Why should I become a Christian? Isn't God just a crutch for those whom can't handle life on their own?

He is far more than a crutch. It is a lame man who needs a crutch. Jesus didn't come to just prop up a bunch of dead men who can't walk. He came to give us life and that more abundantly. A crutch is something outside of and not a part of a man. Jesus IS the Way, the Truth, and the LIFE and those who believe on Him take on union with Him, not like a man/crutch but as one substance where you can't tell one from the other in the realm of the spirit.

Yes and know, a crutch of salvation to drug addicts and alchoholics, setting them free. Is that so bad?
But above all else, we are all doomed to hell for our sins, and unless we turn to Jesus Christ, Lord, saviour, judge, King, and repent, you will goto hell.

God teaches us to live life on lifes terms, but if we think we are doing so great without His Holy Spirit in us, woe, woe,woe
---Lynn_E._Bedford on 6/22/06

Why shouldn't you? You might just be the one who believes and steps right into what God has wanted to do through His people all along...reveal His Son in His fullness to lost, hurting, broken humanity.
---L.S. on 6/8/06

ultimately the question you have posed is between you and God.the message can be given to you about our lord and Gods plan of salvation, but it,s up to you to believe,or reject the gospel of our lord jesus christ.
---tom2 on 6/7/06

You should become a Christian because Jesus Christ gave His Life that you might have life, abundant life. Jesus is the reason, first and secondly, because if you don't you will suffer eternal judgement and I don't want that for you or anyone. Jesus suffered and died, dear friend. Accept Him into your heart and He will give joy and will strengthen you with His presence.

"The Lord God is my strength. He makes my feet like hinds' feet and causes me to walk upon my high places. To the Chief Singer on my stringed instruments." Even when nothing seems to be going right (Hab.3:17,18), I still have Him as the joy and rejoicing of my heart and I can rejoice in tribulation and trial knowing that my hope, anchor, peace, joy, righteousness, and faithful and true witness abides within. Sue, just taste and see that the Lord is good.

Last post, I promise :)

When someone is nothing more than a crutch, we are still to a degree walking in our own strength. God has no pleasure in the legs of man and desires that we come to such trust in His nature and life that we simply find Jesus walking His life out through us. As long as we are using a crutch, we are still relying on the strength of that other leg along with the crutch.
---Linda6563 on 6/7/06

Sue, let me just say this to you. You may not know it but you are obeying or submitting to something, whether it be sin unto death or obedience unto righteousness. The slavery of sin itself is deceptive to the point that if you don't know you are born a sinner, you may think your good works are enough to earn you life. Behold, I say unto you, you must be born again.

His mercies are new every morning, His love unconditional, and His compassions fail not. One of the greatest discoveries in my life was to find out that I could not pick myself up and had to have one greater than myself do it.
---Linda6563 on 6/7/06

How many of you here believe that being someone's very strength is much, much more than just being an object picked up to lean on for strength...and the whole time still lame? Either we are new creatures in Christ or we are still the old creature trying to get saved, healed, delivered, redeemed. Ah yes...our Jesus, our Savior, our Redeemer, our so much more for He picks us up, not the other way around. In that, He doesn't give us a crutch but imparts Himself as our very life.
---Linda6563 on 6/7/06

AMEN! and again I say AMEN Linda! Keep speaking the truth, the Word, it is a blessing!

John 3:16
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life
Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord
---Kathy on 6/7/06

You cannot become a christian, a christian has to be born again into the kingdom they first must be drawn to Jesus by his Father the Holy Spirit, convicted to repent of their sins and baptized in water as an open confession of their faith in Jesus the Son of God, the rest is up to the Holy Spirit to do a work into your life. If you are convicted obey God.But to answer your question nonchristians will be thrown in the lake of fire with the devil, thats why.

Amen and haleluhah, yes jesus is my crutch, come to me all who are heavy laiden , and I will give you rest.
---tom2 on 6/6/06

You should become a Christian because you see that you are a sinner in desperate need of salvation from the Lord Jesus Christ. Ask God to reveal this to you.
---Helen_5378 on 6/6/06

God is a crutch to alot of people, only need him when things go wrong but put him away when things go fine. If you are compairing your life with God with others then you won't see why you need to become a christian. Just because some people use God, that doesn't mean you have to. God is not a crutch, and it is down right wrong for someone to use him, and abuse his love. If you think this way, you are no different, than others.

part 4...conclusion...NO one can force you to accept Christ but the fact you are asking is a good sign. If God is convicting you or has your interest peaked, take some time to get to know God. Simply, if you want the best life possible...Jesus is the Way.
---Michael on 6/6/06

How about purpose in life? Sure people say...I got my house, car, and etc. I got good job and you enjoy life. Ultimately, you will ask your purpose in life. Point can deny Christ. Withhout Christ, no life is complete. Simply, you can live a full or incomplete life. part 3
---Michael on 6/6/06

How about eternity? You will ask yourself in time, if not now, what happens when I die? You can choose to accept Christ as Savoir or you choose an eternity in hell. There are people who will say...that is nonsense. However, it is up to you want God sentencing you to hell or Jesus giving you heaven's rewards? part2
---Michael on 6/6/06

Sue...good question. Why should someone receive Christ as their Lord and Savoir? Plenty of people live life on a regular basis and do well and live well. Others do not do well nor live well. Ultimately, you will face two things. How about eternity? What is purpose of life? Part 1

this question sounds exactly like me a little more than a year.. how i ever lived without God ill never know.. All i can say Sue is God loves you so much and when you ask Him into your heart and have tasted His faithfulness, your life will never be the same again.
---anon on 6/6/06

If others choose to think that Christianity is a crutch then I'll be walking into Heaven with a crutch - far better than being thrown into hell. BTW none of us were ever intended to 'handle life on our own'. God wants to be a part of every aspect of of everyone life.
---M.P. on 6/6/06

I have never considered God a crutch. Everyone should find out their purpose and God's plan for thier lives. You should become a Christian because once you fall in love with Jesus, you will have the most spectacular love relationship of your life. He will become your husband, your provider, your strength, the healer of your body. He never fails you. He will always causes you to triumph over circumstances. He loves you with an everlasting love.

1Jo 1:6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:
1Jo 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
---Linda6563 on 6/6/06

1Jo 1:3 That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.
1Jo 1:4 And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.
1Jo 1:5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

1Jo 1:1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life;
1Jo 1:2 (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and show unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;)

Jesus died and rose again to free every man, woman, and child from sin, the curse, death, and the grave and to bring us into right relationship with God. That is the heart of have a family He can fellowship with. See, if you are still dead in trespasses and sins, you are not handling Life on your own. You may be handling situations and circumstances, but you are not handling Life. You can't handle Him unless you believe.
