There are prophets today like Cindy Jacobs but there are also people who just operate in the prophetic. They are not called to the office of prophet they just function highly in the gift. I prophecy all the time but I'm not a prophet nor do I want to be. All the prophets I know have had to go through the fire time and time again.
---MichelleS. on 4/20/08

Another thing- prophets are not accepted always by people because they are usually pretty radical for Christ- totally on fire because they spend so much time with him listening to him.
One thing I believe- to be a prophet you must first be an intercessor. How can you speak what God has to say if you don't have an intimate relationship with him and talk to him. If you want to be a prophet you must spend a great amount of time talking to the Father.
---MichelleS. on 4/20/08

Today many people are claiming to be prophets. Most preach an easy gospel that has no Cross for us to bear.

Most speak of giving money so we can get rich by making the so called prophets rich. Read the Bible especially Matthew 24

666 is the number of a man.
Unless I am severely mistaken, Ellen Gould White was NOT a man...
---StrongAxe on 4/16/08

One church I went to a few times has a prophet of their own. Cindy Jacobs comes to mind ... don't know if she is a true prophet or not? None of those I have seen on television are the real thing.
---Helen_5378 on 4/15/08

**The spirit of "Prophecy" is the testimony of Jesus..Revelations.**
According to the SDA, the "spirit of prophecy" means not the Holy Spirit, but the ravings of Ellen Gould White. (Add up the letters in her name that correspond to Roman numerals, and you get 666.)

God still speaks today through prophets: I prophesy, speak in tongues, and interpret tongues. "And God has set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets...prophesying edifies the church...I desire all you to speak in tongues, but more that prophesy: for greater the prophesying than the speaking in tongues, unless interpreting, that the church receives edifying. As brothers, crave the prophesying, and not forbid the speaking in tongues." I Corinthians 12:28; 14:4,5,39.

Kathr4453 - What you say is not true. The office of Prophet does exist today. Ephesians 4:11 lists the five-fold ministry callings.
---Helen_5378 on 9/13/06

Sorry, re: last post: Correction, The spirit of "Prophecy" is the testimony of Jesus..Revelations.
---kathr4453 on 9/13/06

2 Peter 1:19We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:

20Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.

21For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
---kathr4453 on 9/13/06

There are NO modern day Prophets. Only wanna be's.All Prophecy is established in scripture. The Spirit of Prophesy,"is the testimony of Jesus". Those who have the Gift re-iterate what has already been established.
God has placed with-in each Church the gifts for the Body of Christ to grow into MATURITY. Eph ch 4.
It's important to keep those "ites" not within your assembly "out". Many call them termites...
That's what 3rd John is all about. Don't let them in...
---kathr4453 on 9/13/06

I prophesy. "For to one is given by the Spirit prophecy." I Corinthians 12:8,10,28-30; 14:2,4,5,13-17,39.

I could not find your claim about Hagee and the rapture...
In, God's Two-Minute Warning, Pastor Hagee confidently states, I believe that we have arrived at the two-minute warning on Gods clock. Unlike the players in a professional football game, we do not know how much time we have left. What we do with the time remaining will make all the difference in the world...and in eternity. It is vital we live every day for Him.
---ralphy on 9/12/06

March 20, 2003 John Hagee told Benny Hinn on the air that the rapture would occur within the next six months. Hinn questioned him about it being that close, and Hagee replied, "It's that close." ( From Prohpet Watch)
Sounds like a real winner to me.

6 months has come and you still believe Hagee is a prophet?
---Liz on 9/12/06

The indicator of any true five fold ministry gift is this: does what they say build you up or tear you down? One can tear down, through the Holy Spirit, a tradition or doctrine without harming the person who holds to that doctrine. Outside of the Spirit of Christ, you not only harm the person, you cause them to cling much harder to what they believe.
---Linda on 9/5/06

I will say one thing about those five fold ministry gifts...if you really are one of those, you won't have to toot your own horn. As for being like an old testament prophet, Father God says that He speaks to us now through His Son, who is the heir of all things. We have better than Old Testament type prophets. We have the one who was the author of and the fulfillment of everything they spoke that pointed to Himself.

greetings, the prophets, john the baptist and jesus all had one common goal, to do the Fathers will by revelation of God to man. religious authorities could not reason out the strange doctrine so they killed the trouble makers to say the least. the religious leaders of that day remained elementary teachers of religion that did not grow by revelation.jesus was told he had a devil.will man believe without a sign?who will believe a prophet with a strange doctrine? is this why christians can not find them?
---earl on 9/5/06

Thomas ... there must be a tremendous story there.
But it is something we cannot hope to understand (or your comments) unless you tell us the whole story.
---alan8869_of_UK on 9/5/06

I have read some interesting remarks here. I am a prophet like those found in the old testiment. And I can show you the dead Judge the that Lord GOD almighty had me to pass judgement upon. Or at least his grave, Also this was done in the court room and is recorded in length in the court record. So never think you have learned anything until the Lord actually speak to you about it. Wisdom can be simple sometimes. Shalom PS and i am a Christian.
---Thomas on 9/5/06

Ronald, God does give folks prophetic gifts, but NOT as in the OT. As believers we have the Holy Spirit dwelling within and we have the OT and NT. The OT saints did not, and therefore needed the "Prophet" to tell them God's will. The NT prophet does not carry the same authority, and should always be in submission to a local pastor. If not, he/she is a renagade and is not to be trusted.

The five fold ministry in the book of Eph, clearly states that prophets are nessisay for the bringing the body of Christ up. They were not just for old Testiment because they were in the book of Acts guiding the church under the unction of the Holy Spirit. Many times it said it seems good to us and the Holy Spirit, God on earth TODAY is the Holy Spirit. Reply! And mat The Lord Jesus Christ Have Mercy on your Soul for mis-leading the babies.

Amy, be very careful. There is a difference in prophsey and discerning of the spirit. Prophsey is of things to COME (future tense). You stated the lady told you of things God is doing for you (present tense). Psyhics, witches and worlocks also have the ability to discern, but it's only present or past tense. So be careful and test the spirits! Only God is omnipresent (I think that's the right word).
---Fred_S. on 6/13/06

Rev. Herb & Fred S, Good comments. I agree that the "office of Prophet" is no longer necessary - because of Jesus finished work on the cross and the Holy Spirit who now not only can dwell upon, but does dwell within ever believer. I do know some folks, however, who are prophetic... ie. get a sense or picture from the Lord - but understand that they themselves are fallible - and that "we only know in part." Can be a wonderful ministry to the body of Christ if not abused.
---daphn8897 on 6/12/06

I think the prophets are all over the church. I think the name prophet scares many people and so they are not visible. I think that gift falls on different people and can be a one time thing. If people followed the prompting of the Holy Spirit, like get on the internet and go to the prayer room.... Things happen. A lady once met me there and she knew things I had not shared with anyone. She spoke with me about things God is doing that are very personal. Solid things. Personal. Very Real

Concerning what Rev. Herb wrote about John Hagee and Benny Hinn, will this cost these men their salvation? The answer is NO absolutely NO!!!! Does the statement made by Mr. Hagee make Mr. Hagee a false prophet? The answer is absolutely Yes!!!
---mima on 6/12/06

I agree with Rev. Herb. Todays prophets seem to only prophecy what has already been established in God's Word. Thus the purpose of the following scripture:
Rev. 22:18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:

i think John Hagee Ministry is an example of a modern day Prophet of God.
---cindy on 6/11/06

The prophets today are the preachers and pastors that tell forth the word of God from His Word. Many are false today and the bible warns of these. We do not have prophets today as of old. Prophets told the people of God's will, we have the bible for that today.
---Rev_Herb on 6/11/06

Definitely, I believe we have people who are enlightened beings, or prophets in our world today.
---Grace on 6/11/06

Acts 21:10 And as we tarried there many days, there came down from Judaea a certain prophet, named Agabus.
If there were prophets in the early church then there are prophets now
1 Corinthians 14:37 If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord.

There are no prophets of today, for God already gave us what we need to know, but I do believe he stil lsent people to expand what he already left, the knowledge.
