I'm not sure that the theif got a "reward". He asked that Christ would remember him, but asking isn't the same thing as receiving. Also, even though Christ said to the theif that he would be with Him "today" in Paradise, we know that the "risen Lord" told Mary that he had "not yet assended to His Father" so apparently though he had died and been resurrected, there is a chance he hadn't yet gone to heaven and "paradise" would then be some place other than heaven

To answer this question let's be clear that reward is different than salation. Salvation is in Jesus, reward is what you get when you go to heaven and it is based on what you have done "in and for Christ." Revelation 22:12.

Whatever the Lord decides to give you as a reward in heaven you will love. why? Because your eyes will be opened to full knowledge and understanding and you will be most grateful just to be there number one, and number two, you won't even feel like you deserve what you will be so wonderful.

Matthew 20:6-9 tells me that those who have been Christians for a very short time before their deaths (and will probably have achieved much less) will get the same reward as those who have been Christians for a long time. Is this what you were referring to or do you have something else in mind?

In this world ... probably not, but he may well be more satisfied and happier and fulfilled
In the next life ... certainly

Donna2277 - That's exactly right! That's why the thief will get a reward! How amazing God is.
---Helen_5378 on 5/29/06

Helen--what a wonderful thought! I've sometimes used the story of the thief on the cross in witnessing. That man, who lived a life of crime, has brought many to the Lord over the years.

3. Giving a person a ride is a good work(in my opinion). A couple gave me a ride today. I was walking from the mall carrying heavy shopping bags, and it was 90 degrees. Visiting shutins and people in hospitals are good works.

Anon, thanks. I believe that the bride of Christ is the true church and the true church is made up of ALL true followers of Christ.

I once heard a preacher say that the thief on the Cross who said "Lord, remember me when you come into Your kingdom" will receive a reward simply because the words he spoke to Jesus have been read and heard ever since, even though he never got a chance to DO any works. Pretty profound and undoubtedly true. Rewards are from God's perspective.

M.P. has it right, there is no greater and lesser person in heaven. In heaven all saints are completely equal, one fold and one single family.

There's only one crown received after this life, the Christian crown of life, all the other godly crowns named in scripture are blessings given to the Christian in this life before the rapture, and they all are blessings present within the same one crown of life. Just as the highest good is love, love for for God and love for your fellow man, and all the other manifold godly attributes named hang from this highest good.

If we suffer for Christ is also another reward. The more the suffering the more the rewards. great work Ulrika. Love the way you put down things for us.

Anon, all New Testament Christians make up the Bride of Christ.
Talents are what we win rewards with. The talent is not the key issue but being faithful is.
The faithful person who has the Gift of helps and keeps the Church clean will receive as much as a the faithful Pastor for his works to the Lord.

As you step out of the house leave with the expectation of seeing God move through you, pray for it at night as you sleep, Believe that YES "through all these things we are more than conquerers through him that loved us" (Romans 8:27)

God has a life for you to touch with his spirit today, and maybe yet today someone for the first time notices the spirit of this person ablaze and untracable like the wind (John 3:8) and seeks God with all of their heart. (Jeremiah 29:13)

2. There are differant crowns.
Crowns of Righteousness 2Timothy 4:8
Crown of Life James 1:12 Revelation 2:10
Crown of glory 1Peter 5:4
Crown of rejoicing 1Thessalonians 2:3
Yes, a person of lesser lalents, etc... can serve Christ by telling others about Christ. We can also pray and give to poor. We can help people. Some give their life for being a Christian and telling people about Christ. These are some of the good works that done for God's glory, not ours. Matthew 6:1-4
---Ulrika on 5/28/06

Rewards are for works. Matthew 16:27 For the son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works. 1Corinthian 3:8 Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour. 9-14 If any man's work abid which he hath built thereupon, he sh all receive a reward. 15 If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire. Peter had a heart after the Lord, but he still failed him and for fear he also denied the Lord 3 times. Yet the Lord led him to amend his faults in John 21:15-19. And in the first 9 chapters of Acts, God uses Peter to win many souls for Christ, and to heal a cripple, heal a man with paralysis, and resurrect a woman from the dead. After this life on earth, every true Christian receives the same reward from God, which is entering into the joy of the Lord and receiving the crown of eternal life in heaven.
---Eloy on 5/28/06

One of the wonderful things about the next life, is that these things no longer matter! We are equal in God's sight. And God looks at the heart.Talents and abilities in this world are from God. We can take no credit. In fact we are told that "to whom much is given, much is required". The unskilled, un-noticed, un-loved who faithfully used the abilities they did have, could easily outshine earthly over- achievers. Achievements may even keep one out of heaven, if they lead to pride.
---Donna2277 on 5/28/06

mp, i love your answer, however this contradicts what others were saying in the Who is the Bride of Christ blog i posted earlier in the week. There it was said, that we all run a race and a few select christians will be chosen as the bride. Do you agree?
