Leave Church To Grow

Recently I heard this statement made by a born-again believing witnessing Christian." It's at the point nowadays where one needs to actually leave church to grow in the Lord." What do you believe about this statement?

Moderator - In some cases it is true as many of the churches are in an apostate condition.

Christian." It's at the point nowadays where one needs to actually leave church to grow in the Lord." What do you believe about this statement?

If that is how you feel, then you were never in the church. It is ONLY in the church that we can grow as we use of gift for the lord, and as we recieve of the gifts which God has for us IN the church.

Acts 2:47 Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.

1 Timothy 3:15 But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.

I think this person means, their talents and gifts for the Lord are not being used in their particular church. And it is true. Sometimes you have to leave and find another church. Or die--spiritually! That can happen. That is the worse thing that can happen to a Christian. Dry up and wither on the vine, so to speak. You have lost your spiritual power and gifting. Some churches do not allow you to do anything. The pastor is very controlling and wants to be the only one in charge. If you speak out, you are looked upon as an outcast and in disobedience. I know many churches like this.

It may say more about the individual saying it--and that more is not good. There IS spiritual delusion, you know.

It depends which church one attends. Many are teaching such untruths that they are doing more harm than good.

This is what Scripture says:

And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some" (Heb 10:24-25)

In the New Testament, God commands us to live in the Holy Spirit every day, and to go out and preach the gospel to every creature, and not just once a week in a church on Sundays for an hour. God is Spirit and is every where. The Lord says that WHEREVER 2 or 3 are gathered together in his name, there he is in the middle of them. Bless the one who finds a faithful church. Unfortunately most churches today have left their first love, and are grown apostate, and have become the synagogues of Satan.

GOD will never lead a person to a 'church' that is not in line with him and his word. I hope you read that statement very carefully and let it sink in. My point?- If you truly sought God on where he wants to plant you, he would put you in the right church. The reason you and other people find all these religious nut-houses is because you're out there "Church-shopping" to find one "you like". God never 'suggested' that you be a part of a local body of believers- he COMMANDED it

I echo the Moderator. "Blessed the man who not goes forward to the counsel of the wicked, nor stand after the way of sinners, nor sit in the seat of mockers." Psalm 1:1.

I felt it necessary to walk as Jesus walked, and Jesus did not walk within a church building (literally) but he lived the teachings through his behavior to others. My spiritual relationship grew through prayer, asking questions to God, and having an open mind to see the answers He provided to me. It is important though to have a community in which to discuss spiritual matters...unfortunately, in many churches there is not room for questions....

No. A person needs to go to church to grow in God. If a person doesn't go to church and they think they are growing in Christ, they aren't fooling anyone, but themselves. Now if the church isn't teaching the word as it should be, then yes it is time to leave to find another church, but by no means don't stay home.

Thank you John. The letter "i" is the center letter of "sin" and "pride". If everything is I, me, my, or mine, then guess who the problem is.

Helen, Paul wnt to Mars hill in Athens, Birthplace of democracy and known for debate. Science is not in the Bible, and this Cyber world is a product of that science, thus is you being here evil? When your kids go to the musium and see the fossils what do you tll them they have seen?

I wonder how it could be possible to quit growing in the Lord just because you were at a meeting that wasn't so great. At the worst, it could be a waste of time but to say that they stop growing in the Lord is absurd. I had a root canal and some fillings and that didn't even stop me from growing in the Lord. People like that are just looking for a good excuse to not get involved. They'll never find one.

Did it ever occur to those of you who don't go to church that it's not all about how YOU like it or want it? The assembly is the place for encouragement. If you don't need it then give some to someone who does. Your attendance there is for others, not just for yourselves. Don't you have anything that you can share with someone? Being as grown up in the Lord as you are, wouldn't you be able to disciple someone?

MikeM - As you have so obviously noted and followed me around on yes there are some things that I do not believe, undoubtedly we all have. But most of all I am against people who try to put into God's word what is not there -- that is very wrong and will lead people astray. God's Word is for us to believe, not debate and pull other people down over.

2/... You also said "This is new to me". Well if it's new it is probably not true... God never adds to His word, neither should we lest we be found liars. You know where liars are going? In the lake of fire... Revelation 21:8. Bless you.

MikeM - Yes Psychology in whatever form it comes is a LIE... it is a very big part of the present apostate church. And I will never recant on that. Jesus told me that I will know the truth and the truth will set me free, well it has. You show me clearly and distinctly where it says in God's Word to consult psychologists or psychiatrists as a born-again believer then I will believe it.
---Helen_5378 on 6/3/06

Helen, your against Psychology as well as dinosaurs? Christian psychologist are well respected. Its a lie? the human mind should not be studied? Its true Frued was a hard core atheist, but the field goes far beyond his theories, which are 50% discarded. In fact the Baptist college near me offers classes in psychology. This is something new to me.

I too have difficulty with the way church has evolved. My memories are of preaching, praying, singing, and praising God from the fullness of the heart.
I'm drained from CONSTANT barrage of requests to travel out of state, purchase tickets/books, and the non ending fundraising beyond tithes and offerings, etc.
I sometimes feel resentful, and I don't want to feel that way. I pray that the Lord will help me decide whats best for me, and my needs as a Christian.
Sometimes I just stay home:(
---lynet on 6/3/06

I agree with that statement. I no longer attend church. The first one I went to teaches Psychology, which is a lie, so I broke from it. The second ... -- gold dust! .. "how wonderful that God blessed her with that on her face and He left it there till next day"...I refuse to go back there too. I believe if I go to a church that I know is teaching wrong would be a worse sin for me than to not go at all. Apostasy is right. My "fellowship" is right here on Christianet.

I agree with the moderator. Sometimes the churches themselves grow so worldly that to get the true word we need to go back to old fashioned Sound Doctrine teaching. this is why Christians need to grow.
