Once Saved Always Saved

Explain the Baptist concept of "once saved always saved." Use scripture to support your answer. My church believes that a saved person can "backslide" into the world and must repent to be saved again. I want to understand the Baptist view - many friends are Baptists.

Moderator - As Christians we are required to repent of our sins, otherwise it is questionable if the person is truly a Christian. The backsliden person needs to repent of their sin not get saved again. Repent means to turn away from the sin. Therefore, if you are truly saved you will repent of your sin.

LUPE2618 James'letter discussing works not mentioned? He had someone accusing him of works.Graces of God to us to perform good works. Catholics are not supposeto sing-AmazingGrace-it is misleading.='How precious did that Grace appear the hour I first believe.'I can't find Him on my own. The song say Grace appear the hour I first believe- saying he believed with his own strength 1st then he obtained Grace. Hisown power. Noone comes to God withoutGrace.

Emcee, I believe you need to understand this facts. You do not know the time when Christ will call your name. Don't you want to make sure? Instead of looking for things to defend your Church, you should be looking for the Truth. We are saved by the grace of God and not by anything we do. Check it out, the Bible does not lie. Jesus Christ is our one and only Mediator, and His promises are true because He does not lie. Just make sure, that is all I ask Emcee, as your friend.

2 Timothy 2:12
If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us:

Titus 1:16
They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.
---Matthew on 4/13/07

Revelation 21:8
8But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

1 Corinthians 10:12
Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.
---Matthew on 4/13/07

A person may have saving faith in Christ, and yet never enjoy an assured hope, like the Apostle Paul. To believe and have a glimmering hope of acceptance is one thing; to have joy and peace in our believing, and abound in hope, is quite another. All God's children have faith; not all have assurance. I think this should never to be forgotten. Many great man held no assurance in the gospel and were saved.
---frank on 4/13/07

B. But get something right at least, man must have Faith in Jesus Christ, beyond all question, if he is to be saved. I know no other way of access to the Father. I see no intimation of mercy excepting through Christ. A man must feel his sins and lost estate, and must come to Jesus for pardon and salvation, and rest his hope on Him alone. But if he only has faith to this, however weak that faith might be, he shall not miss heaven.

Underneath what appears to be righteous indignation and their steadfast commitment to their religious principles/endeavors is a powerful, defensive rage. If the fanatic program/process is halted or challenged - rage, arrogance, stubbornness will appear.
It's not healthy.

2)

2 Thes 3:6,15
Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us.
15Yet count him not as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.

Luke 17:3
Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him.

We are to be hard on our brothers who are in error. It is out of love.
---Matthew on 4/12/07

C. Since Miss Morgan is perfect she now has the right to judge others because she is special Christian, that walks by the Spirit everyday. Looking to make sure all Christians don't count on the hope in Christ, but in their own hope of been good children. And if they are not, we are not equal to her so don't belong to the same family. Lets hear your wonderful testamony and how many times God has saved you. I understand many here believe in many salvations. How many do you have?

3) The Bible calls this correcting admonishing.

Romans 15:14
14And I myself also am persuaded of you, my brethren, that ye also are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, able also to admonish one another.

Definition of admonish
1. to caution, advise, or counsel against something.
2. to reprove or scold, esp. in a mild and good-willed manner: The teacher admonished him about excessive noise.
3. to urge to a duty; remind

doug7835, I just post the Word, If you are offended by it, tell your maker [Christ], He's the One that says folks must KEEP His Word, thus won't see death(John 8:51). Jesus said it's the Word that judges(John 12:48), I don't have the time or place to judge folk, I don't know you, but your response might be telling?

doug7835, Are you a OSAS/eternal security proponent?
---Mrs._Morgan on 4/12/07

doug7835, You might want to know that I voted for you earlier today(before you falsely accused me of judging you). Yes, that 1 vote you have came from me,so how could I have been "judging you" as you accuse me of doing?? Don't add up Doug.

(2.) doug7835, Also wanted to add that I voted for you [earlier] today because of your comments against evolution & that nonsense doctrine that babies go to hell.
---Mrs._Morgan on 4/12/07

Some of you are confused, because if you are without sin an walk in the light all the time and it is possible to walk by the Spirit all the time, as I hear Matthew and Morgan do, how come you still believe you can lose your salvation? How is it possible for a person saved, that walks with the Lord every moment lose his salvation? What makes him lose it? I believe your believe are twisted in many ways. Maybe you are not talking about yourselves but only about others.

Doug there is a big difference between correcting and judging. We are told not to judge(speak evil) of our brother.
James 4:11
Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.
---Matthew on 4/12/07

B. Ok, If what I must do is to live a perfect life, walking by the Spirit as Miss Morgan and Matthew do, will that application make me sure to go to heaven? Thats OSAS. If I happen to sin, as they say, I will lose my salvation. But if I repent again, I am reborn again. Until the next time I sin again. Or if you mean that a person sins once and does not repent he loses his salvation forever, then no one is making it in, except for Matthew and Miss Morgan, and maybe a few others that walk without sin.
---frank on 4/12/07

No kidding mrs morgan its not up to you.To Judge me. Can you see my heart. No.Hebrews 10:30
For WE know HIM that hath said, VENGEANCE belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the LORD. And again, The LORD shall JUDGE HIS PEOPLE. Mrs Morgan you are not the Lord Jesus Christ.

doug7835, God doesn't say His redeemed must give account for past sins that were surrendered to Him, The LOST(sinners, lukewarm Christians/unrepentant backsliders),will receive their just punishment according to their works. The Great White Throne Judgment(Rev. 20:11-15)isn't for saints. The only Judgment saints stand before is the Judgment of Rewards, in which they will receive their just reward according to their works. Proves that deceit/rebellion don't pay.God Bless!

Romans 14:10
But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before THE JUDGMENT SEAT OF CHRIST.
2 Corinthians 5:10
For WE must ALL APPEAR before the JUDGMENT SEAT OF CHRIST; that every one may receive the things done in HIS BODY, according to that he hath done, whether it be GOOD OR BAD. LEAVE IT UP TO JESUS
---doug7835 on 4/12/07

Examine yourselves, God says, prove that you are [really] IN His faith. A faith that isn't tried/tested is questionable. Two kinds of faith, Dead & Alive. Faith that is from the Holy Spirit(Alive)bears good fruit. God says PROVE that which is GOOD. Many Christians REFUSE to try their "faith" with the WORD, which uncovers all, some are hiding things, have hidden agendas that are of the enemy, it won't work(James 1:26,27). Be not deceived God says, sadly many Christians are,in the dark. (James 2:26).

OSAS IS LOVE OF SELF??
Its the only test of faith...We are saved through faith, we live through faith. To believe our salvation is un- assured is no faith at all. There are many who think they can save thereselves. Non-OSAS ??
Warren...You sound like you dislike people who are assured of there salvation. Where is your love?

Self-righteousness would prevent you from loving your boss as yourself.
We should love and pray for bosses.
After all, they have enough faith in you to keep you around. They hired you, that's enough of a reason to have love in your heart for the boss.
OSAS doesn't require any forgiveness or love for the neighbor, though.
It is a false doctrine of love for self and only the self.

The bible is expilcit about the fact that we need to continuously work out our salvation (Phil2:12).

In Heb 3:12-15 it says " ..we have come to share with Christ if we hold firmly till the end the confidence we had at first.."

We need to persevere so that when we have done the will of God we will receive what He promised. (Heb10:35-39).

The day of salvation is today, now. Are we still in the faith?
---Ephre3798 on 4/10/07

Moderator, you gave a great answer. It still doesn't help those that want to save themselves, they are so much into works of righteousness that nothing anyone says will do them any good. They forget their position with Christ now that they are saved. We are commanded to not sin, but the sin of unbelief is the one that matters, for all come short of the glory of God. I am happy the moderators are answering again. It gives your point of view. Peace

Lacey, when I was a child I used to play with bugs. I see many children today do the same. I have never seen a Bug jump out of a closed hand. Once I closed my hand they jumped around inside but never got out.
If we were able to Jump out of Jesus' hand we would jump into the Fathers hand.

Lacey, read the articles here about false doctrines and take the bible quizes here on ChristiaNet. You will find many Scripture references. Once Saved Always Saved is a false doctrine. It is a doctrine of self-righteousness. Those who follow this false teaching have anger issues that they never need to repent of. The CN articles do not support this false teaching, and neither do I.

Lacey: A person can only get saved once. But a christian can backslide on God and go back into the world. In the bible there is a story about 100 sheep. one sheep went astray while the 99 stayed close to the Shepherd. The shepherd looked for that sheep that went astray. When he found it, he rejoiced in finding that lost sheep. That was a parable Christ taught us. Many people will go astray from God. But God won't let them wonder to far from him. Even though that sheep went astray, he still belongs to God.

Lacey, go into the Can You Lose Your Salvation Blog. I don't believe you can be "resaved", but I believe one can walk away from salvation through willfull unrepented sin. Sometimes people are on the right path where they are desiring righteousness and God's love and are repenting their sins, and then all of a sudden lies and deceit gets them to think they don't have to repent anymore because "they can't help but sin." It is a lie from the devil Himself. Don't fall for it.
---Matthew on 4/8/07

osas is a false doctrine invented by men to deceive many. Jesus said: "If ye love me, keep my commandments." He did not mean only on sunday but seven days a week, If we sin, we have to repent and ask forgiveness. that is the only way the atonement works in our lives.to say you only have to profess the name of Jesus Christ and you are saved denies the scriptures and Jesus Christ himself. We have to work out our salvation ourselves. It is not handed to us on a silver platter as many believe.

I am a Pentacostal who has recently been into the Baptist church. I am having an extremely hard time with "once saved always saved". John 10 says no one can snatch a Chistian out of God's hand, but that christian can choose to jump out, right? A close friend of mine says God refers to us as his children, no matter what someone might do to walk away from a relationship, they are still in the family. I am having a hard time refuting that one. It makes a lot of sense. I don't know what to believe.

I have YET to see anyone saying that Jesus is wrong when he said, "they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand"
There are no "conditionl requirements" in his statement like, "you must also ABIDE...".
It is an absolute, UNCONDITIONAL statement. It is from the AUTHOR of our salvation, and from the GUARANTOR of our salvation.
Can't be much clearer, people.

Very Good Betty and Exzucuh, we must continue and abide in the Lord, deny ourselves and take up our cross and follow Him. The apostle Paul made a career out of correcting CHRISTIANS that were slipping into false doctrines, worldly lusts, etc..
Keeping this in mind, Once you are saved, you will still make some mistakes. Discipleship is a life-long process. There is no biblical proof that a truly saved person can be lost again. Do you really think if God saves someone, that He only did a temporary job.
Thank heavens, no.
peace.

Those that follow Jesus keep his commandments, they take up their crosses, you cannot follow Jesus if you do not take up your cross he said you not worthy of him. It is true no man can pluck you out of his hand but you your self can deny him and lose your salvation by not taking up your cross.

2. People today don't believe in God's chosen. They say they choose, free will. But it is God who chooses. No one knows who they are, that is why we are called to witness. If you choose Christ, you are one. If you don't, you have nothing to worry about OSAS, because you are not one of the promise, so you can believe in what you want. He is our creator and man is fallen and cannot get out of the mess he is in until the Spirit brings them to life. And he will respond to the calling. God never fails.
---lupe on 7/2/06

The reason Emcee believes that born again is from other denominations is because they don't teach born of the Spirit. They teach salvation comes through baptism, their own works. God has to change the heart of stone, through the Holy Spirit. That is what is born of the Spirit means. I mentioned on a few things because much is not taught in the Catholic church. Isiac was born of the Spirit, meaning from God. Ismmauel was born of the flesh, not by God. Isiac from the promise, Ismmauel not from the promise.
---lupe on 7/2/06

5. "are you willing to give up worshipping saints, idols? Do you want to change? Change is repentance. If you are and want to give your whole life to Christ, then call upon Him to come into your life, as I said before, no one has to know but you and Christ. But be truthful. If not, you have made your choice. People say, the chosen is wrong, if you commit today, you are one of the chosen. If you don't then you were never one of them. So don't even worry what I think. It won't mean a thing anyway.

4. Scripture is clear who wholes the keys to our lives, this world, and death. If a person had a repented heart at conversion, he can be assured that Christ will complete His promise. Forever sealed. But you have to be born again of the Spirit Emcee, and your church does not teach that. I keep saying, time is running out my friend, instead of been stubburn, find a place at home to ask Christ with all your heart to come into your life as your one and only God.
---lupe on 7/2/06

3. When someone doesn't believe that God really saves him through His grace alone, then he thinks he is saved because he had something to do with his salvation. He believes inside that he holds the key to his own life. He is still thinking worldly because he is counting on himself to make it, and not depending on Christ to complete His work in us. People have that right. They can depend on the works of Christ in our lives or then can depend on themselves in their journey.
---lupe on 7/2/06

2. I say it with love. You want to love Christ but you want to also love Mary and Paul and Peter and Guadalupe, and San Juan and so on. When a person is born again, his whole life revolves around Christ. He begans to love others because Christ is pouring His love in you and you exhibit that through your actions but they will always be because of Christ. The love for your church is more then for God's Word many times in your answers because you trust your church more then you trust God's Word.
---lupe on 7/2/06

Emcee, a person that is born again, is born of the Spirit. He is not of the flesh. God wants us to love Him with All our heart, with All our soul and with All our mind. The question is do you? It seems to me that your loyalty is divided among many as to your worship. You want to be able to do what you want and call yourself a Born again Christian.

Lupe:: People already walking with the Lord, how do they experience being "born again." Jesus took 12 Fisher men & said I will make you fishers of Men were they born again, Bible dosent say so.I really think that this applies to people of other denominations who have not been Baptised & OR who are lax & by choice have NOT followed in the footsteps of Jesus. The RCC already teaches that way in TOTO.(THOUGHT) People already devoted to christ & pulled away by their own will is Questionable.

Emcee and Ruben, you first need to know what it is to be born again. Otherwise you will understand nothing about once saved always saved. How can you understand something you know nothing about or believe? It is simple as that. Your relationship with Christ has to be a commitment to Him and not Mary or Paul or Peter. Christ is our Lord and only Mediator. In your case someone else is. So how could you understand?

Lupe:#1:My answer to you was to PROTEST against the theory OSAS.Innuendoes do not clear the understanding but confuse & is one of the ploys used by Satan to mask & make a mess of Things. Be aware that the OSAS theory will cause God to lose souls Not win them to him.

The scripture I think you are looking for is Ephesians 4:30, which states we are sealed by the Holy Spirit until the day we are redemned. We did nothing to obtain God's gift, and we can do nothing to lose God's gift, and God does not take it back. The flesh is sinful, we must try and live right.
