: "but if you have no love ..."
---Ed on 2/12/07

The idea that everything is fine so long as you do not hurt anyone is risky. Many people have closed their minds to how what they do affects others. The Ten Commandments and Jesus two point summary of them, is far more effective. Then there is the matter of Pascal's Wager. Blaise Pascal was a brilliant man - google him.

Sue, yes we must fear God, but equally we must enjoy all the blessings He sends our way. And most importantly - everything else is meaningless - we have to get to know and engage with, God - through prayer and self-sacrifice - in a loving union. Jesus said that the core message of his ministry was that we should love God with all our might and love our neighbour.

Your bonds with other people will be more real and deep. I might have been happier, in a worldly sense, before i believed in God (17 years ago), but spirtitual happiness feels about a billion times better. "Love your God with all your might, and love your neighbour" and God will bring you untold blessings and happiness. God Bless!

IT is not the Christians that is messing everything up, My friend. It is the wicked people in this land and in this world. For the most part Christians are staying out of politics, And out of alot of issues that matters. And this means that God has also been pushed aside. This is a huge mistake. Just look all around you ,all that you see is evil lurking. Makes me want to through up all over you.

So you're a pagan or witch in training.

Christians are free. You need us to make your transformation.

Not by power, not by might, but by My Spirit says the Lord Jesus Christ.

If Christians didn't have the Power, the Might, and the Holy Spirit, you wouldn't need us. Your mocking reinforces that every knee will bow, every mouth will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.
---Cindy on 2/11/07

GEF, I will answer you. God chooses us. We say yes because He convicts through our spirits that we are going to die and go to Hell. SO, I didn't want to die and go to HELL. I didn't go to God He came to me. What more I can I SAY. I barely escape Hell, hallelujah.

A few weeks ago, I had a kidney stone. Instead of blasting the stone, the DR decided to go up with a scope and just grab it because I have one kidney. That evening I came home, I tried three times to go to the bathroom, I couldn't. My husband rushed me to the ER and I had to go to back to the hospital that done the surgery, by and ambluance. I was petrified. I couldn't pee. My kidney was fine, but the uretra tube that goes to the bladder was swollen. The catherder didn't work. CONT
---Rebecca_D on 2/11/07

CONT: The DR had to put in a stint so I could pee. I said all of that to say this, I am a Christian, a born again child of God. I was able to call upon God myself. I didn't have to have someone else to pray for me, (they did) but I was able to pray for myself. A sinner can't pray for themselves or anyone else. It is a privilage to call upon God when you need him. Thanks to be to God, I'm fine now. And yet you wonder why you should be a Christian?
---Rebecca_D on 2/11/07

Joseph has a great answer from the Word. I just wish to add one thought, and that is the idea that you can live as you please and not hurt anyone is false, a deception often used to decieve. Sin is destructive, leading to death, and hurts the sinner as well as those around the sinner, possibly leading them into death also. It may not be obvious since the sinner does not have light to see unless given by God. Seek HIM. Bless you.

Well, you shouldn't, unless God calls you into it. The advantages of living here and eternally with God. You are never alone. His company and the communion, talking, and listening,ALWAYS LISTENING, obeying God, it is so hard to explain. Once He really has you, you are His. Glorifying God in everything you do, is why HE SAVES YOU.
---catherine on 2/10/07

When I was child I was afraid of going to Hell. One day when I was older it dawned on me that the 10 commandments were all for our benefit, that the world would be a better place if people kept them, and I loved God for that. Then when I read about Jesus I loved Him and God for sending Him. I go to church to worship and let others know I love Him.
---Virginia on 2/9/07

Why shouldn't you, what are the advantages of living life as you please now and forsaking the true life in Christ? 1 Cor 2:9 "Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither has entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for them that love Him". What shall it profit you, if you shall gain the whole world and lose your soul? Or what shall you exchange for your soul? The Spirit of God is prompting you to except the Fathers salvation, yield. This life is short, eternity is forever.

Since the creation began and the fall of man the human race has continued to question, doubt, and worst of all totally ignore the word of God.My point is this first you must believe God, that he exists, that his word is true. Then your choice will be self explainatory,or you will then have the faith that God gave us all and realize you want to be with him forever. Then the gospel message will no longer be folly but truth to your mind and heart.
---tom2 on 5/31/06

So you Won't go to hell. that is a very good reason. You are hurting worse, by being a sinner. You don't have the word of God to help you, in everyway. When you pray now, God doesn't hear you unless you are repenting. He don't hear sinners. it is a privilage to be able to call upon God. Many can't do that, and it is their own fault. God made us for his glory and for us to worship him, why would anyone want to remain a sinner is beyond me.

"What would it profit a man to gain the whole world & suffer the loss Of his Immortal Soul" Is one of the best reasons for becoming an ardent Christian a follower of Jesus Christ,Nearer My God to thee< for without God we are Nothing; Sin debars us from entering Heaven we are all sinners,Follow me He says I am the way The truth & the Life .
---Impartial_Bystander on 5/28/06

Connor, it seems like the only reason for becoming a Christian has to do with the avoidance of hell. While I am happy to avoid hell my main reason to be a follower of Christ is because it is the right way to live. I am working at having peace in everything in my life here and now. But while I am learning to give it all over to God, I have already been released from so much. That is why I am a Christian.

2) Trust Him enough to give Him a chance, to know Him, and find out how holy and good he trully is.
And I'm asking that you humble yourself enough to give priority to your love for Him and His love for you, as you know Him more, to the less important but tempting pricks of pride and self-aspiration...of everything less important.

Tom, its not the no 1 reason, but Connor all the reasons below: escape from damnation, abundance and fulfilment now, heaven, etc are many reasons you'll win and not lose if you become a Christian. In the long run it will be love for Him who loved you first.
But I am not asking you to suddenly love Jesus more.

Eventually, every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father because every eye will see Him. It is far better to bow the heart and knee now by choice than to have to do it later on by command. The first comes because of love and we love because He first loved us. The other comes because you "have to". Either/or. It's your choice.
---Linda6563 on 5/26/06

Then I would suggest you might have worded your response better with something like this: "my friend, there are many reasons but the main advantage is eternal life with God in heaven after death." (Rather than the "only" advantage.

Aside from that, I suggest that Jesus did not take the same approach in every case.

---alan8869_of_UK on 5/26/06

You should become a Christian because God himself came down to us in mercy.

When he saw that all had truly forsaken him on earth he sent a way for us to be with him unto eternity.

He sent the culmination of his reason and creative power, his very word in human flesh to make a promise just for you and I, and to make himself known to us.

It's as weighty as the law of gravity, it's a law unto itself by those who trust in him for their eternal salvation.

Look at God, who will NEVER betray you.
